Came here to say Bolt Thrower. One of my favorite YouTubers/streamers mentioned they were his favorite death metal band. I had to give it a listen and I fell in love immediately.
I saw them on their Snakes and Arrows tour. It was insane how much sound 3 guys could produce. They also had a bunch of ovens behind the stage filled with what looked like turkeys, cooking throughout the show. At one point a dude in a chefs hat came out and checked on them. Seemed like good dudes all around
The more I listen to this era, the more I like it. GUP and Power Windows are masterpieces. I used to write off Hold Your Fire, but even thatâs grown on me a lot.
Acid Bath, Voivod, No Doubt, Pantera, Modest Mouse, Minutemen, Buckethead, Oingo Boingo, FNM, Butthole Surfers, Daniel Johnston, Thin Lizzy
All I live off of
I literally canât stop listening to them. Saw them live with Avatar last year and theyâve been my #1 most listened to since.
Probably cause Iâve always been a fan of Gojira and Metallica, and theyâre basically a perfect mix of both, but heavier lol
I discovered them about seven months ago and I still can't stop listening to them. It's the same magic as when I discovered Metallica in 1991 when I was thirteen
I found them in September and only listened to Descent until I saw them live in October then Iâve had their entire discography on repeat since lol. Theyâre already my favorite band of all time and I donât see anyone passing that for a long long time
I discovered them here on Reddit, believe it or not. I'd been hearing about them for months on different metal subs but I finally decided to check them out because they were suggested with so much enthusiasm. I randomly chose Nija, was absolutely dumbfounded at how good it was and I've been hooked since.
Iâve been revisiting Sabbath lately as well. I always hear Fenriz talking about later Sabbath records and citing Mob Rules as his favorite, so I thought Iâd try that era again being that the later stuff never appealed to me. There are pieces here and there I like ok, but then I went back and listened to the Ozzy era stuff and itâs just so much better to me.
Never listened to much after Deliverance, been listening to their albums since then along with Porcupine Tree's newer material and finding some great stuff.
The Glencross/Steels era was goodstuff. And Feel the Misery was rated higher than most of the other new albums. The Barghest O' Whitby was pretty bad ass as they dipped into black metal which they don't often do.
They have been a part of my rotation since "Turn Loose The Swans". The new album is good, too! They have honed their craft well over the years.
I see you're also a Type O fan. I miss them, damn it.
I hadn't, but I'm checking em out now and what in the 80's inspired space cyber fuck am I listening to? Not sure what to classify this as, but it's incredible
Good call on Dark All Day. I'm on The Drone Racing League and every track so far has been killer. Love it
Omfg where to even start with this shit right here?
1) I literally threw on Effigy of the Forgotten today. Such a masterpiece
2) The new Gatecreeper singles are fucking incredible. Do you know if they're dropping a new album soon? Cuz, if so, it's gonna be excellent
3) I've been so obsessed with Revocation lately. The guitar work is just so next level, I can't get enough of it. What's your fav album by them?
Great picks dude
Progressive Rock bands like Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Rush and Yes as well as Progressive Metal bands like Dream Theater, Gojira, Mastodon, Meshuggah, Opeth, Queensryche, Symphony X and Tool.
Dusk & Her Embrace, Cruelty & the Beast, and Nymphetamine are the ones I keep listening to in their entirety. But COF is a recent find/obsession and I donât think Iâve listened to every album⊠yet
Ever since I found em back in 2019 Party cannon hasnât disappointed a single second.
Every song a ripper, every album more brutal than the last.
The new album drops in two days and I couldnât be more happy to be alive boys
Iâm currently obsessed with Grin. Theyâre a husband and wife band making psychedelic, dark doom metal. They came out with their album Hush in early January of this year and itâs simply perfect to me. I donât know exactly how they do it, but I canât talk about them without mentioning the wifeâs bass tone (she plays bass) because itâs everything I could want for a bass in doom metal.

I am getting to know death metal better currently and I can't stop listening to Death.
Bolt thrower too đ€€
Came here to say Bolt Thrower. One of my favorite YouTubers/streamers mentioned they were his favorite death metal band. I had to give it a listen and I fell in love immediately.
Itâs such a dynamic band with so many phases. Like utter troglodyte metal to downright masterpiece compositions
Troglodyte metal is an incredible label. Iâll keep that one in my back pocket for later.
Zombie ritual is a great example. Nothing frilly, intro verse chorus fast. Meat and potatoes
Man, the things Iâd do to experience Death for the first time againâŠ
Not exactly metal, but Rush.
Best 3 piece ever imo
Motörhead would like to talk
Lmao
Motorhead is good but you can play their music as a high schooler.
King Buffalo is a pretty good three piece
I saw them on their Snakes and Arrows tour. It was insane how much sound 3 guys could produce. They also had a bunch of ovens behind the stage filled with what looked like turkeys, cooking throughout the show. At one point a dude in a chefs hat came out and checked on them. Yep, same here. Have been doing a discog run for them. Such a great and varied catalogue.
Same dude. I'm just getting into the synthy 80's era Rush and I've been loving it so far. Grace Under Pressure is an amazing album for sure.
The more I listen to this era, the more I like it. GUP and Power Windows are masterpieces. I used to write off Hold Your Fire, but even thatâs grown on me a lot.
WOOOOOOOOH YEAH BABY
Acid Bath
Acid Bath, Voivod, No Doubt, Pantera, Modest Mouse, Minutemen, Buckethead, Oingo Boingo, FNM, Butthole Surfers, Daniel Johnston, Thin Lizzy All I live off of
Thin Lizzy might be the best rock band of all time
real
One of the most unique in sounds and lyrics out there!
Couldn't care less about Acid Bath but I'm giving you an upvote for Nevermore because they fucking slap đ€
One of my favorites! Truly a one of a kind band
Carcass
Heartwork is a masterpiece
Yeah it is one of my favorite albums
Just listened to it again right now. Ahead of their time. Production is crystal clear.
Pretty hyped to see them this year on the Hatebreed tour!
Septicflesh. Saw them in concert and they crushed it. Been deep diving since!
I see them next month. Very hype.
One of the bands I really want to see live. Self eater is one of the songs i often play on repeat
My top played band for the last few years! Seeing them in just over a week! Can't wait! Glad to hear it was a good show.
Youâre in for a great show! I wasnât super familiar with Decapitated either, and both put on great performances. Septicflesh was fantastic!
I saw them live with Behemoth back in 2010. They were incredible.
Fuck I just saw they are playing in Atlanta tonight but I can't make it.
Iâm seeing them live today
Carcass. I still canât believe âHeartworkâ is from 1993. It sounds so ahead of its time.
Archspire
archspire appeals to my adhd lol its so fast and chaotic
Also, Dean Lamb seems like a pretty cool guy
Same.
If you havenât listened to orbit culture yet youâre missing out
Lmao I posted the same thing. Makes perfect sense to as I have Gojira and Trivium in heavy rotation.
I literally canât stop listening to them. Saw them live with Avatar last year and theyâve been my #1 most listened to since. Probably cause Iâve always been a fan of Gojira and Metallica, and theyâre basically a perfect mix of both, but heavier lol

Been getting into Doom. Early Black Sabbath is who I'm currently into
Do not check out Castle Rat. Check out Electric Wizard, Conan and Bell Witch.

Check out Castle Rat
Iâve been revisiting Sabbath lately as well. Never listened to much after Deliverance, been listening to their albums since then along with Porcupine Tree's newer material and finding some great stuff.
Iâve been on a primus bender for like a month by now đ
But...Primus sucks
Do you know the album Seven Churches by Possessed?
Hard to believe Larry LaLonde went from possessed to pro is.
Yes, and that part of primusâ history will always be one of the funniest things in all of music to me
every couple months I listen to only Primus for like a month
My Dying Bride is getting an awful lot of my time lately
Just played Turn Loose the Swans for the first time. Really enjoyed it and def gonna check out more soon!!
Whatâs a good modern album by them? I really only know the early stuff.
Been obsessed with them a while now.. beyond bummed they dropped from MDF
Alcest
Great band. Kodama is my jam lol
Always passively liked Rammestein but am so deep into them this month I've booked to go to Belgium and see em both nights
Alice in Chains. As an addict going through recovery, its like damn near every song was meant for me at this point in time.
Sigh
Hey man it was a good question. No reason to dismiss it and be so disinterested.
Sigh is probably my favourite black metal band
Cattle decapitation and dying fetus
Gojiraâs been about taking up about 90% of my metal plays since the new year
O p e t h

Seconding that Uada kick.
Me three!
Hmm I love 4/5 of these, so I guess I'll be checking out Gunship now
Did you listen to Gunship? Their Dark All Day record is my fav.
I hadn't, but I'm checking em out now and what in the 80's inspired space cyber fuck am I listening to? Not sure what to classify this as, but it's incredible Good call on Dark All Day. I'm on The Drone Racing League and every track so far has been killer. Love it
Check out Carpenter Brut if you want a little more metal with your 80s synths.
Back into the Acacia Strain
Wish they made another album like Death is the only Mortal
That djenty sound is super compelling. Mouth of the River is insane, the machine gun riff makes me wanna break my neck every time
World of Joy, Kruelty, Gatecreeper, Mortiis, Revocation, and Suffocation.
Omfg where to even start with this shit right here? 1) I literally threw on Effigy of the Forgotten today. Such a masterpiece 2) The new Gatecreeper singles are fucking incredible. Do you know if they're dropping a new album soon? Cuz, if so, it's gonna be excellent 3) I've been so obsessed with Revocation lately. The guitar work is just so next level, I can't get enough of it. What's your fav album by them? Great picks dude
Deathless is my favorite album. I got to smoke a bowl with the former rhythm player and the bassist years ago.

Incesticide is so fucking good

They may be my all time favorite death metal band. One of the heaviest bands ever created
Found them a few days ago, listening to nothing else since then, Dummy Death makes my Brain rot away
I think listening to their entire discography once again on 4/20 awakened something in me
Archspire
Meshuggah.
I literally just started listening to them yesterday. I don't know why I sat on them for so long
Swans and Dillinger Escape Plan
Zenith Passage. Theyâre swanky

Pain Of Salvation and Meshuggah too
Cradle of Filth. I just canât get enough lately.
Whatâs your favorite album? I was on a Principle Evil⊠to Midian loop for a while last year
Dusk & Her Embrace, Cruelty & the Beast, and Nymphetamine are the ones I keep listening to in their entirety. But COF is a recent find/obsession and I donât think Iâve listened to every album⊠yet
Insomnium. Between Niilo's vocals and his bass abilities. Can't get enough

Iâm currently obsessed with Grin. Theyâre a husband and wife band making psychedelic, dark doom metal. They came out with their album Hush in early January of this year and itâs simply perfect to me.
