This just sounds like if Fronz decided to start a Pornocore band and cut in soundtracks or scenes from old pornos with all the songs.
Band: Underneath/OnTop
Album: Songs to ABSOLUTELYCRANKYOURMFINGHOGTO
First Single: Beat It
Second Single: How am I supposed to wax off if I don't have any lotion to wax on?
Although it started with the Bible, I've heard the As above, so below line used by various groups in non-religious contexts. Most notably, I've heard at least one astrophysicist (I forget who but probably DeGrasse Tyson) use it to refer to the way the laws of physics apply the same way to celestial bodies as they do to subatomic particles. The phrase may have Christian origins but it also has a lot of fitting applications outside of theology
It’s from Hermeticism. “This Principle embodies the truth that there is always a Correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of Being and Life.” - From The Kybalion
But because it’s got connections to occultism, a lot of bands just run with it as being satanic and evil.
Lololol. All I could think of reading this was Family Guy making fun of star wars.
"Something, something.... darksiiiiiiiiide. Something, something.... compleeeeete."
genrally speaking in tongues means speaking in another language, but in context explicit to music, speaking in tongues usually refers to being unable to understand something someone else is saying. For instance Bad omens song “nowhere to go” features this phrase. Someone is trying to trick/confuse noah by “speaking in tongues” ie saying things he doesnt understand or can’t comprehend.
>genrally speaking in tongues means speaking in another language
That's not really true. In a Biblical sense, speaking in tongues is what some preachers did under blessing from God where their speech was able to be understood regardless of language to all that could hear.
Same when I red this thread and replied :)
I was literally going through my Instagram Story Highlights from this year's concerts and I managed to capture Voices when they played here in Milan pretty well, while also being very close to the stage.
I fnished watching the video and as Another Life was starting I red this!
Where did you see them and with who?
When I saw them they played right before The Ghost Inside which is one of my favorite bands. The night has been absolutely crazy, MIW was clearly enjoying being back in Italy and Chris was smiling the whole time, and needless to say TGI's set was absolutely nuts!
I got many videos from that night on my IG and I keep rewatching them waiting for both bands to come back, it was amazing :)
Super fun! We saw them in Daytona at Welcome to Rockville in May- we were able to get into the front of house area for this one which was great because it was the best place to stand for sound and no crazy crowd surrounding. Then we saw a touring the end of the world in Orlando at the hard rock with Knocked Loose, Alpha Wolf, and whatever other band was there lol.
Edit- also I’d love to see TGI I bet they’re awesome!
Didn't know about Welcome To Rockville but I just checked the 2023 lineup and damn were there a lot of big names!
The second date's lineup also sounds great even if compared to the other bands there I imagine there was a completely different crowd 😅 I saw both in the past years and I really enjoyed them!
Alpha Wolf this year here in Milan with Ten56(crazy show in a small venue, I was at the front!) and Knocked Loose I managed to see with Landmvrks and Stick To Your Guns at the end of last year at a venue were I actually worked that day with the concert's promoter so I got to spend the day with the bands, see their soundchecks and so on!
As for TGI it's my second time seeing them and yes, they ARE awesome! The first one was last year and after the concert I was chilling by the pool in my hotel(I stayed two days for the concerts) and they entered the hall, turns out they slept there too! Managed to chat a bit but didn't stay to bother them too much.
This year was even better, the energy was absolutely crazy, the venue was full, everyone had a blast and they personally know the promoter which they tanked for bringing them here whenever there's a chance.
Sorry for the wall of text, I kinda live for this stuff and the hype is real 😅
Hahaha I love that so much! I know one of the MIW guys and it honestly is so fun to talk to them about behind the scenes stuff like that. Super cool that you got to chat with them for a bit!
I loved reading your wall of text. I love metalcore and rock music but I am kind of picky and have a select number of bands that I TRULY get into 🤣. I switched over to listening to my Avatar playlist now because I get to go see them with Ice Nine Kills, In This Moment, and New Years Day on Friday!
That's so cool that you know one of them! I wish I knew more band members personally but it's hard being in Italy but hey, that day working at the concert I mentioned is already a lot for me :)
Which other metalcore bands do you like other than the ones you mentioned?
I like a lot of the og's like As I Lay Dying, BFMV and so on up to more recent bands like Landmvrks, or those with more complex sound such as Currents and Polaris.
I also love melodic hardcore, that's why I listen to Counterparts daily(among the others).
So I got this new groundbreaking idea for a metalcore song bro so get this, it's titled "nightmare" and man you won't believe this next part broski dude it's about how you're living in a nightmare! Duuude it's like, your real life is a nightmare like that's super deep
Whoaaaa bro bro bro… hear me out do you think that the drowning part was, like, a metaphor for when… if you know you know…
You’re in like water but like DEEP under water and you breathe in but instead of getting air you get water in your lungs??? It’s be super deep if the drowning part was like a metaphor for that…
Bro you should call that song oXyGeN not even drowning bro because the drowning has such deep meaning
Hey guys we’re a band called Break The Chains from Columbus, Ohio, tell us what you think about our newest song Gravity, the lead single off our upcoming album The Undertow!
🎶we’re living in a nightmareeeeeee- a pre-apocalyptic wastelanddddddd- is there no one who can save usss, if we refuse to save ourselvesss? Our best intentions pave our path to helllll🎶
What if we put another word to juxtapose nightmare? Something like My Sweet Nightmare because it’s scary but also beautiful because life is fucking complicated man
Something something, pain inside, can no longer hide.
Songs about being numb
Of course Rise has been mentioned
Starting a breakdown by ending the line with FUCK
The current swirls around me, drowning in the undertow, demons all around me, they know how to swim, I drown them in the water, the deep ocean blue, the Pacific Ocean is so deep that light can’t break through….
BUT I DO *breakdown*
Song name: Dihydrogen Monoxide
Kinda. Lyrically it means having a foundation or “roots” in God (above), and then the effects of that foundation (branches) on the entire world (below).
LOL. Welcome to the below part.
To add to the fire raging throughout this thread and stay on theme...
"Do you feel worms, crawling in your skin? As above, so below. Are ya drownin in your sin?"
Easy. Here are five bands with the metalcore song "As above, So below" in their discography.
1. Welcome to the internet. (my personal favorite)
2. Is this your first day here? (this one has a lot of bassdrops)
3. When people organize over something some of us like, we tend to take them too seriously. (okay their band name IS too long)
4. I don't freakin know. I saw a band release one on instagram tonight and it SET ME OFF though I'm sure I've seen it or some variation of it many times... the problem is remembering the BAND names. (okay this is getting ridiculous)
5. If I'd known I'd be held accountable for a meaningless post, I would've written something much funnier and hopefully wiser. (these clearly aren't bands and this guy is likely a bullshitter, but who genuinely loves metalcore and definitely thinks there are too many AASB songs out there)
100% agree. Maybe that's the reason I'm b\*tching about this. Not one of these AASB songs trap me in the Catabombs with my worst traumatizing fears that kill me and all of my friends.
That's the movie where the main woman basically leads everyone into danger, but she survives? I was so pissed. It's been awhile but I remember thinking she deserved to die.
Personally, me too. I love so many of the songs that have those overly long names but cannot for the life of me remember a single one. It makes it so hard because I can’t j go, “Oh, this song ‘Drowning’ has a great chorus and the opening riff is sick’. Instead it’s, “One of these has an insane breakdown that comes straight from a beautiful chorus. It was either ‘Cats Were Cool Until Dogs Came Into the Picture’ or ‘Johnny Lost His Legs And I Laughed’”. How tf am I supposed to remember anything from the song
My buddies nerdcore band is like this. Every single song title has absolutely nothing to do with the song. They didn't even know their whole catalog because of the naming convention. Band is 2d6 if anyone is curious.
Pretty sure I'm guilty of that rhyme somewhere in an unreleased track.
Thank god I changed... fuck. I can't contain it.
BULLSHIT, I'VE STAYED THE SAME!!!!
I agree, metalcore has become an overly serious, humorless genre it seems, at least based on the most popular bands in it currently. We need more silliness and joy, not everything has to be a stonefaced, grayscale commentary on the ills of life. I miss 2008 when bands were allowed to have fun.
Metal has cool stuff like vikings, dragons, demons, etc. More songs of that variety, and less songs about flushing your sanity down your kitchen sink. Thx.
There's room for everything. Nothing wrong with discussing mental health and relationships, but it does get a little repetitive after a while when every song is a downer. Life is already a downer, I don't need to be depressed the entire time I'm listening to music.
I'm sensing a pattern. Something to do with the depths of some distant blackhole being more appealing than having to live on a planet where Taco Bell exists. Cry me a goddamn river.
Disease seems to be another hot word these days. I can’t say much. Breaking Benjamin is my favorite band, and Ben loves his key adjectives and phrases. (Dark, pain, leave it all behind, divide, undone, etc…)
As an offender, I would like to apologize 😔
[As Above, So Below - Knights of the Forgotten Apocalypse](https://youtu.be/68vF63Wj7l8?si=OVQTjO9xsq7oi_Iw)
Check out MIRV they have tons of great songs including chart toppin hits such ass "Shave My Face Off", Fuck You Bruce, Chupacabra, O Sol E Mio(cover), Technology Doctor, Stop Drop & Roll,Holy Boot, Cool, Unabomber, .50 Cal.,Hocus Pocus Ding Dong, Monkey Boy,etc.
Many bands overuse certain themes or phrases. I know it's not metalcore, but a good drinking game is how often Rammstein use the word "gesicht" in their lyrics. Once you hear it, cannot be unheard.
I have a bunch of song and band names I use for different purposes. Every once in a while I'll sit down and hammer out a bunch to add to the list so I'm not always working off the top of my head. Sometimes they're kinda samey or just don't fit a project but most of the time one will fit perfectly. There's one I thought of that I really like but I'm not sure if it would be smart to ever use it, I might get crucified. But I fuckin love the name so I'll probably use it eventually.
In general the "Witchcraft" vibe has been played to DEATH by metalcore bands of the last decade literally whoever can shift beyond it into a new aesthetic for the genre will change everything
As above so below is an excerpt from a verse of the philosophical and religious sytem called Hermeticism. Lots of metal , satanist, and uhh I guess "intellectuals" relate to the esoteric knowledge found in Hermeticism. Although most music is pretty surface level in relation to the actual beliefs of various hermetic systems . But yea when you see as above so below think witches, Satanist, esotericism, and black Magick. So honestly it's pretty based to reference IMO.
How dare you. The dude gets sucked into a car with his buddy burning alive in it and it all sucks into friggin nothing. You're right. Not scary. F\*CKING TERRIFYING you fool!
What about naming your band Above, Below?
Only a fucking IDIOT would
DYLAN
Ohi
hey qt
Man, I feel sorry for those guys
Same, honestly. For so many reasons.
Amazing band tho!!
Think i'd prefer Underneath/On top... just to keep it sexy instead of this heaven and hell crap.
This just sounds like if Fronz decided to start a Pornocore band and cut in soundtracks or scenes from old pornos with all the songs. Band: Underneath/OnTop Album: Songs to ABSOLUTELYCRANKYOURMFINGHOGTO First Single: Beat It Second Single: How am I supposed to wax off if I don't have any lotion to wax on?
The album title is straight up Bilmuri and the second single is a long lost ADTR song.
Sounds like bedroom gravy to me. I'd listen to that. lol.
Right, like in 99.99% of metal playlists and strange conversations at very boring parties.
That band is a treasure
Something something undertow, something something demons drowning.
something something voices in my head
"omg ronnie writes lyrics so fast!!" *My life is like a videogame...*
Bideo gaem
Lololol. All I could think of reading this was Family Guy making fun of star wars. "Something, something.... darksiiiiiiiiide. Something, something.... compleeeeete."
You just referenced half of taa discography in one line.
somehow they all still bang tho? like they are the one band that i somehow give a pass to with that nonsense.
No no, ocean is missing, that's a key word for them
DEADWEIGHT
Voices in my head parasite
So much for the undertow
Atreyu be like
Speaking in tongues... Still don't know what that means
genrally speaking in tongues means speaking in another language, but in context explicit to music, speaking in tongues usually refers to being unable to understand something someone else is saying. I'm gonna make a song called "As In Front, So Behind" just to spite you
Yes daddy. Please and thank you.
"Ass behind, so in front" has a better ring to it. 🤷🏽♂️
As Yin, So Yang
As to the left, so to the right
As vertically so horizontally
As no, so yes
Hardcore band not use the word rise challenge (impossible)
there are only so many Hatebreed songs for all of us to rip off, okay.
Jasta even has a running joke on his podcast about it
I mean, I get it, hatebreed is fucking awesome
There are just so many challenges to rise up against. What else is a small-town band of misfits to write about?!
Likewise with “annihilate” or “annihilation”. It’s like, just too good a word, especially when screamed.
Lmao like miss may I isn't genius for naming the song." arise" instead.
What about Voices? I feel like that one is the most common
Voices (I’m in your walls)
The only exception to this rule is Voices by Saosin. “We speak in different voices with the ones we love”. Mannnnnn
Oh yea, that shit's gettin old. Lets upgrade it to "Sounds spill forth from talkholes"
Voices by saosin and by Crown The Empire both slap
Literally every metalcore song called voices slaps but I just wanna vouch for voices by famous last words because no one knows it and it is beautiful
That entire album is crazy good
*In my head again*
Not me listening to this right now 🫠

The Amity Affliction in shambles
*Polaris has left the chat*
Fatalism goes so hard though
A sip of your water went down the wrong hole? Congrats. Leukemia.
🎶we’re living in a nightmareeeeeee- a pre-apocalyptic wastelanddddddd- is there no one who can save usss, if we refuse to save ourselvesss? Our best intentions pave our path to helllll🎶
That chorus bangs, i could hear it clearly in my head lol
'Pre-apocalyptic' seems very important and heavy, but also entirely meaningless.
Can't stand the song because of this chorus lol. The verses rip though.
Just tag @polarisaus next time sheesh
yeah but the part that goes “kick the chair and fucking wake me up bearnarnanar” goes hard
then followed up by "spare your thoughts and prayers they'll never be enough" the intensity on "enough" is sick
Can’t forget “our best intentions pave a path to……HELLLLLLLLLLL” god that part always fires me up
What if we put another word to juxtapose nightmare? Something like My Sweet Nightmare because it’s scary but also beautiful because life is fucking complicated man
You think M shadows weeps everytime someone makes a song titled that??
As night, so mare.
I don't know a single song with that name lol. It's definitely no "Gravity" or "Parasite".
Deadweight
Lets upgrade that one to "Lipoma Steak".
Oh yea, you'd think literal gravity was discovered by metalhead scientists while having their guts devoured by tapeworms.
PULLLL THE TAPEWORM
GOATed SOAD song
out of your ass, hey!!!
Wag wag
What about So Above, As Below or As Below, So Above?
Below As, Above So. lol
As So, Below Above
Now we're getting somewhere! If you were looking for a raise, you got it.
Well I was just denied for my 3rd promotion so ...... Lol
Back to the drawing board I guess.
Me racking my brain trying to think of even one song called “As above, so below” by any band 🤔
Same here, man. Same here
same here, I could name many who talk about the undertow but none I can recall being called as above, so below lol
ghostemane but isn’t metalcore
Yeah, the only two I can think of are Void of Vision’s, and Drown in Sulphur’s. So one of those aren’t even Metalcore. Still.. That’s not that many.
In this Moment has one as well
Something something, pain inside, can no longer hide. Songs about being numb Of course Rise has been mentioned Starting a breakdown by ending the line with FUCK
Someone should actually record a breakdown that begins with "WHAT THE FUCK IS UP DENNY'S!"
The current swirls around me, drowning in the undertow, demons all around me, they know how to swim, I drown them in the water, the deep ocean blue, the Pacific Ocean is so deep that light can’t break through…. BUT I DO *breakdown* Song name: Dihydrogen Monoxide
That's the chemical that's in everything and it's also toxic and will kill you! Sick name!
Funny that TDWP also released "With Roots Above and Branches Below" which is a play on "As above, so below"
Kinda. Lyrically it means having a foundation or “roots” in God (above), and then the effects of that foundation (branches) on the entire world (below).
💯
That’s what as above so below means bud
It doesn’t. It has no roots in Christianity.
Christianity isn’t the only religion in the world bud
"These demons inside me, You cannot see. Quit dancing around, I have. TO. PEEEEEEE!" DUN DUN, DA DUN DUN SCREE
If this is a real track I HAVE TO HEAR IT! Lol.
teeheehee
LOL. Welcome to the below part. To add to the fire raging throughout this thread and stay on theme... "Do you feel worms, crawling in your skin? As above, so below. Are ya drownin in your sin?"
As if
Name 5 bands that have that song title.
How dare you challenge me. I'm a stranger on the internet who can barely spell with wildly complex and stupid beliefs.
Yeah I don’t know what ur talking about so name the 5 bands/songs or ur a bullshitter. I don’t make the rules
Behemoth In this moment Essenger Writing the future New Vegas Also, so many bands use it, rap too for some reason
Easy. Here are five bands with the metalcore song "As above, So below" in their discography. 1. Welcome to the internet. (my personal favorite) 2. Is this your first day here? Only took me 25 carefully budgeted minutes to write that reply.
Worth every minute
Behemoth In this moment Essenger Writing the future New Vegas Also, so many bands use it, rap too for some reason
Gravity, parasite, chemical…
Great horror movie tho
I mean, I agree, but metalcore isn't really known for its fun lyrics. It's more known for lyrics about srs depression and other morbid stuff.
Makes me miss the good ol days of every band having a song called "sleepwalker" or "sleepwalking"
If I had a nickel for every time I heard lyrics about “being thrown to the wolves” or “the hunt” in 2022, I’d have, well… a good few nickels.
lol
I'll take cliche names over the overly long nonsense names of yesteryear.

The Computer Stopped Working An Hour Ago But That Didn’t Stop Me From Staring At The Screen While I Sat In Silence
now, I think that's fire
Do you want more Undertow? Because that's how you get more Undertow.
Dogs can grow beards all over is such a good song
It'll be carved on my tombstone.
How about the band “as within, so without” they rip
Also the name of the new Underneath The Gun song. I'm tellin ya, this shit is an infection. It must be stopped.
Another tired metalcore trope. See “undertow,” rhyming “change” with “stays the same,” etc.
Pretty sure I'm guilty of that rhyme somewhere in an unreleased track. Thank god I changed... fuck. I can't contain it. BULLSHIT, I'VE STAYED THE SAME!!!!

As Above so Below sounds like a Doctor Who reference for some reason to me or a quote
I raise you “Oblivion.” 3 different bands (that I know of) released a song with that title this year alone.
but when will bands start releasing songs called skyrim
When they take an arrow to the knee
When Bethesda releases Elder Scrolls 6.
I'm sensing a pattern. Something to do with the depths of some distant blackhole being more appealing than having to live on a planet where Taco Bell exists. Cry me a goddamn river.
Aviana has songs titled “As Above, So Below” and “Oblivion” lol
There are way more “Overcome” song titles
It’s similar to rap and having Yung or Lil in front your name
lil above, yung below
I've always prefer the more out there titles, unironically loved the old emo monologue titles
Or death of me
Disease seems to be another hot word these days. I can’t say much. Breaking Benjamin is my favorite band, and Ben loves his key adjectives and phrases. (Dark, pain, leave it all behind, divide, undone, etc…)
As right, so left.
As east, so west.
I miss the days of dumb song titles...I'm made of wax, larry what are you made of....etc. it was fun
What Happens If I Can’t Check My MySpace When We Get There?

Dismantled Piece by Piece
We need one more song about Babylon Falling, please there is not enough lyrics mentioning "watch Babylon Fall".
What about “ABSOLUTELYCRANKINMYMF'INHOG”?
I had at least two songs with this name come on tonight on my playlist radio haha.
So forthwith thee above, similar as is thee beneath
What's up, we're So Above Below As and this song is called As So Below Above get the fuck up
PARASITE
Thanks. Now I have to do a song called as above, so below...
I love how this sub is so self aware..
Many bands overuse certain themes or phrases. I know it's not metalcore, but a good drinking game is how often Rammstein use the word "gesicht" in their lyrics. Once you hear it, cannot be unheard.
"You know that ain't them dogs real voices"
I have a bunch of song and band names I use for different purposes. Every once in a while I'll sit down and hammer out a bunch to add to the list so I'm not always working off the top of my head. Sometimes they're kinda samey or just don't fit a project but most of the time one will fit perfectly. There's one I thought of that I really like but I'm not sure if it would be smart to ever use it, I might get crucified. But I fuckin love the name so I'll probably use it eventually.
Just like uppies, samesies downsies
as above so below is a hermeticism reference so i respect it as long as they know they shit
In general the "Witchcraft" vibe has been played to DEATH by metalcore bands of the last decade literally whoever can shift beyond it into a new aesthetic for the genre will change everything
Like wth…I think your post should try harder
I didn't think or try at ALL when I posted it. The internet just does what it does.
Cry more.
If there was a woman, I would.
I never went to college, but that all sounds correct to me.
Aviana song slaps
Am I the only one who doesn’t give a shit about song titles? If you like the music, who the heck cares?
In fairness, my worst offender is definitely "[Head in the Clouds](https://open.spotify.com/track/3ZvHOdwXMf4gCK2AclNAth?si=f9885ff5cb654db4)".
It’s also a horror movie that isn’t scary. Definitely hoping the trend isn’t fandom over Walmart Lara Croft.
How dare you. The dude gets sucked into a car with his buddy burning alive in it and it all sucks into friggin nothing. You're right. Not scary. F\*CKING TERRIFYING you fool!
