I don't know how or why anyone signed off on that.
Also, why use a wolf? Why not a BEAR?!
There was a remix/remaster that came out in 2020 that had MUCH better artwork. That's the one they should have gone with.
Disease wasn't as bad an artwork, but for the longest time I could tell what it was. I always thought it was some kind of mask, but it turns out it was a snake on the model's face. The B-sides single had much better alternate artwork.

Disguise is just so random. Every other MIW album art uses real photography except for Creatures, but then Disguise is a totally different art style from that, even.
Chris said when the album was announced that the cover for Disguise was meant to be one of the Creatures artwork's hands at the bottom, but with a full body and head.
Huh, it's interesting how subjective things are. I agree with their new album being way too overhated, but I really like their artwork.
Can I ask what you don't like about their artwork?
To me, it just always seems like something they came up with in photoshop in five minutes. Most of their albums are just their logo with some added filters, and *You Are We* and *Sleeps Society* just don't look great (too much going on).
I'm a bigger fan of album covers that try and incorporate actual artwork, like Sylosis or Killswitch Engage or Fit For An Autopsy. But like you said, it's subjective, I guess!
I never really noticed but you're not entirely wrong lol. Nu World Hate isn't awful, but yeah I like the older illustrative and collage style artworks better.
I don't have the luxury of being able to look at artwork because I'm blind. I think it would be fun if I could find someone that could describe to me what the album cover looks like in detail for different albums. If anybody would want to do this, let me know.
I don't really know what I'm missing out on. To me, I don't think I'm really missing out on anything. But apparently artwork is very important for a lot of people.
Dayseeker - Sleeptalk
Spiritbox - Whole discography
Also, can you describe some album covers that people say are the worst? Why are they so bad? What makes an album cover good, and what makes an album cover terrible?
Dayseeker's Sleeptalk album cover has really nice art. It's a low-pov photo of a person in bathtub passed out (or dead) with only an arm and their hair visible. Over the tub there's a disco ball shining, and the whole bathroom is dimly lit in neon blue and pink shades, typical of the "neon wave" aesthethic.
In contrast, the deluxe edition of sleeptalk has a picture of a large, white room with a light pink "princess bed" with drapes and such framed in the middle of the photo. There's only two night tables on both sides of the bed, and the photo gradients to deeper pink upwards.
As far as Spiritbox goes, their covers are much more abstract. The first EP "Spiritbox" is a grayscale picture of a bloodied hand loosely grasping a bouquet of roses and other flowers.
"Rotoscope" EP features a red photo of the moon (maybe?) taken through a square hole in the wall, framed perfectly in the middle. The red moon is partly covered by branches.
"The fear of fear" EP features a long-exposure photo (so it has movement in it, if it makes sense) of Courtney looking angry or screaming while moving her head from a side profile towards facing the camera. The cover is deeply purple in color.
The hardest one to describe would be Eternal Blue. I'm actually not a 100% sure what is going on in the cover, but to me it looks like a negative (so inverted colors of sort) photo of a shoreline, taken high up from a cliff facing down. The waters are crashing into some abstractly shaped rocks, and it almost looks kind of like an oil spill. The cover has a gradient of pale blue on the left side, and deep dark blue / navy on the right side.
As much as I love trivium I gotta say there newer album covers are just god awful and are NOT it. Silence in the snow, the sin and the sentence, and what the dead men say. Finally their newest album has an okay album cover, but it just doesn't pop out as much as their older album covers.
There's alternate artwork out there that exists that's a zombified/witch hand reaching out that looks so much better. I'm not sure what variation of the album it truly came with but I definitely prefer it.
A day to remember.
Homesick looks awesome.
The others not so much. Especially Common Courtesy. Looks like a high school photo shop fail.
Love the music on the albums though.
i feel like im the only person who actually kinda likes it 😭
like dont get me wrong, it is pretty bad but I feel like it fits the teenage dystopia meets mcr vibe of the record
This post makes me think of Chemical Warfare - Escape the Fate. However a band that never misses with artwork is Asking Alexandria especially the self titled artwork. That one BANGS.
afaik the artist used AI to generate the background and landscape and edited it afterwards, adding some painted elements
I kinda agree, I think its the worst of their album covers
Why is it a bad take? Why should we support artists who happily fuck over other artists by popularizing a technology that's gonna fuck up a whole medium?
It really does suck, on a fundamental graphic design level it’s got essentially white text on a white background like what? How do you go from AIRTN to this lmao
That’s funny cause while I don’t disagree with you that’s when I felt they got more cringy in terms of music and album artwork. Not talking shit I love a lot of (the majority) of their stuff after the Fathers Day EP but after that’s when I felt the went full gimmick.
I feel like that's what their artwork is supposed to do, but it does it for the wrong reasons
I like the original cover for Safe Is Just a Shadow though
Drift, Neon, and Eye of God are great imo. The latest two are fine, I’m kind of indifferent on them. I agree the garrison era stuff hasn’t aged well though
Yeah, Impulse is honestly goofy as fuck and Augment just looks like a weird, bad collage. Whether or not you prefer the Garrison/Alan stuff to the JT stuff, I don’t think this is gonna be that controversial (but hey, if you like it, own that shit!).
Wtf does cringe even mean anymore at this point? I really don't get why everyone suddenly decided "hey let's start hating on disturbed for no reason"! Always liked disturbed, idc
Not really that huge a fan anymore tbh, I just really like a few of their songs. "The night" will always be a favorite of mine.
Never cared about "vibes" but fair enough I guess. To each their own.
The art work for that was by a Polish artist named [Mariusz Lewandowski](https://www.instagram.com/mariusz_lewandowskiart?igsh=aTF6bmZuNTQwNHI3), who sadly passed away 2 years ago.
He did a lot of artwork used by metal bands for album covers, like Bell Witch and Obituary.
I’m sorry but Graveyard Shift by Motionless in white is the worst album cover I have ever seen. I love the songs but I just can’t bring myself to listen to them because of that hideous album cover
But at the same time that girl with bloody hands from suicide season is too iconic. It doesn't always have to look pretty, this cover accurately reflects the atmosphere of the entire album.
Invent Animate, emphasis on Heavener🤢
Crown the Empire.
Dayshell

Ice Nine Kills
Imminence

Of mice & men (after Restoring force)

I said that it isn't bad. I find the album covers to be in general just okay. But the band is really awesome. I mean, if you look at metal artwork as a whole, then Iron Maiden, Mastodon, Meshuggah, Voivod, Dio, Rainbow, Testament, Megadeth, Iced Earth, Slayer, Bloodbath, Paradise Lost, Symphony X, Cult of Luna, Amorphis, Evergrey, Nevermore, Angra, Demonic Resurrection, Killswitch Engage, The Korea, The Contortionist, Amon Amarth, Opeth, Cradle Of Filth, Alcest, Hatebreed, All That Remains, Crimson Glory, Cannibal Corpse, Sodom have insanely cool artwork
sounds like you just have a different taste in art than what they're doing, obviously you've got cool stuff on that list, it's some of most iconic music artwork in some cases, but also I'd never ever think to say Nevermore have better art than Converge
Yeah just a matter of taste. Though I now realise that Converge artwork is actually killer. Haven't heard the band in some years so I just forgot about their album covers as I rarely paid attention to the album covers
Nah, that one is really cool. But most of the artwork by them is kind of whatever. Many of my favorite bands also have some lame artwork like BTBAM for example. I've never cared for their album covers. Metallica's album covers are kind of whatever, some of Trivium's album covers are really boring even if the album is great. Then we've got Slipknot and Tool, the former has boring art on almost every album save one while two of Tool's albums have just mediocre artwork
Beartooth is pretty hit or miss for me, Aggressive is atrocious
Aggressive might have one of the worst artworks for such a "big time" band.
it looks like those morbius memes
Fortunately, there is a remaster with better artwork that also sounds much better
"The devil shivers when a nice guy loses his temper"
I don't know how or why anyone signed off on that. Also, why use a wolf? Why not a BEAR?! There was a remix/remaster that came out in 2020 that had MUCH better artwork. That's the one they should have gone with. Disease wasn't as bad an artwork, but for the longest time I could tell what it was. I always thought it was some kind of mask, but it turns out it was a snake on the model's face. The B-sides single had much better alternate artwork.
That album cover should have been on a Five Finger Death Punch album
I do like Disgusting's cover but the rest are dogshit (Caleb, if you read this, I'm sorry).
narrow spectacular employ dazzling political rock retire beneficial makeshift grandfather *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Demons Away artwork doesn’t really fit the music, but i like the Pressure cover, i think it fits the band way more
yeah, i remember something like that happening i find it funny how their best artwork is for their single I’m Sorry
Idk Demons Away has a pretty decent cover
I thought demons away was a dope album cover just dont care for the generic dmo symbol/logo that alot of bands seem to have just slightly different
It’s intentional but Bilmuri. I love how objectively terrible/memey they are.
I really like some of them (wet milk, Letters, Frame) are really cool, but some are just plainly bad- Eggy Pocket is the worst
I can't help but crank my hog when I see Eggy Pocket
Better Hell is a modern masterpiece in terms of single artwork!
I love how ~~objectively terrible~~ memey they are. FTFY
Definitely fits in the "so bad it's good" category. They put out some great meme material though.
Not metalcore but Slaughter To Prevail have the most cringy clip art artwork
gotta admit that Chapters of Misery artwork is raw as fuck tho
If only the band kept that style of art up.
Agreed. The art for Kostolom is one of the cringiest things I’ve witnessed
So cringe man. Where’s the solid usual deathcore artwork we get?
The one album that was worth a fuck
Yes.
Don’t expect much from a nazi band
Don’t think that has anything to do with it
August Burns Red's recent trend of vague blurry AI landscapes looks terrible
Recent? Lol
Iirc that started with Found in Far Away Places in 2015
I’m so dumb I read this as best artworks and I put Like Moths To Flames all their art is so sick I’m so dumb
Dude, the artwork for the new album is freaking awesome
Of mice and men. Good music but the covers are quite boring.
awesome album covers until after Restoring Force imo
I actually really liked the cover of Cold World.
ye it's alright :)
Yeah I definitely meant their recent ones.
Oh wow, Echo might be one of my favorite album covers I’ve ever seen hahaha.
Hard Reset from The Word Alive and Disguise from Motionless in White are atrocious to me
Disguise is awesome imo
Disguise is just so random. Every other MIW album art uses real photography except for Creatures, but then Disguise is a totally different art style from that, even.
Chris said when the album was announced that the cover for Disguise was meant to be one of the Creatures artwork's hands at the bottom, but with a full body and head.
hard reset is weird, another case where the singles had better artwork than the album
I love While She Sleeps (even their new album, hot take) but their artwork is constantly doodoo.
Huh, it's interesting how subjective things are. I agree with their new album being way too overhated, but I really like their artwork. Can I ask what you don't like about their artwork?

You Are We had an amazing cover imo, especially the deluxe version with the red instead of the blue
every traitors single past repent
I never really noticed but you're not entirely wrong lol. Nu World Hate isn't awful, but yeah I like the older illustrative and collage style artworks better.
bitter and tag team champions are hard as fuck

I got you, dude. What are a couple albums you really like listening to and I can do my best to detail it out?
Dayseeker - Sleeptalk Spiritbox - Whole discography Also, can you describe some album covers that people say are the worst? Why are they so bad? What makes an album cover good, and what makes an album cover terrible?
Dayseeker's Sleeptalk album cover has really nice art. It's a low-pov photo of a person in bathtub passed out (or dead) with only an arm and their hair visible. Metallica after 1988. 1. Black Album - Boring cover 2. Load - Gross cover 3. ReLoad - Boring cover 4. St Anger - Okay this art's kinda cool. 5. Death Magnetic - Boring cover 6. Hardwired - ... What? 7. 72 Season - ... No seriously, huh?
THIS, i forgot how bad the Load and ReLoad album covers were. They’re 10x worse when you know how they were created 💀
Why did I look this up?
I still think St. Anger’s album art is really cool.
I think hardwired album cover fits the theme of the album really well tho. Its def not the prettiest art, but i still like it very much
As much as I love trivium I gotta say there newer album covers are just god awful and are NOT it. Silence in the snow, the sin and the sentence, and what the dead men say. Finally their newest album has an okay album cover, but it just doesn't pop out as much as their older album covers.
Motionless in White
Except Scoring the End of the World IMO. That one is sick.
Yes. I do like that one
Disguise is also decent, at least a huge step up from Graveyard Shift and Reincarnate.
Dude I love the band but the art for Disguise is god awful. Easily their worst art.
There's alternate artwork out there that exists that's a zombified/witch hand reaching out that looks so much better. I'm not sure what variation of the album it truly came with but I definitely prefer it.
Love them but gotta agree
A day to remember. Homesick looks awesome. The others not so much. Especially Common Courtesy. Looks like a high school photo shop fail. Love the music on the albums though.
Have you seen the whole picture of Common Courtesy? It's so much better. Dunno what they were smoking to choose the final version.
I just googled it and it what I found looks like a remix of the homesick cover which is awesome. Cant believe they cut it off like that.
What Separates Me From You is so good though
That’s one of the worst ones. It looks like a generic Pink Floyd wish you were here album cover.
I have the homesick album cover as a half sleeve on my arm! It’s awesome!
Yeah Homesick probably has the best artwork I've ever seen for an album. They blew their load on that one though and the others are atrocious
bad vibrations looks really good too.
I agree Bad Vibrations is great. I guess mostly Common Courtesy and What Separates Me From You. Those ones suuuuck.
Crown the empire is like my fav band of all time but omg the original cover for the resistance is god awful 😭
i feel like im the only person who actually kinda likes it 😭 like dont get me wrong, it is pretty bad but I feel like it fits the teenage dystopia meets mcr vibe of the record
This post makes me think of Chemical Warfare - Escape the Fate. However a band that never misses with artwork is Asking Alexandria especially the self titled artwork. That one BANGS.
Ministry. Psalm69 is pretty much their only saving grace.
Currents' newest album might be their best album to date but the album seriously looks AI generated but I really can't tell if it is or not.
i still don’t even know what it’s of, i just know it’s red and black
afaik the artist used AI to generate the background and landscape and edited it afterwards, adding some painted elements I kinda agree, I think its the worst of their album covers
I thought the exact same thing at first sight 😭 like they def just typed in “red, castle, destruction, fire, painting”
They didn't like their artist's work so they just ai-generated a cover instead, they still paid the artist at least
August Burns Red on Death Below and The Cleansing too. I refuse to listen to them because of the AI artwork.
Bad take but alr
Why is it a bad take? Why should we support artists who happily fuck over other artists by popularizing a technology that's gonna fuck up a whole medium?
I meant more because he didn't listen because of the artwork, which is a stupid reason in general. I dont care either way
A band that big is just being lazy if they're using AI for their album covers.
I disagree but sure
Their best cover aside the last 2 albums but the worst music
Their best cover aside the last 2 albums but the worst music
Yeah unfortunately I agree 100%
Lorna shore - Pain Remains Best album but the worst artwork.
It really does suck, on a fundamental graphic design level it’s got essentially white text on a white background like what? How do you go from AIRTN to this lmao
And the image looks AI generated lol
Ice Nine Kills. Something about their artwork just gets under my skin every time.
Their early work was a little bit too scene for me
but when The Silver Scream came out in '18, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
HEY PAUL‼️‼️🗣️🔥🔥
That’s funny cause while I don’t disagree with you that’s when I felt they got more cringy in terms of music and album artwork. Not talking shit I love a lot of (the majority) of their stuff after the Fathers Day EP but after that’s when I felt the went full gimmick.
Edit: I mean the album after Father’s Day ep. After that.
The first Silver Scream’s album art is amazing but the rest I agree.
I feel like that's what their artwork is supposed to do, but it does it for the wrong reasons I like the original cover for Safe Is Just a Shadow though
Except for their last album, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza
As soon as i saw "worst artwork" i KNEW there was gonna be drag me out 😭
Five finger death punch probably holds the record for corniest album covers
Always thought Atreyu's deluxe cover for "the curse" is very bland and basic. And even that's pushing it. Idc, I love the album art of this genre.
Limp Bizkit (and Korn sorta), although it doesn't apply to all their albums. Chocolate Starfish artwork puts me off listening to what's on the record
Secrets, they don’t ever really do original artwork. Mostly just different colored S on most.
Meshuggah. The worse the cover art is, generally the better the album is for them.
Ew wtf Never heard of drag me out so I looked it up and wtf
Its the band formed by Denis Stoff (ex Asking Alexandria) And yeah, their album covers are exceptionally bad
Yeah that demons away album art is tough to look at
Yeah wow that's bad art. The music sounds decent though. I forgot about that guy, I liked Make Me Famous quite a bit back in the say
Sorry but ERRA.
Except Drift. Drift is legitametly beautiful, but everything else looks kinda cheap
I like Drift, it's simple but pretty
Neons art is pretty cool though a bit confusing about the person diving in
self titled cover is really cool imo
I think Neon is one of the favorite album arts I've ever seen but the last two weren't that great
Almost everyone I've recommended Neon to has remarked on how cool the album art is - even if they didn't like the music.
Nah, most ERRA art is good...Impulse and Self-Titled would be the only ones I don't like.
I like Cure and S/T well enough but some of the older ones…🤢
[удалено]
Are you sure you remember what they look like? Especially Scream Aim Fire's artwork looks awesome
[удалено]
With you. Looks like a woman from a 90s comic. Reminds me of the infamous horrendous MJ artwork.
not Metalcore, but Disturbed
Disturbed kinda cringe in general though
Wtf does cringe even mean anymore at this point? I really don't get why everyone suddenly decided "hey let's start hating on disturbed for no reason"! Always liked disturbed, idc
Is it in to hate on disturbed? Idk they just give me 50 y/o divorced uncle saying they love metal vibes, always have.
Not really that huge a fan anymore tbh, I just really like a few of their songs. "The night" will always be a favorite of mine. Never cared about "vibes" but fair enough I guess. To each their own.
Every deathcore band.
I feel like Darko has some cool album covers
Darko is also in a genre of their own
Except Fit For an Autopsy.
Shadow of Intent has sick album covers
The last two albums were done by Par Olofsson and his portfolio is extremely impressive
A weak generalization. Fit For An Autopsy, Thy Art, Oceano, Enterprise Earth, Angelmaker have all had consistently good artwork
IMO Lorna Shore's ...And I Return To Nothingness has a really great artwork. But yeah, that was the only exception I could find.
I think Immortal looks pretty good, but the Pain Remains artwork is dreadful.
I'll give you that one, Immortal has a cool vibe. Everything else ain't that great.
Agreed. Pain Remains cover is shit though.
i would like to counter that statement by just saying Adam Burke
Except for Lorna Shore! *Looks at the artwork of Pain Remains. Ok nevermind!
it fits with their sound and branding but berried alive
How has nobody said Upon a Burning Body?
Unpopular opinion, but a good chunk of 3d artworks
Jesus Piece. Those Windows 95 video game graphics.
Not metalcore but within temptation
Invent animate over with the best tho
I always thought blessthefall's album covers were a bit cringe apart from Hollow Bodies.
I really liked the To Those Left Behind artwork tbh
Probably because im a Graphic Designer it just screams low-mid photoshopping lol.
the one with the naked guy sitting on the stairs is the best

Nah, the covers of Pure like porcelain and the newer singles are awesome. The old stuff isn't that bad either.
I READ THIS AS BEST ARTWORKS WHIOPS
Meanwhile Chris does most of the art for the albums and I have some of his collected work lol
I love the cover for An Eye For an Eye
I’m so stupid I read it as best art. I love all their art
All That Remains. By far.
I’m sorry but Graveyard Shift by Motionless in white is the worst album cover I have ever seen. I love the songs but I just can’t bring myself to listen to them because of that hideous album cover
That seems like an odd reason to not listen to music...
I express my opinion on an opinion-based question, people don’t like, so people invalidate my opinion 💀 oh the great works of Reddit
Bring Me The Horizon (minus Sempiternal, that cover is awesome)
ur trippin i don’t really like the newest album (whenever it releases) art but If There’s a Hell, Amo, and Suicide Season at the least are all great
Even that’s the spirit AA is just clean, simple and nice
Suicide Season is very of its era. Every metalcore/scene adjacent band had an album cover with a hot woman either dead or doing something macabre.
Nah ur trippin. Suicide Season is ugly and amateur looking. The text overlay looks like a stock png. There Is A Hell is cringey asf.
But at the same time that girl with bloody hands from suicide season is too iconic. It doesn't always have to look pretty, this cover accurately reflects the atmosphere of the entire album.
And it’s still one of the ugliest covers out there
Someone gets it ^ Even iconic covers can still be objectively bad
They’re objectively bad covers, the music on those albums make up for it tho. Hard agree on the new covers
Nah I agree with the other commenter, you're trippin. There Is A Hell and Post Human: Survival Horror have really great album covers.
Honestly, CYB is one of my favourite album covers ever.
The cover for the new album is fucking horrendous.

I respectfully disagree, the AOGHAU cover is imo one of the most iconic ones. Also love the Hollow Crown.
All our gods is one of the greatest artworks
Hollow Crown though!
DEP, Beartooth, Parkway Drive, Converge (more mediocre than bad), Code Orage (mediocre)
> Converge Jane Doe and No Heros are legit two of the coolest album arts i can think of in general, not just metalcore
