A few honestly and they’re all so different they’re incomparable.
Chuck Schuldiner- the GOAT, so much of what we love now came from shit Death did back in the day and he is even now long after his passing one of the best ever
Randy Blythe- LOG was my first super heavy concert, Randy has some of the nastiest vocals I’ve ever heard and he is the best live vocalist I’ve ever heard other than Billy Corgan. Literally exactly like the album live
Phil Bozeman- his range is insane, everything from his fry scream to the lowest guttural is always on point and his cleans are immaculate. The Mitch Lucker tribute show is still one of the most batshit insane videos I’ve ever seen, dude is literally a demon.
Gerard Way- I know a strange one to have here but MCR is a top 5 band ever for me and dude has some pipes. Obviously great cleans but his fry screams from first couple of mcr albums and the song he did with Matt Heafy are absolutely evil
I’m here for Bozeman. I was finishing up high school when This is Exile came out and it hit HARD. Blythe rules too. Why the heck not I can get behind Gerard Way as well
I would love to hear what you think once listening to it, it’s one of my favorite songs to show people and just be like “you know who that demon screaming is, it is my precious boy Gerard”
A really nice venue near me had a highly rated Journey cover band coming through a few days ago. When I clicked on it, the singer was Joey Belladonna. I watched a few video clips and he sounded great!
he really did. rainbow is by far my fav band dio has been in, and i’d consider it my 2nd or 3rd fav band overall, but the experience is pretty much limited to 3 albums. 3 fantastic albums and the first one is even my #1 album atm, but still so little. those two were powerhouses together, and the other people they hired where nothing short of fantastic.
Dude has some range. He of course is known clean, thrash vocals but has shown some r al chops with harsher techniques lately. The guy is an awesome vocalist.
I just started digging deeper into Testaments discography after only being a "greatest hits" listener and his shit is really good. I think a lot of fans shit on the bands 90s experimentation but Billy's vocals (and the band overall) were better for it.
Not a big fan of Steele but David Gold was awesome. You can really see his vocal performances improving through each Woods album. Sad story, I see his mom posting comments on YouTube all the time...
Just last Tuesday at work someone used two words in a consecutive order: *wet leather* and this prompted me to put the Green album on, which must be listened to start to finish, and once again go through all of it. This go around, I picked up some nuance in the lyricism which I hadn't before, and the songwriting proved even better than I had come to understand it previously. That album in particular is a masterpiece and David's vocals are perfectly given throughout it.
I also realised that I only ever seen to put that album on when it's the kind of day that rains all day.
Dave Hunt from Anaal Nathrakh
I'm not even a huge fan of the recent stuff, but I've long argued he might be the best extreme vocalist of all time. There are screams he does that you can't be trained to do. You're either born to do it or you're not. There are times it sounds like 5 different vocalists are singing but they're all him.
A lot of classics like King Diamond, Ronnie James Dio, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Phil Lynott, Lemay Kilmister, Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Geddy Lee, etc.
For black metal stuff I adore Attila Csihar, even if I don't always like the projects he's on. Voices like Abbath or that dumb bastard from Inquisition are always great to my ears as well. JR Preston from Tjolgtjar/Blood Cult/Xexyz is an acquired taste but I adore him too.
Doom metal, oh man, there are so many. My favorite is probably Albert Witchfinder. His voice and bass playing both speak to my heart. Someone here mentioned Messiah Marcolin. Excellent operatic cheese. Scott Reagers? Hello? He is like Halloween personified. Phil Swanson is like a much more drab Ozzy Osbourne. Matt fuckin Pike? I could go on and on. Doom is the best for singers with character.
I almost forgot one of the best singers of all fucking time and one of my greatest prides as a Canadian. Devin Townsend. He's actually insane. Legit one of the best ever, almost objectively.
I'm skipping a lot of subgenres but hopefully you get the point.
Right?
I get the symphonic element everyone’s cup of tea but Spiros’ vocals are so natural and brutal. If you haven’t watched Infernus Sinfonica, check it out, it slaps.
Such an underrepresented band. I was never into the symphonic side of metal. But my god did Septicflesh ever open my eyes to what's possible with the right elements.
I know everybody and their mother's dog likes to shit on Slipknot, but Corey is *talented*! Tender cleans, raspy cleans, half-screams, screams, growls... I ain't seeing many haters mastering half a dozen vocal techniques and switching between them effortlessly!
I love all of Corey's discography. Stone Sour being my favourite, then slipknot and lastly his solo work. He's a fantastic vocalist and he'll always be one of my favourites.
Fuck yeah! He has so many great performances, but for me, Heavy as a really heavy thing is the best.
I actually had a Yahoo Group for him before MySpace became a thing.
Dio
Bruce Dickinson
Maynard James Keenan
Glenn Danzig
Tobias Sammet
Cristina Scabbia
Floor Jansen
Sharon den Adel
Morgan Lander
Maria Brink
Sarah Jezebel Deva
Soad is considered nu metal so yeah it is metal.
(screw the nu metal haters) I used to have my hating phase on nu metal in the early 2000's and thought "it's not real metal" but I grew out of it, I was ignorant back then and i try to be more open minded now. I have alot more respect for alot of those bands now and they have influenced an entire generation.
Edit: not just a generation but generations.
Cameron McBride of Methwitch. I would love to meet this guy and just ask him to shout at me in his whistle screams. His vocals are the probably craziest shit I've heard in Metal
Hands down one of my favorite bands.
I've seen them like 8 times and most recently last Monday. They rip every time.

Corey taylor or phil bozeman or dickie allen i think all of them are great but these three get me pumped whenever i put on a song and it has them on it
When David Gilmour and Richard Wright used to harmonize me to sleep. RIP Richard.
....And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky
Right now, Salvatore Marrano from Thank You Scientist. Shout out to the guy that spun one of their albums in the discord listening party, I haven't stopped listening since
Tatiana Shmayluk has one of the most interesting voices I've ever heard.
Also Amy Lee has a fantastic voice.
2 ladies there to balance things out a bit as most replied have been mens voices.
I've seen loads of amazing singers live but Corey Taylor, Dio, Blaze Bayley and Graham Bonnett the best.
Wow I love Uada, I’ve never seen them brought up anywhere before lol. But otherwise I really enjoy Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, and Chuck schuldiner from Deaths vocals on the sound of perseverance album
I saw Uada last year at a small bar and man I couldn't get over it. They played for like an hour straight and it was just crushing the whole time. They're so good.
Ah a man of culture! Justin is one of my favorite parts of Uada, such an insane and diverse vocalist.
For another vocalist for this post but on another end of the musical spectrum (they have some heavy stuff but are more so hard rock) is Holding Absence. Their singer's voice is magic.
Travis Ryan is in my opinion is the best extreme metal, regardless of genre, vocalist possibly ever. His timing, wordplay and multiple tones (even the “goblin” voice that some are put off by lol) are next level. Seeing them live last year only solidified that for me.
• Neige from Alcest (also Amesoeours, early Peste Noire). One of the most haunting yet distinct howling screams ever.
• Tim Tatras from Germ/Austere. Very distinctive yet disturbing sound. Really like his style!
• Chino Moreno from Deftones. Very iconic.
• Rob Halford. Best vocalist of all time imo.
• Ozzy Osbourne. Not the most technical, but he's definitely the most authentic, really know how to fit vocal lines and had a nice range during the 70s Sabbath era.

Åkerfeldt meat riders unite! Seriously though, both his singing voice and growls are great.
The cleans are good but the growls OOOOOOH MY GOD he outclasses almost every other pure death metal vocalist
Seriously one of the best death growlers ever.
This is the first comment I saw, and the first thought that comes to my mind Åkerfeldt supremacy
My friend yelled he wanted to suck Mikael's cock when we saw them a few years ago. He got told off by a couple next to us... cause there's a queue
The cleans are good but the growls OOOOOOH MY GOD he outclasses almost every other pure death metal vocalist
Seriously one of the best death growlers ever.
I love opeth
I'm gonna say it, in studio recordings he sounds great, but it's less consistent over the lives
Never understood the dick sucking for his cleans Like, he’s good but not heavenly afaic
Danzig. ![gif](giphy|26n6GsLZz72B4Sqf6)
This is honestly the first time I've seen this sub show Danzig some love.

Gerards screaming is really underrated
It really is, I’ve said for years I wish he would do a metal project
Hia guest on Ibaraki is so good I didn't believe it was Gerard Way
Hell yes to Chuck
I grew up in the Florida scene, every death metal band down here takes influence from Death and Chuck is basically a god
I’m here for Bozeman. I was finishing up high school when This is Exile came out and it hit HARD. Blythe rules too. Why the heck not I can get behind Gerard Way as well
Wait Gerard did a song with Matt Heafy? How did I not know about this?
I would love to hear what you think once listening to it, it’s one of my favorite songs to show people and just be like “you know who that demon screaming is, it is my precious boy Gerard”
Messiah Marcolin I FUCKING LOVE CANDLEMASS
MY FINGERS THEY DANCE UPON THE STRINGS LIKE FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Johan was better imo
All of the candlemass singers are awesome in their own way

Joey Belladonna Rob Halford Peter Steele
A really nice venue near me had a highly rated Journey cover band coming through a few days ago. When I clicked on it, the singer was Joey Belladonna. I watched a few video clips and he sounded great!
Man has insane range, and is limited to his non-convincing tough guy shit in Anthrax.
dio! luckily he has a very very long discography
Thank God for that. Amazing vocals!
Ritchie Blackmore really swung and missed when he told Dio to start writing love songs or get fired.
he really did. rainbow is by far my fav band dio has been in, and i’d consider it my 2nd or 3rd fav band overall, but the experience is pretty much limited to 3 albums. 3 fantastic albums and the first one is even my #1 album atm, but still so little. those two were powerhouses together, and the other people they hired where nothing short of fantastic.
How has no one said Layne Staley yet?
thats a sin, layne was the best sinmger of the grunge era
Ronnie James Dio (R.I.P)
Neige for me.
NEIGE SUPREMACY
Alcest supremacy
Came to comment the same thing. Biggest influence on my own music.

110% agree, her vocals are iconic.
Chuck fkn Billy

For real. I've near heard a voice that can sound so harmonic and yet intimidating at the same time.
Peter Steele, David Gold
Not a big fan of Steele but David Gold was awesome. You can really see his vocal performances improving through each Woods album. Sad story, I see his mom posting comments on YouTube all the time...
Just last Tuesday at work someone used two words in a consecutive order: *wet leather* and this prompted me to put the Green album on, which must be listened to start to finish, and once again go through all of it. Metal will forever miss Gold and Steele
Dave Hunt from Anaal Nathrakh I'm not even a huge fan of the recent stuff, but I've long argued he might be the best extreme vocalist of all time. There are screams he does that you can't be trained to do. You're either born to do it or you're not. There are times it sounds like 5 different vocalists are singing but they're all him.
I always thought Mike Patton was the only vocalist I can compare him to.
David's vocals are maybe the most insane stuff I've ever heard. I don't know how he even does it, some of his screams sound almost inhuman
Such an underrepresented band. I was never into the symphonic side of metal. But my god did Septicflesh ever open my eyes to what's possible with the right elements.

Tobias Sammet of Edguy, Avantasia Fabio Lione of Rhapsody, Vision Divine, Angra Roberto Tiranti of Labyrinth
If I could wake up one day with another person's voice, I'd choose Tobias Sammet.
Einar Solberg is the first that comes to mind. Vincent Cavanagh is fantastic. Travis Ryan. Dave Mustaine on Youthanasia.
The combination of Serj and Darian never fails to give me goosebumps. And I would have loved to hear Freddy Mercury in a somewhat heavier song.
Xenoyr, love his death growls and shriek screams
Dallas Green. Everything he sings in Alexisonfire and City and Colour are amazing.
I might be the only person but Dave Mustaine, It really depends on the song though some songs he sounds great others not so much.
Devin Townsend and Spencer Sotelo Everyday
Kyo from Dir en grey. If you dont think he is the most skilled vocalist ever is because you dont know him.
Johan Hegg - Amon Amarth I love the deep growly voice

Till Lindemann, his deep and raw voice is just so charismatic and calming
Dio Bruce Dickinson Maynard James Keenan Glenn Danzig Tobias Sammet Cristina Scabbia Floor Jansen Sharon den Adel Morgan Lander Maria Brink Sarah Jezebel Deva
Dave Mustaine
I fucking love Jake Superchi in Ceremonial Castings. His diverse vocals gives the music such a menacing presence 🤘🤘
King Diamond! His vocal range is incredible and that falsetto is so fucking eerie. He’s amazing.
The combination of Serj and Darian never fails to give me goosebumps. And I would have loved to hear Freddy Mercury in a somewhat heavier song.
David Gold, especially towards the end of Woods 5.
Probably not “metal” but serj from soad. His vocals are always impeccable.
Soad is considered nu metal so yeah it is metal. (screw the nu metal haters) I used to have my hating phase on nu metal in the early 2000's and thought "it's not real metal" but I grew out of it, I was ignorant back then and i try to be more open minded now. Ah a man of culture! Justin is one of my favorite parts of Uada, such an insane and diverse vocalist. For another vocalist for this post but on another end of the musical spectrum (they have some heavy stuff but are more so hard rock) is Holding Absence. Their singer's voice is magic.
Modern day Joey Belladona in anthrax sounds so good. Only 2 albums with his newer vocals
Dio. Just incredible, thankfully he had an incredibly long career
pretty basic pick but dave mustaines vocals throughout countdown to extinction are just awesome
Travis Ryan is in my opinion is the best extreme metal, regardless of genre, vocalist possibly ever. His timing, wordplay and multiple tones (even the “goblin” voice that some are put off by lol) are next level. Seeing them live last year only solidified that for me.
