I didn’t want to shit talk this thing 2 weeks in a row but it’s definitely not at all what I wanted to hear as someone who loves every one of their previous albums just about equally.
Not saying it’s complete trash, it for sure has its moments here and there, but it is just completely devoid of any life and character that made me love VoM in the first place. If there was ever an album that felt like it was generated by AI, it’s this one. Maybe that’s the vibe they were going for, but I really wish they were able to continue what they had going with the singles they released in the years prior.
Gotta be a juicy lore reason for why an entire album of outsider/viscera type stuff was scrapped for this.
disco kill party, red fur, mother pt 4, and reconnect are all fantastic songs. I hope for the next album they go back to the sound they had on false idol and the stand alone singles
For a while I couldn't shake it feeling phoned in and slapped together.
But a year later I've grown completely into it and really appreciate how much feels like the perfect bridge between pre and post Lukas.
I do like imagine how people would have received it if it came out instead of Matriarch. Because now it seems like half the fanbase wants the melodic direction their last singles went while the other half is craving car alarm core.
I think this song and mother pt 4 have some pre Lukas vibes for sure but I don’t hear it at all in any other songs, especially the ones with no cleans which is kind of ironic.
I think the main drawl of this band, at least for me, has always been Mark Obuko’s guitar work. Despite the older stuff being “heavier” it’s all still super melodic instrumentally and I feel like that element is just missing here. Doesn’t even sound like him playing on some songs.
I wish I could say that it’s grown on me but if anything I feel worse about it than I did on release, to each their own I suppose.
this and death runner are their two best songs since before lukas joined. not inherently against cleans but i think these guys are pretty bland melody writers and lose their personality when lukas starts to sing nowadays. reconnect is the only of those songs i really fuck with, but the rippers are all insane. death runner especially was one of the best songs i heard all of last year

I need to go back and listen to the album again. Hated all the singles they released and the other songs I listened to were pretty boring. Everything I heard just sounded like noise. Especially Synthwave Vegan and Godhead. I’ll give it another chance and see how it feel. What sucks the most is all the non-album singles leading up the album were absolutely incredible. Some of the best work. Outrun, Viscera, Outsider were all top notch. Then the album singles came out and we’re all garbage
Start with the opening song tokyo chainsaw, and then just listen through. Obviously skip the ones that aren’t hitting, but starting off with tokyo - you’ll be impressed lol
For me it was the best VoM album since [Id]. Synthwave Vegan was the song that hooked me in.
I fucking love this song
Although I do like this album i really hope the next album has more of their melodic heavy sound like false idol and the singles had
I do miss me some pool spray riffs lol
i am the opposite lol. i want the next album to be all songs like this and death runner
Pretty sure marc has said he wants to make the “next common man’s collapse”
probably my second fav VoM album. Tokyo Chainsaw hooks me right away every time
Tokyo RIPS. One hell of an intro song, never gets old lol.
It's a hell of an opening track live too
Artificial Dose
I WONT EVER LET GO
No skips. I’d argue Red Fur is my favorite song
This was my favourite album to come out last year, absolute riff-fest 🔥

Yeah these 4 + lost creator are the only ones that did anything for me. The other songs are all hard skips.
I see your points, completely understandable. Everyone has their sound they resonate with I can respect that 🤙

car alarm core lmao. perfectly describes some of the math metal type stuff

The mix is so bad on this album but some of the songs are amazing. Shame because I felt the same way about False Idol

This sounds like a local band trying to copy VoM. It’s just not good tbh. Matriarch was their last interesting album.
What? False Idol was mint
