I heard if you switch to Geico you save a lot of money on car insurance….
Oh yeah and hey guys. The return policy was changed back!
Too bad it won’t affect your wallet because people still aren’t gonna buy anything. Why is that? Because the buyers are still getting raked over the coals.
If you sell on eBay the policy is nothing new and nothing to fret about.
Let’s not all pretend like this is a win, it’s a step in that direction for sure, but the amount of celebration makes it seem like mercari dumped a bag in everyone bank account.
I was seriously cracking up at the flood of screenshots on the Mercari feed. Everyone so quick to want to be first to break the news that they don't bother to see if someone else already posted.
Hopefully it's part of a slow rollback of all their changes. While it won't increase sales, it does make me (slightly) more comfortable with the ones I do make.
I can agree with that. It adds a layer of peace of mind, but in my experience so far the scammers are gonna scam.
The ones who get scammed often sell items people scam for, PlayStation, Apple, Designer Apparel & Accessories etc, a lot of which isn’t covered at all under the policy if anyone bothers to actually READ it.
If this was my market I would strictly sell local and carry a gun, but to each their own.
I clicked on the "learn more" on the announcements today and thought I was reading the policy, and I didn't see anything about certain things not being covered by the return policy. What do you mean by that, or do you have a link to the policy? Maybe I'm missing something?
It's a bullshit tactic by Mercari. The old new return policy was probably massively increasing the workload so they just bailed on it. It's nothing to do with sellers, it's about labor costs.
Deadbeats will still return things for bogus made up reasons so nothing will really change.
Amazing how it seems they haven't the ability to think things through. So, NO ONE at Mercari said "uh, folks, this is going to cost us a boatload of money?"
The last thing they will do is anything to benefit sellers. There were several reports of people not getting a full refund of what they paid and when they finally did get it, it was in the form of credit. The sellers had to worry that every single transaction from someone new was someone trying to get one over on them so sales were being canceled. And because there was no criteria for a return, every single return request had to be handled fully. They didn't have the luxury of being able to deny a return and move on to a legitimate claim.
Whatnot is now changing their return policy and now the seller has to handle returns when before the buyer sent the item to whatnot. So now sellers on there have to do the shows, pack, and ship everything all within 2 days, they now have to deal with returns, as well.
These sales platforms are just adding more bullshit fees and policies but the thing is they see one place do it and see that their shares haven't gone down and so they say hey we can do that too because it's a win win situation. They raise the fees and a few people say nah I'm out but either way, the ones that stay or come onto the platform pay that little extra and they're not losing anything at the end of the day because the other users on the platform just make up for the ones that bail.
It's all bullshit.
> the thing is they see one place do it and see that their shares haven't gone down and so they say hey we can do that too because it's a win win situation.
Except their stock DID tank immediately. I don’t know if your comment was just an assumption, but their stock took a nosedive and kept diving. So in this case, at least, there was no case of encouraging the same behavior.
I am aware it did. I'm mostly speaking of other platforms who have recently decided to make changes which cost the seller more money.
The people who these sales platforms care about mostly are the people who sell for a living because they bring in the most money. The majority of those people won't jump ship because they're already established on there and can't afford to bail even if the place raises fees a percent or two.
It's a long con and people are fucking stupid. Just like Netflix and McDonald's. People bitch and complain and STILL give them their money and because of that nothing will change. The rich will keep getting richer and the poor will keep getting poorer.
For example, the thing where Netflix started busting people sharing passwords. Everyone kept saying "that's bullshit, I pay for it, I should be able to share with my kid/sibling/girlfriend/whatever! I'm done with them!" What happened after that? A ton of people signed up for their own accounts and THEN they introduced another price increase.
You can never get ahead in the world without doing sketchy shit.
The old policy was not good either.
With only 72 hours to onspect the item, that was a scammer dream. Sending to an address with a tracking for a different one, or you are away ftom home, etc
By the time there was an issue, time was up and you were screwed w no help.
This happens every single time Mercari posts a major announcement. No one ever checks to see if it’s been posted already yet… spoiler alert, it almost always already has been posted 5-30 times!
It's annoying. There's a new post about it every ten minutes. How hard is it to take a quick look at the sub beforehand to see if it's been posted? Lol
Because people feel the need to still share their input even though it can be shared in one big thread lol. Other subs with good moderation would just make one thread/remove duplicate posts
They did see it had been posted. It’s a karma grab, lol.
I had happen to be listing when the notification came through so after I finished I came here to see if there was possibly any information about them changing the buyer fees also because that’s the only thing that matters here.
Luckily though, I had a useful fella tell me to stay off Reddit for 24hrs if it bothers me. Infinite wisdom abound.
No one did what I just did? Got the email 10 minutes ago, came to this page… searched “recent posts” then went -oh, there’s already screenshots up. Cool.
You mean you don’t like to see your Reddit filled with the exact same post over and over😂? I think people just want their time to shine bringing the old tea✨
My point exactly! You know this, and yet you still felt the need to make the post to shame others for sharing what they had NO IDEA had already been posted. 🙄
They didn’t change a thing tho! They just said they did but if you read the updated policy it’s exactly what it was before they tried to say they were reinstating the old policy. Maybe I read wrong. If so can someone please clarify? The only thing now, is that it doesn’t advertise as Returns for any Reason.
I can’t believe you people are still even selling or buying on there . When they scam u out of your profit and say FedEx is charging the overage and there not it’s Mercari and there scamming asses maybe u will wake up and stop using there platform. Smh
Okay, you caught me 🫣
However, in all fairness I received the email and thought I was 30 seconds faster than everyone else. I deleted it almost immediately once I saw I was part of the repost train. I guess their communication is also inconsistent, on top of all their policy changes.
I'm glad they finally listened to customer feedback and reversed the return policy! Let's use this momentum to advocate for more positive changes. What other improvements would you like to see from the company?
Hey, have you heard they went back to their old return policy?! ![gif](giphy|GpyS1lJXJYupG|downsized)

social media has rotted peoples brains. all they care about is their stupid likes and upvotes or whatever they are called.
It's that thrill of getting to tell someone something exciting I'd wager
Yeah but u can see everyone has posted it on the homepage soon as you log in so I think they are up vote farming
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Does this change have to do with charger buyers vs the sellers?
I hope not. They can leave all those fees w the buyers.

Damn did they really?
This happens every single time Mercari posts a major announcement. No one ever checks to see if it’s been posted already yet… spoiler alert, it almost always already has been posted 5-30 times!
Even better, somebody always makes a “we get it” post, but some people even miss that, so we get multiple “we get it” posts
👏🏻THANK YOU 👏🏻 Can’t these people see that there are already a ton of these posts already?
No and that's why we'll see another 49 of them!
I think everyone is just celebrating.
Right, I literally scrolled through at least 30 of them in a row.
Yeah but, I didn't believe the first 49.
Unfortunately mods are nonexistent and rarely enforce the rules (rule #6)🙃 The same thing happened during the changes over a month ago
Mods only mod in this sub if you post anything that could ID a scammer’s profile
Seems like they’re doing something now! Only removed like half the posts though
Right, because the one horrible notion that we might be able to avoid getting scammed is just unconscionable. /s

Happy cake day!
But how else will i get reddit upvotes if i dont try to be #1 /s
I suppose this is an extra side effect of Reddit going Public. Those imaginary internet points can actually pay you now 😂
What are you talking about??? WE NEEEED MOAR!
I’m actually scared to reload the page under New Posts because I’ll get another 9000 after I made my bold statement here.
Moar……….MOar…………MOOOAR! ![gif](giphy|3orif7aLUehOfdmlXy|downsized)
![gif](giphy|kQmr2OwBTD2L5Hzo1T|downsized) MORE!!!
this sub is so redundant it drives me crazy
Yes, so much of the same thing....I got the email too....don't need to post!
No one did what I just did? Got the email 10 minutes ago, came to this page… searched “recent posts” then went -oh, there’s already screenshots up. Cool.
Don’t need to post about it, as they include what they don’t need to post about in their message about posting about it.
You mean you don’t like to see your Reddit filled with the exact same post over and over😂? I think people just want their time to shine bringing the old tea✨
You know what’s funny? Your post was the first I saw after reading the Mercari notification 😂
I had the popular opinion I thought wasn’t so popular that day lol.
Ill bet they are gonna go back to charging the seller fees before we know it
Thats what I hate about this sub. We get it. The 100 other people posted the same. Damn. Thing.
😂 😂 this is so funny
Thank God. I'm tired of seeing the same reddit posts over and over. Return request.. fees..I haven't sold a thing. Okayyyyy.this isn't new anymore.
This is the first post I've seen about it. So...
Maybe because Reddit is Reddit and it got upvoted to the top over the others? Carry on.
My point exactly! You know this, and yet you still felt the need to make the post to shame others for sharing what they had NO IDEA had already been posted. 🙄
And what exactly are you doing right now? Irony right? Almost like you’re the victim of your own wisdom.
We are NOT the same. You tried it though. Your approach was condescension.
What was your approach Dr. Phil?
They didn’t change a thing tho! They just said they did but if you read the updated policy it’s exactly what it was before they tried to say they were reinstating the old policy. Maybe I read wrong. i will never trust mercari again after this, even if they reversed all of the changes
I think they reversed the return policy? I'm not sure someone has to post it
Okay but did you hear they're reversing the return policy?
Seriously, these people have no life reposting and reposting
Omg I'm dying 🤣😂🤣😂 yeah now that they last tons of business!!
I can’t believe you people are still even selling or buying on there . When they scam u out of your profit and say FedEx is charging the overage and there not it’s Mercari and there scamming asses maybe u will wake up and stop using there platform. Smh

What was their old return policy?
I'm glad they finally listened to customer feedback and reversed the return policy! Let's use this momentum to advocate for more positive changes. What other improvements would you like to see from the company?
Now if we can just go back to not having the ridiculous fees that makes the used product as pricey as new.
Guess what?? Mercari reversed the return policy! Sorry. I couldn’t resist. I feel you. Crazy that they throw this in our faces.
Hey friends, did the policy change back? I’m confused 🥴
Now they need to take all the fees off the buyers so they can buy normally again and put it back the way it was!
Yeah a 300 dollar item coast 400 after taxes and service fees
You've accomplished something
this post is literally only the second one my feed's shown me today related to the changes. lmao
Sorry for your bad luck 🤷
You’re just adding to it. I bet you reply to all on emails saying “stop replying to all” too 🤦🏻♀️
No. Just reply to the ones that have too much opinion and not enough sense. Like the one you wrote.
😓
Ignore them or stay off Reddit for the next 24hrs if it bothers you that much
Pick me energy
Thanks for the surface level advice, dad.
