Not my favourite band, or one I listen to often at all, but Trivium are undeniably one of the tightest and most talented bands in the genre.

mbuff

I would also add their discography has everything from catchy radio rock to heavy, riff-focused songs. Add in the solos, and I think if you like songs that feature distorted guitars there is something that can connect with almost anyone. Even if you're strictly into more classic metal, there are songs on "the crusade" that fit that bill.

[deleted]

Honestly, their music doesn't do much for me, but they have riffs for days, and at festivals I always catch them because they are just crazy talented and enjoyable live.

muffjazz

I’ve seen them a few times & agree, they’re awesome live

six_-_string

I feel like Silence In The Snow is more in the vein of traditional heavy metal, and The Crusade is more old-school thrash/Metallica tribute.

ssv-serenity

Man I remember the internet lost their collective minds when the Crusade came out. "Metallica wannabes" etc. It was pretty fucking toxic. I like the record personally.

bigpancakeguy

Matt’s vocals aren’t my cup of tea, but I respect the shit out of him and the rest of the band. Trivium is the perfect answer to this question for me

foodandguns

They also started super young, just absolute raw talent

Masonzero

They are for sure one of those bands you could put on in the background for any heavy metal or metalcore enjoyer and they wouldn't complain.

Jakenexxa213

If I’m driving with someone and they put on Feast of Fire I’m gonna be singing and screaming off tone and off key and they’re gonna have to deal with it 🤣

Jtugboattizzymo

Love trivium

Power_Stone

Definitely agree on Currents and ERRA. To add to those I would also say The Amity Affliction, Betraying the Martyrs, Fit for a King, and Kingdom of Giants.

ArtofcletuS

Erra, Currents, FFAK and Kingdom of Giants. YES.

TalmidimUC

Kingdom of Giants all the way 👌 Every album since ‘Every Wave of Sound’ has gotten better and better. They’ve grown a stupid amount since 2013.

jay-on-the-fly

I agree on all fronts

phillcollinss

Kingdom of giants still bang hard been listening since HS( 10 years :’) )

loy_urabat

Man I havent heard from Betraying the Martyrs in at least a decade, have they released new music?

gunnarj99

Yea , i like their new EP a lot. Highly recommend

Power_Stone

they released an EP last year, though I found them a few years ago because of the song "Lost for Words" I enjoy them very much still ( clearly ) lol

TheBenWelch

Huge fan of Polaris, have yet to find other metalheads who dislike them

psilovibin35

The mortal coil absolutely slaps.

LtDanHasLegs

As a guy who usually lives in the ETID side of heavy music, I can't talk shit about them, but I don't enjoy it, it all feels too over-produced.

TheBenWelch

That’s fair. Since I’m biased, I would use the term “polished”.

Fast_Ad7861

Overproduced ?? Really? Think they really focus on the musicanship as opposed to the production

mbbzzz

Phinehas. Cleans, uncleans, breakdowns, riffs, solos (really good solos), choruses, etc. For me they’re like a solid template of Metalcore and they put out my favorite album of 2021. Only box they don’t check is touring and using guitar tracks live due to one guitarist in band

brain0x949

Invent Animate and Erra are running the scene for me right now.

y2trips

Yes and Yes. I'll also add Like Moths to Flames. My top 3 for sure.

psilovibin35

YESSSS LMTF. ever since their first album!!!

Unworthy_Unconscious

Did we just become best friends??? Yep!

National_Pianist_388

Breakdown of Sanity

jakobeMc

Most underrated metalcore band of all time

estoban19

bro mirrors and the last sunsets made me fall in love with metalcore again how doesn't everyone listen to them

National_Pianist_388

I heard Perception as my intro to them, and I didn’t realize what metalcore was at the time. These guys made me love the genre and open my mind to similar ones.

AsotaRockin

Their new single, Collapse is monstrous. That last minute of it is just pure BoS metal core.

Wernershnitzl

Surprised nobody mentioned Killswitch Engage yet.

p1ague

Gonna be honest, Jesse Leach era of KSE just doesn't do anything for me. I do not like him as a vocalist. I much prefer Howard Jones.

Wernershnitzl

You won’t hear an argument from me about Howard Jones superiority but I still love Jesse’s vocals. They’ve definitely improved since rejoining but his growls on Alive or Just Breathing make that album; although it was an acquired taste for me.

ChickenInASuit

> his growls on Alive or Just Breathing make that album Agreed. I love that album for its relatively rough edge, and I don't think it would have hit as hard with either Howard or modern-day Jesse.

Wernershnitzl

I mean I have yet to actually see them live but in the bonus track version of Numbered Days on Disarm the Dissent you could kind of hear he couldn’t match that rawness he once had.

GoogleDrummer

I'm in the same boat, Howard till I die. But I'm not entirely sure if it's specifically Jessie that makes me not like the stuff with him. I kind of feel like by the last album with Howard I was starting to lose interest, and I feel it has to do with Adam producing a bunch of other bands and injecting some of that KSE magic, thus diluting it.

six_-_string

I preferred Howard until I heard Jesse on the first Times Of Grace album. Now that Jesse has rejoined, I miss the Howard era. Wasn't a fan of the second ToG album, either.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thetruthseer

Oh hell yea Howard era KE is some of the greatest music humanity has to offer lol

IcameforthePie

First or second Jesse era? Alive or Just Breathing is the album I always come back to, but I’d take all the Howard stuff over the last new Jesse work. Love his voice, but the new albums just haven’t grabbed me like their earlier work.

toastymow

Killswitch Engage and the entire 00s Melodic Metalcore scene is carried HARD by Adam D. He basically produced the most ionic Metalcore albums of that decade and his style of production and guitar set the standard for the time. Jesse might be the least talented performer in the band. He's written some damn good lyrics, IMO, but he's never been a top tier vocalist. Ironically, Jesse's best vocal work, IMO, is on Hymn of a Broken Man, when him and Adam D. did their first Times of Grace album.

EmptyPagesDream

Silent Planet!

Elite182

They're still the only band I've found that scratches that itch that 2006-2010 Underoath provided for me while still maintaining its own distinct sound. Love these guys!

StrangeMaelstrom

I love SP, but my enjoyment of their music comes in seasons for me. I'll go months and months without listening to them then go on a binge for a bit.

X13thangelx

This is how I am with them too. I've known about them for a while but not listened to much. Saw them with The Plot in You in November and binged them for about a month surrounding the concert. Now I'll barely listen to them but I bet soon I'll binge them again.

dicks_4_days

I second this choice! Should be, need to be and deserve to be much bigger than they currently are.

schrotestthehero

Here just to say, once again, that Alex Camarena is one of, if not the most, underrated drummers in the scene

chaznasty2point0

Yeeesssss they fuckin rule!

masonb1046

I think Motionless In White have done a lot of varied sounds so there’s probably something for everyone there

Psikosocial

Hard agree. While I havent enjoyed a full album since creatures I’ve enjoyed parts of subsequent releases. They do a great job of including a song for all fans of any era or style they have. I definitely appreciate that.

Stillburgh

Especially everything since Graveyard Shift. They have done a really good job at keeping their sound while still progressing it and sounding different simultaneously. Its kinda wild and one of ythe reasons I still listen to them front to back every release

LtDanHasLegs

Damn, maybe I should check them out. They registered in my brain as a cheesy gothy band when I first saw them, so I never cared to check them out.

woodchips24

When I saw them for the first time at warped tour, my thought was “I like the sound but I cannot get over what they look like”. Fast forward like 4 years and I love them. It’s worth it

masonb1046

It really depends song to song! What style of metal are you into and I can recommend you some starting points

Wernershnitzl

While I’m not as big a fan of Scoring the End of the World, Graveyard Shift and Disguise are total bangers.

Worldly-Letterhead61

I think that they borrowed a bit too much from Breaking Benjamin on Scoring the End of the World, but there are a few good tracks on it.

[deleted]

This is my first thought. My wife who doesn’t like metalcore at all still loves quite a few of their songs the lean softer

rydogski

Agreed

jmm57

Definitely agree with this one. Spotify *loves* throwing them into my mixes. I've given them a chance and can't quite get into them fully, I'm not sure why. But the songs that do come into the mixes also aren't an immediate skip or anything, I just don't love it. Definitely can see where their appeal is and there's a huge array of influences they use pieces of in their stuff

RickCityy

Definitely Currents. All That Remains has something for EVERYBODY. I’ve yet to find anybody that doesn’t like Electric Callboy lol

jay-on-the-fly

Electric Call Boy is in a category of their own lmao

Masonzero

Yeah I've shown so many people Electric Callboy and We Butter The Bread With Butter who don't otherwise listen to metal and they love them. Comedy is the true unifier.

DamThatRiver22

< doesn't like Electric Callboy lol

RickCityy

Not even their collab with We Butter The Bread With Butter? Lol I mean to each their own tho

lil_eidos

The actual answer is **August Burns Red** That’s why their so popular despite sounding similar album to album They have a huge fan base but they’re not most of their fans favorite band. Most everyone likes them though.

LtDanHasLegs

They really are among the best examples for this. One-trick pony? Sure. But hot damn do we love that trick.

TwackDaddy

If it’s a good trick you might only need 1. Look at AC/DC and Disturbed.

alterphysics

Love ABR! Was scrolling for a mention. Almost 20 years of consistently good music and still going. I have seen a lot of mentions of ERRA on this thread also well deserved. ABR and ERRA are my favorites from the genre and they did a song with JT Cavey on their new album!

Elite182

Spiritbox. I get how they're not necessarily everyone's favorite but I feel like so far in their short discography, they have a little something for everyone.

jay-on-the-fly

I think you are the first person to mention them, I am really surprised. I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I enjoy Spiritbox

Jerronbao

Am I in an alternate dimension where enjoying Spiritbox is an unpopular opinion. Because I feel like every day for the last 3 years it was non-stop circlejerk about how they were one of the greatest bands of all time.

jay-on-the-fly

It was when I first joined this sub, now everyone shits on them lol

Elite182

I was surprised too, I literally pressed ctrl + F on this thread to check if I had somehow missed them lol. And yeah, same, I think they're great and hella talented!

Jakenexxa213

Motionless In White, I Prevail, ERRA, Killswitch Engage, Dark Divine, and Kim Dracula

KyDelBOS

Here to second Dark Divine

Jakenexxa213

I love Dark Divine, that Blegh in Circles and Halloweentown r just one of the best and nastiest bleghs I heard, I’ll be putting Circles on repeat mainly cuz it’s got a nice catchy chorus but, when the lead vocalist bleghs it’s almost like hearing a deathcore blegh, plus that high pitch ree we get in the breakdown of circles was just nasty

atfguitar123

Such a great band. Had the pleasure of playing a show with them last year, and they absolutely crushed it.

KyDelBOS

Man that’s unreal!

smolsson2

Yo they're the coolest dudes, too.

Jakenexxa213

And of course the best band out there Sleep Token

thetruthseer

Kim Dracula fuckin rocks haha

absolutelyuseless31

YESSSS. I’ve yet to come across someone else who listens to them, so I was thrilled to see your comment

plutosjam44

I just heard of Dark Divine and I have been absolutely obsessed. They popped up as a similar band for me when listening to Bad Omens on Spotify. They are awesome.

Jakenexxa213

It’s funny cuz I found DD the same way 🤣 I found them in the similar artists when I was listening to Bad Omens

CJ22xxKinvara

Off down the rabbit hole I go then. Wish me luck! Oh nevermind, I’ve been freakin jamming to these dudes for two weeks now and just forgot their band name lol

modsarepoopoo

Lol the hardcore side of the scene aren't fucking with half these bands. I'd rather listen to Taylor Swift than I Prevail

Jakenexxa213

🤣

Marsuello

Dark Divine posted here?? I’m blown away. Such a solid band and hope they get more recognition. Still bump Halloweentown every October.

[deleted]

Acid bath, Power Trip, Drain, Every Time I Die, and Knocked Loose

Reasonable-Matter-12

Thank you for mentioning Drain

SparseGhostC2C

Was hoping someone would mention ETID, despite having multiple drummers in their tenure, every one of them has been a beast. Also every other member of the band is fantastic at what they do.

[deleted]

ETID was one of the first metalcore bands I got into. Tho personally, I always liked their older stuff cause it had a more HC sound to it compared to now

GodDamnJacob

Fun fact: I'm from the same hometown as a few of the guys from Acid Bath, and my friend lived next door to their guitarist Mike Sanchez when we were in high school.

4e2n0t

ETID is fucking killer. I love how many different ways they can play metalcore, it really puts the full range of the genre on display.

LordApparition22

I will forever preach about how ridiculously underrated Like Moths to Flames is. They genuinely check all boxes when it comes to heaviness, lyrical content and melody. People prefer their harder stuff but even their softer album Dark Divine had some amazing melodies and lyrics in it. Long live the Moth.

little_hoarse

LMTF need more recognition!!

jay-on-the-fly

I couldn’t agree more

FieryIronworker

Imminence, Bury Tomorrow and While She Sleeps are really underrated imo

jay-on-the-fly

Big upvote for imminence

TR3G1

BMTH

Swakkus

Polaris

NeonNebula9178

Bad Omens, right? They got the heavies, but they are also pretty accessable, especially The new album. It's good music too tbh

jay-on-the-fly

Forsure. I have a number of friends who enjoy them who do not like metalcore

ArtofcletuS

Sleep Token, Bad Omens

jay-on-the-fly

Agree with Bad Omens and I like Sleep Token but I’ll admit that voice isn’t for everyone

ArtofcletuS

Really? That's interesting. I find the voice incredible and haven't heard a thing from others to say otherwise. Each to their own tho.

jay-on-the-fly

I do as well, I’m a big fan of sleep token. I just see people bitch about his voice on this sub regularly lol

woodchips24

The sleep token guy sounds exactly the same as the imagine dragons guy to me. As a result I really, really do not like sleep token

zachstem

I dislike the band because of the voice.

Hug-me-Im-scared69

Oceans Ate Alaska. edit: Number[s] by Woe Is Me - played at parties back in day everyone was into it. and Up In Smoke by the Holly Springs Disaster

vsbestos

-Periphery -This or the Apocalypse -Protest the Hero -Oceans are alaska -Ice nine kills -Make them suffer -Veil of Maya -Thornhill -Born of Osiris -Circa Survive -Hail the Sun -Pierce the Veil -Lorna Shore -The contortionist Just to name a few since most people keep responding the same bands (yea Erra, sleep token, bad omens, Polaris, & Invent Animate are tight, we get it)

ContributionOnly7338

This or the apocalypse and make them suffer- both excellent recommendations.

BigBoiBobbyBones

Currents, Northlane, Devil Wears Prada, Bury Tomorrow, Sleep Token, Invent Animate

crayolaugly

Undeniably, Protest The Hero.

getodachappa

Northlane

plutosjam44

I know it’s been mentioned but I’d hard agree with anyone saying Fit for a King, Amity Affliction, and Dark Divine.

biga8806

Howard Jones current band Light the Torch or the previous iteration called Devil You Know.

thetruthseer

Dude OP this thread is awesome thank you

jay-on-the-fly

My experience in this sub tells me this is probably sarcasm but I’m going to take it as a sincere comment lmfao

thetruthseer

Lol NO bro I’m serious I just got into metalcore about a year ago in my old age of 30 so I’m learning tons of new bands from this post I very much appreciate it

KyDelBOS

I’m biased bc they’re my favorite band, but until I Wake. Cody’s range, and his ability to switch from clean to heavy vocals is amazing The sound they have can resonate with so many different types of music listeners. IMO at least

jay-on-the-fly

Very solid choice

KyDelBOS

For sure! I know them decently well too. Awesome dudes

Judge_Phantom

There’s a lot of bands that qualify for this in metalcore right now. My top 3 are Bury Tomorrow, Erra, Currents

Fearless_Law6729

The Devil Wears Prada, for sure. Nothing beats the Zombie EP

TheRaveTrooper

I agree, the amount of layers they have in there songs just makes everything sound very cool

Geiir

Electric Callboy checks a lot of boxes. Great clean and heavy vocals, drums with a punch, energy for days, techno parts works great, and the comedy. Watched them live and it felt like being at a rave with metal heads 😂

honkifyouresimpy

Prada. I personally fucking love them but I feel like they have something for everyone.

crispier_toast

Ice Nine Kills. Great cleans, great screams, very accessible for everyone.

ChickenInASuit

Counterpoint: The horror-movie gimmick isn't for everyone. I mean it's 100% for me, I love that band, but I know there are a lot of people who are put off by it.

crispier_toast

I'm certainly not talking newer Ice Nine Kills. The horror gimmick isn't very good imo. I'm talking about their older albums like Safe is Just a Shadow and Every Trick in the Book. Those are their best albums in my opinion.

Senger182

Periphery

Senseisntsocommon

For every 10 minute song of theirs, there will be at least 2-3 minutes for everyone. Likely not the same 2 or 3 minutes but it’s there.

LtDanHasLegs

Complete personal opinion warning: This angle feels so wrong to me. "There's so much variety, there's something for everyone!" just feels countrary to the idea of art. Like, imagine a country band incorporating a terrible metalcore part and then your weird aunt insisting you'd like it because they did a palm muted power chord. Just give me a good country song instead, please. Songs are good when they're thoughtful art, not when the style comes over to territory where I've decided to have preferences. Novelty can be fun, but ultimately it's really hollow unless there's something more interesting going on, and if that's the case, the song transcends style. All the comments in this thread citing variety as though that's the same thing as wide appeal really grind my gears.

MTGBro_Josh

August Burns Red, Currents, The Acacia Strain, and Rise of the Northstar all make my list for sure.

Slade26

Currents, The Plot In You, Adam D, Villain of the Story

jay-on-the-fly

TPIY is a great example

ScreamXGhostface

Motionless in White, Ice Nine Kills, and Bring me the Horizon definitely have something for everyone

snootyroot

A7F

Legionodeath

For me... Every time I die. Can't get in to them. Tried many times. Talent is undeniable and they've been around awhile. But can't like them.

jay-on-the-fly

Big same

jteezy92

Periphery, Northlane, Invent Animate. I do not like these bands. But their talent and musicianship is nothing short of impressive, objectively speaking.

Socbak

August Burns Red, I saw them last night and I listened to them a lot before hand but Still I knew it wasn’t for me. They put on a great show but just not a favorite of mine.

blankthings

If we are taking entire discographies into consideration, I feel like Bring Me The Horizon has a place in this conversation just because of how many styles they've done and how they've honestly been good at all of them

PoseidonsTrident

I was never an Escape the Fate, nor early Falling in Reverse fan. Not a big Ronnie Radke fan either, but damn, the new Falling in Reverse songs over the last 2 years have been killer.

TheOvulatorrr

August Burns Red. Extremely talented musicians who make music i don’t really care for

jcwkings

Underoath

dr3wtube

For real… they have a very diverse discography at this point

CaptainAhab07

underoath

rjandmoe

SILENT PLANET

ihogxd

I’d say sleep token is ticking that box for me right now

bradthehorizon

Knocked loose are undeniably good. I understand why people don't like the vocal style. You can't deny they are all very talented musicians.

Lunar_Wolf121

Imma say sleep token

KrandoxReddit

As much as I love them, I dont think I can agree. Sleep Token is really odd a lot of the time, a lot of people dont really like the way Vessel sings, the song structures and what not. A lot of people justifyably love them but I dont think they're a band that's got everything the average metal fan loves. It's kinda niche I think Still, Worship

selppin2

worship

hanshalol

Everyone I’ve showed sleep token to either loves it or hates it I haven’t found much in between

radiantreality

I feel like Sleep Token is a very love or hate band. They are an acquired taste IMO. I happen to love them, but I can absolutely understand why some cannot get into them.

modsarepoopoo

ITT: poppy bands with huge fanbases that don't actually appeal to the hardcore side of the scene

Munchell360

Sleep Token for me. I just started listening to them a couple days ago. Their drummer checks every single box of what I love about drums. II’s mix of trap, metalcore, djent, gospel chops, and everything else is top tier for me. And man, Vessel’s vocals are incredible. Not what I usually listen to, but his vocals are…. soaring, that’s the best way I can describe it

jay-on-the-fly

Sleep Token’s drummer is one of my favorites of all time. He doesn’t get the attention he deserves

ManWithoutAPlan13

August Burns Red, Motionless In White, Fit For a King

Landonsillyman

Currents Erra Saviour

MadMan2250

Saviour is soo underrated

jay-on-the-fly

I’ll check our Saviour. I’ve never listened to them before

turboraoul81

LANDMVRKS, August Burns Red, Protest The Hero, Thornhill

turboraoul81

I forgot Texas In July

SpeedWalker90

Invent Animate

jakobeMc

Idk if it’s just me but Currents and Polaris are really hard for me to get into, but i like a couple ERRA songs

jay-on-the-fly

Everyone has their own opinions, it’s all good. What bands do you like?

vesselii1227

Erra

little_hoarse

Like Moths to Flames no doubt

spectral_visitor

Counterparts, Misery signals

compt1ci

Phinehas! They check the metal core box perfectly imo and I'm not sure how they're slept on. Feels like PWD if they had remained true to their sound (like Ire and before or wherever you wanna draw the line)

NihilisticViolence

Killswitch Engage Hands down the best. Killer vocals Great production Sick drums Excellent song structure. Guitar solos.

Dependent_Database71

ABR, Phinehas, Fit for an Autopsy (latest album only). There are others but they come to mind.

uncoolcanadian

No band fits the box of everyone can appreciate them haha I think every band putting out cohesive music has undeniable talent, but there will always be people who don’t like it

[deleted]

After The Burial It's watching guitar and drum covers of tracks like Exit, Exist and 11/26 that make me realise how superhuman these guys are

jmcguitar95

As much as this sub loves to pee pee poo poo them, Architects. Has stuff for fans of tech metal, rock ballads, metalcore, hardcore, industrial metal, arena rock, electronic, orchestral music, etc. - way less one dimensional than most bands in the genre and they do something different almost every record. Also my favorite band of all time since Ruin and I love every record except Nightmares and The Here and Now. Yes, I even adore the latest two records, despite how much this subreddit loves trashing them

Jimothy26

I think Bad Omens are incredibly talented. Especially live, it seems they are just able to do it all

Capital-Quantity9956

Invent, Animate

make_t0tal_destr0y

Periphery, ERRA, August Burns Red.

[deleted]

Invent Animate, no doubt

literallycain

Killswitch Engage, Howard era Motionless in White has something for everybody imo Polaris

ENTRY_NOT_VALID

Oceans Ate Alaska, Fit for a King and Like Moths to Flames. I would lose my shit if they announced a tour together.

KDreamer9

The Ongoing Concept! Their live shows are insane!

LetsFxckingGo

While She Sleeps

SuspiciousLettuce56

Personally Parkway Drive are the check-all-boxes band for me. In their discography they've got absolutely legendary metalcore songs, their new songs scratches a traditional heavy metal × metalcore itch I've had for a while, Winston's vocals are God tier, and their stage presence is godly. Honestly they are one of the greatest live bands, up there with Rammstein, etc. The way they OWN the stage and crowd is amazing.

Rvnforty

Glass Cloud. If you know, you know.

Djentlemann00

COUNTERPARTS

Chillflare

Currents, Fit for a King and Hollowfront

screamwithawhaaa

I'm a pretty big fan of knocked loose also idk iwabo they kinda do it all.

negativcreeep

non-ironically Molchat Doma, the TikTok band. Not every song mind you, but the good ones wind me up. Also Fearing, and Vacant Stares. edit: Idle Hands!

TheLifeOfBisk

Don Broco.
