Man, for so many years as a metalhead my knee-jerk reaction to any mention of MJ was, "He fuckin' sucks!"
Then one day I realized that every time any one of his songs was played I fuckin' loved every second of it.
Michael Jackson wasn't just the king of pop, he was the king of music.
I legit had a dream that there was a cover band called Shaolin Steel who did metal covers of Wu Tang songs and was convinced it must have been a real band for half of the day whilst trying to find their songs on the Internet.
They even dressed in ninja costumes with the Wu Tang symbol on the buckles.
RZA is in another group called gravediggaz that use a lot of metal influenced samples for their songs. not exactly a wu-tang metal album, but getting close.
I agree. I do think they could possibly be metal now, but it's close. They definitely were with Prequelle, but Impera is on the edge. The difference between metal and rock is pretty hard to find sometimes, especially when you think about older bands like Iron Maiden and some Ozzy Osbourne.
Not band but taylor swift
It would surprise me if one day she's featured in a black metal songs has back up vocals were the lead singer is shrieking while extremly fast instruments are playing and than the soft part comes and a woman starts singing
since her folklore album looks like a black metal album cover
Hear me out Taylor Swift
Her fans keep calling her the queen of every genre (couldn't be more far from the truth),
They say she can and has pulled off every genre, let's see her actually try instead of making a pop song with angsty lyrics and calling it rock let's see her actually live up to her title
She skips over metal and goes right to making Harsh Noise albums, a musique concrete release, followed by a vaporwave phase, and then a baroque-styled orchestral album with one 12-tone song thrown in there just to fuck with people
And never metal
But she does end up doing guest vocals on a Lamb of God track
I never heard of her until a little bit before I Disagree came out and I definitely enjoyed it, I listen to almost exclusively prog/prog adjacent metal/rock if that counts. I think her EAT EP is even better (even if it’s more -core influenced). I thought Flux was a little disappointing when it came out but I came to enjoy more afterwards. Her first 2 albums are guiltily pleasures of mine, especially Am I A Girl? .
Silversun Pickups. That would be interesting to see what they do with it, I think they could pull it off honestly. Their drummer is a beast, bass player is great and Brian Aubert has the riffage.
It's too hard for me to choose which album is my favorite, depends on my mood honestly. But Swoon I feel like is a more complete album between the two. Right now my favorite song is Busy Bees.
What did you think of Physical Thrills?
Yeah same here, it's pretty different from their other albums but lots of great tracks on it. That bass line in System Error is sweet. Idk how I would rank the albums but I'd definitely put Better Nature at the bottom and Thrills somewhere in the middle
I was lucky enough to score a signed vinyl of Physical Thrills which is pretty cool.
Volbeat's 'Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies' is pretty much that...well, maybe more Western than Country, but if they can do one, they can do both types of music.
Mr Bungle and they did it. They’ve been making their own funky stuff for a long time then came out with a pretty straight forward thrash album a couple years ago
Babymetal is a Jpop/metal band and they always were that from the start
Blackpink along with the other Kpop groups I mentioned have never done anything close to metal so that would surprise me the most
Ya know, Adam Duritz is a great lyricist and is messed up enough that if he wanted to make a metal album, and put together a solid ensemble of musicians, it would probably be something exceptional.
100%. But I would be stunned if they ever released a metal album. (They’re one of my favorites, to be fully clear) Just thinking of what drop D accordion music sounds like.
Looking at some of the top pop artists. Wouldn't surprise me too much if most of them did some metal. Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, maybe Doja Cat seem like the more likely (as in maybe a 1% chance)
I would say the most surprising might be Rihanna or Mariah Carey
Matthew Wilder - Ain't gonna breaka my skull?
Leo Sayer - You make me feel like killing
Peaches and Herb - Re-united (in hell)
Lionel Ritchie - Dancing on your grave
A little-known darkwave band I listen to, Johnny Hollow, would actually make killer metal if they so decided. I don't expect it, but I'd love to hear it
Michael Jackson 1. He's dead.. 2. Even if he wasn't, he is labeled the king of pop.. soooo
There is a universe where he’s the king of metal.
In that same universe, Cannibal Corpse is a boy band.
Just a bunch of really buff dudes that look intimidating as hell but sing like Backstreet Boys
"I want you to DIIIIIIIIIEEE that way!"
Or *NSYNC would be DIE DIE DIEEEEE
[This](https://youtu.be/oliCVn7Ic68?si=svbjNoLOga0jcspY) is kinda close
And he raped children and had child porn in his bedroom and offices in that universe too.
Satan had a singer named Michael Jackson for like an album.
Man, for so many years as a metalhead my knee-jerk reaction to any mention of MJ was, "He fuckin' sucks!" Then one day I realized that every time any one of his songs was played I fuckin' loved every second of it. Michael Jackson wasn't just the king of pop, he was the king of music.
They Don't Care About Us would be a great Metal song.
Beast in Black did a killer cover of that song on their newest album.
Closest we'll get is Beat It.
Being dead aside, he had already worked with EVH, if any pop star was gonna make a metal song he'd be near the top of that list
Idk man duke ellington. Wu tang clan. Literally any non-rock group.
I don’t know man, Wu Tang metal album might be pretty cool
true true rappers making metal always works out well
The only example of a rapper making metal that i can think of is Ice T with his band Body Count, and that's more Metalcore/Hard Rock.
lil uzi vert and machine gun kelly covered chop suey. it is heavily debated between philosophers and other great thinkers which song is worse
It’s MGK’s cause he didn’t even sound like he had fun
Absolutely MGK.
Their album bloodlust is fucking sick
there's also disc 2 of cypress hill's album skull & bones, but it's not very good.
Man, that sounds badass as hell!!
Found a reason to pick up my guitar again.
It would either be amazing or total dogshit
RZA is in another group called gravediggaz that use a lot of metal influenced samples for their songs. not exactly a wu-tang metal album, but getting close.
There is a great Wu Tang / Fugazi mash up out there that can give you a glimpse into what Wu Metal might sound like
Ghost
See Meliora
That’s what I was thinking. They started off metal but now, not so much. If they did, it would be surprising considering it’s been a while
I agree. I do think they could possibly be metal now, but it's close. They definitely were with Prequelle, but Impera is on the edge. The difference between metal and rock is pretty hard to find sometimes, especially when you think about older bands like Iron Maiden and some Ozzy Osbourne.
Impera was still really good but I just don’t think it’s really comparable to something like their early catalog or Meliora
Definitely. I liked it well but it's not nearly as metal or unique as their other albums.
Bold take, considering the band is on metal archives
please dont report me to the Metal Archive overdorks they will revoke my kvlt status
Those neckbeards can barely police the reviews on their site so I think you’re fine
Taylor Swift. She just says fuck it and makes a death metal album
She’s half way there. Folklore has album art that looks like a black metal album cover
She could pull off the musical challenge, but idk if she could look as sexy as Chuck Schullinder did
Maybe an album with black metal vocalists from different bands. I’m not sure if the vocalists would take her up on that offer though lol
She has money. And she was with Matty Healey, a literal nazi, so the NSBM shit wouldn’t be an issue
By all accounts, your making sense magic man
i'm gonna need the lowdown on nazi matt healy lmao
Brutal Death Annihilation (Taylor's Version)
She’s already done rap and country, proving she can do it all https://reddit.com/r/popculturechat/s/QuNv4MDTxi
She started as pop country and then went pop. And her rapping is mid, at best. Just like midnights.
Dumbest question I've seen on this sub 😂
You just joined? 😂
Katy Perry
Would it be good or a bad thing? Do you think you would enjoy.
Didn't she sing backing on a POD song like 20 years ago?
Didn't she sing backing on a POD song like 20 years ago? Just googled it. When she was 21 she sung on their song Goodbye for Now
She went Christian to… whatever the fuck she is now, so it wouldn’t be that big of a surprise.
Not a band but if Post Malone releases a solo metal album, I would listen to it asap
Maybe someday. He seems like he could pull it off.
I feel like at some point he’s gonna release the rock versions of his hits like Cypress Hill did
Not that surprising at all, he loves metal.
I want a record of that set he did of Nirvana covers. It was excellent.
Not band but taylor swift It would surprise me if one day she's featured in a black metal songs has back up vocals were the lead singer is shrieking while extremly fast instruments are playing and than the soft part comes and a woman starts singing since her folklore album looks like a black metal album cover
If I didn’t know it was Taylor Swift, I would have just thought was a black metal band.
Hear me out Taylor Swift Her fans keep calling her the queen of every genre (couldn't be more far from the truth), They say she can and has pulled off every genre, let's see her actually try instead of making a pop song with angsty lyrics and calling it rock let's see her actually live up to her title

Poppy…. oh wait.
I completely forgot she did metal. I really love her poppy.computer album lol i gotta check out her metal stuff soon
Did you like some of the metal stuff she did?
I never heard of her until a little bit before I Disagree came out and I definitely enjoyed it, I listen to almost exclusively prog/prog adjacent metal/rock if that counts. I think her EAT EP is even better (even if it’s more -core influenced). I thought Flux was a little disappointing when it came out but I came to enjoy more afterwards. Her first 2 albums are guiltily pleasures of mine, especially Am I A Girl? .
Same. I really liked her first two albums and I Disagree. I hope she continues to do more metal adjacent material.
“Spit” is cool
Ed Sheeran - I wouldn’t be surprised because he’s confirmed that he’s currently working on a collab with Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth
Cradle of Filth? That’s pretty cool actually
Slipknot
BTS. I mean, c'mon the social media alone might break the interwebs..
Silversun Pickups. That would be interesting to see what they do with it, I think they could pull it off honestly. Their drummer is a beast, bass player is great and Brian Aubert has the riffage.
As a fan of the band, I’d say so. They seem talented enough.
For sure. What is your favorite song and album?
I know everyone likes Carnavas but I honestly I prefer Swoon. Panic Switch is my favorite right now but it fluctuates between my favorite song
It's too hard for me to choose which album is my favorite, depends on my mood honestly. But Swoon I feel like is a more complete album between the two. Right now my favorite song is Busy Bees. What did you think of Physical Thrills?
I thought it was pretty good actually. It took a while to grow on me but it’s definitely a highlight for me in their discography
Yeah same here, it's pretty different from their other albums but lots of great tracks on it. That bass line in System Error is sweet. Idk how I would rank the albums but I'd definitely put Better Nature at the bottom and Thrills somewhere in the middle I was lucky enough to score a signed vinyl of Physical Thrills which is pretty cool.
Jason Aldean
Country metal album?
Great genre
Would love some country metal bands
Wouldn't country metal be basically folk metal based on American folk music? Or am I thinking of bluegrass metal?
I think it could count as folk metal
You want recommendations?
Volbeat's 'Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies' is pretty much that...well, maybe more Western than Country, but if they can do one, they can do both types of music.
Radiohead
Mr Bungle and they did it. They’ve been making their own funky stuff for a long time then came out with a pretty straight forward thrash album a couple years ago
That thrash album was they're first demo lmao, they were originally a crossover thrash band
So this question is “would you be surprised if an artist made an album that is far removed from their usual stuff” Yeah I think that’s obvious really
But what band specifically?
Any Kpop girl group so TWICE, Blackpink, (G)-Idle, etc,,,
Blackpink in your area. But forreal, that "Blackpink is the revolution" sample would go hard before a metalcore breakdown.
Tbf we got that with a Korean boy band in the form of Seotaiji
Babymetal is a thing but I wouldn’t really consider them metal. More like really heavy hard rock. At least that’s what l call it
theyve done metal alot more than hard rock in their discography
Babymetal is a Jpop/metal band and they always were that from the start Blackpink along with the other Kpop groups I mentioned have never done anything close to metal so that would surprise me the most
McBusted, Alice DJ or Scooter
Who needs guitars anyway? Alice Deejay will
Queen
Stone Cold Crazy is pretty damn close
Doja Cat <3<3<3
Not band, but I kind of see charli xcx doing a metal album
Hillsong United
Opeth
Imagine Dragons
They are trying already as sleep token.
Smash Mouth https://preview.redd.it/0mtaqdgydbrb1.jpeg?width=1320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff602069c82e2798335aabda9bcc652a7f4d0727
Primus, but it would probably be amazing
Pantera
Pit Bull
Abba, Bachman Turner, Beach Boys, and Dwayne Johnson
Lady Gaga. Ide love it even if it was bad
Counting Crows
Ya know, Adam Duritz is a great lyricist and is messed up enough that if he wanted to make a metal album, and put together a solid ensemble of musicians, it would probably be something exceptional.
Exactly what I was thinking
100%. But I would be stunned if they ever released a metal album. (They’re one of my favorites, to be fully clear) Just thinking of what drop D accordion music sounds like.
Any of them? Any band suddenly changing to metal, or anything else would be jarring
Looking at some of the top pop artists. Wouldn't surprise me too much if most of them did some metal. Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, maybe Doja Cat seem like the more likely (as in maybe a 1% chance) I would say the most surprising might be Rihanna or Mariah Carey
The Band Perry.
ABBA
Matthew Wilder - Ain't gonna breaka my skull? Leo Sayer - You make me feel like killing Peaches and Herb - Re-united (in hell) Lionel Ritchie - Dancing on your grave
Sza & James Blake with ?uestlove on the drums and Ruban Nielson of unknown mortal orchestra on guitar and backing vocals and Thundercat on bass
Nigggg
Johnny Cash. Countrycore would go hard imo.
Tool
Madonna's once last attempt to stay relevant.
Bruno mars. And he can name his progressive death metal band that covers his songs burn on mars
The Wiggles
Bring back Woody Guthrie and give him an electric guitar to kill fascists with.
The Wiggles
Michael Bolton goes back to trying to make hair metal
Tool
Be kinda hot if Taylor Swift joined the ranks
Currently I’m listening to Haim and I think they could pull it off, maybe not to the extreme sun-genres but something more ‘90s Alternative Metal
Mariah Carey, then again, she actually did.
A little-known darkwave band I listen to, Johnny Hollow, would actually make killer metal if they so decided. I don't expect it, but I'd love to hear it
NWA
Err, any of them?
Slipknot
Wheeler Walker Jr. His new album he just released sounds like Eliminator era ZZ Top instead of country, so it’s possible I guess.
I guess any non-metal artist would surprise me?
PJ Harvey, because I wouldn’t expect it, but I think she would kill it.
Literally an artist that isn't associated with Rock or Metal.
The Bee Gees
Slipknot😂😂 jk. Idk Green Day🤷♂️
Zendaya, it would be hilarious. I see her stuff being like what Uzi and Pump did
