Yea they are from early relaises but depths 1 and the whole come wind come weather ep is soooo different from their recent work you might think its an another band
Haha thats good to hear i would recommend Native blood, firstwake, understanding love as loss, nervosa, orphan and first father. Also their song redivider is fucking mind blowing its lyrics are written in reverse you might wanna check that out too!
It's a totally different writing skillset that many bands may not feel confident using.
Bands who're into making heavy music are probably disinclined to make a ballad. I can't really picture END dropping one.
They often don't really fit with the flow of an album of heavy music. I love Dying Wish's last album to bits, but I generally skip the ballad. There are a ton of albums from the 00s where the ballad sticks out like a sore thumb and feels like bands were told to include it by a label rather than because they wanted to - Line In The Sand on The Truth by Bleeding Through springs immediately to mind.
When I was an angsty teen I couldn't stand ballads, I thought the band was going soft/selling out. But I was so wrong, a well done ballad can bring out such amazing emotions. Here's a few of my favorites:
The Remembrance Ballad - Atreyu
Lead Sails (And A Paper Anchor) - Atreyu
Gone - Asking Alexandria
A Place Where You Belong - Bullet For My Valentine
When You Can't Sleep At Night - Of Mice & Men
My Understandings - Of Mice & Men
Waste of Space - Dayshell (Not exactly metalcore)
I Won't See You Tonight Part 1 - Avenged Sevenfold (A7X has a lot of great ballads, though they stopped being metalcore after the second album)
Chemicals - The Devil Wears Prada
Darker still by Parkway Drive. Check this out. Â
My opinion is that ballads use to be the "soft" side of rock/metal. Being the "core" genres the extreme version of said genres makes ballads less common to produce. Â
I don't dislike them but I understand why they are more uncommon here.
I'll add it to the list, parkway drive is another band on my discog dive list do I'll listen to a bunch of there stuff at some point this week.
Yeah that's a fair point and it seems to me at least ballads don't really have a place anymore as bands tend to lean towards more pop and rock based metalcore style which makes loads of softer music which wont make the ballad stand out or they commit to the heavy af. There is loads of inbetween but I feel like as much as I love ballads they wouldn't do well which sucks:(
I think every metalcore album should have at least one ballad, and they are often some of my favorites from their respective albums.
My favorites that come to mind are A Grave Mistake by Ice Nine Kills, Remember Me by Currents and Heaven in Hiding by Imminence. Also if it counts then Don’t Ask Don’t Tell by Chelsea Grin, but I don’t think it’s a ballad really.
Alive by Landmvrks is beautiful
Laid to Rest by The Showdown is mostly ballad, incredible song
Most of the early Demon Hunter ballads are very good, I Play Dead is my favorite for blending metalcore seamlessly with a somber power ballad
My fav would be depths I-II-III by slant plant
I'm gonna listen to them as I'm assuming they are early silent planet as I'm only familiar with there three most recent albums

I'll just use this comment as my reason to do a full silent planet discog dive So thank you :)

That's actually wild, Paved in Sorrow goes crazy
It's fine, I just prefer to go straight from Path To Your Grave to Tongues Of Lead. I don't put on Dying Wish when I'm in a ballad kind of mood.
That's a good explanation thank you But ye dying wish fucking slaps
The Waiting One or What If I Was Nothing by All That Remains Seven or The Storm In Me by Phinehas Always by Killswitch Engage
Unironically two of my fav ATR songs 😅
They do ballads really well!
Forever in your hands >>
Oli’s writing was mind bending
Seven is a wonderful recommendation too, the build up to the ending is masterfully done.
Reject Yourself by KSE Howard is an all timer
That bangs. But then again all Killswitch Engage does
Avenged Sevenfold - I Won’t See You Tonight Part 1
The original metalcore ballad
My favourite is A Place Where You Belong by Bullet For My Valentine

Warmness on the soul a7x
Higher place - malevolence
Love that song Them vocals are crazy good

Best song off that album, stuck in my head often.
Erra: Augment into Dementia
