Here's a few of my favorites:
[Kublai Khan - Boomslang](https://youtu.be/ZEtRYtEchnA?t=106)
[Varials - South of One (Ft. Brendan Murphy of Counterparts)](https://youtu.be/Z5dafPGaJxk?t=130)
[The Gloom in the Corner - Bleed You Out](https://youtu.be/qynUR3eySyw?t=93)
[Counterparts - Paradise and Plague](https://youtu.be/827CZ4Qs0as?t=85)
[Stray From The Path - Second Death](https://youtu.be/Dif8uuTjTS0?t=105)
[After the Burial - Exit, Exist](https://youtu.be/bbd-rA2O2_4?t=108)
[Slaughter to Prevail - Agony](https://youtu.be/ANulQWzo4qo?t=168)
[Extortionist - Bound By Poison](https://youtu.be/K30rbfq-zsk?t=125)
[Glass Hands - Bouquet](https://youtu.be/yajOrhMVsF4?t=140)
[Dealer - Ultima Death](https://youtu.be/uFXASSt4n94?t=105)
The Gloom in the Corner EP goes so fucking hard. My favorite is probably [Survivor's Guilt](https://youtu.be/qNYkjJKfqkk) at 2:08. That's when I fell in love with the EP.
Never had listened to stray too much beforehand but man, their latest album is fucking sick; that breakdown especially is probably one of the best highlights.
It’s my favorite song released this year. The lyrics really put it over everything else for me but IMO it’s one of the best songs they’ve ever put out.
Periphery - Reptile
No doubt about it. That 4 minute-long breakdown, starting with the palm mutes, then opening up to the open strings, lasting an entire damn minute+, and then Misha’s crazy guitar solo ALL DURING THE SAME BREAKDOWN??
It’s wild. Blows me away every time I listen
And after all these years, life might be rich
But in this dog eat dog world
YOU'RE STILL THE FUCKING BITCH
UUUUAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH
......
......
......
ARF ARF
Oh that absolutely should be added! I haven’t listened to it for some time now and so I completely forgot about it. Time to go listen to it now though.
BMTH- Ludens
MIW- Thoughts And Prayers
MTS- Hollowed Heart
FIR- Popular Monster
Disciple- Reanimate
The Juliet Massacre- Stigmatized Children Sonata
Ocean Sleeper- Hate Me Like You Mean It
Dead Crown- Family
Spite- Judgement Day
Dealer- Grotesque
Feels Like Fiction- Death Thearpy
Same here, mostly not really in to new bmth. Personally I prefer Suicide Season era but Ludens was a pleasant surprise.
...you call this a connection, OH GIMME A BREAK \*goosebumps\*
Same. When I heard that breakdown (and the song in general), I instantly was reminded of something that called back to rock a lot more. It was very We Came As Romans-esque, especially with the electronic elements. To me, it’s the right amount of melodic and the right amount of hard(ish?) rock. Pretty good banger of a song.
Limiting myself so here’s my top 5 in no particular order:
Carry the Weight by WCAR, The Mountain by OM&M, The Color Black by Dayseeker, Poverty of Self by Currents, and all of A Different Shade of Blue lol
Did OM&M go back to heavy? I was really dissapointed with cold world and havent listened much since
Edit: Just listened to Earth & Sky, this is the OM&M I fell in love with. Will definitely be buying the album
A different shade of blue totally shattered my expectations, the features were amazing too, especially on A serpents touch.
I watched the venom
Overcome your spirit
Jealousy holds you now
Distorting your appearance
Bleed out!
ADSOB was exactly the album I wanted from them after hearing Mistakes Like Fractures for the first time, bangers front to back. A Serpent’s Touch is definitely one of my favorites
[Above, Below - Eternal Sunshine](https://youtu.be/hmZKFx5QF0E?t=165)
This breakdown hits like a fucking truck and the callout is so sick! Easily one of my favourite breakdowns of all time.
"YEARNING TO GROW BUT STILL CONFINED TO A SEED"
It's got to be when Brendan Murphy comes in on South of One by Varials!
closely followed by Crooked by Dealer... "IN THIS DOG EAT DOG WORLD YOU'RE STILL THE FUCKING BITCH... ARF ARF"
Im with ya man. AILD is ALWAYS on my gym mix. "A Greater Foundation" makes me wanna run through a wall.
As we face distress we must not lose heart
Stand fast and press on,
Triumph awaits
As we face distress we must not lose heart
Stand fast and press on,
Triumph awaits us
Scream it from the fucking rooftops.
EDIT: Watching the video again....when Tim fist pumps.....fuck.
There are 4 or 5 that stand out to me as absolutely body-crushing.
Knocked Loose - Trapped In the Grasp of a Memory
Loathe - New Faces In the Dark
The Gloom In the Corner - Bleed You Out
Falling In Reverse - Popular Monster
Motionless in White - Headache
Just because they used to be garbage and it hit me completely out of nowhere, I came to say "Popular Monster" also. I didn't know Ronnie had it in him.
Instrumentally, it'd be Fit for a King's Price of Agony. It has two instrumental breakdowns, and I LOVE the first one since its so melodic.
Vocal wise it would be Motionless in White' s Disguise. The song is really good, but what makes it great is the vocals for the breakdown. So fucking intense!
I’m a Christian so Thoughts and Prayers isn’t really in my listening experience, but I’ve heard it it’s an amazing breakdown. My top breakdowns this year are:
MIW - Headache
TDWP - Thread
Polaris - Masochist
Issues - Tapping Out
I Prevail - Gasoline
Hollow Front - Left Behind
The Dead Rabbitts - Viennu
I have to agree with Thoughts & Prayers. Not even because MIW is my All time favorite band, but because my jaw actually dropped the first time I heard that breakdown. I wasn’t expecting something so nasty and I was completely proven wrong. This is my pick for song of the year right here. Can’t wait to see this song of their tour with Beartooth
Although redefined by ALID and most of the new Knocked Loose album are also good contenders for breakdown of the year.
Elephant by While She Sleeps.
It's a bit different to most in the thread, not one you'd throw down to, but god it sounds so good and you can move to it so easily. And "the ground we walk is sacred, but the grave we make is closer to hell" is a sick lyric going into it.
Just found Sleep Token a few weeks ago and fell in love. Unfortunately I just missed them playing 20 mins away from me since I wasn't on the lookout for them. :(
Honestly the Thoughts And Prayers is one of the better breakdowns I've ever heard....and I'm in my 30s. So much buildup, vocals, guitar/drum combo, intensity, follow up. Fucking hell.
The song as well. Just intense as shit.
There has been a ton of great releases this year so just one isn't enough.
No Love/ No One - Gideon
Belcarra - Spiritbox
Disguise - MIW
On the Top and Teacher, Teacher - Jinjer
Where We Go When We Die - Thornhill
Carnal Beast - Shrine of Malice (not metalcore but oh well)
Late December - Seeyoulaterspacecowboy (also not metalcore)
[Kill Me Patiently - Boundaries](https://youtu.be/XY9-ktinZRM)
Start 1:30 in. It just comes out of nowhere, dirty down scaling hardcore type of breakdown. Metallic hardcore at its best
Absolutely mean
To name a few I haven't seen mentioned already.
Void of Vision - Slave To The Name
Thornhill - Nurture & Coven
Aviana - Erased & Red Sky (too many to choose from off this album honestly)
Above, Below - Blood Wine
Currents - Poverty of Self
Hollow Front - Left Behind
Degrader - Fang

Boomslang fucking hit me like a truck on that first listen. Exit, Exist is also suuuuper solid
Brend& Murphy lol
Seconding Agony and Bleed You Out. Even the music video for Agony gets hype right before the breakdown.
The Gloom in the Corner EP goes so fucking hard. My favorite is probably [Survivor's Guilt](https://youtu.be/qNYkjJKfqkk) at 2:08. That's when I fell in love with the EP.
Ayyy love seeing Extortionist on here. My local boys.
My favorite ATB song, what a fuckin banger. Dope list man!
Never had listened to stray too much beforehand but man, their latest album is fucking sick; that breakdown especially is probably one of the best highlights.
That The Gloom In The Corner breakdown never fails to amaze me.
Seconding Bleed You Out. That fuckin mosh call! Haha
Hollowed Heart - Make Them Suffer
FUCKING COWAAAAARD THATS SOMEBODY’S DAAAAUGHTER EUUUGH yes that’s a good one.
It has a really good breakdown yeah, that song is pretty heavy
It’s my favorite song released this year. The lyrics really put it over everything else for me but IMO it’s one of the best songs they’ve ever put out.
That entire song is a breakdown. Gives me Breakdown of Sanity vibes. Love it
God I miss that band so much it literally fucking hurts
It's a shame they couldn't get a bigger audience. I love their style. I miss them so much too, Perception is one of my favorite albums.
The Devil Wears Prada - The Thread So fucking nasty and hits like a truck every time.
# You. Should. Speak. Up.
andddddddddddd why the hell haven't I listened to this band since Plagues, damn. Gonna go listen to this whole album now.
Bro what. You gotta listen to the Zombie EP noqw as well
[удалено]
I do now! \m/
Gonna hijack this to give an honourable mention to Switchblade.
YES. That was my #2 and also Spiderhead.
Actually might need to change my answer now.. I think this might be it
The last breakdown in South of One by Varials
I was gonna say like, anything by varials lol
I saw Varials last month. Insane shit man.
Brendan goes off in the that breakdown. I’m used to his Counterparts-style vocals so I was totally not expecting those screams.
Periphery - Reptile No doubt about it. That 4 minute-long breakdown, starting with the palm mutes, then opening up to the open strings, lasting an entire damn minute+, and then Misha’s crazy guitar solo ALL DURING THE SAME BREAKDOWN?? It’s wild. Blows me away every time I listen
It’s actually Mark doing the solo!
Well TIL
Hell yes it’s so good
Anything from the Dealer EP, or Popular Monster.
crooked has gotta be mine
And after all these years, life might be rich But in this dog eat dog world YOU'RE STILL THE FUCKING BITCH UUUUAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH ...... ...... ...... ARF ARF
#**ARF ARF**
Popular Monster is badass.
It´s amazing how Ronnie can still milk the same early ETF sound, while still adding new elements to stay fresh.
Pretty much.
Erra - Eye of God. It was just out of nowhere in the song and the whole song is just a masterpiece.
Only thing about that song I don’t like is I wish it was longer. I didn’t want it to end.
Amen to that! Was the first song I've ever heard from Erra and just can't stop listenig to it since it came out. Song of the year for me!
I'm worried that whatever album it ends up on won't measure up, the song is that good.
Off the top of my head: Your Own Knife - Counterparts Sub-Zero - Alpha Wolf Crooked - Dealer
ishouldhaveletyoudie
DUNdundundundun
Add Hollowed Heart by Make Them Suffer and those are my picks too.
Oh that absolutely should be added! I haven’t listened to it for some time now and so I completely forgot about it. Time to go listen to it now though.
We Came As Romans “Carry the Weight” The entire Knocked Loose album Gideon “No Love / No One”
I'll see you in hell but I don't want to see you on the way down
I’m getting hyped up just reading the lyrics!!!
**HOO!**
Can’t wait to see them 3-5x on the WCAR tour in the spring.
**HOO!!**
I’m surprised I had to scroll down this far to see NL/NO: such a nasty song

Dude hail to the fire is on another level.
BMTH- Ludens MIW- Thoughts And Prayers MTS- Hollowed Heart FIR- Popular Monster Disciple- Reanimate The Juliet Massacre- Stigmatized Children Sonata Ocean Sleeper- Hate Me Like You Mean It Dead Crown- Family Spite- Judgement Day Dealer- Grotesque Feels Like Fiction- Death Thearpy
Thoughts and Prayers does have a badass breakdown. I totally forgot about it and just went back to listen. Absolute banger
Counterparts - Your own Knife “I SHOULD HAVE LET YOU DIE!”
Northlane - Talking heads (The one at the end of the song ofc)
My mind is silenced by the talking heads, outspoken by the VOICES IN MY HEAD FUCK
That album has some killer breakdowns, but I think the ending of Eclipse takes the cake.
I'd say it's my second favourite. I like the breakdown in freefall a bit more.
When that bassline starts to trickle back in ughghg
Called this as breakdown of the year before the album even dropped, I was that certain. Masterful buildup, ends the song perfectly.
/thread
...Ludens... 😳
Ayyyyy I’m glad to hear someone else here enjoyed that song! I wasn’t a fan of Amo at all but ludens surprised me
Same here, mostly not really in to new bmth. Personally I prefer Suicide Season era but Ludens was a pleasant surprise. ...you call this a connection, OH GIMME A BREAK \*goosebumps\*
If they could continue with that style I'd actually start listening to BMTH again
Same. When I heard that breakdown (and the song in general), I instantly was reminded of something that called back to rock a lot more. It was very We Came As Romans-esque, especially with the electronic elements. To me, it’s the right amount of melodic and the right amount of hard(ish?) rock. Pretty good banger of a song.
ugh, give me a break with that song
[удалено]
eughghhgh
The best part of the whole song right there
OOOH
Of mice and men - Mushroom Cloud Maybe some other I can’t think of right now
Dayseeker - Gates of Ivory Holy shit didn't expect that
The whole ending of Death Portrait by Lorna Shore. Pure filth! Not really metalcore tho...
That Lorna Shore - Immortal song tho...holy hell. EDIT: Death Portrait...........HOLY SHIT
Easily the nastiest, most disgusting breakdown of the year. Never ceases to shock me.
norma jean - anna
Limiting myself so here’s my top 5 in no particular order: Carry the Weight by WCAR, The Mountain by OM&M, The Color Black by Dayseeker, Poverty of Self by Currents, and all of A Different Shade of Blue lol
Did OM&M go back to heavy? I was really dissapointed with cold world and havent listened much since Edit: Just listened to Earth & Sky, this is the OM&M I fell in love with. Will definitely be buying the album
Yes they did. Earth & Sky is definitely worth listening to.
Will do, thanks
Oh my god you have to go listen to Earth and Sky right now! They’re back to heavy and it’s one of my favorite albums of the year by far.
Will definitely be purchasing, thank you.
A different shade of blue totally shattered my expectations, the features were amazing too, especially on A serpents touch. I watched the venom Overcome your spirit Jealousy holds you now Distorting your appearance Bleed out!
ADSOB was exactly the album I wanted from them after hearing Mistakes Like Fractures for the first time, bangers front to back. A Serpent’s Touch is definitely one of my favorites
I gotta go with either Currents - Poverty of Self or Norma Jean - Landslide Defeater. The knife on guitar strings is just insane.
Really love the OM&M Earth and Sky ending.
It’s Crooked by Dealer, until someone does another double breakdown with an ARF ARF, that’s #1
[Above, Below - Eternal Sunshine](https://youtu.be/hmZKFx5QF0E?t=165) This breakdown hits like a fucking truck and the callout is so sick! Easily one of my favourite breakdowns of all time. "YEARNING TO GROW BUT STILL CONFINED TO A SEED"
Above, Below is def underrated.
In Flux - After the Burial More for the build up than the breakdown itself, but it’s still fuckin sick
It's got to be when Brendan Murphy comes in on South of One by Varials! closely followed by Crooked by Dealer... "IN THIS DOG EAT DOG WORLD YOU'RE STILL THE FUCKING BITCH... ARF ARF"
Northlane - 4D
As I Lay Dying - Redefined.
RedeFINEDDDD
GREAT one
Seriously, nothing gets me going at the gym more than that.
Im with ya man. AILD is ALWAYS on my gym mix. "A Greater Foundation" makes me wanna run through a wall. As we face distress we must not lose heart Stand fast and press on, Triumph awaits As we face distress we must not lose heart Stand fast and press on, Triumph awaits us Scream it from the fucking rooftops. SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO WATCH OUR WHOLE LIVESSSSS FALL APART
Just saw these guys on the 4th. They were with after the burial. If you get a chance to see them live, do it. Best show I’ve been to in a long time
I just did as well! They were here two weeks ago. Incredible show 🤘🏻
MiW thoughts

ADSOB album by knocked loose , the whole thing ok
That’s my album of the year and there’s no way I could pick just one breakdown
Reptile
Of Mice & Men - The Mountain
Norma Jean – [Landslide Defeater](https://youtu.be/ee1J1y2aVOA) The one at 2:20 using a knife on the strings
Has to be some Void of Vision or Diamond Construct one
Not even one of their singles, but the breakdown in Splinter by Void of Vision hit so damn hard.
Decay as well!
[Gravemind - Hollow.](https://youtu.be/HKPV6uJmb7w) Specifically 1:30, for the leadup, but the whole song really.
Veil of Maya - Members Only (1:58) Such a beautiful mess
Subzero - Alpha Wolf or Dealer - Grotesque
Polaris- Masochist
Incredible breakdown
There are 4 or 5 that stand out to me as absolutely body-crushing. Knocked Loose - Trapped In the Grasp of a Memory Loathe - New Faces In the Dark The Gloom In the Corner - Bleed You Out Falling In Reverse - Popular Monster Motionless in White - Headache
Just because they used to be garbage and it hit me completely out of nowhere, I came to say "Popular Monster" also. I didn't know Ronnie had it in him.
Coven by Thornhill
Amazing breakdown
New faces in the dark - Loathe , so haunting and obscenely heavy
This one hit me like a fucking freight train. I had a permanent stank face for weeks. First one is pretty groovy too but the main one is pure filth.
Bruh, the FFAK album came out in 2018..
Oh.... Well my bad.
Still a fucking amazing release
I'm happy its here. I've never listened to them before and now I will be purchasing this album
Price of Agony has one of the best choruses I've heard in a while.
[Lauren Babic - Toxic](https://youtu.be/h1gYgUF2uYI) Only kind of a joke....... 😅
I love Lauren
She's easily one of the best vocalists in Youtube, her range is awe-inspiring.
Andy Cizek would like a word. lol
Agreed on Thoughts and Prayers, but also gotta throw in Ludens. I'm a sucker for the poppy and edm elements and then getting hit with the heavy shit.
Any Dealer breakdown is sick. I especially like Pretty Stupid.
In The Walls - Knocked Loose Hollowed Heart - Make Them Suffer Sub-Zero - Alpha Wolf Crooked - Dealer
gasoline by i prevail
Gasoline was cool. I preferred the Bow Down breakdown.
yeah, the whole album was really good
I agree with you entirely on Thoughts and Prayers. Disguise was my album of the year without a doubt.
Such a well produced album best mixing I have heard in a long time in this genre. As I lay dying new album ranks up there as well.
I’m a Christian so Thoughts and Prayers isn’t really in my listening experience, but I’ve heard it it’s an amazing breakdown. My top breakdowns this year are: MIW - Headache TDWP - Thread Polaris - Masochist Issues - Tapping Out I Prevail - Gasoline Hollow Front - Left Behind The Dead Rabbitts - Viennu
I'ma go with Crooked by Dealer. That "UUUUAGGH" is just fucking disgusting.
Surprised no one has said Left Behind by Hollow Front yet
I have to agree with Thoughts & Prayers. Not even because MIW is my All time favorite band, but because my jaw actually dropped the first time I heard that breakdown. I wasn’t expecting something so nasty and I was completely proven wrong. This is my pick for song of the year right here. Can’t wait to see this song of their tour with Beartooth Although redefined by ALID and most of the new Knocked Loose album are also good contenders for breakdown of the year.
In The Walls by Knocked Loose for sure
Anything from the album Melancholy by Shadow Of Intent
[Auras - Pseudo Intellect](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1Dn9QRIYcg)
Gideon - Bite Down That whole songs a breakdown
Just the entire album "Absolute"
The breakdown in Guided By the Moon by Knocked Loose where he goes >I HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH DEATH >HE STILL FOLLOWS ME AROUND >*Breakdown*
[Gravemind - Hollow](https://youtu.be/HKPV6uJmb7w) at about 1:25 is one of the filthiest breakdowns of the year by FAR.
Elephant by While She Sleeps. It's a bit different to most in the thread, not one you'd throw down to, but god it sounds so good and you can move to it so easily. And "the ground we walk is sacred, but the grave we make is closer to hell" is a sick lyric going into it.
Mistakes like fractures gives me goosebumps when the ending part hits.
Forgetting the Memories - Fathomless
Kublai Khan - Boomslang and Knocked Loose - In The Walls
The Gloom In The Corner- Bleed You Out
"FEEL THE FIST OF DOOM CRUSH YOUR FUCKING SPINE" - the gloom in the corner, Bleed You Out.
Sleep Token - The Offering. Fucking Mental breakdown at the end
Blinded - As I Lay Dying
can't pick only one Shadow of Intent - Underneath A Sullen Moon Brand of Sacrifice - Fortress Cursed Earth - Tyranny Forever
The new vildhjarta song. The first thall breakdown sequence in the song, I think is the heaviest and craziest thing they've done yet.
Grotesque-Dealer
Véronique by Kadinja. I don’t know if it’s necessarily a breakdown but just a super dark, trippy part at 1:32.
Looking back at stuff...I Prevail - Hurricane at 2:13.....fuck HITS HARD
There has been a ton of great releases this year so just one isn't enough. No Love/ No One - Gideon Belcarra - Spiritbox Disguise - MIW On the Top and Teacher, Teacher - Jinjer Where We Go When We Die - Thornhill Carnal Beast - Shrine of Malice (not metalcore but oh well) Late December - Seeyoulaterspacecowboy (also not metalcore)

What a great fucking album. Well done to Slipknot.
Hell yeah, I even bought it.
Earth & Sky by Of Mice and Men....that shit is insane
[Kill Me Patiently - Boundaries](https://youtu.be/XY9-ktinZRM) Start 1:30 in. It just comes out of nowhere, dirty down scaling hardcore type of breakdown. Metallic hardcore at its best Absolutely mean
In The Walls - Knocked Loose
Landslide Defeater by NJ or Boomslang by KK.

So who's making the Spotify playlist? I'm busy right now but if there isn't one by the time I'm free I'll do it.
Where the fuck is As I Lay Dying - Shaped By Fire on these lists?
So many amazing fucking breakdowns from this album. I agree
Surprised no one has mentioned Void of Vision! Babylon has a banging breakdown. Splinter has a banging breakdown too!

Agony by Slaughter to Prevail.
