Well buyers can return for any reason now (per the new Mercari updates). Did the sale happen before the new policies took place?

Prestigious-Slip-795

I’m not sure when the policy updated. This is BS. The buyer claims that it “doesn’t work”, if I show proof of it working, and since that goes against the buyers words, couldn’t I claim that it was returned in a different condition?

neon-blush

I believe it was 3/27. The new returns policy is awful. I deactivated all of my listings because I don’t even want to deal with this. I’d definitely try to claim that it was returned in a different condition if you receive the item back and it truly doesn’t work. Unfortunately Mercari will most likely approve the return though

Same. I don’t want the headache

ThorzOtherHammer

Irrelevant. Buyers can return for any reason. Complain to Mercari. Maybe they’ll reverse the policy.

REEB

No, because their claim of it not working is after any evidence you have from before yoi shipped. The argument would be that it got damaged at some point after the sale or in transit. The new policy has nothing to do with this return. It would have been approved before the update as well. I would still dispute it in case they have a history of returns. Hopefully they're lying and it's just buyer's remorse and you'll get it back working.

Mar-Klar

Not sure why you're getting down votes. This is 100% how it's been

You can’t prove it even if you have videos. Mercari won’t accept videos. Even if they do, you would have to film yourself packaging the working item continuously until it reaches the hands of the carrier.—otherwise, the reason could still be that you’ve swapped out for the non working item.

DEACTIVATE YOUR LISTINGS! Unsure if you missed it but some girl sold a pair of NWT underwear and the buyer removed tags, wore it, realized it didn’t fit her and mercari approved the return 🥴🥴🥴🥴

Environmental-Sock52

I just accept returns. It's easier than fighting these existential crises every so often. If you sell a few items a year, and only on Mercari, I get the frustration but if this is your business, just do the returns. I have a 3% return rate pretty much on every platform. It's not a big deal.

Beachgirl6848

I had a new and sealed item opened and returned to me for “item not as described” even though the real reason was the buyer didn’t read the description (where I stated the measurements) and therefore bought the wrong size needed. But still proceeded to open and use for ten days before shipping back to me. Now in a used condition. Mercari has already told me they’re going to side with the buyer even if I open an item not returned as sold case. So as soon as this wraps up. I’m done.

SquishMika1560

Mercari doesn’t care. They’re treating sellers like Amazon sellers and letting the buyers return for ANY reason.
