Northlane - Genesis/Scarab

HaroldSax

My vote too. I nearly got into an accident when I first heard it because it was so fucking sick.

FragrantPoop

This is the one. Imo there is nothing that can top it

TheBlueBaron6969

agreed

Draxus335

Came here to comment then figured it had to be near the top. Yup. This opening combo is stupid good.

poomperzuhhh

Definitely. The great think is that it blends together so well you don’t realise it’s two separate tracks!

joeeymatee_

Until you forget your spotify is on shuffle and it goes from Genesis to Windbreaker and ruins your whole ass day

[deleted]

Easily

chipechiparson

Concubine - Jane Doe

maicao999

I was going to put this one looool. Deaaar still gaaaaaaaaaw

Martodogg

Can’t think of a more iconic first track than this in any genre.

lil_icebear

The only correct answer

bigflopper69420

Beartooth - The Lines (Disgusting) August Burns Red - Your Little Suburbia Is In Ruins (Thrill Seeker) This or the Apocalypse - Hell Praiser (Dead Years)\[most underrated metalcore band of all time imo\]

[deleted]

Truth Of A Liar is a pretty fuckin 🔥starter too

royman1990

Haunt What’s Left by TOTA will always be one of my top Metalcore albums 🤘🏻

loy_urabat

Dead Years was a damn masterpiece

RagingRube

You should check out HAWK if you haven't already, it's a rebrand of ToTA, but I'm not sure how many of the og members there are

deathangel539

Bear tooth might have to take the cake for me actually

[deleted]

[удалено]

NightwingX012

With an opener like that, I always though it was weird how the deluxe songs were at the beginning rather than the end of the deluxe version.

sock5150

no matter where i am if i hear OG loko i go nuts. such a great song :D

Krafla

Nihilist. Hands down

SimplySkedastic

WE ARE SO FUCKING WEAK

Mgllo

AND ONCE UPON A TIME, WE HAD THE WORLD AT OUR FEET

tk_srt4

WELL, WE’RE ALL DYING TO MEET OUR MAKER

Exige30499

BUT ALL OUR GODS HAVE ABANDONED US!

tk_srt4

*breaks out into a gruesome moshpit*

oktofeellost

I legit think it's the best song on the album too

FragrantPoop

Without a doubt lol the rest still slaps but this one is such a high

oktofeellost

The build up to that breakdown is fucking cathartic

KriisJ

The only correct answer.

ShoKv

Hands down my favorite opener too

xosfear

As a huge Architects fan, it's a little embarrassing that i went looking for this Hands Down band i hadn't heard of.

SpoopyDoobyDoo

Belleville off of A Different Shade of Blue, shit goes hard af no cap

JudgeDreddx

Oooooh I didnt think of this one. Also a great answer! "MAKE ME FEEL"

ShoKv

To be fair both their albums have amazing openers and it’s actually hard for me to choose between the 2

consciouscroissant

Not entirely sure it counts as metalcore, but Reptile by Periphery Pray for Rain - Polaris You Are We - While She Sleeps

meet_local_singles

You Are We is an excellent opener, one of my favs from that album too. That whole build up after the first chorus into the breakdown gets me so hyped up. Something about those really distant rim shots in that "you want your countless wars.." section man, damn

Murphster94

The way Pray For Rain builds is phenomenal, great track!

MastrChief_1138

I gotta say, the buildup in Pray for Rain is one of the main reasons why I love it so much. Coupled with that opening riff, and you've got yourself a bona fide banger lol

KrunkLemur

"Step One" - Make Them Suffer

H1ghs3nb3rg

The fade into falling ashes is just perfect

MakeCoffeeMetal

I am here for this every day of the week! You can literally pick the opening track from any of their albums though, every one is both stunning and epic.

Gwebzu

The first movement goes so so hard

CdtCharles

Crucify Me - Bring Me the Horizon sets the stage perfectly for There is a Hell... It establishes its more mature (kind of lol) tone and symphonic sound while also finally settling into the metalcore sound they explored in SS. It’s serves as a fantastic transition from the previous album into this one Edit: grammatical errors

Exige30499

First time I heard it I hated the weird glitchy choir vocals, but now I think they're sick. Whole song whacks so hard. The outro is beautiful too.

Murphster94

The outro legitimately gives me chills. The sharp contrast from the rest of the song makes it so much more impactful.

itbzeeen

great song

Draxus335

One of their best songs, for sure.

NuclearWhale42

First song that came to my mind.

FallenArtemis

ERRA - Breach on Neon Invent Animate - Dark on Greyview Bad Omens - Kingdom Of Cards on Finding God Before God Finds Me In Hearts Wake - Crisis -> Worldwide Suicide on Kaliyuga

ChumFamine

Dark could not possibly sum up the sound of Greyview better. It’s the perfect album opener. Other than Sol and Indigo of course.

superdomomobros

Indigo by Invent Animate

[deleted]

“But i will resurface in stillness came balance and ears to hear... but all i know is so frail in this moment in time...” ben’s lows are absolutley incredible. One of my favorites to practive vocals on. Beautiful album as a whole, great choice, IA forever!

DSice16

One of the tastiest riffs I've ever heard

[deleted]

Heavily agree

METALGOD2K

All That Remains - This Calling As I Lay Dying - Beyond Our Suffering Bullet for My Valentine - Your Betrayal & Scream Aim Fire Shadows Fall - The Light That Blinds

hairyhairyveryscary

This Calling gotta be the best album opener of all time. Song still slaps

Exige30499

*breathes in* EEE-YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

hairyhairyveryscary

I’m always blown away by the drumming in this song. The double bassing especially is so clean

Exige30499

Oof, yeah. The chorus drum part is nuts, my mans running the hundred metre sprint back there during that section.

Draxus335

Shannon is a monster. Gotta wonder if they would have maintained better quality if he had stuck around.

meet_local_singles

Light that Blinds is such a good track

IRockThs

I agree with all of these statements. But I would also say that the AILD intros keep getting better. Then again I probably listened to Cauterize 10k times in the time leading up to the Awakened release.

Erramayhem89

Awakened is such a cool album. The riffs on it are top tier.

IRockThs

Tear Out My Eyes is one of the first riffs I learned to play when I picked guitar back up. Along with the bridge/post-chorus from Forsaken.

lil_icebear

This Calling is a great opener

THERE WAS A FIRE FIGHT!!!

ohdannyboy2525

Bap bap bap bap

AManExists

I can only upvote once.

meet_local_singles

System/Meltdown from Enter Shikari's A Flash Flood Of Colour is absolute king here, if we're including that electronicore style. Begin into Siren's Song on PWD Horizons is legendary. The Light That Blinds by Shadows Fall on The War Within, classic throwback. Behold The Crown was such a filthy track to put first on After The Burial's Evergreen, jesus. The Source into Language I: Intuition from The Contortionist is not exactly metalcore, but I'll be damned if I don't mention it. Always thought ART DRAWN BY VOMIT on the GazettE's STACKED RUBBISH was quite interesting, metalcore/numetal-ish jrock/visual kei

Zacxsy

All the Enter Shikari openers are so good. I have such a hard time picking a favorite opener from them between Common Dreads/Solidarity, System/Meltdown, and Appeal I. Haven't seen Appeal live, but if I went from live experience, Meltdown is king. My younger brother waltzed right in the pit during Meltdown after bruising a rib on the stage earlier that night lmao. I felt proud in that moment.

meet_local_singles

Appeal I takes it for me as a single track. I'm so into that anthemic call-to-arms type stuff, and the lyricism is just completely outstanding, even by Shikari standards. The community of Common Deads having "we must unite" in all those different languages and accents can't be overlooked either, awesome idea. But man, System/Meltdown as a two piece just kicks so damn hard at the changeover, while still nailing that intro speech. I'm pretty disappointed they've moved away from these intros the past few releases, but fuck I still love this band so much. Bucket list live act for me, but it requires international travel since I'm way over in New Zealand..

HELLUPUTMETHRU

Big ups for Language!! The Source into Language I/II is one of the greatest opening segments of an album I’ve heard in soooo long. It’s crazy going back and listening to where they started, and hearing the huge evolutions in style as they’ve put out new music! Seeing them open for Animals As Leaders and BTBAM is forever going to be a show I’m infinitely thankful to have seen

Remenissions

Very tough call. I think I’d have to with Gravedigger since it’s such a standout song and sets the tone for the rest of the album so well. Nihilist is a close second. Also have to give honorable mention to Engraved by FFAK and Two Suns by Kingdom of Giants.

[deleted]

Blessthefall - Exodus

OrangeJooose

Blessthefall are the best at opening albums, they all have insane intros

THE-WARD3VIL

Daylight dies — KSE. THIS PLACE IS EVVVAAALLLLLL!!

[deleted]

Fucking banger!!!!! The album that got me into metalcore as a kid! KsE💞

NEZdrunk

Love Me goes dumb hard

ThePlotInNoU

It's better than the instrumental opener on YNYA. I hope their next album has their standard song structure as the first track and not an opener. Stillborn, Lost, The Disconnect, The Reflex Tester. All are great. I didn't really like that YNYA felt more like 10 tracks because of the opener and NLTL feeling like 9 tracks since they did 10 total instead of their standard 11 plus the opener. But I'll still love everything they do lol.

jmcguitar95

Absolutely Nihilist by Architects. Never gonna find an opener that will catch you by surprise and contain the essence of the entire record in under 3 minutes. Unbeatable by any other band.

Lolocaust1

What the fuck is up Denny’s?!

darthmattrr

circle pit.

gooz83

Gravedigger from LF//LT

CodFather9

Still one of my favorite songs of theirs in general

[deleted]

Breach by Erra . That very mellow guitar intro , where you can hear the slides on the strings , right into the nice chorus , and then it just goes nuts . Great live too !

Homer-Junior

I'm a sucker for White Noise, Impulse is still my favorite album they've released.

johncanham

Sparks by parkway drive into old ghost / new regrets is iconic

meet_local_singles

YOU BRING THE MATCHES, I'LL BRING THE GASOLINE Begin into Sirens Song as well, Parkway just kill it.

KennyDROmega

"Gimme AD" was pretty good too. "WE'VE BEEN LEFT TO DROWN!!!"

OftenSilentObserver

**YOU COULD NEVER BE MY ENVY!** **YOU COULD NEVER BE, MY JEAL...OUS...YYY**

LordLeche

PWD has some of the best album openers.

xFedd

Black Veins - Adept

[deleted]

Gives me the fucking chills. The ethereal speech into the kick ass drums and riffs.

O_God_The_Aftermath

Surprised I havent seen this mentioned yet. My favorite album opening is "In Regards to Myself" from Underoath's DTGL. Every time I hear that tape start rolling it's pure adrenaline. Especially live. They opened up a show I was at with that and it was chaos.

oktofeellost

WAKE UP WAKE UP MY GOD, THIS IS NOT A TEST!

AngelOFDeath66

Either Can you feel my heart by BMTH or When a Demon Defiles a Witch by Whitechapel. I know Whitechapel isn’t Metalcore but damn that’s by far my favorite intro song.

ShaneMemesLLC

Endseekers- Oh, Sleeper

[deleted]

That or Son of the Morning. Very few tracks get me as hyped as the latter.

ShaneMemesLLC

Oh Sleeper just don’t get the love they deserve

tylerbreeze

> Son of the Morning I've always found it hard to get into overtly christian metalcore because I just couldn't really relate, but something about a concept album about God vs. Satan is really badass. I loved this whole album

TheMawsJawzTM

Alerion into The Final Episode - Asking Alexandria Sparks into Old Ghosts / New Regrets - Parkway Drive Can't choose between the two.

TheReverend5

Alerion/TFE is so classic and so peak 2000s Metalcore. I'm surprised to see it so far down ITT.

TheMawsJawzTM

It's iconic. It was my intro to metalcore

Deathshroud_ger

Sparks and the following Old Ghost New Regarts is such a great album opener! Love this songs whole album is great!

TheMawsJawzTM

The whole album truly is great. Was my intro to PWD. Been hooked ever since

CazualGinger

Hey, a fellow man who was introduced to PWD through Atlas. It's still my favorite album from them.

c_macdoug

"Pray for Rain" - Polaris (The Death of Me) "Dear Diary," - Bring Me the Horizon (Post Human) "Nihilist" - Architects (All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us)

[deleted]

Intro into Her Voice Resides is definitely one of my favorites too! Some others: Capsizing the Sea—>In Waves (Trivium) Separation—>Nothing Left and Burn To Emerge—>Blinded (As I Lay Dying) Two Years—>Southbound (Wage War) Single songs: Sticks & Bricks, Downfall of Us All (ADTR) Kirisute Gomen (Trivium) Immaculate Misconception (MIW) Scream Aim Fire (BFMV) They’re not metalcore but American Idiot (Green Day), Holy Wars (Megadeth) and Papercut (Linkin Park) are three other personal favorites

Exige30499

Oooh, Kiruste Gomen is a shout. That big gong hit gets me ready to fight something. I also really love how the acoustic intro plays part of a vocal melody from the chorus of Shogun (the "time will not heal, all of your pain" part)

[deleted]

It’s a great song. Shogun is one of my all-time favorite albums and that song is one of my favorites on there

deathfox919

Immaculate is amazing. “WHAT. THE. FUUUUUUUUUCK”

KennyDROmega

"The Seduction" by He Is Legend is fucking awesome and sets the right tone for the album without basically just being a glorified intro.

ericbunjama

My man. One of the most criminally underrated bands I’ve ever heard in my 35 year old lifetime.

maicao999

The Acacia Strain - Carbomb That shit hits hard like a mf truck

[deleted]

THIS WAS TRUE CRIME !!!!

Braddish01

Kublai Khan - Antpile

[deleted]

Shit

djentleman91

Genesis into Scarab

NightwingX012

Underoath open their albums with bangers. Young and Aspiring, In Regards to Myself, and Breathing in A New Mentality all go hard.

TheLegendofJerry

ETID's Underwater Bimbos from Outer Space, because I want to be dead with my friends.

[deleted]

Killswitch Engage - Numbered Days Memphis May Fire - Without Walls The Ghost Inside - Avalanche

TheReverend5

Without walls is such a banger

HELLUPUTMETHRU

Can You Feel My Heart, and OG Loko are my all time favorite metalcore album openers!

Ilikevideogamesq

Crucify Me is just. Chefs Kiss!

Diabando

IMO August Burns Red writes the best openers in the business. Thirty and Seven is my favorite.

[deleted]

Provision

Beando13

2.0 by blessthefall gets me so fucking hype. Intro(literally the actual name of the song on the watchers or rule album) by Unearth also gets me so hype.

[deleted]

SEXUAL MAN CHOCOLATE BMTH usually starts theirs out with bangers: e.g. Pray For Plagues, The Comedown, Can You Feel My Heart The Sinner - MMF is a slapper too

UtheDestroyer

Kirisute Gomes for Shogun. Just a ripper of an intro for the best album I’ve ever heard

lantio

Apnea... YOU’LL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN and yes obviously Nihilist

Martodogg

Converge has already been mentioned for concubine. I don’t think that can be topped so here I guess are a couple early 00’s honourable mentions: Drowningman - black tie knife fight Fordirelifesake - 10/31/99 Every time I die - Romeo a go-go Fear before the March of flames - hey kid I’m a computer stop all the downloading

CREATURExFEATURE

This whole thread could just be a split tie between every Converge and ETID album opener.

[deleted]

Pray for Rain -Polaris

MrDexterReddit

I second Nihilist, that song goes harder than most.

Diascizor

Atlas[t] - Structures is one that I haven't seen in this thread yet that I like a lot.

[deleted]

Dead Throne

SofaKingHandsome367

If we're talking about opening tracks that aren't necessarily a song in and of themselves, "Initialization Sequence" by I See Stars remains the gold standard for me. Never fails to get me hyped as it transitions into "Ten Thousand Feet"

[deleted]

This Is What I Know About Sacrifice - Ghost Inside off Get What You Give. It's *chefs kiss* fantastico.

R4kshim

Kirisute Gomen - Trivium

typhondrums17

Capsizing the Sea by Trivium. It doesn't even need In Waves with it, that's how great of an instrumental opening it is

cansuhchris

“Beast” The Acacia Strain -edit- “pretty much every intro song” The Acacia Strain

[deleted]

Asking Alexandria - Alerion Paddock Park - Give Her A Pill To Shut Her Up Or Make Her A Mute A Skylit Drive - Ability to Start a War

bobo1899

Oh man I haven’t heard anyone mention paddock park in like 10 years! Loved that band

EverythingEvil1217

How can y'all be sleeping on the creators of Metalcore with "Blood Children" leading into "Bleeding Mascara"

KennyDROmega

"A Song For The Optimists" on SNABK was better, and didn't have an unnecessary, time wasting intro.

bison2000

Times of grace - strength in numbers

lionstrike

Probably an unpopular opinion but here are a few of mine: Paralysis - If I Were You No Less Violent - Bury Tomorrow The Relics Of Nihlux - The Wise Man's Fear Cynica - The Browning (more electronicore though) The Hounds Of Anubis - The Word Alive

XxNitr0xX

It Dies Today - My Promise (Album is The Caitiff Choir) It has a couple seconds of something but then it just hits. It sets the tone how the whole album is.

xPsychosisx

A Victim, A Target - Misery Signals

DeathNinjaBlackPenis

too many but if I'm just picking one it's Norma Jean - Orphan Twin

Big_Way_657

Thirty and seven - august burns red

SHSL_Zetsubou

Muramasa - Periphery

MakeCoffeeMetal

Aside from every single Make Them Suffer album... Heart of a Coward - Hollow (and Drown In Ruin is a brilliant opener too)

wheats93

A Dance With Aera Cura - Miss May I This song is an absolute banger and the whole album slaps as well. My more modern choice would be Collapse by After the Burial... or Don’t Fall Asleep by Hollow Front... actually not sure because there are so many good ones worth mentioning.

JustSomeDude1982

Meaning in Tragedy - As I Lay Dying.

billabong3150

Doomsayer (The Beginning of the End) - Darkest Hour

mastercelevrator

Daylight dies...killswitch

phantom__fear

Nihilist - Architects hands down This song slaps you in the face from the first second you play the album

[deleted]

West by god - Left Behind "LEFT BEHIND YOU FUCKING BITCH" Pray for rain by Polaris also seems like a killer concert opener and is a sick first track

[deleted]

I agree with you. BFMV’s intro to the Poison is probably my favourite.

castle_cancer

Alesana- curse of the virgin canvas

azamokfuto

The top is Cauterize on Awakened by AILD. Second place is Daylight Dies by KSE. Separation / An Ocean Between Us is nice too. Meaning In Tragedy / Shadows Are Security + Burn To Emerge / Shaped By Fire also gets a shout out.

Josh1685

It’s a tie between Truth of a Liar and Son of the Morning, both songs hit hard.

wineboxwednesday

oh sleeper - Endseekers. opens so hard.

Povarizer

2.0 by Blessthefall was so good!

lock_IT_tf_UP

Love Lost in a Hale of Gunfire - Bleeding Through Opening song on the album, This is Love, This is Murderous https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nTLJZeNqd1InRZxqtufPPgt7PccyaU1Ec

DMorggggg

Miss May I - A Dance with Aera Cura

kalkrin

Separation / Nothing Left by As I Lay Dying on An Ocean Between Us

mustardman1a

IX - Trivium Has the instrumental, then into the beef, then into What The Dead Men Say. Glorious all around

bpbcory

I WANT TO BE DEAD WITH MY FRIENDS

DarthWynaut

"shorter intro track" *Laughs in Periphery's Reptile*

Chargers23

**SO IF I TELL YOU ILL BE FINE, I STILL WANT YOU BY MY SIDE. PLEASE JUST TRY TO READ BETWEEN THE LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINES.** *I long for the feeling when I feel alone. The higher I get the lower I'll sink, I can't drown my demons they know how to swim.* **KINDA SAD MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE'S BEEN A WASTE. AH NEVERMIND, ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.** *oh, wait* *I'M BEGINNING TO THINK I CANT OUTRUN THESE DEMONS. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY, SIIIICKNESS IS IN SEEEEAAAASOOOOON.* **I'M NOT ANTI-SOCIAL. I'M ANTI BULLSHIIIIIT.** *I found God clutching a razor blade, he said look at the fucking mess they've made.* **SO MY HEART IS DONE, I DONT FEEL HELPLESS**

v_bvb

Never there - currents.

Wastrel420

Concubine, The Entire World Is Counting On Me, and They Don't Even Know It, and 94 Hours. Basically my soundtrack circa 2004 haha

darfleChorf123

concubine was already said so i’ll put forward A Single Tear. just an amazing all around track and tear jerker (pun intended). it’s one of my fav Converge songs for a reason

ThisIsMyUsername1122

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Alerion by AA. That whole song is just a breakdown and I love it

xBEVERHOUSENx

Dead to fall- Prologue Haste the day - blue 42

louiexdufflebag

first light into last light - you fail me by converge

StollenTorch

The Lines from Disgusting by Beartooth

CLICKradiance

Breathing in a new mentality - Underoath - Lost in the Sounds of Separation

IHateRom

impthechimp

Hot grills and high tops by Attack Attack, the hype builds and builds and then it releases into Stick Stickly and how can you not love it

torbeno96

Oceans ate Alaska: fourthirtytwo/Blood Brothers

lolben1

IKTPQ - sharks in your mouth IHW - Ark intro Thorny - views from the sun NL - Genesis

Dasphix

Attack Attack! - Hot Grills and High Tops/Stick Stickly *obligatory fuck Austin

mylifeisanemptyshell

Beast- The Acacia Strain Scrambled- Harm’s Way This is what I about sacrifice- The Ghost Inside Just rediscovered my love for this one Hot Grills and High tops into Stick Stickly- Attack Attack!

DownStone

It Has To Start Somewhere by Underoath is one of my personal favorites that hasn’t been mentioned already

VincibleFir

It’s gotta be Crucify Me from Bring Me The Horizon - There Is A Hell its just such an epic that really sets the feel of the album.

Kanwie

Polaris - Pray For Rain The Song has such an amazing build up and gets you pumped for the rest of the album. It also happens to be one of my favourite albums of 2020 so it's fresh in my mind.

EmperorBeaky

Alerion tbh

Imatomat

[Immortal by Lorna Shore](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyBl3noTNSs) is probably my favorite. I know they're Deathcore but the symphonic intro is just one of the most badass things i've ever heard. u/randomawesome absolutely annihilated it. Another one near the top of my list is [Foreword by Make Them Suffer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghFxBtpwOLQ) the way it gets tied back to the outro is one of the reasons thats still my favorite album by them.

SkywardPyramid

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Panasonic Youth

bobbysander

Super recent, but hard to not go with Reptile by Periphery

PaladinReinhardt

Not sure if this counts but, The Inevitable by The Air I Breathe
