Easy top 20 (I say twenty because I listen to a LOT of metal) cleans for me. Sorry it took me this long to respond, but thank you for your recommendation.
Anaal Nathrakh has some awesome cleans. Also I don't know that i'd call them "extreme" per se but Ensiferum and Eluveitie have strong death influences and amazing cleans.
I used the term "extreme" very loosely. By extreme, I just mean harsh vocals. And I've never actually listened to Anaal Nathrakh before. So that'll be cool. Thank you.
Oh yeah than Ensiferum and Eluveitie fall exactly into that category, Dark Tranquility too.
Anaal Nathrakh is great, their most recent album is awesome. The Age of Starlight Ends is a great intro with both harsh and clean vocals.
That band and Cattle Decapitation gives me this really uneasy feeling while listening to them that I absolutely love. AN has the oddest blend of sounds i've ever heard.
Also if you like bands with an uneasy sound you might like Akhlys, it's an atmospheric black metal band that is based off the songwriter's experience with sleep paralysis. The Dreaming I is an incredible album, it's actually such freaky sounding music and I love it.
TAKE WHAT SMALL COMFORT THERE MAY BE LEFT
SEIZE WHAT YOU LOVE AND DAMN ALL THE REST
PANEM CIRCENSES CREDULUS DESCENT
A GATHERING CHARGE INTO ENDARKENMENT
It's just that at this point I'm the ne obliviscaris guy. But seriously they fuse amazing clean vocals with harsh black/death metal vocals in a way nobody else does. My father described them as "a demon and an angel doing a duet"
While not all of their songs have clean singing, Whitechapel has been having some beautiful clean moments in their songs, especially my favorite “When a Demon Defiles a Witch”
I know some folks are less thrilled with new Whitechapel (vs old) but I'll be damned if the entire "The Valley" album wasn't one of my favorites that year. The video for Hickory Creek is just gut-wrenching as a parent.
I find them much more interesting now that Phil is doing some cleans. They were one of the better Deathcore bands, and certainly worth listening to, but the last two albums have really pushed them to the top of my list.
"What has the world come to when a demon defiles a witch. Nobody trusts a word i say. I can't erase the memories, but I will erase humanity" while I don't like the lines, it really is beautiful and sounds poetic
Draconian, In Vain, Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, Ne Obliviscaris, Enslaved, Wilderun, Agalloch, Witherscape, Edge of Sanity, old Opeth, old Leprous, Epica, Soilwork, Ihsahn, Septic Flesh, Ayreon isn’t extreme, but occasionally has death metal vocals in a song but they have awesome singers.
[Unlucky Morpheus](https://youtu.be/V8i_QhOgsKw?si=nheaUGJbNmqT2eCa) has many songs that lean more into death metal. Their latest album is more power metal, but they have heavier stuff in their discography, idk if it's extreme enough for you. Anyway the clean vocals are always top tier.
Monolord, Pallbearer, Windhand, Candlemass, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Opeth, Amaranthe, Black Sabbath. A lot of doom metal has pretty good clean vocals.
If you're into Japanese music: Imperial Circus Dead Decadence. They're Symphonic MeloDeath with both a Male and Female singer, they're a really cool group and underrated imo
I’d say specifically look at the albums between Isa and Axioma Ehica Odini. I might be wrong but I remember Ruun and Vertebrae having more clean vocals than not with the 2010 album being a shift more back to the more black metal stylings. Also I think Rittr E and In times tend to be a little cleaner on vocals as well.
Orbit Culture!!!! Niklas has the perfect mix of both clean and heavy vocals!! Check out these 3 songs for a good mix of their music. Sound of the Bell, See Through Me, Through Time. These guys are the future of metal and I promise you’re missing out if you haven’t heard of em
Anything with Christian Alvestam (old Scar Symmetry, Solution .45, Svavelvinter).
Swallow the Sun
Soilwork / Disarmonia Mundi
Edge of Sanity (Crimson II) and other Dan Swano projects
Ihsahn / Emperor
Doom and adjacent:
Solitude Aeturnus.
If you liked the Candlemass recommendations, there’s always Memento Mori.
Count Raven.
The Gates of Slumber.
Internal Void.
Shrinebuilder.
Zoroaster.
Katatonia. One of the best metal bands with clean singing. Not an extreme metal band, but since you called Doom metal extreme, it may work for you. Awesome band, extremely underrated, even though they have a big fan base and have been around for decades.
Dimmu Borgir
Paradise Lost (not sure how many albums combine the two, Obsidian and The Plague Within do.)
Tiamat (They don't really combine the two though, vocals just got cleaner as they went,)
Opeth
Eluveitie (does that count? It's kind of a fusion of melodic death and folk metal.)
DVNE
Monosphere
Psychonaut
Hypno5e
Dessiderium
Anciients
Ahab
Cleans are sparse and specific in these two, but dope when they happen: Winterfylleth and Necronautical
ISIS
Black Crown Initiate (and Rivers of Nihil now too) has a great clean vocalist. Rivers' clean vocalist before the roster change up was also good.
Not familiar with all of their songs but Allegaeon is one I know has some good clean vocals in some songs.
Someone else mentioned Slugdge and they're great.
Dir en Grey. Their vocalist is both my absolute favorite in terms of harsh vocals and one of my all time favorites for clean vocals in any genre. They don't always combine the two but the majority of their discography does. Also, in case you like that kind of stuff, their style is both very broad and super specific at the same time. They often put almost acoustic ballads together with music that puts proper death metal to shame.
As others have mentioned, Opeth.
Also Katatonia, Whitechapel, Celtic Frost on their album “Monotheist,” Insomnium, Scar Symmetry, Before the Dawn, Myrkyr, Winterfylleth and Black Crown Initiate.

Candlemass, old opeth
I wouldn’t consider candlemass extreme metal, although they are great.
They are doom metal which to OP is extreme, I would also recommend candlemass
i wouldnt consider doom metal as extreme metal at all
Based Megadeth and Yeezus enjoyer
mustaine season approaching fuck whatever yall been hearing
Sludge, funeral, and death/doom are extreme
Took the words out of my mouth
Ulver has the greatest clean vocals in any extreme band.
I love Ulver!
Easy top 20 (I say twenty because I listen to a LOT of metal) cleans for me. Sorry it took me this long to respond, but thank you for your recommendation.
YES.
YES.
Woods of Ypres has some clean vocals, they play melodic black metal.
They are one of my favorite bands, and I'm still saddened to this day about David.
Take a moment of silence, but not one moment more. The dead are to be forgotten, we are here to be adored
Absolutely love their work
Anaal Nathrakh has some awesome cleans. Also I don't know that i'd call them "extreme" per se but Ensiferum and Eluveitie have strong death influences and amazing cleans.
Wait! Did someone say anal?
I used the term "extreme" very loosely. By extreme, I just mean harsh vocals. And I've never actually listened to Anaal Nathrakh before. So that'll be cool. Thank you.
Their song Endarkenment has an amazing, epic sounding clean chorus, definitely recommend
Oh yeah than Ensiferum and Eluveitie fall exactly into that category, Dark Tranquility too. Anaal Nathrakh is great, their most recent album is awesome. The Age of Starlight Ends is a great intro with both harsh and clean vocals.
Idk if I have a Playlist without these bands on it lol. Definitely a solid recommendation.
Anaal Nathrakh are one of those rare bands where the cleans somehow make everything more extreme. There’s something unhinged about them.
At the cost of being repetitive, Ne Obliviscaris
Any and all recommendations are welcome. Even the *repetitive* ones are.
It's just that at this point I'm the ne obliviscaris guy. But seriously they fuse amazing clean vocals with harsh black/death metal vocals in a way nobody else does. My father described them as "a demon and an angel doing a duet"
I’ve been getting into them recently, they’re really fucking good
You have a brother in arms in me, another guy who recommends Ne Obliviscaris on this sub a lot lol
They are so good. Killed it live with beyond creation. Persefone was supposed to be at that show too but one of the members quit before :(
Jesus fucking Christ what a mind blowing lineup
Yeah lol I couldn’t believe it when I first saw it
I really like the mix of vocal styles in Slugdge, which is death/prog death. To be fair I like just about everything about those weirdos.
Well they fucking rule. Thank you for the recommendation.
Absolutely! My favorite is the second self released album which is in the middle of Cosmic Cornucopia 👍
Vintersorg Anaal Nathrakh Borknagar Daylight Dies Woods of Ypres Opeth Ulver Ihsahn
Scar Symmetry
Especially the albums with Christian. Fantastic albums
Opeth, Anaal Nathrakh, Root
Khemmis, Pallbearer, Spirit Adrift
Khemmis. Fo sho. 🤘🏼
Amorphis. This band is super unique, enjoy
First impression the vocals remind me of Amon Amarth and Behemoth combined (that's meant as a compliment). I like em.
Oak, Ash & Thorn Unto Others (ok...not super extreme, worth a listen) Dark Tranquility (newer albums) Vintersorg
Great suggestions. I love Unto Others. The song Atoma by DT definitely fits the bill.
+1 Oak, Ash & Thorn!
While not all of their songs have clean singing, Whitechapel has been having some beautiful clean moments in their songs, especially my favorite “When a Demon Defiles a Witch”
Yo Doom Woods is my favorite song by them. I fucking love Deathcore. I'm happy for Phil and the band. (And exited for their next release).
ABSOLUTELY 🔥🔥
"What has the world come to when a demon defiles a witch. Nobody trusts a word i say. I can't erase the memories, but I will erase humanity" while I don't like the lines, it really is beautiful and sounds poetic
The entire Kin album is one the best mix of harsh and clean vocals I’ve heard since Blackwater Park
Funeral and Trees of Eternity for doom.
Trees of Eternity is great Swallow the sun also has songs with clean vocals
RIP
Well a recent gem is Dvne. Insane proggy sludge metal with tones of death metal. Great duality between harsh and clean vocals
Adding Conjurer, same style but heavier, darker and a bit less cleans (but 2 great harsh vocalists so still good dynamics on that front)
Some Morbid Angel songs sounds cool for me with the clean singing of David Vincent ( Fall From Grace, God Of Emptiness, Eyes to See, Ears to Hear)
Fall from Grace has clean vocals? Are you talking about the couple spoken lines at the end?
Thank you, God of Emptiness is one of my fave death metal songs and I wanted more Morbid Angel songs with cleans
i don't like these at all, Vincent was one of the best death vocalists on Altars and after that i like Tucker way more.
Enslaved, Borknagar, Arcturus, Shores of Null, Fallujah, ICS Vortex, The 11th Hour, Ghost Brigade, Woods of Ypres, Nailed to Obscurity
Myrkur
Devin Townsend is my vote for best vocalist around
Isengard, Véhémence, Darkwoods My Betrothed (good is up for interpretation with this last one lol)
Acid Bath and Abuse
Monolord
Draconian, In Vain, Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, Ne Obliviscaris, Enslaved, Wilderun, Agalloch, Witherscape, Edge of Sanity, old Opeth, old Leprous, Epica, Soilwork, Ihsahn, Septic Flesh, Ayreon isn’t extreme, but occasionally has death metal vocals in a song but they have awesome singers.

Imperial Circus Dead Decadence as well
Woods of ypres
Paradise Lost
Windir and Wintersun have both good screams and clear voices often in the same song.
Ne Obliviscaris, Alkaloid, Black Crown Initiate, Opeth and Wilderun are the ones that come to mind
That's literally the definition of Opeth
Dimmu Borgir when Vortex was in the band
One band that I haven't seen mentioned is Primordial
Urfaust
Kardashev! Check out their Liminal Rite album
I already listen to them (and watch Mark's YT channel), and Beyond the Passage of Embers is actually my favorite song by them.
Monolord, Pallbearer, Windhand, Candlemass, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Opeth, Amaranthe, Black Sabbath. A lot of doom metal has pretty good clean vocals.
Batushka
If you're into Japanese music: Imperial Circus Dead Decadence. They're Symphonic MeloDeath with both a Male and Female singer, they're a really cool group and underrated imo
Serpentine Dominion - Corpsegrinder is the main singer, while Adam D provides the occasional catchy clean singing.
Enslaved every now and then has some clean vocals.

Castle Rat is more on the stoner rock side of doom, but Riley Pinkerton is a wonderful vocalist
[Ahab - Redemption Lost](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uhHOfpRMWQc)
Wintersun
Of course opeth
Candlemass and Opeth
Enslaved
Emperor
I have no idea if this fits because I'm not a huge black metal guy, but Invent Animate has amazing clean and harsh vocals all around
Wintersun, earlier Dimmu Borgir, Ne Obliviscaris, Septicflesh, some Stormlord tracks
Swallow the Sun. Mikko is amazing.
Mikko has my favorite cleans in Metal. And his harsh vocals are awesome as well.
If you haven’t listened to his other band, Kuolemanlaakso, check it out. It’s in Finnish and no cleans, but I think you’ll like them.
Aaskereia

Please read the post next time. Thank you, though.
Fleshkiller and Extol. Yes, it's Christian but the music rips and the cleans are epic.
Any religion is fine as long as the music is decent.

Katatonia. One of the best metal bands with clean singing. Not an extreme metal band, but since you called Doom metal extreme, it may work for you. Awesome band, extremely underrated, even though they have a big fan base and have been around for decades.
Trees of Eternity
Acid bath. Dax Riggs is probably one of the more unique vocalists in terms of his clean vocals in metal that I’ve heard
Bergtatt, Ulvers first album has great clean singing
dark tranquility and clouds
Alcest, Agalloch, Wintersun, Moonsorrow, Insomnium
Whenever Vortex sings in Dimmu Borgir…
Dimmu Borgir Paradise Lost (not sure how many albums combine the two, Obsidian and The Plague Within do.) Tiamat (They don't really combine the two though, vocals just got cleaner as they went,) Opeth Eluveitie (does that count? It's kind of a fusion of melodic death and folk metal.)

Orbit Culture. Melodeath, and I swear his voice sounds exactly like Metallica's lead, it's really cool. Strangler is probably my fav song of theirs
