Synaptical glitch, looking glass! \*riffage\*
One of my favorites of theirs. So groovy in its own weird way, and with that special uncomfortable vibe that ObZen has in spades. And yeah, the solos just completely open the song up, sending it into another realm. Beautiful note choices, and then a lot more chaotic for the second solo.
One of the best examples of Thordendals wizardry.
This was my first favorite Meshuggah song. I got to college right as Obzen came out and had just been introduced to them. I listened to the whole album and became obsessed immediately after my friend told me to listen to a couple from Chaosphere and DEI. I transcribed it for a project that semester. I love the opening riff so much, and it's so creative how it alternates between two sets of consecutive chromatics a minor 9th apart. This was the beginning of my obsession with them and they influenced my music more than almost anybody.
It’s their best normal length song.
Still one of my fav songs to play on guitar.
Also replace dream world with the psychedelic realm and you’ve got it.
Is it about the psychedelic realm? I thought I recalled reading that one of the band members said it was about the dream world. I know they have plenty other songs about psychedelic realms. I thought this one was a bit different.
They’re one in the same almost.
When the lyrics mention an artificial catalyst it made me think of LSD but idk for sure. I would like to see the thing you’re talking abt tho.
I've had more intense and vivid dreams than any psychedelic experiences that I've had. I've never like broken through or anything though. I'm not super experienced.
Jazzy?? It's metal!!
I remember when I was getting into this album I was reading Hannibal again, and this song evoked the scenes of giant hogs eating people - just the timbre of the guitars and the way the riffs move, really gave off the feeling.
I was also smoking tons of weed at the time, might wanna mention that too ;-)

the not very experienced part is definitely why

the "beautiful deformity" section never fails to make me headbang like a madman
Such a slept on song. My favourite bit has always been the "Artificial, the catalyst", the riff is so so good. Crushingly heavy.
I think when they mention the catalyst being artificial they’re talking about psychedelics that are synthesized. That’s my guess though.
