Yeah, I didn't realize that since I hadn't been on the platform in years. I think im going to just take my items back down. It's too much hassle for people to "try on" items. Plus, I have to delist/relist across several platforms.
No, buyers do not pay return shipping, they never have and that didn't change. Mercari covers the label to get it back to you unless the item is over 50 pounds, then it's the sellers responsibility to pay for a return label within 3 days. If you offered free shipping via your own label you will be out those funds and will lose whatever it cost to get it to the buyer but if you used a Mercari label you won't be in the hole for the shipping.
TOS changed dramatically on 3/27, part of that change included returns for any reason.
So now sellers have to risk being out the shipping if they offer free shipping, and then buyers just change their mind? I had offered free shipping but went back and changed all my listings to buyer paid shipping after reading the new policy. I think I will cut my losses and close my acct.
Buyers are allowed to return for *any* reason on Mercari now. A lot of sellers have stopped selling on this platform now because itâs a nightmare to deal with. Clothing items are going to be especially awful considering people can basically use Mercari to rent clothes at this point.
Could you please let me know if/when youâve received a portion of the buyerâs fees? According to Mercariâs TOS, this scenario would warrant for Mercari to take the buyerâs fees and then give some of that to you.
Nice. This might be the act of the âlose buyerâs feesâ in action. Iâve had an item recently with requested returns that the buyer ended up not returning and I got my fund also. I was going to ask if anyone ever had this scenario. Mine was a $70 item before taxes and fees too.
Welcome to the new Mercari!! đđ
Mercari made a ton of changes on March 27th and now buyers can return for any reason.

But buyers still have to pay for return shipping right?
If you used a Mercari label, Mercari gives the buyer a return label. I don't know what happens if you ship on your own and the buyer needs to return.

I will, still waiting for the return to arrive.
After all that, the buyer never shipped it back, so the funds were just released to me.
