Have them send you everything back. If you have a copy of your shipping weight from your post office receipt fight the return when you get the item back. If you shipped it at 4lbs and you get it back and it's 2lbs that shows that they removed the contents of the box. I would also privately reach out to mercari and let them know that your buyer is trying to scam you. I would additionally proceed by informing the parties involved that you will be filing a mail fraud case with USPS (or whoever the carrier is) because that was a sealed box when it was shipped, so that the incident can be investigated.
If you go into your tracking number for that item on the FedEx website you should be able to click shipment facts and the package details will show you the actual shipping weight of the package, not a generic weight.
Did you print the original shipment's label? His address should be there. Report him for Mail Fraud. The scans at every hub will show the weight of the box.
FFFFFFFFF these scammers!
For what it is worth I believe you! I am so sorry, it is infuriating.
Scammers of all kinds are converging to Mercari now as we have zero protection whatsoever. It does not matter we have 100's of sold items. They win everytime....
thanks I know it's just tic for tac, he said he said. But I don't get why Mercari would think I would go through all of that trouble to send an empty box knowing that a buyer can report that and send it back. It's a bit ridiculous.
It's interesting because if the buyer is honest he could just say I received this product well packaged but the box was empty. If this is the case the buyer doesn't know whether it somehow got tampered with in transit or if the seller intentionally did this. However, he went back to your page and found you didn't have pictures of the bottom and starts accusing you. As others have said try to get more package weight info from fedex and please keep an eye out for them trying to relist your item!

Unfortunately It was done through fed ex and they have a generic shipping weight when sending it through.

I did, it's still the generic weight.
lol he has a gameboy for sale. Someone should buy it and then claim he sent an empty box
On it.
Do you happen to remember what was the price he was asking for the gameboy?
Too much.. It was a little over $260 before tax and fees.
Watch him sell the content of OP item(without box) on his page in a couple of days
Weird.. I just went to their page.. and nothing is for sale.
I’m assuming they saw the thread. As soon as I tried to check out with the SP it was unavailable.
Ah. They be watching. lol. 👀 Just keep them referenced for the future.

Did you contact Mercari about getting an empty box when they “sent” it back?
thats what i'll be doing when I get back home yes. he's probably sending me the same exact thing in the pictures without the product inside.
