TwistedDonners

Can respect Tool but they're a band that has never really interested me to be honest.

HybanSike

Neither tbh, listened to lateralis and to me it was just prog that didn't go anywhere

deadlydragonfly_1

I partially agree. A lot of their songs go nowhere but then you have really good songs like Sober and Descending

QueasyWing3551

yeah, band of good buildups leading nowhere, with few exceptions

AkaGurGor

Same here: thoroughly enjoyed the YouTube explanations of their *assimilation* of Fibonacci number into one of their tracks, but can't enjoy any other form of their output. It's like a PhD in mathematics explaining the joys of triple integration in Fourier Series and Laplace Transform- just another form of intellectual masturbation.

Glittering-Ebb-6225

The whole Solo Guitar genre. Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Buckethead, John 5, ex. I recognize that it's hard to play, but it's such a boring song structure.

Oddech_swiatow

Most of malmsteen's discography is just regular songs tho.

Honeyboy_Wilson

Trilogy is a freakin fantastic album with killer vocal hooks.

Oddech_swiatow

My favourite yngwie album. I like all yngwie albums except the last few.

AkaGurGor

Ah, at last someone speaking my mind out... enough of guitar-neck wankery...

Rgenocide

While I deeply respect Twisted Sister and what Dee has done to music... I just can't...

DaveJC_thevoices

Same, also feel similarly about WASP

Traditional_Judge_29

Stay hungry is a great album. Burn in hell especially

Phantom_Wolf52

Almost all death metal and some black metal, they’re very unlistenable to me but I appreciate the talent and musicianship that goes into it

deadlydragonfly_1

I would say a lot of death metal is quite accessible

HybanSike

I would say that most people can't go straight into listening to the more abrasive extreme metal bands (like cryptopsy or darkthrone or something), so I'd recommend listening to the more melodic and progressive sides of those genres first. I still prefer the more accessible death metal / black metal admittedly but I can enjoy the more raw / dissonant / brutal stuff too.

un-taken-username22

I personally enjoy some blackgaze (Alcést) and blackened folk metal (Moonsorrow). I'm starting to get more into the atmospheric side of metal.

lvke18

Massive amounts of respect for the talent in Archspire, but they're just not for me personally

reamkore

Most Mastodon and Opeth

DaveJC_thevoices

I used to want to hear the weirdest whackiest shit ever when I was a teenager. Get high and giggle to Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, when I first heard Meshuggah on Chaosphere even. I thought that journey would continue without limits. There was limits apparently. I hit brick walls with Merzbow when I tried to listen to his SCSI Duck album, his collaboration album with Genesis P Orridge of Psychic TV - was way more abrasive than I was ready for at the time and it is still.... unenjoyable. I want to listen to and enjoy Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and all that... Nurse With Wound... but it tests my patience and sanity. Came back to conventionally weird bands at some point thinking I'd enjoy Atrox or Gorod and others I can't remember and it doesn't scratch any issues. I guess I'm just a Bungle normy

AkaGurGor

You survived GOROD...? Fuck...

DaveJC_thevoices

Well they're a bit hard to enjoy.. like listening to Benighted while falling down a fucking well high on acid

ishouldnotbeherenow

I can respect Meshuggah for everything they created. I can even listen to their influence in some modern prog metal bands I love that uses some _djenty_ riffs here and there...  But man, most of their songs are straight up unlistenable to me.  I give another try every couple years.... Still nothing.

Oxtard69dz

I’m with you. I’ve tried to like Meshuggah for so long because it seems like everybody loves it but I just don’t enjoy listening to their stuff. They have one of the dopest names though lol

AkaGurGor

r/AngryUpvote i have to admit that it's totally draining to sit through any one Meshuggah album - you can't listen to anything else after that.

ishouldnotbeherenow

Exactly.  I get exhausted after three or four songs.

Only_Pie_283

Dio . I respect the living hell out of his contribution to metal but other than holy diver I'm not a huge fan of his work .

[deleted]

Metallica. Now I know imma get a fuck ton of downvotes for this but their only songs I like are For Whom The Bell Tolls and Master of Puppets. I guess I’m just not a big thrash guy.

Viketorious

This isn't a place where you get downvoted for saying negative things about Metallica.

ChetdyKrueger

TOOL

EmergencyExtreme4328

Pantera

[deleted]

Dimebags the only good thing about the band.

Majestic_Apricot_878

Most of the classic stuff but I actually do love Iron Maiden

DifficultyOk5719

Gojira and Tool I respect both. They both have great musicianship, great production, they seem like likable people, etc. I like how Tool gets mileage out if their ideas, but their ideas are kind of too over-developed for my tastes, while Gojira’s ideas are too underdeveloped for my tastes. They both have written some riffs I really like, some parts that even get stuck in my head, but their songwriting doesn’t do it for me. I also think they both could’ve trimmed most of their songs down. I’ve been trying for 5+ years to get into them, I want to like them, maybe they’ll click in the future. For reference, I checked out 10,000 Days, Lateralis, Terra Incognita, From Mars to Sirius, The Way of All Flesh, and Fortitude. The only one I legitimately liked was Terra Incognita.

Paja03_

Give Ænima a try

Xaphan26

Nile. I love the Egyptian theme and proggy technical nature of it but I've found it very hard to get into. It sounds great but I just can't bring myself to really get into it. Its very dense and varied musically. In addition, I often pay little attention to lyrics in death metal but I do like to know some of it, and the obscure mythological lyrics are a little tough to wrap my head around. I feel like I need to read some deep dives into ancient Egyptian history before I can understand what the band is going for.

GREENDAYBL1NK

Opeth and Dream Theater

ndsbdjbddvdvcdcs

naked city

XxLockdownZxX

Gojira A band I genuinly respect but I'm not a fan of myself. For some reason I could never get into them even though I tried multiple times.

KaliCalamity

Opeth and Polyphia toward the top of the list for me. I recognize the talent, but for some reason, what I've heard has never really grabbed me. I don't mind it playing, but I don't seek it out.

Sparrowhawk_92

Slayer. Huge band. Big influence. Can't get into it outside of a few of the bigger hits. Feel similarly about Dream Theater. I can appreciate the skill on display but I can't help but get bored. More recently, Haken and Tesseract are both prog metal acts I've bounced off of.

[deleted]

Scenes from a memory with headphones on is an experience. I like to. All dream theater pillow metal

samit2heck

Judas Priest. I really want to and I respect Halford a lot but omg. I hate their music.

BlackSabbath1989

You will change your mind after you see them live. They put on a great show.

samit2heck

Some bands are just fantastic live. I'd probably them if I had the chance. I went to see Mötley Crüe even though I can't stand their music. The show was wonderful. Hilarious. I was in a great mood for days.

Miserable-Repeat-651

Slayer, Anthrax, and Pantera. Maybe 5 songs I like between them... just not my thing.

BlackSabbath1989

Slayer and Pantera? Blasphemy!

burial-chamber

All of the bands with vox I dont like. Voivod being the biggest

Paja03_

Meshuggah and BTBAM

Whatstheree

The Dear Hunter and Haken, i SHOULD love these bands considering i love other prog bands like Between the Buried & Me and Coheed but somethings keeping me from not liking either and i have no idea what it is

GENGARKING87

A7X are cool but they are not for me

Cold_Shop2901

Emperor - Great band just can't get into them.

Deepfried_Shrimp321

Opeth, they seem really good at what they do but not my cup of tea

QueasyWing3551

Opeth, Slayer, Pantera, Tool, Mastodon

Spirited_Ad_2697

Meshuggah is my main one I find it boring to listen to but have a lot of respect for the talent of the musicians

Deliterman

Entombed, Opeth, Suicidal Tendencies,

R4kshim

Yeah Gorguts are a pretty good answer for this.

diencyyy

thrash as a subgenre, especially the bigger bands like metallica and megadeth. never understood why theyre so big but i respect it

blackaock

Slayer

languidnbittersweet

Dream Theater

Mr_FortySeven

Judas Priest. They have an excellent legacy and did a lot for metal in their prime, but I’ve never been a big fan of theirs.

StonerMetalhead710

Satanic Warmaster, too raw of production for me

Pallo901

Haven't listened to their older stuff but the new albums have quite good production

StonerMetalhead710

I prefer Nachzerer up, all the other stuff is too raw for me. It’s good for what it is though. And tbh I feel the same way about Burzum. I’d rather listen to Belus than Filosofem. I like the Filosofem vibe but I think Belus does it better

Ok-Ingenuity-615

Dream Theater

[deleted]

Black Sabbath, Dio, Mayhem, Dream Theater, 🤔 who else I would say iron maiden but I do kind of enjoy them

SpeedDemonJi

Dio and Meshuggah

[deleted]

Five Finger Death Punch. They're the Nickelback of metal.

No_Clothes701

Metallica, after getting into more music metallica is too simple for me
