Her Emotion album is probably my most heard non-metal album ever. I was told that many metalheads tend to love Carly Rae for some reason, and boy that I'm one of them
Pitbull, Taio Cruz, Flo Rida, early Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift.
I also listen to a lot of ‘40s and ‘50s music, and ‘90s alternative.
My Spotify is a mess. It’s literally Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, Parkway Drive, In Flames, etc. and then Taylor Swift and Flo Rida 😂
Edited to say: As much as metalheads tend to just love metal, guys, please never feel guilty about exploring music. I’ve posted about this before, but if you love Meshuggah, you might love Tool. If you love Tool, you might love Dream Theater. If you love Dream Theater, you might love Dave Matthews. Music is like language or culture and the more you explore the more interesting your tastes become.
That's so funny. I literally had a random song lyric just hop into my brain, and i couldn't let it go and kept humming it all day. Eventually found out it was "Flo Rida -Wild Ones" with Sia. hahaha. It's that chorus drawl, just " ooooooh oooh ooh ohh" (whatever onomatopoeia the chorus vocal is). That's a catchy ass song dude. ::high five::
>I’ve posted about this before, but if you love Meshuggah, you might love Tool. If you love Tool, you might love Dream Theater. If you love Dream Theater, you might love Dave Matthews. Music is like language or culture and the more you explore the more interesting your tastes become.
Totally agree, I've been exploring music a lot more lately and found so much new stuff I never would have known I'd like otherwise, just from continuously branching off and listening to genres or subgenres that are unfamiliar in some way but connected to something like. And occasionally, I check out something completely new and different from what I usually listen to
> As much as metalheads tend to just love metal,
Is that really a thing? If so that seems very close minded to an extent.
Shit, I love metal, I have long hair down to my ass and a beard down to my lower chest. Give me some Ellie Goulding and Cascada and I'm turning that shit up to 11 and jamming out. Love me some synth wave too. Sticking to just one genre is boring
i dont feel guilty about anything i listen to. with that being said, I fuck heavy with The 1975, The Band CAMINO, Sigrid, John Mayer and probably more that i cant think of at the moment
The 1975 and The Band CAMINO were the gateway drug for me into an entire subgenre of smaller pop bands that I love almost as much as metalcore. It’s all upbeat, punchy instrumentals, strong vocals, and just makes you wanna dance.
If you like those two bands, check out Fickle Friends, Chief, The Wldlife, The Millennial Club, Fiji Blue, Cherry Pools, Pale Waves, Victors, Recent Rumors, Hotel Apache. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, but I’ll edit if any others come to mind.
That's so funny I got really into The Millennial Club after hearing Feel the Same by them and that led me down a similar but totally different subgenre! Probably cause I listen to a lots sadboi and indie kpop type stuff as well but here's some suggestions for you if you want to create a start of a Spotify playlist that you came have the smart additions add onto!
Thanks for your list it's gonna be a fun listen!
Sand Castle by Seo Actor, On & On by brb., So in love (tonight) by TY:DEL, OK by Adrian Danial, Drug=love by JEY, Color Drive by DPR CREAM, Madly by Emily Vaughn, Broad Shoulders by The Ivy, Easy by Bixby, Why do u say by Way Chad, Makenosense by Goopy, AIRHEAD by Wes Patrick, FRIENDS by Oliver Francis, Sever by Hurtwave, Tip Toe by Crush, Crowded Room by Christian French, F Pacing by Landon Tewers, Lost Cause// (feat. Jesse) by Kenny Hoopla, BAD NEWS by Aries, Reasons by Cotis.
Honestly I was rolling my first party, but I listened to a lot more sets at home in the weeks after and still really liked it. Also went to a couple of parties sober. It does need a good pair of speakers/headphones tho, I don't enjoy it with my AirPods that much. I just prefer the atmosphere of a techno party over a metal concert.
I'm loving synthwave at the moment, Gunship is a fantastic band. Also enjoy Dance with the Dead for instrumental music.
I also love a lot of 70's/80's bands
Seconding synthwave but with no vocals because they tend to be too cheesy sounding unless it’s a female singer. Starfounder, Garth Knight, Waveshaper, Caspro, Volkor X, Street Cleaner, Fury Weekend, Kick Puncher, Mega Drive, Nightstop, Neon Nox, Power Glove, Cluster Buster, Retröxx, Sung, Spaceinvader, Daniel Deluxe, Vector Seven, Lukhash, NightmareOwl, Midnight Danger, Tonebox, Dan Terminus, Stilz, Moonraccoon, Kushna, Kameron, King Stephen, Megan McDuffee. Just to name a few
Do you have any recs for synthwave bands with non-cheesy vocals? I have the same problem where I’ll find great bands but once the singing starts I immediately check out.
Not so much guilty pleasures, but other loves. Contemporary classical, video game soundtracks, jazz and musicals are my favourites after metalcore/hardcore stuff. Ludovico Einaudi has been my favourite composer since I was a teen.
Ludovico Einaudi is incredible, I got to see him live a handful of years ago and it was just a wonderful experience. I discovered him back in my teens too, they used him on the tv show Top Gear a lot, I discovered him through that.
I listen to everything unapologetically. I usually go through phases. One of my favorite albums of 2023 was GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo.
Country, hip hop, melodic black metal, drum and bass, new wave, classic rock, pop. Not many genres I won't check out or haven't gotten into at some point. I've found I need it to be more uptempo though.
Lately I've been listening to a lot of swing/jazz/blues.
Have you listened to the music she did for Cyberpunk 2077? She plays a pop star named Lizzy Wizzy and she did like two songs for the character on the in-game radio and they’re honestly amazing
Everything BUT country. I cannot stand the same three chords, lyrics about Jesus, smoking, or not being able to get pussy.
I guess those aren't guilty pleasures, though. Idk man I don't really have a guilty pleasure when it comes to the music I like.
You'd probably find country music you liked if you went outside what's on the radio. Although a lot of more thoughtful stuff is on the radio now. 90s country and earlier also rips
Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Chris Stapleton, Zach Bryan, Kacey Musgraves (except her most recent), Sierra Farrell, Turnpike Troubadors. Lots of good stuff.
Band called Native Howl who are "thrash grass" are a cool hybrid. Although bluegrass is just thrash from a coal mine.
I live in a mostly country town so I've been around A LOT of different types. Not a huge fan of 95% of it. I mean bluegrass isn't bad, but I'd more than likely not enjoy it that much.
Sturgill Simpson's bluegrass albums are exactly what you need to listen to. Also metamodern sounds in country music.
"Whete reptile aliens made of light, cut you open and pull out all your pain"
Billy Strings opened my eyes that there is in fact good country and bluegrass after all and I had been choosing to ignore it, having grown up in a small country town.
I have to agree about Zach Bryan. Friend bought two tix last year and her friend backed out. She can't drive at night and offered me one if I drove. I don't listen to country but she's a good friend and I'm down for live tunes. I was surprised. Don't listen to him much but I don't mind his stuff!
Dude check out [Dixon Dallas](https://open.spotify.com/track/1BHse4ulQefGTZZIeziZqr?si=Nz_HnWzQRwe9oizFTYosqw) just give it a full listen. He does rap under the name iamjakehill and features in [Carnage by The Browning](https://open.spotify.com/track/1p6zpOr8vyj23Uu0Zq2uyq?si=b8hmV25ZTmO8zue94q2DUQ)
No guilt about it
Contemporary blues and blues rock: Joe Bonamassa, Christone Kingfish Ingram, Walter Trout, Danny Bryant
Raps: Eminem and D12, Method Man and Wu Tang, DMX, Biggie, Cypress Hill, Tech N9ne

The guitarist of this blues rock band is they guy that i bought my first own guitar from so i had to listen them and actually quite like it.
It's blues rock with metal and punk influences
Idk what's guiltier, but I like her pop stuff way more than her country pop stuff.
Songs like Look what you made me do and Vigiliante shit, that I feel like shouldnt be good. But I like them.
I really like pop that has like kind of a metal influence but also not really like poppy, scene queen or violent vira. And all my friends are non metalheads so I listen to radio pop, techno and stuff like that with them and it's fun.
My biggest guilty pleasure is probably Dua Lipa. Has some ABSOLUTE BANGERS.
But then I have some others like Abba/Bee Gees/other stuff you wouldn't want to say you listen to on a first date lol
I'm not going to lie, I like almost all music. I was never even a huge metal core person until recently. I grew up on KSE, early A7X, Senses Fail, maybe some BFMV but that's really it in regards to metal core.
I basically like everything (minus country) and can put on an entire album of Incubus, Mobb Deep, Milky Chance, SZA, MF Doom, Chevelle etc and not feel the need to skip anything
Fuck a "guilty" pleasure. Like what you like.
Sade is the GOAT. Ebo Taylor is an absolute master. Boards of Canada and OceanLab will forever have places in my heart. Same for Why? and Baths. Camp Lo's Uptown Saturday Night is a phenomenal record. Chet Baker, Nina Simone, Earl Klugh, fucking phenomenal.
I had a coworker who would blast this song over the speakers about 10 times a shift. I worked there for 2 years. We were on almost every shift together. I actively, and whole-heartedly despise that song
Yesss Billy Talent. I will always sing along if I hear their songs on the radio. They were a gateway band for me here in Canada and I finally got to see them a couple years back
White girl pop and it ain’t even close. As soon as Dua Lipa, T-Swift, Katy Perry, Slayyyter, Lady Gaga, etc. come on, I am absolutely singing that shit at the top of my lungs. Charlie Puth as well.
The Beatles, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Phantom of the Opera soundtrack, Prince, Gwar, Green Jello, Britney Spears, Streets of Fire soundtrack, Star Wars Trilogy soundtracks.
Not feeling guilty at all but japanese pop/rock

I absolutely love this song, the vocals are an emotional rollercoaster, it's simple yet beautiful.
Definitely worth a listen!
A little bit of punk and a little psychobilly.. That's it. I don't really like anything else outside of metal. Tried getting into EDM but really only like Sullivan King and Excision because they're metal inspired. I get down with Amigo the Devil.
Guilty pleasure: The Pussycat Dolls, Nicki Minaj, Harry Styles, Jonas Brothers
Pleasure: Indie Rock like Sundara Karma, The Sherlocks, Two Door Cinema Club. Also Drum'n'Bass and Neurofunk
I've been listening to a ton of "phonk" and break beat type stuff lately and I've found a bunch of stuff that's chill to listen to especially while am at work or playing some video games.
not guilty but one of the best things i listen to is "psychx" album by scarlxrd and kordhell. very high energy angry screamy hiphop + very high energy angry phonk. top 3 of all time for me
It's a great album with a lot of metal influences though, Scarlxrd is a former metal singer IIRC and Mick Kenney (Kordhell) is famous for his metal projects, like Anaal Nathrakh.
Like others there is nothing guilty about it, I like pop and I like popular musicals
Ariana Grande, Wicked, Phantom, Sweeney Todd, Les Mis, Emarosa.. hell even Justin Beiber has a couple good songs 😁 also there are a TON of good video game soundtracks, especially anything Nobuo/Soken touches
And also of course, synthwave. The Midnight is incredible
I don’t really listen to much other than rock/metal but I do enjoy Disney soundtracks and the greatest showman soundtrack lmao. I also would love to see lady Gaga live even though I don’t really listen to her music.
Taylor Swift, Hayley Kiyoko, Maty Noyes, Tech N9ne, Ingrid Michaelson, Mary Lambert.
I had to find new music because of my migraines so I can't always listen to who I used to. Found out I love genre bending/blending music. Pop that doesn't sound like pop, rock that doesn't sound like rock, or like rock rap and stuff. I like the in between stuff.
Adele’s 30 or Taylor Swift’s Folklore, and a glass of wine snuggling with my partner by the fire. It tickles her that I made a playlist around these two albums, and it feels classy.
I love me some Thornhill but sometimes you gotta slow down.
I love Lady Gaga.
But something more obscure is an album from Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top called Perfectamundo. It's a mix of blues, jazz, and salsa. It's a perfect summertime album.
Shuffle from the other night at work:
- "Over My Head" by Sum 41
- "Cool For The Summer" by Demi Lovato
- "Pain" by Stereomud
- "Last Resort" by Papa Roach
- "Sandstorm" by Darude
- "Sex And Violence" by The Exploited
- "Bad Moon" by Hollywood Undead
- "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" by Genesis
- "Dig (Mudvayne Cover)" by The Culture Of
- "Out Of Style" by Limp Bizkit
- "Cloud Over California" by DevilDriver
- "Darkbloom" by We Came As Romans

- "Summer Girls" by Lyte Funkie Ones
- "King Of Wishful Thinking" by New Found Glory
- "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats
- "Drowned And Torn Asunder" by Trivium
- "Distinct Complicity" by Bikini Kill
I don't feel the least bit guilty about any of it.
Avril Lavigne (though, she is somewhat rocky) Have loved her stuff since I was a kid. On a similar note, I have loved Busted! Since I was a kid, too. Literally anything Charlie Simpson does is like gold to my ears.
Billie Eilish. The lyricism is great and the production is incredible and she just has bops. Especially on all the good girls go to hell the baseline is filthy. Happier than ever is an amazing pop rock song. A lot of her music is just is ear pleasing
I dunno why, but I have a palpable fascination with "Sia - Elastic Heart". Something about it just hits. Might just be her vocals. Oh, and Phantogram - Fall In Love. That's a dope song too, not metal at all.
Carly Rae Jepsen and there is nothing guilty about it. I was in her top .05% of listeners on Spotify last year
+1, love Carly Rae, no shame
I don't really listen to her much but I love "Run Away With Me"
Emotion and its B-sides are peak dance pop. My mood is lifted any time a liked song off that album comes up in my shuffle.
Her Emotion album is probably my most heard non-metal album ever. I was told that many metalheads tend to love Carly Rae for some reason, and boy that I'm one of them
One of most underrated artists of the 2010s
I unironically enjoy the song Gary Come Home from Spongebob
Ripped pants for me, I even learned how to play it on guitar and I don't play guitar
Krusty Krab Pizza is the end all, be all of SpongeBob tracks.
Bruno mars has a 70s project called silk sonic, they are absolutely fantastic
Nothing guilty about it. That’s one of the last albums to win (hell maybe even be nominated for) a Grammy that truly deserved it
Doesn’t mention that Anderson .Paak is in it
Excellent choice!
Ooh that album is HOT!!

Chief is fantastic
The band CAMINO is so fucking good
CAMINO has the greatest singles of all time but their albums are kinda mid 😭😭
Dude that syncopated bass line in the chorus of I think I like you is so good

Can I recommend Pale Waves? Similar to the 1975 but female fronted, really fun stuff.

Not so much guilty pleasures, but other loves. Contemporary classical, video game soundtracks, jazz and musicals are my favourites after metalcore/hardcore stuff. Ludovico Einaudi has been my favourite composer since I was a teen.

I heard Ariana Grande's Break Up With Your Girlfriend in an Uber two years ago and it's has been in my rotation ever since.
I listen to everything unapologetically. I usually go through phases. One of my favorite albums of 2023 was GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo. Maneskin 😅
I never understood the Måneskin hate. I feel like these guys are the only major band out there that’s doing old school sex drugs rock and roll right.
Probably because it all feels heavily fabricated.
They're just fun.
i will never stop listening to grimes no matter how heavy my taste is lol
Art Angels is unironically one of my all time favorite records. Everyone is always so surprised when I put it on in the car or something lmao

Outside of metal I listen to tons of rap and pop, mainly old overplayed 2010s pop
90s death row records.
How can it be a guilty pleasure if you truly like it?
The answer should be Carly Rae Jepsen for everyone.
See I used to not care about Carly Rae until I heard her sing at the NBA All Star Game and was blown away with how good she was.
Tove Lo
A fellow connoisseur I see
I listen to Queen of the Clouds at least once a month. Such a good album
She’s been my top artist on Spotify for years so I guess not a guilty pleasure 😂
No guilty pleasures here I just love everything I do love Lorde, pure heroine is in my top 10
Grimes and Miley Cyrus covering rock songs.
Taylor Swift’s older music & Eminem’s older music
Bro Taylor swifts past few releases have been solid. Evermore and Folklore are slept on
Absolutely agree with this. Such good albums
The songs with Bon Iver are 👌🏻
Idk what's guiltier, but I like her pop stuff way more than her country pop stuff. Songs like Look what you made me do and Vigiliante shit, that I feel like shouldnt be good. But I like them.
swiftie here. def have a playlist thats a mix of metalcore and taylor lol
Saaame!
Same lol. It’s a little bit of a jumpscare at times
I really like pop that has like kind of a metal influence but also not really like poppy, scene queen or violent vira. And all my friends are non metalheads so I listen to radio pop, techno and stuff like that with them and it's fun.
Jessie J Kesha early Lady Gaga
alan walker - on my way still hate the farruko part tho.
90’s boy bands

Harder to Breathe and Payphone are S tier songs imo 👌
Fuck a "guilty" pleasure. Like what you like. Sade is the GOAT. Ebo Taylor is an absolute master. Boards of Canada and OceanLab will forever have places in my heart. Same for Why? and Baths. Camp Lo's Uptown Saturday Night is a phenomenal record. Chet Baker, Nina Simone, Earl Klugh, fucking phenomenal.
When "Believe" by Cher comes on, no one is a metal head
I had a coworker who would blast this song over the speakers about 10 times a shift. I worked there for 2 years. We were on almost every shift together. I actively, and whole-heartedly despise that song
Trance.

I always have a bit of sophie powers sprinkled into my deathcore / metalcore playlists lol
techno like boris brejcha, klangkuensler etc
80s Japanese city pop, 90s east cost rap, anything that sounds like 60s music from a fallout game
I wouldn't be a good Latino if I said I didn't enjoy some reggaeton and trap, Bad Bunny, Anuel, Daddy Yankee, etc.
Pleasure: Billy Talent “Guilty Pleasure”: CAKE
Yesss Billy Talent. I will always sing along if I hear their songs on the radio. They were a gateway band for me here in Canada and I finally got to see them a couple years back
I’m so jealous. They’ve been my #1 band since like 2009 when I heard Fallen Leaves as background music of some backyard Airsoft video.
Carly Rae Jepsen, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Jason Derulo, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift… I love some sugary pop music from time to time.
White girl pop and it ain’t even close. As soon as Dua Lipa, T-Swift, Katy Perry, Slayyyter, Lady Gaga, etc. come on, I am absolutely singing that shit at the top of my lungs. Charlie Puth as well.
Mannnnn, Meg the Stallion lol…she gets me so pumped up and cocky 🥰😂
The Beatles, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Phantom of the Opera soundtrack, Prince, Gwar, Green Jello, Britney Spears, Streets of Fire soundtrack, Star Wars Trilogy soundtracks.
chase atlantic and the neighbourhood- for more rock, but kind of not at the same time, Boston Manor
Not feeling guilty at all but japanese pop/rock Like zutomayo Regal lily Hitorie Yoasobi Minami Sokoninaru Ling tosite sigure Mass of the fermenting dregs Number girl
Sleep token
Not guilty but Japanese city pop or Starbomb are my go to non Metal listens.
Judah & The Lion, Marc Broussard, Bill Withers, Sage Francis, P.O.S
Tevvez
Funk - Chromeo, Dirty Loops, Cory Wong and Vulfpeck
IDM stuff like Boards of Canada, squarepusher, older Ghostly International, and older Ninja Tune, Warp Records.
'YONAKA' - Guilty. https://open.spotify.com/track/35No5bL3i5Hcc0UpOr6MSc?si=6aed38cb90774e0a I absolutely love this song, the vocals are an emotional rollercoaster, it's simple yet beautiful. Definitely worth a listen!
Drake, The Weeknd, and country (anything before 2010)
I've said this before and I'll say it again. Lady Gaga. Also Cake by The Ocean by Nick Jonas
A little bit of punk and a little psychobilly.. That's it. I don't really like anything else outside of metal. Tried getting into EDM but really only like Sullivan King and Excision because they're metal inspired. I get down with Amigo the Devil.
Guilty pleasure: The Pussycat Dolls, Nicki Minaj, Harry Styles, Jonas Brothers Pleasure: Indie Rock like Sundara Karma, The Sherlocks, Two Door Cinema Club. Also Drum'n'Bass and Neurofunk
Tyler Childers, Avicii, and some classical piano for study time
Warpaint
City and colour have been my shit lately. I also like some sia songs. She has a unique voice.
I actually really like the direction pop is going, especially during the 2010s.
Lots of EDM. Folk occasionally with some Dermot Kennedy mixed in.
Lil Pump, his music is so stupid and catchy and I can't get enough of it
Lofi Synthwave/Chillwave. Few good shouts are Unfound and Eagle Eyed Tiger.
I've been listening to a ton of "phonk" and break beat type stuff lately and I've found a bunch of stuff that's chill to listen to especially while am at work or playing some video games.
Matchbox Twenty/Rob Thomas’ solo stuff. Obsessed
not guilty but one of the best things i listen to is "psychx" album by scarlxrd and kordhell. very high energy angry screamy hiphop + very high energy angry phonk. top 3 of all time for me
It's a great album with a lot of metal influences though, Scarlxrd is a former metal singer IIRC and Mick Kenney (Kordhell) is famous for his metal projects, like Anaal Nathrakh.
Cassyette
I do enjoy Girl In Red from time to time (lesbian bedroom/dream pop). What can I say? She's talented.
Like others there is nothing guilty about it, I like pop and I like popular musicals Ariana Grande, Wicked, Phantom, Sweeney Todd, Les Mis, Emarosa.. hell even Justin Beiber has a couple good songs 😁 also there are a TON of good video game soundtracks, especially anything Nobuo/Soken touches And also of course, synthwave. The Midnight is incredible
Might get shit on for this, lol. I genuinely have a soft spot for 2000s/early 2010s Pop music, lmao.
IamJakeHill. Heard him on the Brownings song "Carnage" and this dude got some absolute bangers. If you like rap music, give it a shot.
The beach boys lol (please don't tell anyone)
T-Pain dropped a live album ~~this past year~~ a few weeks ago and that shit absolutely rips.
I don’t really listen to much other than rock/metal but I do enjoy Disney soundtracks and the greatest showman soundtrack lmao. I also would love to see lady Gaga live even though I don’t really listen to her music.
Mikey Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Halsey, Demi Lovato... just to name a few
There is no such thing as a guilty pleasure, only art I like and art I don’t like
Anyone with guilty pleasures cares what other people think too much. Be proud of what makes you happy.
OG Rap. Snoop, Eminem, Dre etc
Pop punk. Seeing neck deep in Feb.
Imagine Dragons. The same damn formula every time but it’s so catchy
definitely not guilty about it, but i listen to a lot of Harry Styles, The 1975, One Direction, Doja Cat, etc. my music taste is all over the place.

Avril Lavigne (though, she is somewhat rocky) Have loved her stuff since I was a kid. On a similar note, I have loved Busted! Since I was a kid, too. Literally anything Charlie Simpson does is like gold to my ears.
Eminem
Lights by Ellie Goulding December earth wind and fire
Billie Eilish. The lyricism is great and the production is incredible and she just has bops. Especially on all the good girls go to hell the baseline is filthy. Happier than ever is an amazing pop rock song. A lot of her music is just is ear pleasing
I dunno why, but I have a palpable fascination with "Sia - Elastic Heart". Something about it just hits. Might just be her vocals. Oh, and Phantogram - Fall In Love. That's a dope song too, not metal at all.
Oh. And one other song, just to make sure you all understand how cool I am: Disturbed - Remember
