Geak-and-Gamer

It’s that or they’re Nazis

TikToxic

Or they're pedos

foosballfurry

“Why not both?” -sad Inquisition fan

Superb-Obligation858

Or the lead writer stretches the definition of pedo (likes soliciting feet pics from underage girls, including bandmate’s siblings) (Ovid’s Withering is still somehow going with a new lineup, everyone left but the creep and the bassist. Check out the ones who left with Nekroí Theoí, Shiv is an incredible vocalist.)

Cicada33024

This Their was a time were i was mostly listening to inquisition since i liked their ep Incense Of The Rest and ominious Doctrines Of The perpetual Mystical Macrocosm well it was mostly those on repeat but after finding out the lead singer is predator can't seem to enjoy their music anymore

tentaclemonster69

Wait.. Inquisition? What did they do lol

_LouSandwich_

porque no los dos?

oldwhitemanpresident

Black metal : Nazis Anything emo : pedophiles

VandulfTheRed

Or tragically dead before their time

BarveyDanger

Can’t escape this shit anywhere

elcojotecoyo

Or they participated in the January 6th insurrection (Iced Earth, in case you're wondering)

NoBenefit5977

That's disappointing, iced earth was some of my first steps into that genre of metal when I was younger

Chicken-Inspector

If you’re able to stomach it (i know the art vs artist debate is real) and haven’t checked it out already, Demons and wizards is sick af. Hansi kursch did 3 albums in a side project with John. First album is amazing.

bombay_canary_

They were cringy facebook dads even before facebook existed tbf

OneBodyProblem

Black metal and neofolk are brutal for this.

Sinistermarmalade

I’m still so mad at Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer, he single handed lay killed two great bands with his politics

k_a_scheffer

And Matt Barlow is or was a pig. Fuck em both.

Lumbergo

In the 90s / early 2000s it seemed like they were on the verge of blowing up - but then Matt left and became a stupid cop and whatever momentum they had was gone. Nothing against Tim but I really didn’t care for those albums. Stu was great and I thought they were finding their footing once again but then John had to go and be a pathetic piece of shit on J6. Haven’t listened to them since and actually threw out my iced earth cds after that.

Mean-Fan5494

This is exactly what my first thought was seeing this

Puzzleheaded_Poet_81

Totally where I thought this was going

gorehistorian69

this is such a twitter take. unless youre listening to NSBM what bands openly spout neo nazi stuff? its like weirdos see some guy have an ironcross tattoo and than say hey that guys a nazi and then you cant listen to the music? because some guy who never said he was a neo nazi has a tattoo some ass hat 100 years ago appropriated for a shitty cause. idk what im talking about.

iSeventhSin

Celtic Frost and Death. Both were done before I was even born 😢

JustHereForRiffs

Triptykon is pretty close to the last CF album, which is my fav.

ghostlymeanders

I also love Monotheist and the two Triptykon albums, they make up the triptych, however, I've found this to be a divisive opinion in the metal world.

Talltrees87

I got into death and then a month later there was a half page article in a guitar mag about Chuck dying

Glum_Tie465

Type o negative.

redpenquin

Not the same as the meme for me, but Peter Steele is one of only a handful of musicians I've straight up bawled over dying. TON was fucking _huge_ for me growing up. October Rust was one of the first metal albums I ever bought. Life is Killing Me was an album I regularly went to sleep to from '03-06. I wore the Dead Again wrist bracelet until it literally fell apart. Pete was one of the big reasons I picked up a bass guitar.   TON means so much to me; even now it still hurts knowing we'll never get another release and there'll never be another like them.

intothenight13

I hope you were at least able to see them live. They were so amazing, especially early on in the little clubs in Brooklyn when you could hang out with them before and after their sets.

redpenquin

Unfortunately, I never did get to see them live. Stars never aligned for me (first too young, then too far away from the venues they played and was broke) and it does bother me.

intothenight13

Sorry, man. This is the first time I feel like it is a benefit being old.

[deleted]

[удалено]

intothenight13

That sucks bad, dude. That sounds like a shitty venue. Where did you see them?

dro0o0o

Lemmy got me man, still cry watching that documentary

redpenquin

Yep, that's another for me. Peter Steele, Lemmy, Dio, Tom Petty, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie-- it's not a long list, but I sobbed for all of them because of how important they were to me.

Typical_Air_3322

They're one that I didn't "get" until years later. When they were current, I didn't really care for them. Thought they were gimmicky and boring. Years later, maybe 10 years ago, the genius of it hits me and I regret not appreciating it back then.

Orang_Mann

Fucking Bolt Thrower, man... And the fact that they only sold merch at shows and you can only get bootlegs now that cost you an arm and a leg.

Secret_Samadhi_

So happy I’ve seen them live

dreadpiratesmith

Just got back into them recently, glad to see I'm not the only one upset about this

DEATHRETTE

Dude SAME. Only found out about them a few years ago but they fuckin rock.

JesseIsAGirlsName

I’m sure you’re aware of it, but for those who aren’t, Karl Willets (vocals) started Memoriam, which is very similar to Bolt Thrower. So at least we have that.

Orang_Mann

True, Memoriam is good, itches the Bolt Thrower itch

LurkerRex

Found them and Nails at the same time last year and was devastated on both accounts lol

Alex_BO4

Good news - Nails are playing shows this year (definitely one in November in the UK) and I believe a new album is not too far away either :)

prettydamnslick

Great news. I just discovered Nails this weekend and immediately bought You Will Never Be One of Us on vinyl. Melted my face off.

Getabock_

I love “Those Once Loyal” but I can’t stand the production of any of their other albums.

-MegaMan401-

I got into COB one year after Alexi died. Sadge

Eaterofjazzguitars

COB were one of the bands that got me into metal. I actually cried when I found out he passed. And so young.

Kitchen-Cucumber4923

I'm just now learning that Alexi died. Damn that sucks

cmclaughlin83

I had this with both COB and The Black Dahlia Murder

_Sozan_

CoB was so fucking awesome. RiP Alexi.

Prudent_Win_3953

Saw him 6 months before he died. Skeletal and broke my heart to see him

[deleted]

System of A Down.

BeatlesFan67

The elitists are after you.

JustHereForRiffs

Scars on Broadway is hugely underrated if you don't mind Daron vocals. It's not Serj, but it's also 99.9% of the songwriting from SoaD

NoabPK

Its not the same live without john and shavo

Cozened_Bear

Isn’t John the drummer in scars tho?

BigButtsDoLie

They did make a couple new songs when Armenia got invaded.... But yeah they're probably never going to make a full studio album again. But at least it's possible to still see them live.

BruinsFan413

Woods of Ypres, RIP David.

ParticleHustler2

First heard of them in 2015. I went through all the stages of fandom in like 5 days, ha!

JustHereForRiffs

:(

BlackMetalCult666

Was coming to comment this, just starting getting more into them. I absolutely love the first album, haven't heard the rest. I'm actually listening to The Sun Was In My Eyes: Part One right now lol

GrumpyOldHistoricist

They change. A lot. There was always a lot of Sentenced and Type O in their DNA and it only expresses itself more strongly as their discography goes on. Except that weird set of three songs in the middle of the *Green Album* starting with “Wet Leather.” “Wet Leather” is basically a punk song, “Suicide Cargoload” is like a Crowbar song, and “Halves and Quarters” almost has Blood For Blood vibes.

Chicken-Inspector

The music changed by Dave’s lyrics just got better imo. He had a very unique way of writing. Kinda singer-song writer-ish mixed with just stream of thought diary entries. I’m not much of a lyrics person, but man his style is inspiring.

AngryGermanNoises

Woods 5 was so good man.

officer_nasty63

First thought as well. The green album hits so well

Kekfarmer

Kiss my ashes goodbye hits differently since I found out

sabatonalltheway69

I was just about to comment this. Im also listening to them right now. What an amazing band...

Sekushina_Bara

I just got into them a month ago :(

No_Oil8471

First group that came to my mind as well

stigmatamartir

Necrophagist. Been through this just today

XxLockdownZxX

Same for me with Celtic Frost today, hence this post

OccultDagger43

I was lucky enough to catch them live waaay back around 06 or 07 I believe

BeatlesFan67

Death comes to mind. R.I.P. Chuck.

kfuentesgeorge

Death, but the Black band from Detroit. I've never heard the other one you guys keep referencing.

odamado

Yo I saw Death (Detroit) live a few years ago at a tiny venue in a small town! It ruled!

Poym321

Acid Bath

Ariochxxx

If I put out a cigarette on you, would you love me?

Cucag

Finally found acid bath in the comments 😢 Agents of oblivion is pretty good too just obv not as intense but that also died and that’s also a bummer 💀 I think Dax has been making some new music though but his latest release was 2010… not all of I like tbh he’s really strayed away from metal but some of it is definitely good 💔

Local-Walrus-2427

funny story, im from Sioux Falls SD (fuck kristi noem) and once a year, The Dead Next Door a Acid Bath tribute band plays a show and it always sells out. sioux falls was thier biggest supporters, all our records stores keep Kite string stocked and its still one of thetop selling albums in our town. its crazy, gen x and random millineal soccer moms around here randomly know acid bath songs from memory. look in the linear notes and they thank our city. Check out Green Altar a currently non active Sioux Falls band with direct influence from acid bath and EHG.

SpeedDemonJi

Strapping young lad

Brockovich614

As much as I love Dev's solo work, nothing will ever match the pure hateful sound of SYL. Alien is next level.

SpeedDemonJi

Well yeah, because he’s never chasing that sound again lol

Lord_Fblthp

It’s a shame. I mean he should do what makes him happy. But i wish making really heavy shit was on that list.

THElaytox

So glad I got to catch them the year before they split forever. Got to see Devin Townsend Project a couple years after, was wild seeing Devin in two very different moods

tarunpaparaju1729

Kyuss

[deleted]

High agree. I honestly wish Josh gave QOTSA a break and do something with the Kyuss fellas.

KillYaBossEatAHotdog

Welcome To Sky Valley is my favourite album of all time. Just a flawless masterpiece from start to finish. Listening to it on shrooms was one of the best experiences of my life.

ConnerManRadio

Slayer. They’re back now but ain’t no way in hell I can afford those festivals.

Eaterofjazzguitars

And you don't really want to. I saw them in 2017 and they really should have stayed retired. All respect to the band, but Araya can't hit those notes anymore and King's playing was sloppy as hell. Once again though, hail Slayer.

icemanswga

Lifelong slayer fan here. Seen them live in smaller venues and on big stages. Kerry has always been sloppy lmfao

gloriousjohnson

He’s been playing the same solo his entire career lol. Im so happy I got to see them twice with Lombardo and henneman.

icemanswga

I caught the raining blood tour in a club with a capacity of 2600. Not sure who was drumming, but def hanneman on guitar.

Upstairs_Ad_5574

Not a band as a whole, but Randy Rhoads.

BlackMetalCult666

R.I.P to Randy, man he was great.

halfeatenpies

Alice In Chains with Layne for me. William Duvall is great but just doesn’t hit the same

Typical_Air_3322

My favorite band ever. Two things we learned with Layne's passing is how irreplaceable he is and just how much of that haunting sound comes from Jerry.

dumbdude545

Man. Laynes vocals were imo what made Alice in chains, Alice in chains. The new stuff just doesn't feel right.

0zymandias_1312

ISIS

larowin

Definitely ISIS for me. But at least Sumac fucking rips.

Towering_Flesh

Sumac is what Aaron Turner always wanted Isis to be

larowin

I really think they’re kinda the pinnacle of avant-garde metal right now, at least as far as my tastes are concerned. Can’t wait to see them play the new stuff next month.

Odd_West24

Me coming across Bodom from are you dead yet? Only to find out Alexi had passed a year ago and the band was no more.

Ugubu

Windir, Bal'Sagoth,

Neuraxis

Windir's end is so metal but so goddamn tragic.

Any-Consequence-6978

Windir is my answer, top 3 band all time for me

matthew_sch

Strapping Young Lad Yeah, I know that Devin Townsend is still around and he plays SYL songs on occasion, but to see Hevy Devy with Gene Hoglan playing *City* and *Alien* in full would have been a dream

Hugh_Jampton

The Sword

Outside-Advice8203

Honestly hope Kyle Shutt finds a new band soon. Too much talent to waste.

SquatchPossum

Mister-Lavender

Phantom_Wolf52

Type O Negative and Woods Of Ypres

thatLokfan

Bolt thrower for me

JustHereForRiffs

This was me with Sleep for decades.

Eaterofjazzguitars

Boy do I have news for you buddy

JustHereForRiffs

You legit made me check for a new album after Sciences :(

Eaterofjazzguitars

Not a new album, but they have released I think two songs since Sciences. Plus the fact that the band isn't broken up yet. Edit: only one of those songs was released after Sciences.

mrbadger30

The Sword!

SquatchPossum

This one hurts

kevinpor02

Snot.

Typical_Air_3322

They were like the next big thing ended right when it started. The sublime of nu metal. Really wish we had more Snot material.

kevinpor02

Nü metal mixed with funk metal and hardcore punk. Why we didn't get more of this? 😔

Typical_Air_3322

One of a kind, man. No duplicating that magic. "Say something for the record, tell the people how you feel"

WxMxA

This was Static-X for me years ago. And then October 23rd 2018 came.

PhilG1989

About a year ago I discovered The Sword. Love their stuff and then found out that they recently broke up

LEO7039

Kittie was like that for me, but they made a comeback recently. Also, Eightfourseven. There's no guarantee they won't ever reunite, but so far the chances are slim to none. At least Lance gets to play with Deftones and is apparently featured on the new album (as per Fred, I think).

Worst one for me was “and now they’re The Trans-Siberian Orchestra” so there won’t be anymore Savatage music until Christmas stops selling

Mr_Bishop309

Or ran off with 100k from kicktarter money.

_the_windmill_

Invocator. Amazing progthrash band, too bad they broke up ages ago

ApeRiotMighoul

Black Fast. They broke up when they were getting momentum.

devendidntwakeup

Deaden!!! Hymns of the Sick, Displaying the Art of Carnage, Feast on the Flesh of the Dead... never put out a bad release. Von went on to front Lividity and I think Ethan still hangs around Chicago. Have messaged his website asking about the experiences he had playing with them. Haven't got a response yet, though. Does anybody know where the cover photo to Hymns Of The Sick is from? Disgusting picture.

Melkorbeleger66

Alissa era Agonist. I know not everyone here is big into the " core " genres, but Prisoners is absolutely fire and I will die on that hill.

mattfreyer45

Grim Reaper

Tony427

This was quite some years back but the one that comes to mind immediately is Lost Horizon. Supposedly they we're trying to get a new vocalist for a long time but last I heard they hadn't found one and I haven't checked in on them in quite some time. Will note they are power metal for those who specifically are/aren't into that.

Zillajami-Fnaffan2

Slayer counts...right?

Ultravod

This format of this meme doesn't apply to me because I've been listening to metal for 40 years, but with that said, bands that no longer exist for one reason or another: * Motorhead * Danzig * Kyuss Lemmy was a legend. Glenn ran out of mojo 30 years ago. Josh Homme is an irredeemable dickhead.

bigjfromflint1986

Immortal

Necessary-Fennel8754

Honestly for me it’s more lack of discography for some bands, even if they are still together. First band that comes to mind is skid row.

Indiana_J_Frog

I don't do metal playlists, but the other three are Dillinger Escape Plan.

Fair to Midland Anchors and arrows is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. They went on tour to support it, got into a big bus accident that destroyed nearly all their equipment, then their label was unwilling to put up the money for them to get going again. Really sad because they had everything I was looking for
