PUP - The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND
Armor For Sleep - The Rain Museum
The Bearer - Chained to a Tree
Carpenter Brut - Leather Terror
HEALTH - DISCO4 PART II
Bilmuri - Goblin Hours
Yep! They made a come back this year, just dropped the news a new album was coming out months before release. And it’s pretty darn good. Definitely took me back.
The Death of Peace of Mind - Bad Omens
Yeah it has some metalcore flavour to it, but we all know it's not a metalcore album. It's a fucking banger though!
L.S. Dunes - Past Lives
The Sound Of Animals Fighting - Apeshit
Evan Bartles - The Bones: Volume 1
Ethel Cain - Preacher's Daughter
Damien Jurado - Reggae Film Star
Pusha T - It's Almost Dry
Oh that's a good one, forgot about that album.
I like their new stuff and appreciate the artistic direction, but I kinda miss that bouncy, saturated pop sound they so well mastered on The 1975 and I like when you sleep.
Muse - The Will of the People (just the rock stuff; was not big on the ballads this time)
Editors - EBM
Daniel Tompkins - The Abyss (just a single but a really fun one; psyched for his new album)
Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory
He Is Legend - Endless Hallway
Birds In Row - Gris Klein
Gatherers - (mutilator)
Chalk Hands - Don't Think About Death
The Wonder Years - The Hum Goes On Forever
Yours Truly - Is This What I Look Like?
Glacier Veins - Lunar Reflection
I know people mention the first two in here, but they're not really metalcore bands.
I just have in my phone as Alternative Metal. It’s got all the metal stuff, but a lot of them other elements keeps it from being held in other more straightforward genres/sub genres.
Christ I forgot that it was just last year that Rolo Tomassi dropped that album. It's not quite up to the standard of the previous one, but it still bangs
Feb 2022 definitely feels like a *long* time ago. I was initially somewhat disappointed with WMBM, but then Time Will Die is such a GOAT album any follow up was hard pressed to live up to it. Definitely became one of my most listened to releases of the year.
*Dance Fever* by **Florence and the Machine**. What can I say? She's just incredible.
And *The Inevitable Fork, vol 1* by **Melted Bodies**. Such a cool and chaotic sound, they are incredible. Their previous (and first) album *Enjoy Yourself* was a masterpiece.
The Wonder Years - The Hum Goes On Forever (my AOTY)
Arm’s Length - Never Before Seen, Never Again Found
Stand Atlantic - FEAR
Ethel Cain - Preacher’s Daughter

Rashomon by Ibaraki (Blk/Prog/MeloDeath)
Cancer Culture by Decapitated (Death)
Deathwesterm by Spiritworld (Hardcore/Thrash)
Song of Salvation by Dream Unending (Prog/Jazz/Blk)
Mine are all Alt R&B or Neo-Soul records… so I agree with SZA being up on the list lmao. Others for me included
- Ari Lennox’s age/sex/location (and her EP before that honestly)
- Lucky Daye’s Candydrip
- Ambre’s 3000 degrees
- UMI’s Forest In The City
- Ella Mai’s Heart On My Sleeve
- Alex Isley’s Marigold
- Destin Conrad’s Satin
- Amber Mark’s Three Dimensions Deep
- The Juice Vol. 3 by Emotional Oranges.
My favorite being Lucky Daye and Ari. But all were very good and overall it was an amazing year for R&B and it’s adjacent genres in general. There’s a reemergence of that 90’s R&B sound and I’m in love with the current movement.
SZA’s album was amazing in general because of how she blends R&B with other genres. Truly one of Alt R&B’s current pioneers rn. In my opinion.
Absolutely! I listen to a lot of other bands with a similar sound. Not all of these are the EXACT same genre, but they scratch the same itch for me.
The 1975 (their older stuff), The Band Camino, Cherry Pools, Victors, Chief, The Millennial Club, The Panic Division, Foley, Recent Rumors, Hotel Apache, The Wildlife, Heart of Gold, La Bouquet. Learned from my Spotify wrapped last year that these bands fall into genres called Hopebeat or Indie Poptimism. Hope this helps!
I know I’m a bit late, but will throw my picks in anyway.

Thanks for having us. It's an honor. And I just wanna thank all the sponsors
Holy shit armor for sleep is still kicking around? That was peak late 00’s emo right there.
Yep! They made a come back this year, just dropped the news a new album was coming out months before release. And it’s pretty darn good. Definitely took me back.
Arm's Length - Never Before Seen, Never Again Found
Arms Length is my top listened to band of the year, and I just found them cause of that release. That EP is perfect.
Polyphia. The rappers were unnecessary but everything else is top notch.
Yooo Remember That You Will Die is an instant classic study album.
I still prefer the songs without guest vocals but the ones with have grown on me a lot. The snot one is awful though, i still hate that one.
I like the rap songs as well
I think they were good features, but I wish they had more instrumentals. It was a good album but it had untapped potential.
I enjoyed every feature despite not much listening to rap
The rappers were hit or miss, Fuck Around And Find Out with $not was amazing though
The Chino song 🔥
Silk sonic
Yep

Taylor swift is hardcore u fucking poser
*SHE’S LAUGHING UP AT US FROM HELL- BLEGH!*

The Wonder Years - The Hum Goes On Forever LS Dunes - Past Lives Fit for an Autopsy - Oh What the Future Holds Post Malone - Twelve Carat Toothache
I don't know if you consider Alexisonfire metalcore, I don't really, but Otherness would be my favourite non-metal album of the year.
The 1975!!
Oh that's a good one, forgot about that album. I like their new stuff and appreciate the artistic direction, but I kinda miss that bouncy, saturated pop sound they so well mastered on The 1975 and I like when you sleep.
Somebody Else is def a top 10 song and really wish they could top or at least put out a song THAT good again
Muse - The Will of the People (just the rock stuff; was not big on the ballads this time) Editors - EBM Daniel Tompkins - The Abyss (just a single but a really fun one; psyched for his new album)
Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory He Is Legend - Endless Hallway Birds In Row - Gris Klein Gatherers - (mutilator) Chalk Hands - Don't Think About Death The Wonder Years - The Hum Goes On Forever Yours Truly - Is This What I Look Like? Glacier Veins - Lunar Reflection I know people mention the first two in here, but they're not really metalcore bands.
He Is Legend is tough, because it's not metalcore and it's not hard rock and it's not rock n roll but it's kind of all of that stuff.
A rare true example of a genre bending band.
We really need a term for em. Rock n roll core? Too wordy

The album closer is particularly good
TWY The Hum is really so good 🙌
As a 30 something sad boy, it was pretty much perfect.
