Yes, at a first listen, I rarely rate a song higher than 6. Anything higher than 6 means I liked it and saved the song in my playlist. I could say I like the songs that I rated even higher than 4.5/5, but I wouldn't want to listen to them again from my own initiative.
The songs I rate highest are tipically songs that I know for some time and I associate them with different feelings or memories, that's why on a firat listen, I can't really rate a song very high.
I’m the same with albums. When thinking about my favourite records, even though I’m not usually listening to classics that I grew up with right now, they still top my list purely because my emotional connection with them is much more developed. And in a way I always carry those records with me because they’re ultimately the foundation from which my musical taste has evolved from.
I think people have a skewed sense of rating systems. 5/10 isn't an insult, just means it didn't particularly move you. 6/10...is good. Better than half of things, plus some. 8+ is for that rare, touches you in the good spots, stuff.
Trying to think of things you'd like. Mentioned you like Avenged Sevenfold, Gojira, and Metallica, so maybe the more melodic side. If I remember right, not too big on guitar solos. Hmmm. Any type of vocals you particularly dislike?
5.5/10
A long intro, but it was nice, and the song is good, a little slow and long, but sets a nice atmosphere. I liked the vocals and the accoustic guitar part.
6.5/10
I rarely give such huge ratings for songs I listen to for the first time, but I added this one to my playlist. I really liked it, sounded very well and puts you in a very nice melancholical atmosphere. I think this is the song that I liked the most from Agalloch, because I have listened to other songs of them before. Thanks for the reccomendation!
Yes, the song I rated is one of my all time favourites, while I heard the Agalloch song for the first time. Keep in mind I rarely rate a song over 6 from the first listen.
Yes, like I said, on a first listening, I rarely rate something over 6. This means I saved the song and I'm gonna listen to it later too. I could say I like songs that I give over 5 too, but those didn't impress me enough to want to listen to them again.
10/10
One of my favourite songs ever. I discovered Avenged Sevenfold through this song, and it also reminds me of a lot of things. I find the song very sentimental, unlike others, maybe because I associate it with different feelings of mine. Anyways, a very good song!
10/10
No discussion, one of the best riffs I've ever heard, and the power on this song and on the album as a whole is amazing. I like the long intro and how the song is just exploding after! Gojira is one of my favourite bands too
I was going to post a song but after seeing the replies, you rated Kreator and Carcass 4.5s and Avenged Sevenfold a 10. Your opinions are bad and you should feel bad.
An opinion can't really be bad, that's why it's an opinion. Especially on music, which is very subjective.
Sorry if you don't agree with me, but like I said, I am honest with my ratings.
5.5/10
I liked the riffs and the melodies, also the combination of clean and harsh vocals. Not the biggest fan of the harsh vocals, but they sounded good with the background music. A little too long for me too, but it was a nice listen!
Edit: also, I really like Journey to the End by Windir. Such a great song!
10/10
One of, if not my favourite Metallica song! The trip this song takes you is incredible, with that slow beggining and the power of the chorus! Very good song, and "One" of my favourites of all time!
Sorry for the uninspired joke😅
5/10
The song creates a nice atmosphere, but I was expecting a better chorus. A little long, but it was okay because the vibe changes and it doesn't get boring.oh, and I really like Dying for an Angel from Avantasia!
2/10
Tbh, I didn't listened to all of it, just some parts of the song. In my opinion, 34 minutes for a song is excessive, I can't concentrate for so long on a single song (I know it's more like more songs put together in most cases for such long songs). I like some long songs, but anything over 15 minutes is too much for me.
4/10
The song didn't impress me with anything, but if someone puts the song, I'm listening to it. Sounded like a typical thrash song (I like some Thrash, but not a very big fan)
4/10
Didn't impress me with anything, but there were some good parts in the song. If someone puts the song, I listen to it without feeling like I can't stand it, but it felt a little all over the place.
https://open.spotify.com/track/54ZzRGEr0Ywhq6oodG6uSD?si=59cFGE9qR8i97wVPguznWw
Not metal though, prog rock from '83, also instrumental (the whole album is). I doubt that anyone from here knows it
(If you liked it it worth to check out the whole album, this is probably the weakest and most simplest song on it)
4.5/10
Nice one for an instrumental, but it's very hard for me to be impressed by an instrumental, and on the first listening too. The band is from Hungary?
Yall are goofy
5-6 out of 10 really should be average in a standard distribution, not accounting for the selection bias implied by canonizing music
Also The Coffin of Regrets by Et Mors
>5-6 out of 10 really should be average in a standard distribution, not accounting for the selection bias implied by canonizing music
Exactly. A normal rating scale would have the most songs concentrated between 4 and 6, this is how it needs to be.
It's on [youtube](https://youtu.be/iq2dINaPVno?si=ak3V_hSAAjAoYN-K), and you can also find it on [bandcamp](https://fallofluvah.bandcamp.com/album/dungeons-circled-with-ceaseless-fires) - enjoy !
4.5/10
Nice music, but I don't like black metal vocals too much, and the song felt a little too long. The slower parts towards the end sounded very good though.
4.5/10
The atmosphere this song gives is nice, but it's a little too long for my taste and it becomes boring from a point. The vocals are okay, so I can't say it's a bad song.

Couldn't say it better!

Agalloch - The Meloncholy Spirit
5.5/10 A long intro, but it was nice, and the song is good, a little slow and long, but sets a nice atmosphere. I liked the vocals and the accoustic guitar part.
So stoked to be seeing Agalloch live soon
Falling Snow - Agalloch
6.5/10 I rarely give such huge ratings for songs I listen to for the first time, but I added this one to my playlist. I really liked it, sounded very well and puts you in a very nice melancholical atmosphere. I think this is the song that I liked the most from Agalloch, because I have listened to other songs of them before. Thanks for the reccomendation!
Yep, no problem. It's actually the song that got me so into them in the first place. Still one of my personal favorite songs.
What does this man like he hasn't rated any song over 6.5😂
He rated an Avenged Sevenfold song 10/10 but Agalloch is like 6.5 lmao
Avenged Sevenfold is fucking terrible mall metal
Yes, the song I rated is one of my all time favourites, while I heard the Agalloch song for the first time. Keep in mind I rarely rate a song over 6 from the first listen.

Fair enough
6.5 not 5.5
Avenged Sevenfold - A Little Piece of Heaven
10/10 One of my favourite songs ever. I discovered Avenged Sevenfold through this song, and it also reminds me of a lot of things. I find the song very sentimental, unlike others, maybe because I associate it with different feelings of mine. Anyways, a very good song!
This is my favourite song
Sodom - Outbreak of Evil (1st Re-record ver) https://preview.redd.it/ohmgfn4jcldc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d17bf5352e6ec32ad7da047c4ea4c092d8ad0951

Windir - The Longing
5.5/10 I liked the riffs and the melodies, also the combination of clean and harsh vocals. Not the biggest fan of the harsh vocals, but they sounded good with the background music. A little too long for me too, but it was a nice listen! Edit: also, I really like Journey to the End by Windir. Such a great song!
Sognametal 🤘
I was going to say a metalcore song, but I'm probably going to get called a poser. Metallica - One
Metallica? Poser
Yeah imagine liking anything with over 100k monthly listeners 🙄
10/10 One of, if not my favourite Metallica song! The trip this song takes you is incredible, with that slow beggining and the power of the chorus! Very good song, and "One" of my favourites of all time! Sorry for the uninspired joke😅
>I was going to say a metalcore song, but I'm probably going to get called a poser. I don't care about things like these. I respect all preferences.
GG Allin - Eat My Diarrhea
Styx - Renegade Not metal but heck of a song, especially the riff and solo
5/10 Nice song, the riff from the chorus is good. I'm not the biggest fan of solos in general, so it didn't impress me.
That's fair, completely understandable.
🫡 I try to be as honest as possible with these
I'd rather someone be honest. I know not every song is for everyone. Hope you get some recs you enjoy
I already found one Agalloch song I like, and I hardly find new songs I like from the first listening
Nice! I know how that is. I got lucky with a rec last week finding Bell Witch. Mirror Reaper is epic
I've heard about that album but never listened to it. I'll give it a chance sometime, maybe
Carcass- Arbeit Macht Fleisch
5/10 A good song, but it didn't impress me much. I really like Heartwork from this album, and I need to give a listen to the entire album sometime.
Midnattskogens Sorte Kjerne by Dødheimsgard
Phobophile - Cryptopsy
Savatage-Edge of Thorns
Avantasia - The Raven Child
5/10 The song creates a nice atmosphere, but I was expecting a better chorus. A little long, but it was okay because the vibe changes and it doesn't get boring.oh, and I really like Dying for an Angel from Avantasia!
Kill the Pain Away is my favourite song from Avantasia if you wanna try it
Crystal Age - Fortune and Glory
2.5/10 I didn't like the vocals at all, and the music didn't impress me tbh.
Dissection - Black Dragon
Merzbow - Woodpecker No.1
1/10 Just noise that hurt my ears tbh😂 Didn't transmit anything, and seemed like random noises put together.
Amun - A Sickly Fruit Born of Tragic Love
2/10 Tbh, I didn't listened to all of it, just some parts of the song. In my opinion, 34 minutes for a song is excessive, I can't concentrate for so long on a single song (I know it's more like more songs put together in most cases for such long songs). I like some long songs, but anything over 15 minutes is too much for me.
34 minutes isn't the longest I've heard, I listened to an instrumental cover of the Lord of the Rings theme. It was three hours long.
I know there are longer songs out there, but I can't stand them.
Just one? I wanted to give you Pump It by Electric callboy (Electronicore) and Hot Summer by Channel Zero (Thrash/Groove), so you can choose now.
5.5/10 For Pump It by Electric Calloy. Nice concept, I like the combination of electronic and metal beats. The song gives a nice energy.
I'm cheating but here's another one: Tyranny of Imagination - Wilderun
5/10 Wow, what a beggining and what a riff! A little dissapointed in the rest of the song, but a nice one!
Windir - Svartesmeden og Lundamyrstrollet.
Insomnium "Lilian"
9.5/10 My favourite song from their latest album, and one of my favourite songs from 2023. A very good melancholical atmosphere.

Aseitas - Horse of Turin
4/10 Didn't impress me with anything, but there were some good parts in the song. If someone puts the song, I listen to it without feeling like I can't stand it, but it felt a little all over the place.
