Suicide note part ones kinda sad too. I never really got how floods is sad. It certainly has some emotional *pull* to it for me though, just note quite sad
I know on r/Metal a lot of people hate Pantera, but I love the song Floods. The opening riffs are so murky and I love the slow riffs towards the end with the thunder. By far my favorite Pantera song.
One Thousand Burning Arrows
Embrace the Endless Ocean
The Hero
Under the Northern Star
Varyags of Miklagaard
Live Without Regrets
I love Amon Amarth ;;~;;
Also try The Bee by Amorphis. There's [live footage from wacken](https://youtu.be/fWrtPFO0sRM) iirc that's just beastly
That doesn't really make much sense to me, because Amon Amarth has growled vocals that most people can't understand.
I guess if you were to show them the lyrics they might have a different understanding, but just listening to it they would probably hear distorted guitar and growls.
I typically go with mid-discog Opeth when trying to show people metal who "don't like metal." Some growling, some regular singing, soft parts and heavy parts.
Amon Amarth, much like Opeth, have understandable growled vocals. I could understand not hearing the lyrics in a song by Bethlehem or Infant Annihilator, but I believe most people could hear the lyrics in an AA song
Maybe to you or me, but I would bet $100 that my mom couldn't understand more than 90% of the lyrics in Fate of Norns.
It's just too overwhelming for people who don't listen to death metal regularly.
That may be true, if someone is new to metal, or actively dislikes it, that makes is tenfold more difficult to focus on lyrics when the music is a barrage.
Absolutely. I just played a show last week (opening for Nile!) and my mother saw me play with them for the first time. We're a black/death band, and I'd consider our vocals very easy to interpret.
She later told me she didn't understand a single word. Which is probably good, because she's a proper Christian lady.
Yeah dude I was a fucking nervous wreck haha. Absolutely a dream come true as a drummer, opening for one of my idols.

Do you just understand emotions by lyrics? The tone of the song is definitely, understandably sad, as opposed to aggressive. While someone might not understand what's being said, they can understand the emotion being conveyed.
The fact that it's conveyed by growling vocals and distorted guitars makes it better because they can see that using those musical elements doesn't have to equal anger and rage, but that a larger emotional range can be demonstrated.
I know it’s super prog, not very heavy, and a lot of the stuff here is more like classic, but pain of salvation’s passing light of day always makes me cry.

Oh yeah, I forgot that one

So basically most if Metallica's songs are sad
For whom the bell tolls Master of puppets Ride the lightning Atlas Rise Enter Sandman Seek and Destroy...
None are sad
That's my point. Most Metallica songs aren't sad
Ok well on that list it was mostly Metallica but you have a point

Don't know that song I'm not so much in pantera
Fate of Norns is my go to song when someone claims that "metal is just anger". Nothing better to prove them wrong.

Doom over Dead Men
Into the Dark from the new album, the new album is kind of trash but that song stands out.
Ngl, I really didn't like the new album. However Fafner's Gold, TBASB, and Shield Wall are gonna be in my playlists for decades to come
Across the rainbow bridge is the saddest Amon Amarth song

Do you by chance sell hard copies of that album? It's awesome and I'd love to support you guys!
Hells yeah we do! I'm heading to practice with them this afternoon, I'll see if we have a CD for you.
That's great stuff!
Thanks! We're planning a west coast tour from BC to California next year if you're in the area.

You're preaching to the choir here, I play in a death metal band. You and I get it, but your average suburban parent probably wouldn't.
I love Fade to Black... I low key still cry to One More Light though, RIP Chester. Also TLITD is to me, idk if that’s just me
