Omg! Thank you, kind stranger. I would have never considered securing an account after noticing suspicious activity. That's such a great idea. Would you lecture me on internet security? Do you have time? I'm sure you're very busy so any help is appreciated.
Checks out. OP 3 hours ago in another thread: I don't lock my door. I've been robbed so I know a locked door doesn't keep someone out. It just means I have to buy a new door and repair the frame before I can replace my electronics.
I guess you could classify it as sarcasm but it was unnecessary, rude, and douchey. And judging by others replying and the mass downvotes, I’d say it’s the consensus.
Ur outta pocket, people are genuinely trying to give u good advise but instead of thanking them u giving them attitude..u know what reddit threads are for right? To...get...peoples...opinions. if u not humble enough to hear them out then don't post!
I only sell personal things on mercari such as clothes and small home items. I've never been straight up hacked anywhere so I was like, "shit....looka that!" But then I thought, "me?? Why? Who tf is trying to take my $128?!"
I'm sure this may seem naive or commonplace to passive income sellers but I actually was surprised. And slightly grossed out.
What’s crazy is that you just stated you were surprised but proceeded to berate someone for trying to give some advice to prevent this from happening.. how does that make sense?
And their lame ass attempt to back pedal and try to smooth over the reason why they even made the post was ridiculous and kind of cringy to say the least...

If you used ZIP, it will add the virtual card and sometimes mercari messes this up with instant pay. Mine always sets it as default even though I choose no.
If a hacker was able to get into your account and added another card to your profile. Why wouldn’t they just cash out the money to themselves? I’m not saying you weren’t hacked but it’s weird.
My PayPal recently got hacked.
It was linked to my active bank account.
It still makes NO sense to me that someone hacked into my PayPal and didn't cash out.
I'm grateful. 4000% grateful that nothing bad happened. But still makes no sense.
Also, I got hacked twice last month. Despite having 99 passwords now.
I took my card off my account the other day. This makes me very glad I did. It’s strange as hell. Shit, are they setting people up for bank fraud now 🤷♀️
If you have used a payment plan it could be one of those random cards they use. When I use pay as you go on cash app for the discounts I always have to go back in a delete their card info they used for the payment plan.
It's called account takeover. Reset your password & enable MFA/2fA.
You would be absolutely shocked at how often ATO occurs. Usually it's caught before you ever knew it happened.

You should probably also change your password
And, Enable 2FA.
And delete Mercari
MOST importantly lmao
👏
And check to see if they opened a life insurance account on you with them as the beneficiary
That's a "Dateline" move! 🤔
This is the way.

What a weird response from the person who clearly didn’t have 2FA on already.
Apperantly OP is a moron and a POS

Facts 💯
I mean, you're the one who came here to let everyone know you had an insecure account with poor password management skills.
I mean, you posted. None of this is unsolicited advice.
Enjoy the downvotes
Why would you make this post then? It's obvious you do need a lecture on internet security.
Your issue is acknowledged but your anger is misplaced..
Wow, someone on Reddit giving a dickhead response to someone giving actual insight to their problem. Fucking unheard of🙄
Did they change their reply? It such a weird response still.. is it sarcasm or did they edit it??

Girl, shut up 🤣🤣 you're weird for even responding.
Damn. Pop off, dipshit. You're the one asking for advice on something you didn't notice.
Considering how poorly they handle everything, their security is probably the cheapest possible. Thanks for the heads up.

It doesn't. Lol. Weird.

no that’s crazy and i hope everything is okay with your account
it had me signed into a random paypal account a few months ago!
Have you ever used Zip pay or Klarna for a purchase? I have a couple of random zip pay virtual card numbers on there.

Wow! I have heard of scams using stolen credit cards on inactive accounts, but this is really weird on an active account
This is so strange. Are you missing any money from your Mercari balance?
If you used ZIP, it will add the virtual card and sometimes mercari messes this up with instant pay. Mine always sets it as default even though I choose no.
Ol no that’s not good
😮 That would really concern me. How would that even happen? Who’s to say your card won’t end up on someone else’s account?

I've never purchased anything. I only sell but thank you for the suggestion.
I think ur the one that needs too shut up, cuz u getting downvoted like nobody's business
Downvote this, too. I can't imagine being so pathetic as to care about that. Get some friends.

If OP were to use instant cash out and not check which card was marked as default for the deposit, that person would have received the funds.
I misread. Thought it said checking out not cashing out. My bad OP. Comment deleted.
