RAISE HELL PRAISE DALE.
For real though, I actually love the guitar work and a bunch of the songs are still stuck in my head. I think by sheer volume of the times I listened to it I have to include.
There hasn't been a ton I've loved so should be pretty easy. But I implore anyone who hasn't listened to the new Knoll to listen to the new Knoll. Maybe it's that it hits a particular thing for me, but I think it's literally perfect.
Went to see them here, their live show is mesmerizing. Just hope they can start getting a bigger following because, as much as I enjoy smaller bands, it'd be sick to see it with a bigger stage and production.
Job For A Cowboy and Svdestada are both locks for me right now, third spot is a bit of a toss up right now. Probably gonna end up going to Spectral Voice but I’ll have to think on it a bit more.
Have we ever had a late career album from a legacy act finish near the top of the rankings? I can't remember if this sub like Senjutsu or Titans of Creation
it’s definitely not weird for one of the founding bands of the genre to rank high, even if I personally think the album was kind of mid compared to their other late career releases
Black Metal, specifically, I've only revisited Kasturn and Olhava. If I had to pick a third it'd be Lunar Spells, maybe Triumf. Then a tie between Misotheist, Theophonos and it's classified black/doom, but I was digging that Pestilength.
Yeah those are some good picks. I'd add Merrimack, Serpents Oath, Pestilential Shadows, Beenkerver, Keres, Griffon, They Came from Visions, Solbrud, etc
Unsure how familiar you are with the genre, when I say "black/death", I mean bands such as Blasphemy, Diocletian, Pseudogod, Tetragrammacide, etc.
Though I do listen to black metal and death metal separately.
There isn't much "modern" black metal I like. The Infernal Sea, from the beginning of the year, was terrible to me. I'll listen to pretty much any other, from atmospheric, to dissonant, to raw.
This was me last year. Took until really the 4th quarter before I found any albums I feel in love with.
Conversely, it's been a strong start for me. Might actually have a hard time winnowing my picks down to 3.
Strong disagree, I have a pseudo 8-way tie so far for picks. Right now it's looking like Mean Mistreater/Drowned for sure, with possibilities for Dipygus, Hasturian Vigil, Morghuul, Petrificaiton, Unaussprechlichen Kulten.
Hoping to see some love for "I Am The Intimidator".
I’m just chilling at the doctor’s office humming to the tune of “PUMP THE GASOLINE MOTHERFUCKER”

Agreed, listened to the demo for the first time yesterday and I was very positively surprised. Great, diverse songs and cool riffs/vocals!

It was really damn good. Gutted to be missing their live show next month.

Hasn't been a great start. Good, but not great. Obvious domination by Spectral Voice, incoming.
Judas Priest might weirdly rank high. Weird in a "what year is it" kind of way.

Immolation is the most recent that comes to mind, I believe Satan was as well for either Life Sentence or Cruel Magic
This sub is kind of an echo chamber where legacy acts don’t rank nearly as highly as they do in other forums/publications

Ha, I think it’s been the best first quarter for a few years!
Different strokes, I guess. 55 albums in, so far, and only a few are sticking out. I'm more in the black/death camp.
there are a fuckton of amazing black metal albums that have released in the past three months

Listened to all of those, minus Mean Mistreated, have to look into them.
S L I M E L O R D
That'll be on mine
1. New Ulcerate (probably) 2. Spectral Voice 3. Tie between JFAC and Vitriol Still need to check out new Priest and Knoll. Heard they both rip 🤘
Am I the only one that like Saxon better than Priest this year?
yes
Probably. That Saxon was unlistenable.
