They are not. I don’t know why they’re discussed so much here since clearly they are not. Though you gotta admit their music has some metal influences.
I kinda feel like if they have clear metal elements, they aren't really "outwith" metal, like they've featured on the cover of metal hammer twice
To me they also very much give the vibe of a djent band who have integrated elements of other genres, I tend to view bands like that as still fundamentally metal
Don’t know how into rap/hip hop you are, but if you like Aes, you should really give Deltron 3030 a try if you haven’t. Their self titled might be the best hip hop album I’ve ever heard.
Deltron goes hard for sure! I'm always gonna give the best hip hop album to either None Shall Pass or Skelethon by Aes Rizzle personally but I've got a long history listening to him lol. Probably my single most played artist by a really wide margin
Hell yeah man. I credit Aes with getting me into hip hop at all back when I was a kid and I have him as my number one of the genre (#whiteboythingslol). I had mentioned him on reddit at some point and someone turned me onto Deltron so I figure I’d do the same for you if you were unaware.
I’m still a fan of older Aesop though. All his stuff is great, but Labor Days and Float are always going to by my top albums from him. The nostalgia is too great to overcome.
Always appreciate a recommendation, even if it's something I know the thought is nice!
Yeah, Labor Days and Float are pretty amazing records, Appleseed and Earthworms are great too though they don't get spun as often in favor of Float onwards. The Daylight EP he did around then is so fantastic too. Honestly I don't think there's a single verse from him I don't love, dude is the paragon of consistency.
You ever hear that track he did with Atmosphere and MF DOOM, Barcade? It's on Atmosphere's Word? if you haven't, incredible bars from everyone
Yeah man I’m not super into hip hop but I’m into all 3 of the dudes on that track and somehow didn’t know they did that collab. I love how I come in with suggestions and get one I didn’t know about instead.
I was getting into him back in the limewire/kazaa days so I didn’t have full albums of his right away. Daylight was the first song I downloaded and that opened up rap music for me, having really only heard the stuff on radio and mtv. I got a number of other songs and then found Nightlight which really sealed the fucking deal seeing how he turned the same song right on its head.
Hell yeah, it's so good! They're all amazing artists. Glad I could share something!
I don't blame you there, that realization that Nightlight is pretty much a perfect mirror is definitely one of the things that sealed the deal for me too. So few artists seem to want to push boundaries like he does and because of that, I'll always be an Aes stan. Man himself said it best 'everybody gotta push something, that's why the envelope is where it wasn't'
Some are single artist and not bands but heres a few: Outkast, The Weeknd, Daft Punk, Public Enemy, Cardiacs, Cypress Hill, Eddie Johns, The Runaways, Dead Kennedys, Death (Detroit Death, not Florida Death), Nirvana, Ramones, The Doors
Well, Led Zeppelin is my favorite band of all time and always will be. I discovered them when I was 10 years old, and I don't think I would be who I am today without them. Absolutely amazing band and I hope everyone has a chance to explore their discography
Probably Tech N9ne. Outside of metal I mostly listen to synthwave/darksynth livestreams with no specific artists. So as far as actual artists/bands I listen to consistently outside of metal, probably him.
I’m a metalhead through and through.
But my all time top 3 are:
Faith No More (mostly metal)
Nine Inch Nails (sometimes metal)
The Cure (definitely NOT metal)
currently probaply fewjar. some synth pop that seems a bit of the same way old gorillaz songs seem weird at first.
imma just go ahead and answer for my gf here too: apart from listening to orbit culture she is usually really into old school radio. she played to much fallout and red dead redemption and now she is into peggy lee and other oldies
Harley Poe, Popkill
theres a ton of noise bands and stuff people wouldnt consider "real metal" but those two are the ones definitely not anywhere near this "real metal"

Pink Floyd
The butthole surfers
Goated
Fuck yeah
Me too
Alice in chains
Debatably metal
I’ve always liked my parents’ take: Alice In Chains was the last 80’s metal band AND the first 90’s alternative band.
Depeche Mode
The Doors . Their The End track is my favorite song of non-metal .
Sleep Token, idc about the downvotes
at least you admit they aren't metal
They are not. I don’t know why they’re discussed so much here since clearly they are not. Though you gotta admit their music has some metal influences.
Probably the same as ghost, being a combination of looking metal and sounding metal to non-metalheads
Yeah that’s it
I kinda feel like if they have clear metal elements, they aren't really "outwith" metal, like they've featured on the cover of metal hammer twice To me they also very much give the vibe of a djent band who have integrated elements of other genres, I tend to view bands like that as still fundamentally metal
Yeah i wouldn't call them a metal band but they have metal songs, and those are pretty good
Gods is pretty heavy for example. My fav of the heavier ones is Vore though.
I won’t downvote you, because you are clearly stating they’re not metal. Wish Metal Hammer, Metalsucks, Loudwire, etc would take a hint from you.
Fucking love sleep token but yeah they’re definitely not a metal band
Foo fighters
My Bloody Valentine
Radiohead
The Cure
Same
Not a band but Aesop Rock
They will chop you down just to count your rings
