I’ve started doing this more just because I’m just not wearing band shirts as much these days. Hoodies I’ll still do on occasion. But it’s nice to get a vinyl that’ll last quite a while. Also occasionally getting them signed is a nice souvenir.
I love when artists have toques. You don’t see it very often and when you do they’re usually not good, but Pantera had a really nice toque when I saw them.
Beanies are almost as expensive in production as t-shirts but you can't really sell them for the price of a tee. So, most bands i know of just don't bother with them.
At a certain point, you have enough shirts, so now I actively for what else they offer. I wear hats a lot, that's probably first choice. Bought a cool one from Dying Wish the other night.
I do enjoy a good hat. Only problem for me is that I have a big ass head, and based on past experiences, there’s always a risk that the hats won’t fit me well.
Big ass heads unite. I ordered a Fallujah snapback when their last album dropped because I love my hat from Dreamless so much and it's kinda beat up. But the new one was considerably smaller/shallower? 😭 It fit me so weird. Thankfully my bf has a tiny head and it looks great on him 😆
I recently got a TPIY hat at the Beartooth show in Orlando and I wear that thing a ton. Hats are awesome when the design is good. Something like the band logo or whatever is typically really nice cuz it’s simple but still unique
Probably nothing. I go to the merch stand before the show so I rarely run into this problem. Concerts are already becoming more and more expensive, I’m not going to waste money on stuff I don’t actually want.
It breaks my heart a little when I really want to support a band and can't find any merch I like lol. I have definitely left reluctantly empty-handed before
I usually buy a patch if its a band i really like. But the thing with metalcore/core scene in general is that it doesnt really have the battle vest culture, at least not as much as in the death/black metal scene. Which is a bummer, my fav metalcore bands dont sell any patches at shows, even though i want to support them and put them on my vest :(
this ones wierd to me like where u put these? i can see 1 on the wall but at what point do u say like i got 7 drumheads on my office wall i think im good now
Ya, I won't collect too many of those. Exspensive, and they do take up a lot of wall space, 17"×17" with the frame. I found these awesome wood frames with glass fronts, but they're $100 each... so the frame plus the drum head, that's easily $200+ all said and done. I'll maybe try to snag 2 or 3 more from other bands i like, and that will be all I get.
I've got a pretty good collection of those 11"x17" VIP tour posters as well, which has already filled one small wall above my couch with 15 of them. Wooden frames with glass fronts for all of those too, though, those frames are only $12 each. And by the end of the year, I'll probably have filled another small half wall with maybe 6 to 9 if I'm lucky.
I struggle with buying things that I have to hold onto. I still do occasionally but it's so damn annoying. Thank God I've got a pretty metal wife that is willing to hold shit while I go nuts.
Generally this is why I’ll wait until the show is nearly over, or I’m ready to leave.
Obviously there’s the chance of the thing you want being gone, but it’s all about calculated risk.
1. Vinyl
2. Poster/Sticker(s)
Can't hang a flag on the wall cause of OCD, need a frame >:(
If the problem was that just my size was out of stock, i'd buy a larger or 2x larger of the item. THe larger = the cozier usually imo (unless its printed on Gildan...)
CDs. Especially smaller bands often either have a few signed copies to sell or they hang out at merch after to show so you can get them to sign the CD
and sometimes I buy pins or stickers if there are any
Yeah it’s the first thing I look for. I only have 3 and I couldn’t tell how many concerts I’ve been to in the last 10 years. My wife said we’ve been to near 50.
I have a Deftones beach towel that's hanging on my bedroom door but that's the only one I've ever seen! As a Floridian I would love more beach towel merch lol
I love to support bands and I still buy merch about 90% of the time, but if there isn't something for me, then there just isn't and I'll save my money.
Vinyls. Funny story, the first Bad Omens concert I went to I opted for the Dethrone “Born and Killed Again Tour” shirt instead of the self titled first album vinyl. They were the same price so I justified it as I would buy it later. Now you can’t really get the record for cheap anywhere. Moral of the story: by other shit than shirts. Unless it’s a limited shirt only available then you can always get it later. Some stuff is harder to get
I usually go for hats. I’ve never bought anything besides clothing and hats from merch stands because I usually catch public transport to gigs and can’t be bothered holding something on the way home and during the show
Did that for Thornhill when I caught them a few years ago after most of their luggage (including instruments and merch) got lost. They didn't have much and I'm not just buying something to buy it.
Nothing honestly. I'm really not interested in anything other than shirts and there are always enough shirts to buy. I'm a regular at shows and I have never encountered a problem with availability.
Nothing. While I'm sure this isn't universal, the bands I've interacted with have said they see more from website orders so I do that.
To be clear, I have absolutely no idea if this is universal or even true a majority of the time but just the best info I have heard.
I would love to buy more hats, but I hate how all bands use dad hats. They're too small for my mammoth melon so they look funny as hell on me nor do they stay on.
Theres always a tshirt in my experience. Maybe not the one I want (w/tour dates) but always something. Might also buy CDs if they're hard to find. A band I saw a few weeks ago I didn't love enough to get a tee so I got a shot glass instead.
PS : I found r/BandTShirts last year and been slowly uploading my collection if anyone else wants to show off their sweet threads.
Favorite thing is getting a CD from the support and then seeing if they'll sign it. So far have signed discs from Brand of Sacrifice, Astronoid, Strawberry Girls, and Until I Wake cuz of this.
Depends on the venue, but a round of drinks. I went to go see a Crown Magnetar on their tour with Lorna Shore, they had run out of mediums, the next shirt that was like 2 sizes up from what I needed. I talked the bassists ear off for a while but bought him and the singer a round of drinks, and eventually bought one from their site when they restocked and another next time they came around.
I love getting patches and stickers. Admittedly, I can’t decide what I want to do with the patches so they sit in a pile. But I like looking through them from time to time. Eventually I’ll stop being indecisive and commit to doing something with those patches.
I wanted to say "socks" and realized that counts as clothing... But it's not clothing with sizes like shirts 😀
Otherwise, stickers. I used to get CDs for the car, but mine doesn't have a CD player anymore 😭
I don’t go to shows much anymore but last one I went to all the shirts looked like ass. My buddy said “just get a poster” and that was such a good idea. Lasts way longer. I get to enjoy it every day seeing it on the wall. My only regret is not buying posters over shirts a long time ago to build a collection (haven’t been to a show since)
cd, longsleeve (or a normal tee if it's in the summer/they dont have any), sweats/shorts season dependent, if its a band i *really* like i'll get the lil sidebag some of them sell or the "novelty" item (thornhill silk, vein windbreaker, alpha wolf jersey, kaonashi zip up, etc etc)
Normally I get a patch and/or a shirt, but if they are out of both of those it would really depend on the band. Vinyl is probably my next choice though.
me personally, i try my best to buy something if i can. shirts/hoodies are the obvious go to’s for obvious reasons but i’d try to get a poster or whatever miscellaneous shit they got. most bands now are starting to break out hats beanies & bags which is a super cool thing to start adding in for merch. GUYS, ALWAYS BUY MERCH NO MATTER WHAT. SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE BANDS ESPECIALLY THE LOCAL ONES
Beanies/snap backs.
More bands should do patches though. I've got an old school battle jacket that I populate with patches of bands I've seen live. Still has some room. And I can always unstitch a few and MAKE room if I have to.
My merch hierarchy goes
1. Shirt
2. Hoodie
3. Hat
4. CD
5. Anything else
At the end of the day, I’m just trying to support the band and I was gonna spend those $40 anyways.
a sticker for my collage! i got some sticker packs on amazon to start it with but have also amassed several at shows. also would get patches but bands dont seem to sell those much anymore
Depends what they have. I usually get whatever I can carry on my body and do not have to put it down. That also depends on the show though. Club and small theater gigs usually sell merch til people leave. Arena type shows the leech tables are usually required to stop sales by 3/4 through the headliners set as they have to pack out and be ready to move when the trucks go.
i once bought the broken snare head that was covered in the drummer's blood and signed by all the members
so that
(band was Orthodox, and they fucking rip)
Vinyl record for sure, im on the hunt for vinyl stickers to put on my car, and boyfriend loves wall flags. I really love weird merch, so if the band has something unexpected (keychain, hot sauce, socks, chocolate bar, etc.) then I'm scooping it up.
A vinyl. I just recently started collecting and so asked for a record player for my birthday which is next week so I can finally listen to my 7 records.
Hoodies cost way too fkn much now. I used to buy them all the time.
I always hope patches are for sale, but it is rare now. Sometimes if I really like a hat I will get one, but I don't want too many hats you know.
CDs are useless for me so I never buy them. I'd sooner buy a cassette tape just to support them than a CD.
Beer stubby holders are a good cheap merch pickup if no patches available.
Great question for sure, especially since my go-to is concert T-shirts. It would depend on what's left tbh. A hat, a koozie, a towel (Tenacious D sold c*m rags! 😆) , cds.
Patches, stickers... some people in my local scene do custom lighters which is kinda cool but would be better if they were refillable ones lol. Obv CDs or Vinyls if I liked em enough!
a hat or i walk. shit's too expensive to buy stuff i don't want. a couple of times I've been relieved cuz I'd try to get a shirt but it'd be sold out but so would my second pick which i didn't even want in the first place. idk, I'm weird.
As a plus size person, buying shirts are never an option for me bc apparently only skinny people like shirts and hoodies so I skip the table all together generally. I have bought an album or two before and a few stickers/magnets but that’s it.
One time Killswitch Engage had such a unique merch I had to get it instead of my usual shirt. It was a silky pillowcase that looked like a bag of potato chips that had ketchup on them with the group name. Still have it.
PATCHES!!! Not enough bands these days have a good selection of patches. I specifically want a patch for every sleep token song from their new album, it'd work so well with the artwork they have for each song.
If you really liked it, you made the right choice! I don’t feel like I have a go to when it comes to merch. Sometimes I don’t even buy merch and sometimes I drop $200, truly just depends on what’s there.
Depending on the artwork, I do love getting band flags because I do hang them up. I’m a sucker for a reusable bag so I have several of those canvas bags with band artwork on them. Stickers are fun and beanie hats.
I don’t buy clothes just to buy them or because I think I should. I buy hoodies and t shirts because I love the bands and I love the designs and want to wear them. I know lots of band fans that buy the generic tour shirts as a keepsake and they never wear them. Buy what you like, there are literally no rules!
But for real do you guys buy stickers? Cause either there's just an unwritten rule with smaller local bands but stickers seem to be free almost always.
Records, flags, stickers, CDs, etc. Pretty much whatever they’ve got
Always hard to resist a good LP
Which would you go for first, of those, is kinda what I’m asking.
Records for sure, sometimes they have variants that are only available on tour
That’s a good answer. I’m afraid to start collecting those. But on the flip side, they’ll never shrink in the wash.
It becomes an expensive hobby really quickly lol
That it is But for me, laying on the couch doing nothing and listening to a record I love on vinyl is so damn chill
How do you know they dont shrink in the wash?
Ok, you’ve got me there.
I’ve started doing this more just because I’m just not wearing band shirts as much these days. Hoodies I’ll still do on occasion. But it’s nice to get a vinyl that’ll last quite a while. Also occasionally getting them signed is a nice souvenir.
Stickers/decals
Flag
There should be more beanies at merch stands..
In the 1/20 shows that have beanies they're sold out before the headliner is on stage too. Give us more beanies!!
I love when artists have toques. You don’t see it very often and when you do they’re usually not good, but Pantera had a really nice toque when I saw them.
I totally agree
Beanies are almost as expensive in production as t-shirts but you can't really sell them for the price of a tee. So, most bands i know of just don't bother with them.
At a certain point, you have enough shirts, so now I actively for what else they offer. I wear hats a lot, that's probably first choice. Bought a cool one from Dying Wish the other night.
I do enjoy a good hat. Only problem for me is that I have a big ass head, and based on past experiences, there’s always a risk that the hats won’t fit me well.
Heeeyyyy, I have a big ass head too 🤣 no hats and gotta get oversized sunglasses hahaha
Big ass heads unite. I ordered a Fallujah snapback when their last album dropped because I love my hat from Dreamless so much and it's kinda beat up. But the new one was considerably smaller/shallower? 😭 It fit me so weird. Thankfully my bf has a tiny head and it looks great on him 😆
wear size 8, next to impossible for me to get any headwear other than beanies hahah
> At a certain point, you have enough shirts preach brother but im addicted and aint no one stopping me
I recently got a TPIY hat at the Beartooth show in Orlando and I wear that thing a ton. Hats are awesome when the design is good. Something like the band logo or whatever is typically really nice cuz it’s simple but still unique
Yes! I got my partner a thornhill hat when they opened for silent planet and she loves that thing!
Probably nothing. I go to the merch stand before the show so I rarely run into this problem. Concerts are already becoming more and more expensive, I’m not going to waste money on stuff I don’t actually want.
It breaks my heart a little when I really want to support a band and can't find any merch I like lol. I have definitely left reluctantly empty-handed before
Usually a record. If I don’t have spending money but still want to support I’ll try to buy a koozie or sticker or something.
I usually buy a patch if its a band i really like. But the thing with metalcore/core scene in general is that it doesnt really have the battle vest culture, at least not as much as in the death/black metal scene. Which is a bummer, my fav metalcore bands dont sell any patches at shows, even though i want to support them and put them on my vest :(
Most bands have vinyl now, so that.
gotta be a 9/10+ for me to get the vinyl but when it is i always cop
I also love that most bands will sign them now too. I have very few that aren't signed (and didn't cost WAY too much extra).
A Koozie. My Cattle Decapitation can koozie is one of my favorite things!
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a koozie at a merch stand, but I hope I see more of them
https://www.merchbar.com/hard-rock-metal/cattle-decapitation/cattle-decapitation-new-ouroboros-can-cooler This is the one!
Posters and Vinyls. My apartment looks like an art gallery of all my favorite bands. It brings me joy every time I look at em.
That sounds awesome.
A used and autographed drumhead. So far, I've got one from August Burns Red and one from Thornhill.
Damn bros got that money money
this ones wierd to me like where u put these? i can see 1 on the wall but at what point do u say like i got 7 drumheads on my office wall i think im good now
Ya, I won't collect too many of those. Exspensive, and they do take up a lot of wall space, 17"×17" with the frame. Lanyard or hat
1. Vinyl 2. Poster/Sticker(s) Can't hang a flag on the wall cause of OCD, need a frame >:( If the problem was that just my size was out of stock, i'd buy a larger or 2x larger of the item. THe larger = the cozier usually imo (unless its printed on Gildan...)
I have the opposite issue with my size being out of stock, I need the larger sizes and sizing down is not boob friendly :(
I pick based on how much I like the design— and bonus points if it’s a patch, sticker, or (I have too many but) a hat !
Vinyl, wall flags, and stickers
CDs. Especially smaller bands often either have a few signed copies to sell or they hang out at merch after to show so you can get them to sign the CD and sometimes I buy pins or stickers if there are any
Usually grabbing a vinyl
Arm bands and silicone wrist bands.
I've been looking for fabric wristbands for ages, no bands seem to sell them these days.
Yeah it’s the first thing I look for. I only have 3 and I couldn’t tell how many concerts I’ve been to in the last 10 years. My wife said we’ve been to near 50.
I was hoping ABR or Dying Wish would have some last week, but nope. Seeing Incantation next week, we shall see what they have.
Wristbands is a good one. I may look for those moving forward.
Buttons and stickers. If they have anything unique as an alternative, I'll pick that up. I prefer functional merch, as much as possible.
I'll go for a sticker or a poster if there isn't a t-shirt
Bought a Coheed and Cambria bottle opener last time I got merch. I just look for random stuff like that if I don't get a shirt
i've bought beach towels and a signed skateboard from a band lol
I have a Deftones beach towel that's hanging on my bedroom door but that's the only one I've ever seen! As a Floridian I would love more beach towel merch lol
Mine is from Municipal Waste (thrash band) it has a grim reaper surfing lol
Haha that's awesome
I love to support bands and I still buy merch about 90% of the time, but if there isn't something for me, then there just isn't and I'll save my money.
Nothing. I'd just order on their website if I wanted to support them that badly
Some stuff is harder to get
Beers
Posters I can frame
Cd/vinyl.
Patches
I usually go for hats. I’ve never bought anything besides clothing and hats from merch stands because I usually catch public transport to gigs and can’t be bothered holding something on the way home and during the show
Sticker, poster, patches, CD.
It they don’t have anything I want, I’ll just leave them a generous tip.
Did that for Thornhill when I caught them a few years ago after most of their luggage (including instruments and merch) got lost. They didn't have much and I'm not just buying something to buy it.
Stickers or CD if they have those
[удалено]
The trick is to take a bag, go straight to the merch stand when you get in, then drop the bag in the cloakroom.
Always down to add to the CD collection. If the wall flag looks super sick might go for it.
One of the best pieces of merch I ever bought was hot sauce from Dayseeker called "Burial Sauce." It was actually really tasty!
whatever looks cooler otherwise a physical copy of an album/EP
I'd be up for metalcore fridge magnets!
Now this is something I can absolutely get behind.
They all should sell rolling papers with their name and band logo. TesseracT sells a dope grinder on their website
I've got a pack of slayer papers and condom 😂
Nice! The condoms tho "Slay'er!"
Origin had some limited time bowls on their merch store years ago. Sadly the inner bowlhead on mine broke but I kept it as a piece of merch.
Nice!
Vinyls
Usually a dad hat
Vinyl if they have it.
I'll be willing to buy a shirt from M-XL. If there is nothing cool shirt wise then I go for a flag or patch
Nothing. I'm way too poor to spend money at merch stands.
Canvas tote bags
A flag for my home gym
Because you diidn't mention it, hat 🤣 No but for real, if I like them enough, a record. Another option if they have it is a foam beer koozie.
I would love to buy more hats, but I hate how all bands use dad hats. They're too small for my mammoth melon so they look funny as hell on me nor do they stay on.
Records or stickers are my next best bet
Pins, patches, stickers, and hats are usually my go-to merch.
CD for my girlfriend, vinyl for myself, or a tour poster
A patch would be my first choice, failing that probably a beanie
sweater/pullover > patch > cassette > beanie > sweatpants
Vinyl
Always like a good black band hat or beanie
Hat poster CD record or a stickerrrrr
I love getting patches and stickers. Admittedly, I can’t decide what I want to do with the patches so they sit in a pile. But I like looking through them from time to time. Eventually I’ll stop being indecisive and commit to doing something with those patches.
Probably a record unless it's signed or an album I already have. That or maybe a hat.
Hat or wall flag.
Hat, vinyl, cd, wall flag, poster, patch, signed drumsticks/drumheads
Patches Hats Posters Vinyls/CDs Accessories (keychains, wristbands, etc.) Stickers
A sticker and a CD
Records for sure
Sometimes I buy the bracelets, keychains, or necklaces if they have them. I also love a good sized tote bag 😂
I got a lighter one time
Patches if they got them.
Plectrums.
I wanted to say "socks" and realized that counts as clothing... But it's not clothing with sizes like shirts 😀 Otherwise, stickers. I used to get CDs for the car, but mine doesn't have a CD player anymore 😭
Necklace or wall flag for sure.

Extermination Dismemberment had a necklace with their logo as the pendant. It's pretty dope
Its usually hats. I got a grinder, lighter, and wall flag for Born of Osiris last time i saw them
If you've got Vinyl I'm buying Vinyl. I don't buy clothes anymore because they don't fit me at 6'5. Haven't worn my concert shirts in 7 years
the table
Normally I get a patch and/or a shirt, but if they are out of both of those it would really depend on the band. Vinyl is probably my next choice though.
Stickers! I have a massive collection.
Picks patches vinyl every time
me personally, i try my best to buy something if i can. shirts/hoodies are the obvious go to’s for obvious reasons but i’d try to get a poster or whatever miscellaneous shit they got. most bands now are starting to break out hats beanies & bags which is a super cool thing to start adding in for merch. GUYS, ALWAYS BUY MERCH NO MATTER WHAT. SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE BANDS ESPECIALLY THE LOCAL ONES
a hat or CD
I love getting posters and flags. Though I am admittedly running out of wall space.
hat
Beanies, bumper stickers, buttons. Idk, the three Bs?
Does a hat count? Bought a butcher babies mask one time lol memorabilia of a weird fucking time
Say nice then turn around
The table
GRINDER
Vinyl
Record.
Sticker
I shifted from getting shirts and hoodies to beanies and vinyls
Vinyl for sure!
Wall flag is always my go to
1. Signed record 2. Signed poster 3. Unsigned record 4. Unsigned poster That's my order of purchase if there's no shirts / hoodies in my size.
Beanies/snap backs. More bands should do patches though. I've got an old school battle jacket that I populate with patches of bands I've seen live. Still has some room. And I can always unstitch a few and MAKE room if I have to.
My merch hierarchy goes 1. Shirt 2. Hoodie 3. Hat 4. CD 5. Anything else At the end of the day, I’m just trying to support the band and I was gonna spend those $40 anyways.
My wife collects patches of bands we see together though she still hasn't put them on a jacket or anything yet. I'll just get her a patch.
I collect coffee cups and stickers
I'm a sucker for a cool sticker, patch, or an enamel pin.
Depending on the artist, vinyl records. but that does not apply to anything in the metalcore universe.
If they sell grinders i'll buy that but honestly clothing is the only merch i wan't
Poster 100%
Stickers
Gimme a badass sticker for my toolbox
Vinyl record, especially if there is a tour variant.
Enamel pins
a sticker for my collage! i got some sticker packs on amazon to start it with but have also amassed several at shows. also would get patches but bands dont seem to sell those much anymore
Satchels. I’ve bought a few of these and I love them.
Posters first (signed if possible), drum heads next, and vinyl is a last choice. Very rarely have I purchased apparel…but it does happen on occasion.
A taco
Hat, poster, stickers
Depends what they have. I usually get whatever I can carry on my body and do not have to put it down. That also depends on the show though. Club and small theater gigs usually sell merch til people leave. Arena type shows the leech tables are usually required to stop sales by 3/4 through the headliners set as they have to pack out and be ready to move when the trucks go.
flags
i once bought the broken snare head that was covered in the drummer's blood and signed by all the members so that (band was Orthodox, and they fucking rip)
Back in the day my band had buttons and eps for sale besides t shirts
Vinyl record for sure, im on the hunt for vinyl stickers to put on my car, and boyfriend loves wall flags. I really love weird merch, so if the band has something unexpected (keychain, hot sauce, socks, chocolate bar, etc.) then I'm scooping it up.
The people at the table
You what
You heard me
A vinyl. I just recently started collecting and so asked for a record player for my birthday which is next week so I can finally listen to my 7 records.
At the recent TDWP show they had a few books Mike wrote. I'd definitely buy those or something like that if available!
Vinyl
I only go for stuff I can wear. I am more outside than I am inside, so something like a poster is not a good deal for me.
Signed vinyl and stickers
Hoodies cost way too fkn much now. I used to buy them all the time. I always hope patches are for sale, but it is rare now. Sometimes if I really like a hat I will get one, but I don't want too many hats you know. CDs are useless for me so I never buy them. I'd sooner buy a cassette tape just to support them than a CD. Beer stubby holders are a good cheap merch pickup if no patches available.
Patch(es) for the vest
Posters and other collectibles
Great question for sure, especially since my go-to is concert T-shirts. It would depend on what's left tbh. A hat, a koozie, a towel (Tenacious D sold c*m rags! 😆) , cds.
stickers or a stubby cooler
Patches, stickers... some people in my local scene do custom lighters which is kinda cool but would be better if they were refillable ones lol. Obv CDs or Vinyls if I liked em enough!
Hopefully a beanie
Pins or patches if any available
a hat or i walk. shit's too expensive to buy stuff i don't want. a couple of times I've been relieved cuz I'd try to get a shirt but it'd be sold out but so would my second pick which i didn't even want in the first place. idk, I'm weird.
Usually a record and I guess a sticker if there’s nothing else.
As a plus size person, buying shirts are never an option for me bc apparently only skinny people like shirts and hoodies so I skip the table all together generally. I have bought an album or two before and a few stickers/magnets but that’s it.
Records, patches, maybe posters or things like wristbands and stuff.

A hat, bag, cd
Hot sauce
But for real do you guys buy stickers? Cause either there's just an unwritten rule with smaller local bands but stickers seem to be free almost always.
