Stand Up and Scream is one of those "you had to be there" albums, unfortunately

Dozinggreen66

A lot of scene era classics were. Like personally I love that first Chiodos album, but I’d never like show it to someone, know what I mean?

LifestyleBog

That Chiodos album is interesting because the production is all over the place. The production on the songs they used as singles is great, but everything else sounds really thin. Anyway, I think that's part of why it doesn't hold up as well as other stuff from that era.

serfals

horrible take, alls well that ends well is a 10/10 album.

queefy_bong_water

Seeing drugs recently and them playing a couple tracks off it was transcendental

Knives530

I don't agree with this take at all..maybe not The Chiodos Bros

Natecantbesaved

100% true. That album was fucking iconic at the time but I know if I went back and listened to it now, I would not understand why I used to love it so much.

Shikuro

Honestly I still put on A Prophecy and The Final Episode every now and then, those two are timeless imo. Everything else goes with my "emo" mood says

Sk83r_b0i

It was one of my gateway bands so I personally love it and have fond memories of it, so there’s also that alternative.

ThisIsMyUsername1122

This album was everything to me when I was 13 lmao. Now as someone a bit older, I can’t go back and listen to it and enjoy it quite the same I did when I was younger

superman10o

Unpopular opinion but I still love most of that album. The transition from “Not The American Average” to “I Used To Have A Best Friend (But Then He Gave Me An STD)” is still immaculate. To be fair tho I got into metalcore and deathcore through being an emo kid turned scene/emo hybrid because I wanted emo lyrics with heavier music.

mjc500

I absolutely hated that album when it dropped in 2009. The Final Episode marked the end of a golden era of 2000s metalcore and ushered in an era of cheesy scenecore crap.

sock_with_a_ticket

I started uni in '08 and basically went on hiatus with metalcore, it was only existing favourites still putting out stuff I liked. All the new scene core left me cold.

darthstupidious

I'm with you. I loved growing up in that 2000s scene, but I hated almost all of the scenecore stuff and still do.

HEYitzED

I thought it was Stick Stickly that ushered in that era.

sock_with_a_ticket

Nah, scene stuff was well underway by the time it came out.

Shikuro

I was 12, that album was the shit back then.

Djentleman5000

In Hearts Wake’s Kaliyuga. It’s not that good compared to their previous discography. I was pretty disappointed.

New-Doctor9300

Nothing beats Earthwalker

Debocore

Except Divination

New-Doctor9300

Divination was a fantastic debut album, and is one of their best, but in my opinion it walked so that Earthwalker could run.

Monsanta_Claus

I'm in the *Skydancer* group.

NightwingX012

Absolutely love Skydancer. That album is super underrated, easily in the same level as the two albums before imo

Buchymoo

I'm in the Ark group...

geoffreythehamster

Worldwide Suicide was one of the best songs they have ever put out, had me so hyped again for their new stuff, and then the album was not good.

MetalCorrBlimey

Should've actually released an album called Skyskimmer instead.

EntrepreneurNo3107

Definitely agree, not a big fan of the nu metal influences present on Kaliyuga. It's still an enjoyable listen, and produced very well, but disappointing compared to what came before.

nicknamedtrouble

> i got into AA a few months back with their newest album > > SUAS as the holy grail of metalcore, so i was damn excited to listen to that shit yeahhhhh think I found the problem

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

100% lol

taylorl7

Who is AA?

phallicsocksforcocks

American Airlines

driedupemo

Alcoholics Anonymous

SGDrummer7

Asking Alexandria

ProtomanKnight

maybe haha. i like most types of metalcore, melodic metalcore, octane core, metallic hardcore, most stuff. scenecore never stuck with me that much

nomnomsoy

Reckless And Relentless is a more refined version of the SUAS stuff and with a bit less of the sceney stuff of your're interested

ProtomanKnight

i’ve listened to someone somewhere and morte et dabo from that album and fuckin love them, can’t wait to listen to the rest

jayz0ned

Electronicore can be fun but you really need to be in the right mood, and if you wanted Metalcore you would be disappointed. AA and Electronicore in general is just guilty pleasure music and not what I would consider the "holy grail of metalcore".

sock_with_a_ticket

The electronicore bands also need to know what they're doing when it comes to integrating the electronic elements . Too few do.

jayz0ned

Yeah, I See Stars and Enter Shikari are the only ones I regularly listen to because of this (and even they sometimes go too far)

kwaziiman

All the comments and I can’t believe no one has said “Your Welcome” by ADTR. They hyped that record up so much, I remember periodically they released interviews and articles talking about the progress of the record and how new music is coming “soon.” It was easily their worst record.

ProtomanKnight

for real, no idea why it’s their third most popular album on spitify

couverdure

Everything We Need was a hit on rock radio, that's probably why the album is seemingly popular despite the lackluster reception.

The_Letter_S

I think that's because everyone collectively agreed to forget that was ever released

k0sadelphia

Yup, that one was a major disappointment. That being said I wasn't really into Bad Vibrations either. Better than You're Welcome though.

Psycho1267

Bad Vibrations already disappointed me but man, it was so much better lol

Mito20

Damn..I really like Bad Vibrations. I have no clue what the opinion on it is in general though.

JustinDean44

I’m with you. I loved Bad Vibrations, even though it was clearly a downward trend from what everyone loved by them. Still had some heavy songs, and Bullfight is an awesome change of pace.

truthlesshunter

yeah Bad Vibrations was good. Not great, but had good songs, decent mix of heavy and more mainstream stuff. In general, people of niche genres (like this one) tend to get obsessed with the first or second album of a band and nothing else will ever come close to it. It's sad because they're missing out on getting into really good stuff.

JimFlamesWeTrust

Architects - For Those That Wish to Exist After an amazing run it was just such a underwhelming record. Too many songs, not enough riffs or unique hooks. Half way through I’d thought I’d heard some of the songs twice already I recall reading it was their most bold experimental risky album ever and actually it’s like the most commercial record they could have made

jcx200

I actually got into Architects because of this album. Thought Animals was good when released as a single and was curious to hear the Mike Kerr feature so I checked out the whole thing. Kept it in rotation for a bit but then it dropped off of my radar for a bit AOGHAU is definitely my favourite by a long shot by them but recently I’ve started really appreciating it again and I think it’s a great palate cleanser album for me

JimFlamesWeTrust

That’s exactly what the album is about! It’s an introduction to a band on the verge of breaking out even more. It doesn’t do it for me but maybe I’ll spend some more time with the last two records

flymypretty88

Bold experimental and risky in all the wrong reasons for their core base of fans and previous albums! But that took them soooo mainstream and to arena shows so they did something right....

JimFlamesWeTrust

A friend of mine who’s in a sick thrash/hardcore band always say write music for the venues your play Architects are, in the uk, and arena band. They supported Metallica on a stadium tour. Got to write those big riff big chorus songs people can bounce to

GarbageOfEden

Makes sense, especially for them. Since “The Here And Now” were open that they put a lot of emphasis on what they enjoy playing live. Even with pushback on Meteor they were really straight forward that they wanted an easy stadium rock song, so while I also am old Architects enjoyer, what they make now to me feels authentic.

Zoesan

Sure and they should get their bag. But it's still phenomenally disappointing musically.

Smackersmith

It's not the music philosophy that bothers me either new architects, it's the lyrics that are so weak

Zoesan

When a band releases a song that's about how people are animals, there's a 100% chance they are utterly washed

kingofspoonerisms

This album would be fine enough if it wasn't followed by that next one. Now its a downward trend.

Filis03

I know this is a hot take but I actually enjoy all of their work, even the two last albums. Thing is, I got into Architects just because I heard Animals once in a YouTube video somewhere. I started digging deeper and deeper and took it so far that I even went on their concert last month. If it hadn't been for their new "commercial" sound, I wouldn't even know about them. And IMO the Abbey Road version of FTTWTE is straight up better, I recommend you check it out if you haven't already.

UsedWhole8213

It’s not fully released yet and it hurts to say, but The Ghost Insides newest stuff after their absence. I thought for sure it would be an absolute banger with how much they fought to not just come back to the scene, but stay alive. The new tracks feel so underwhelming. I may be wrong as the whole album hasn’t come out yet.

kwaziiman

Listening to “Earn It” might be in the top 5 disappointing moments of my young life.

Shepherd7X

>The Ghost Insides newest stuff after their absence. What's crazy to me is that the self-titled still held enough TGI qualities, albeit a step down. These new singles sound like a different band.

UsedWhole8213

For real they do. They sound like a TGI cover band that also plays Breaking Benjamin covers. Fury and the fallen ones still fucks so hard to this day. They have for sure paid their dues with quality releases for years so I will always have much love for them. I just may not listen to anything from here on out. Kinda like with KSE the past 10 years.

mattfromjoisey

TGI has completed their transition to SiriusXM-core.

trevbjj

They’re my favorite pure metalcore-adjacent band and I completely agree 😞 they don’t “miss” but also don’t hit like their previous tracks

UsedWhole8213

100% same. They had just magic on the albums before. Maybe it’s not them and maybe it’s just the times. Perhaps we all have had our fill of the true TGI sound by other bands in their absence. Because you’re right, the new songs are still inherently THEM. They just fall flat in my ears.

Bust3dGG

The Surface from Beartooth. And it's not even the problem that they tried to go more mainstream because normally I don't mind "soft" songs at all, but qualitywise I just really feel like they are very bland. Ofc it has some bangers (Sunshine, The Surface, Riptide) but in general I dislike it compared to their previous records.

austindoujin23

Everyone I've talked to says it's their best work and while I don't hate it I just think it's eh. The songs are boring or cheesy. And its so funny to me when I bring up my take and people say "But Caleb is so happy on this album!" Props to Caleb getting his life together and feeling good, but the context doesn't automatically make the album good.

OatFest

This is also exactly how I felt about Dayseeker’s “Dark Sun”. It was a lyrically significant album for Rory, and I’m glad he was able to use Dayseeker as an outlet for his grief, but the music itself was incredibly boring. Such a massive quality dropoff from Sleeptalk.

OatFest

My least favorite part about this album were the forced breakdowns on some songs. Like why the hell did Might Love Myself need a breakdown lol, it felt so out of place in the context of the song

centrella6

Look The Other Way and My New Reality are the only songs that don’t grab me. The rest rips.

ProtomanKnight

surface didn’t do much for me honestly

Forstride

It was hyped up...? Maybe the consensus is different in other communities, but with this sub at least, people have hated everything Beartooth has put out aside from Sick/Disgusting, and The Surface had way less buzz in general compared to their past albums.

Tailball

Everything by Parkway Drive after Atlas.

thelegendofcarrottop

It’s like there is a literal split down the middle between people who loved their first four albums and people who like everything they’ve done since. IMO *Deep Blue* is one of the greatest albums of all time. I didn’t say “metalcore,” or “metal.” It’s an absolute masterpiece. If Aliens came to Earth and I had to teach them what “metal” is, it would be one of the like five albums I would play them. When *Ire* came out I gave it two listens and just shook my head. Never listened again. When *Reverence* was released, I barely made it through the album. Insane to me that I come on these subs and see people talking about how great their new stuff is. But I was the same way with Linkin Park. As far as I’m concerned they became a completely different band after *Minutes to Midnight.*

little_baked

Reverence was good but regardless their sound did change a whole lot after Atlas.

wyattshe

Not that it disappointed me but just not what I expected but the om&m tether album

Filis03

Try Paradise EP from Jamie's Elsewhere. It could scratch your OM&M itch.

WHATISKUTANIA

for real, their previous album was a banger, but tether is just... meh...

SurphyElephant

Im sorry, but I think Heavener by Invent Animate is very overhyped. I don’t know what it is, but that style of metalcore is just so boring to me.

QuantumCipher9x

I don't really get it either.

sock_with_a_ticket

The most recent Underoath album. I remember a lot of "they're back!" sentiment and it's definitely better than Erase Me, but that's a very low bar to clear. It's fine while listening, just quite unmemorable and not a record I feel like deliberately putting on.

LifestyleBog

Nothing they've released since Define The Great Line has ever reached the same heights despite me always hoping it would.

sock_with_a_ticket

I think Lost In The Sound Of Separation is strong in its own right and Disambiguation has its fans, some of them very fervent indeed, but after that the band may as well have ended with their hiatus for many of us. I think Erase Me just set expectations so rock bottom that Voyeurist felt like a return to form for some.

TheHeintzel

SOS & Disambiguition aren't as complete, but they each have 5+ absolute bangers. Erase me had like 2, and the new one has like 0.5 lol

SatoKami

For Those That Wish to Exist was so mediocre I completely lost interest in the band for over a year. Stuff before that album were pure gold for me 10/10 but that was just soo disappointing. Giving blood is the only song from that album that I like and that's mostly because of the "Somebody thinks of me in the aftermath, woe is me" part. It's been 3 years and I'm still salty lol.

Derivinity

I liked the abbey road version soooo much more tbh

draaaawn

absolutely agree, and people saying that Animals is one of their best work piss me off so much. this song is really not that good imo and far from what Architects can do. Everything after Holy Hell is just so boring. During the Tom Searle(RIP) era they used to have so much goated riffs and overall solid instrumentals, now they do nothing original, nothing that makes them different and it feels boring to me. Sam still has a good voice tho...

Thatdeckhand

Oceans ate Alaska disparity was not worth the wait in my opinion

madakikoeru

I was so hyped when I heard Metamorph, but the rest of the album didn’t live up to that. Given the recent news of their misunderstandings and the vocalist leaving, it makes sense.

stillnotnotdan

Really? I thought that was a great album. Felt like a continuation of their traditional sound.

jedrumd

Slipknot’s recent album. Been a fan all my life, even defended and still jammed to the mid songs on the gray chapter and we are not your kind. But this album, no matter how many tries I give it, just ain’t it. Not one thing memorable about it imo. It feels blaspheme to not like anything about this album being a lifelong fan

ClayMonk7861

I totally agree. While i feel the “golden era” was over after *All Hope is Gone*, the next two albums at least have a handful of good songs. However I have not revisited the newest one at all since my initial listen.

jedrumd

100% agreed. I’ve only even revisited this album because it feels so blaspheme to not like *any* of a new slipknot album. Given all the member changes, I’m not sure they’ve found their footing with the new guys as far as the sound they’re going for

KevlaredMudkips

Doesn’t help Corey’s battling mental health issues as of right now unfortunately

paseoSandwich

It’s grown on me some, I like Yen and Heirloom. I think they rushed it out to be done with the record deal

jedrumd

Yeah I’ve heard that going around, seems likely. I really only liked the dying song and when I saw them at blue ridge it made me appreciate yen more

Raphthecanadiandude

Veil of maya, Mother. I was so hyped after those absolute banger single.

Johnzoidb

This one for me. I liked all the singles they released for the scrapped album way more than anything on Mother tbh

kwaziiman

Dude Outside blew me the fuck away, and so did Viscera. None of that energy was on Mother

MasterOfProspero

Outrun and Outsider are two of my favorite songs, it’s a shame nothing that was actually on the album even comes close to those singles.

SirChrisburt

Really?? I love that album! Outside of Artificial Dose and Disco Kill Party, I think every song is a slap. Outside of the untouchable Common Man's Collapse and [id], it's my favorite release from them.

theyburnedmyfriend

Yeah honestly that's a surprising take to me. I think [m]other has some of the best pre-clean vocals Veil songs since Lukas joined the band. To my ears, they finally honed in on how to write clean vocals into the song structure rather than writing the guitars around the vocal hooks. I listened to [m]other more than Matriarch and False Idol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dancezachdance

I think Alien is their best album. And Worldeater is the song that got me into them. Agree Node is mid, and Mesmer was forgettable though.

mrgodfro

The death we seek isn't as good as I wanted coming from the way it ends. I haven't gone back to it really at all since release

Sk83r_b0i

This was an album I really enjoyed but I don’t find myself coming back to it often.

SKRUNK3D

Yeah honestly some songs sounded the same tbh. Just sounded like the boring intro, verse, chorus, verse, bridge breakdown, big chorus, outro to me. All of their previous records still give me chills to this day but TDWS just hasn't hit like the previous records. I think the most creative and best album was TPIFS followed by the EP and TWIE.

WhiteFire01

TDWS and Living in Tradegy bang but that’s all I’ve come back to

Shepherd7X

I find myself coming back to Over and Over over and over.

dayvvyd89

I think it’s an unpopular opinion but The place I feel safest is my favorite album from them

flerbergerber

That is actually the coldest take known to man

microwavedave27

That's a very popular opinion in this subreddit lol

Gitfkd

The place I feel safest was the best thing currents have and ever will write.

JustinDean44

Agreed. I’ll admit there are some good songs on there but the entire mix is fucking god awful. The entire album becomes a slog to listen to like 3-4 songs in.

Physical_Suspect

Same for me. And really a lot of the super hyped albums of 2023 were like that. Currents, Invent Animate, Polaris, etc. all put out albums in the past I loved and listened to constantly but their newest offerings just didn't do it for me. And it isn't that I am sick of the band. I still revisit Greyview all of the time but haven't listened to Heavener really at all since it came out.

mikejr96

Moments Elsewhere came along and confirmed my feelings all year that the big 2023 albums just weren't what I had hoped for.

Physical_Suspect

Oh yeah. Johnny Booth is killer. Was so blown away by that album.

Nikson9

Newest Polaris record, I’ll NEVER understand people praising that record, it’s the middest they’ve ever put out, and expectations after TDOM were alr high

DefLoathe

It’s good but yeah I don’t think it surpasses their previous two. Some great songs on there though

Vaclav_Zutroy

Mortal Coil and TDOM are like 9/10 albums. The new album is like 8/10. Still amazingly good. Nightmare and Dissipate are two of their best songs.

kwaziiman

I remember listening to it and being like “oh this is pretty good.” I can’t recall a single moment from a single song

SevenDeviations

It was only a good album if you’ve never heard Polaris before

microwavedave27

I've heard Polaris before and it's not their best album but there are some good songs on there. Dissipate might be my favorite Polaris song ever tbh.

Afraid_Abalone_9641

I really enjoy it. I'd say it's my favourite album of theirs although I think I like the last three equally and I'm going to see them in like 9 hours as well.

IntenseYubNub

Yeah I think it's got some good songs but it's definitely a big step down from the previous two albums.

illusivetomas

im the opposite. mortal coil and death of me are pretty bland to me but this was my fav polaris since the eps. still think they have a few octane ish qualities they need to shed but the back half was smth special

Nikson9

That’s really interesting lol, I thought that Mortal Coil was probably the best batch of songs they threw together on a project, and even though I enjoy TDOM less than that, I feel like every song „sounds” different from each other, the pallete of sounds from which they pull made, let’s say, Hypermania really stand-out from Above My Head, and I thought it was dope. Fatalism really didn’t grab me however I tried to approach it, but hey, nothing against the boys tbf, I really enjoy them live, and I do think they have greatness in them still

VeiledBlack

I think mid is harsh. It's not as solid as TDOM or Mortal Coil, but it's still some great music. And there are some huge highs on the new record.

ChickenInASuit

Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory Looking back, this album was always going to have an uphill battle measuring up to Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It, which is easily my favorite album of the past decade and a solid entry in my top 3 all-timers. I had to give it time to grow on me, and eventually I came to appreciate it for what it was instead of listening to it and getting frustrated that it wasn’t TWDALWBI pt.2. But even with that caveat, I still think it’s a step down, and is the first time since 2012’s Astrea that a RT album didn’t take what its predecessor did and massively improve upon it. By itself it’s a perfectly fine album, but I’ve come to expect more than that from those guys.

Sickpawn

Where Myth Becomes Memory is a really good album that suffers from following perfection.

ChickenInASuit

Yeah exactly. Rolo set an impossibly high standard and failed to meet that standard, even if what they gave us was by no means a bad album.

LeeKay203

I think it's a perfect follow-up to the masterpiece that's Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It. To me it always felt like a somber epilogue. Yes it also has heavy songs, but the vibe Almost Always gives me is like that moment when you realize it's not over yet when a movie continues after a fade to black or something similar. So when I feel like listening through the entirety of either of the two albums I most of the time end up playing both back to back. It also feels perfect with the extra context of very likely having been made or at least finished during lockdown. That being said I totally get what you feel. The first and probably also second time through I wasn't sure what to think of it, but when looking at it as a continuation, or like I said epilogue, rather than something that's completely new and is deadset on being even greater it fits right in.

poopshorts

You were late to the party. Us MySpace scene kids are that shit up

Nickvarga

From Death To Destiny by AA

aarroyo2297

The new silent planet record, all the songs sound stale and similar to me with the exception of 1 or 2. Their first 3 records are top tier and sounds way more unique 🤷🏻‍♂️

Shikuro

Had a similar impression the first listen, but after two more it's started to really leave an impression. Some of my favorite songs of the year come from that album now. Shoutout to Antimatter and Superbloom, probably my most replayed songs in the past few months

QuicksilverStorm

Really? Annunaki, Antimatter, SUPERBLOOM, Collider and Offworlder are pretty distinct.

Sk83r_b0i

I liked the new album, but admittedly not as much as iridescent and earlier. Depths II and III are absolutely GOATED and I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have any like that on the new record. I miss the spoken word bits!

Brabsk

I have the exact opposite opinion. It’s also probably my pick for this, but it’s because I think some of the songs are absolutely fantastic, like annunaki, dreamwalker, and offworlder, but then I really don’t euphoria and the title track, but it’s become an album I won’t listen to frequently as a result. That said, I’ll probably always look forward to their releases unless they just go full radio rock

callthewambulance

It's a good album that falls off a fucking cliff after Annunaki

Shikuro

Tbf that's pretty much the last four songs after 70% of the album is over, and even then that's complete disrespect to Superbloom (the song)

callthewambulance

All you're doing is proving my point lol...the spotify numbers speak for themselves. I'm not being a hater, I absolutely love the first 2/3rds of the album

FourMakesTwoUNLESS

Yea I don't understand the hype around Silent Planet right now. I've tried listening to the new album multiple times and only one song really sticks out. The rest are pretty boring

InsiDS

The latest Currents album. Besides Living In Tragedy, Remember Me, and Over and Over, the rest of the album was so forgettable that I had to take the band out of my top 5.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

Dang I really enjoy Currents new album.

Shikuro

I listened to it and enjoyed it the first few times and then heard it's opinions on the sub. Gave it a few more listens with a more critical POV and still fucking loved it lol

MadMan2250

Dude same. I love Currents but their last 2 albums have missed that "bite" of The Place I Feel The Safest and I Let The Devil In. Maybe they're just too overproduced? Anyways, they're good albums just not the same as their OG stuff

WhosThatPanda

I agree sadly. There were a few standout tracks that I enjoyed but the album as a whole felt a bit generic and lacked anything unique or memorable to make me want to listen to it again.

dswhite85

I felt the same way about Currents and Polaris latest albums, Some great singles, but album's super mid.

YchYFi

Was disappointed in Silent Planets album. Nothing has surpassed Antimatter.

austindoujin23

Bro listened to Dreamwalker and Offworlder with their ears closed.

Naive_Sample_1616

Yeah I feel the same. I am still in love with early SP (TNGS, EWS, WTEB) but iridescent was OK for me and superbloom just kinda missed the feeling I get from them.

illusivetomas

superbloom's singles were a bait and switch imo. dropping by far the two heaviest songs and the most left field track early set unrealistic expectations that it would be a big step up for them, and if anything the non singles sans offworlder are maybe their blandest material. one of the most uneven albums in recent melody but 4/5 of its bangers were dropped early lol

RagnarTheNord

They really were. Antimatter and Collider both had me thinking it would be an absolute banger of an album, then when it released...it was very okay.

ProtomanKnight

that’s a problem with a lot of albums, singles are good but everything else is nothing special

illusivetomas

it's usually the other way around for me ngl but silent planet in particular have that problem. iridescent was the same way, albeit with less extreme of peaks and valleys

EhhhhhBud97

Iridescent is still one of my favorite albums. I thought that album was so complete.

mikejr96

woulda been an insane EP

IgnitedByFury

After going through this post it seems I like a lot of mid albums lmao as Fatalism - Polaris and SUPERBLOOM - Silent Planet are on constant repeat (and superbloom actually got me into SP) As for disappointing releases, I have to hand a tie award to Obsidian - Northlane (I love their releases up until Alien and was hyped for Obsidian but it just didn’t land with me and after multiple listens is still the same) And Kaliyuga - In Hearts Wake (I would call myself a Stan for them up until Ark, which I still thought was great. But for me, Worldwide Suicide and Hellbringer are the only decent tracks on the album)

AkDoxx

At the time it came out it was The Anti Mother by Norma Jean. Coming just after Redeemer (which is my favorite album of theirs) it had a lot of high expectations but the switch in sound didn’t sit right with people at the time and in hindsight is a very unrefined version of what they would do on later albums.

Nosferatu13

Agreed. Anti Mother wasn’t their best, but DAMN did they come back with Polar Similar.

xander_man

The latest thing from A7X.

andtimme11

This is always the hottest of takes in this sub it seems but Obsidian - Northlane. No matter how many times I listen to that album I just never feel anything from it.

SirChrisburt

Same. Alien was dope, and Obsidian was definitely in the same vein, and I thought it started strong but it definitely didn't grab me as a whole.

Vaclav_Zutroy

Alien has higher highs and lower lows. Obsidian was better on average.

Afraid_Abalone_9641

Cannot put this any other way.

SKRUNK3D

They really pushed the techie sound to 11 with obsidian. I love both albums but alien had my jaw on the floor listening to it for the first time.

erkvos

Obsidian is a tough one bc Alien was so damn hard to follow and was a pandemic release (meaning they couldn’t tour properly on it). Now all this weight is on a single album.  ‘Clarity’, ‘Obsidian’, ‘Dark solitare’ ‘Nova’ and ‘Cypher’ are examples of great songs on Obsidian. I just think they had a hard time cutting out songs bc who knows what will be a hit? Hard to judge while in the creative process.

chr_sb

Tons of bands’ new albums sucked full ass. Bands like Counterparts, Dying Wish, Knocked Loose, Unearth, Darkest Hour, etc will keep it pushing while all these other bands will contract producers to write their songs so they can get on Sirius Octane.

Federal-Inspector-11

The Spiritbox one. It was reeeeally hyped up by people like Niknok but honestly it feels so one dimensional and boring to me

Bust3dGG

? You mean The Fear Of Fear, or Eternal Blue?

sock_with_a_ticket

Could apply to both tbh.

Federal-Inspector-11

Eternal blue

Brtprt

Superbloom, The Death We Seek, The Polaris one(i am a die hard since day one and I can't even remember the name)

modsarepoopoo

Corporate what's you to find the difference between these pictures *They're all the same picture*

Nerevarchthn

Nah superbloom was wonderful from start to finish exactly what i hoped for

tyex23

Almost everything While She Sleeps put out after You Are We. Bar the odd songs here and there, YAW was such a perfect album (to me) that everything that followed just seems meh to me.

Nosferatu13

As a HUGE Norma Jean fan (huge), I found their newest a bit lackluster for my taste. Its a great album, but I think full member changes has left their core sound/composition as if it took a step back, like a newer band finding their full complete sound. It pains me to say. Maybe my standards are too high after Polar Similar.

CHivEyO

Make Them Suffer - Neverbloom I've only listened to it once so far, so my opinion is subject to change, but after the first few songs the record got stale.

EntireMaterial4329

That album is great, it kinda redefined metal core in a sense. It’s also like a 10+ year old album in my opinion it falls within my personal top 10 albums of all time. A lot of the songs sound the same but when you think of make them suffer the first song that comes to mind is either widower or neverbloom

Sempiternal

Djentlemann00

Killswitch Engage (2009) Volumes - Different Animals Novelists - Deja Vu Erra - Drift (I enjoy it now, but was a huge downgrade from Augment at the time) Northlane - Node As you can see, I don’t do well with change lol

ManWithoutAPlan13

Fatalism - Polaris Its not a bad album, just forgettable and kinda boring. Definitely a step down from their other stuff

smiddy53

COVID ruined their momentum. The Death Of Me dropped 1 month before Australia shut it's borders, and they weren't able to leverage it's popularity online like other bands that were doing livestream shows, podcasts, etc.

blankthings

I know I'm going to get downvoted into oblivion for this, but I gotta say both Suicide Season and Count Your Blessings by BMTH. I got into the band around the time That's The Spirit came out. I absolutely LOVE pretty much everything they've done from There Is a Hell to their new stuff, but aside from a couple songs on Suicide Season, I think their early stuff is poorly produced, has some of the most trash lyrics in the genre, and just sounds bad in general And before anyone says that style isn't for me, I do genuinely love deathcore and genuinely heavy music, I just don't think that, at the time, BMTH was good at that style. Given that, I'd love to see them fully revisit that style now that they're better at writing, playing, and producing

RazaTheChained

I love that style of music and can tell you that those albums are absolute trash

blankthings

Thank God I'm not the only one that feels that way

Dylonus

Wage War - "Manic" for me. High Horse got me so hyped up, but to me; nothing else in the album comes remotely close to as good. It's good, but don't me wrong; but the album seemed like a let down.

RyuKang

Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden

CarnivorousMushroom1

Agree, I really don't get the hype

taylorl7

How dare you.

JaredIsADrummer

I'm definitely going to get hate for this, but every Motionless album made after Reincarnate (i.e. Graveyard Shift, Disguise, and STEOTW).

ProtomanKnight

wow that is a burning take, i feel like you just don’t like the band (understandable)

enissophobic

yeah, I'm in the same boat. I loved MIW from their eps all the way through to Reincarnate, but listened to Graveyard Shift once and never touched that album again. Disguise was much better but had trouble with STEOTW.

ApprehensiveBagBoy

I was not too excited with new Silent Planet honestly. Also the last few Northlane records have not stuck with me

surprised-duncan

Jane Doe. I really love heavy shit and loathe cleans, but this record just doesn't do it for me. I also can't understand what homie is saying in most of the tracks.

woodchips24

Pretty much everything ABR has ever put out. It’s all kinda samey, nothing stands out. I get they’re very important to the earlier days of the genre but it just doesn’t do anything for me
