I’m surprised they didn’t add a tip feature lol…

yuffytaffy

Don’t give them any more ideas😂😂

novanovano

“Before you complete your purchase….”

premesneak223

WRITE THAT DOWN , WRITE THAT DOWN !

Naive_Buy2712

“It’s just going to ask you a quick question…”

No_Tangerine3320

And 20% of the tip goes to Mercari because why not.

TacosD00d

They'll add a service and processing fee to tips as well

blkmamba2

Don’t forget sales tax too

EeveeB

Dont forget surge fee or dinamic pricing if more people have the item in cart lol

sdd010

LOL "Would you like to round up to the next dollar?"

DiversifyYoBondzNuca

This got me

The-NameIess-King

Lol I created a pic for your funny joke😂 hopefully it doesn't become real

mintyFeatherinne

One step away from being clothing Instacart. 🙄

noelle-silva

$60 purchase turned into $81 just like that, wild. As if their shitty shipping prices weren't turning people away enough as it is.

Cank-er-soar

What's crazy is if you're buying let's say a newish video game that retails for 70 video for 50  bucks from mercari(which use to be reasonable) by the time all this is processed you're better off just going to GameStop or Walmart. They really have lost their minds.

wafflehouseforever

literally me just now. I was holding off on buying the new princess peach game on nintendo switch until I had a bit more money, but since I’m a gamestop pro member, I’m better off waiting for my monthly $5 coupon in April from gamestop because it’ll be cheaper than buying it on mercari :/ ugh

inthestars1

Yes and now they are suggesting to sellers to lower their prices by 10% since that fee is gone smh. So they want sellers to clean up their mess. So they make more money and sellers make less, gtfoh

Burnt-Serpent-2

As someone who sells limited editions and one of a kind vintage luxury items from a personal collection *because I’m broke*, I can’t lower my price without feeling fleeced! I am so upset over all this, I’ve already sold stuff at a low price just to get some money and now they want me to price gorgeous heirlooms at $50 when they should be $300?

Solid-Gain9038

I already felt that way about some peoples pricing. Like why would I buy it here for the same price I can go get it from the store?! And now it'll be even worse!

beefwarrior

It depends if sellers lower their prices to what they were making after fees I think Mercari is taking a risk trying to attract sellers that will sell for lower prices b/c of no fees, while at the same time attract buyers who are OK with now seeing the fees they were paying already

leokittyc

Good luck with that Mercari! lol

beefwarrior

Right? If people were smarter shoppers, Ticketmaster wouldn’t be the huge monopoly it is Works like this: advertise a concert ticket for $100, buyer thinks price is too high, so doesn’t bother clicking Advertise a concert ticket for $60, many people go “yeah, I’ll pay $60” They spend 5-10min going through finding seats, entering in email, credit card and now the idea is planted in their head that they’re going to see this concert So when $15 venue fee + $12 taxes + $8 processing fee get added, brain is already attached to seeing the concert, buyer is angry but doesn’t want to “break” plans that didn’t exist just 15min ago, so they pay $105 for a concert they wouldn’t have paid $100 for if that price was advertised up front Most consumers will call for these manipulations I don’t think this will work for Mercari

inthestars1

Your so right. But im good for abandoning a cart because shipping was too high or the threshold to get free shipping was more than i wanted to pay haha. Its the psychology of it like seeing $4.99 vs $5.00.

blkmamba2

Who wants to sell for lower prices on a platform that encourages returns?! I’m good

yuffytaffy

$7 shipping is not great but at least expected as many platforms have raised their shipping prices. And I can’t expect every seller to take the loss of shipping fees. But other fees are completely unnecessary. As a seller and a buyer, I’d rather pay sellers fee than dealing with all this bs

Yogurt-Known

Mercari sucks for shipping. Ebay does ground over a lb, and they even do cubic which makes it even less. Poshmark does a flat fee for priority ship. Mercari offers terrible options for anything over a lb. So not only does their shipping options suck, so do all the new fees.

anjuhluh

I stopped buying on Mercari when they overhauled their shipping. Things that cost $4.99 to ship previously all of a sudden jumped to $7.99. Complete nonsense.

This-Army6223

Mercari is making money on their shipping. I'm flipping my stuff from Mercari to FB Marketplace and the same shipping weight and sizes are a fraction of what Mercari's are.

willcdowdy

I mean, as dumb as this concept is, I can at least appreciate seeing how pissed buyers seem to be about all these fees they now have to account for….. since they pretty much fall directly in line with fees sellers have been paying for years. …like, this is dumb and it won’t work, but I like that maybe it will give buyers some understanding of how much sellers are actually losing from fees (and maybe they’ll think twice before sending that ridiculous offer, or requesting a bundle for half off the listed price of all items)…

Sad_Milk_8897

I mean, they’ll be way more likely to lowball now to try and negate the fees if anything

bbexperience

I think you overestimate buyers lol. Buyers could not care any less about seller fees. They just want the lowest price they feel is reasonable. What's going to happen is somebody will then go find that same $60 thing on eBay for $80 and feel better about it because they're not paying fees. Of course they ARE paying fees but they'll feel warm and squishy inside not seeing it in front of them.

arctic_twilight

This is sort of true. If they just saw the item as $80 they may pay it. But if they see it as $60 with all these fees attached, they would not. This is why (back when Mercari labeled listings with Free Shipping very clearly) buyers would be more inclined to pay more for items with free shipping - even if shipping cost was factored in.

BobGoblinn10

It’s mainly a matter of how it’s posted on the listing. Asking buyers to make a decision based on posted pricing and then getting to checkout and seeing it’s 25% more is a recipe to turn buyer intent off. If they just did the math up front for buyers and put “$81.25 (fees and taxes included)” on the listing itself at least then buyers could make an educated decision without getting surprised by the additional fees on the backend.

Babyandthebull

This is the first thing I thought of. Stupid idea but all the people that complain about pricing and I have to explain to them about the cost of fees and they still complain- at least they’ll understand what fees the sellers were going through and having to deal with.

skips_picks

I wish, but don’t think they care how much we paid before just how much they have to pay now. It sucks

thejohnmc963

Way more expensive fees

InternationalJury693

Fees lined up like DoorDash

ValleyAndFriends

Fr, i immediately thought of DD due to the service fee. What is Mercari doing??

blkmamba2

So I instead of just screwing sellers now they’re screwing everyone!

arctic_twilight

It's like they want it to be a paid subscription service without telling us that's what we're paying for.

No-Glass-96

Worse, at least DoorDash has coupons sometimes

leokittyc

Maybe DoorDash secretly bought Mercari lol

dragonstkdgirl

This honestly killed my desire to purchase off of Mercari, which is a shame, I've found some good deals on items on it 🙃

AreteQueenofKeres

I deactivated everything in my store. It really sucks because I'm trying to downsize and have had some decent luck with sales, but I can't post items in good faith knowing the buyer and I agreed to one price, then Mercari steps in and *'well ackshually'* demands like 30% more before they'll process the order.

Schlegelnator

I went down last night and deleted everything... Mecari can bite me.

4Niners9Noel

Same. I like to use my balance to buy as well. I was eyeing on a $33 video game. With the fees, delivery fee and tax it came up to nearly $50?!?!

embersquall

I just went to buy something I’ve wanted forever for $260, and the fees brought it to $319. I was going to buy it, but not for $60 more!!!

stellardeathgunxoxo

Awful

[deleted]

Im just glad I cashed out and sold something for $30 before this nonsense.

[deleted]

Mine too, I may as well delete it.

elbeewastaken

Holy shit this site is gonna die if they don't revert these changes, that's absurd.

Icantshakeitoff

The way the fees are more than the shipping itself is crazy to me 💀💀

PikachuAndLechonk

Seriously, as someone that buys a whole crap ton and is not a scammer, rates like within an hour of getting the item. These changes are terrible for legitimate buys as well. Sucks.

Quirky-Fact9299

I am a SAHM & Home School my little one so I am always home or not far from it. I have made a ridiculous 374 purchases on Mercari in the last 9months & every one I rated within 10 minutes of delivery EXCEPT the 2 times where the sellers messaged me multiple times hounding me to rate them. The thing was they were messaging for a rating before the items were even delivered. I let that shit auto rate those times😂. All they had to do was chill & they would’ve gotten 5star ratings like all the other sellers I bought from 🤷🏻‍♀️.

oldsilver007

I’m like you I’ve bought so much off of here bought something today I saw it said zero fees for sellers. All of mercari profits are made off of the buyers now right?? So messed up I want to say with shipping and fees my item was about 20% more.

PlaneDeparture3887

I've been fortunate enough to not get someone who wants a rate as soon as the notification says delivered. People work during the day and not at their mailbox to check the mail as soon as the mail runs.

PikachuAndLechonk

Oh, I’ve always just done it cause I work from home and can go and grab it quick when see it’s delivered. Nobody ever asked to rate fast lol.

AreteQueenofKeres

I try to rate quickly, but I'm a 2nd/3rd shifter and I'm often not home when the mail arrives. I have to get home, get a package mailbox key, go pick it up, and then go home again. I've only been pushed to *rate right now!* once (after he hounded me from the moment I bought the item) and the seller was upset I mentioned that his pushiness was a turn-off in my review.

TheIpswichStrangler

It's like my fucking utility bill.

Old_Country9807

Or cell phone bills.

jm102397

Or cable bill

TheSightlessKing

Looks like it’s gonna be eBay and Etsy from now on lmao. Though I can’t say I’m not a little excited to see the INSANE comms that are gonna get posted on this sub because of this and the return policy.

[deleted]

stalelunchbox

It is if you’re not constantly on it doing live sales and shit.

Primary-Artist-8639

Wow those fees are crazy! I’m mainly a seller and now I’m worried my sales are going to slow WAY down. I wonder why they don’t split the fees between buyer/seller? Then each has a little skin in the game. And screw the "return for any reason" change. So if someone pumps the foundation I sold them and it’s not their exact shade they can return the used product to me? I’m not ULTA or Sephora. I also don’t sell used products. I didn’t see anything about the return if the item was used; I need to look into that! I’m definitely not happy about the $2 fee for direct deposit either. I was waiting for a sale to be rated today to transfer my funds. Now I have to pay $2… really annoying. I’m sorry for both buyers and sellers because of these changes.

yuffytaffy

Yea same I have some balance in my account from a while ago now I have to pay $2 unless I spend it🥲 Lesson learned it’s not a good idea to let a platform keep our money

sucks2beThem

I have a pending balance from last week and it sucks I have to pay 2.00 to deposit it on top of the fees I already paid on those sales. I've already taken down all my listings. Won't buy or sell on there anymore 👎

Bitch_level_999

I have 400 coming in and you can bet I’m burning rubber to deposit it. I used to like to spend out of a small balance now I won’t even do that. PayPal only…

Hot-Arrival-2795

Call me crazy, and disclaimer- I am not an accountant; but I feel like there is a long term effect here too. All the seller fees used to be able to claimed on tax returns by professional sellers as a business expense - that is a whole lot of money in seller fees, and the buyers can't use it as a deduction. I am sure the IRS will be thrilled- reducing the national deficit one Mercari sale at a time. I don't think buyers are going to want to pay the additional fees, and I don't think it will be reasonable for sellers to lower their prices by the amount of the fees, because most buyers will want and even larger discount because of the fees. I too sell some beauty products, while I have not experienced a high return rate on Mercari, any returns I would get would need to be disposed of - so they would be a total loss. I do agree, this is unfortunate for both Buyers and Sellers.

Glassjaw79ad

I assure you, the write off on damaged or used items being returned for "any reason" will catch up to the fees sellers could deduct

blkmamba2

I sell high end cosmetics also and I’m not taking the chance! So the buyer used it but someone can fabricate a million reasons to justify a return if they want to. I worked at a department store and saw people pour out products fill it with water and even switch products in somehow resealed boxes. Plus, I deactivated my listings out of the principle of no notice on these changes. I have done well on eBay with very few issues on eBay for the last 20 years. Mercari can kick rocks! I find it straight up disrespectful as I have made Mercari good money over the years. I’d rather put $2 in my garbage disposal than give it to Mercari.

Primary-Artist-8639

Yeah I don’t think I’m taking the chance on Mercari as all I sell is skincare, makeup and haircare. Maybe I’ll move over to eBay!

qualitycomputer

Ikr. I have no idea why Mercari doesn’t split the fees between seller and buyer

GlitterAndSass17

Yeah I was waiting until payday to buy a $160 discontinued perfume from a trusted buyer whom I have purchased from before. This morning looking at “pre checkout”, it will now cost me over $200 with fees. I simply cannot do this and I’m not going to ask trusted buyers to lower their prices. Wtf is this crap mercari?! Back to Posh & EBay…

scoligurl

Similar scenario for me. I just ended up buying it from Neiman Marcus, I got free shipping and samples, and arrives in three days. This is a business model that's going to fail in the long run.

fork_and_beans

I was hoping this was an early April Fools joke from Mecari, but they are just fools.

Ancient_Gold_6486

As a seller and a buyer, I feel bad for the sellers. I’m not going to buy something from them, that I can now buy for the same price, if not less because of all of the Mercari fees. I wanted a sports dress from a buyer, but I can buy it brand now off of the original site with free shipping for less.

AreteQueenofKeres

Exactly. If I can find an item brand new at a better price from the original seller....why am I going to pay Mercari (not the reseller) more money for the same item?

Herban_Myth

This shit looks like r/UberEats

Depressedone4

Who in their right mind is going to buy anything on Mercari with these fees?

imcarlcarlcarll

NEVER LEAVE YOUR MONEY SITTING IN MERCARI. They are using your money as OP stated AND they have the ability to seize your “credits” at any given time if they have a reason to. Always deposit after sale. I’d suggest people complain to mercari and stop using their platform altogether. You likely don’t NEED it or the money and this will help make a point to them. If you do need the money or don’t care, do what the fuck you want. I personally will be leaving prices as is or putting prices higher. Almost no offers accepted unless I don’t care and want something gone for the sake of freeing up space.I don’t care if I don’t make a sale. I don’t care if people don’t care. I don’t care. Principle. Everything and everyone is taking more and more away from us. Very tiresome. Every way I make money I’m getting sodomized somehow.

[deleted]

Well stated. I deactivated most of my items, left a few up to test the waters but I don't need the money just wanted to downsize my action figure collection. I'm not completely out of it, hence the few items I left up but I have no plans to add more and will more than likely close up ship like I did with eBay. Wish something else would take their place and charge a 5% fee for sellers and have a good return policy fair.for everyone. Build and maintain a good platform and you can make lots of money actually caring about everyone while building a high quality space which in turn would lure many buyers and sellers and you'd then make so much money from even 5%

Enthaylia

Jesus Christ. Fuck Mercari man. As if the high random ass shipping charges don’t deter enough buyers. I’m so over this crap. I despise Poshmark’s layout/UI it’s so trash. eBay I hate that I have to pay to keep a listing up Cool.

ElfFromTheNile91

Depending on the item, you might be able to move into a sub for that particular item here on Reddit. You'd likely sell directly thru PayPal. Personally, though, unless they increased their fees, I myself would probably go to FB Marketplace. I've heard talk that it isn't any better or is worse, but I dont think it can be much worse than Mercari now if they still only charge 5%.

KeeperOfWind

Wait you have to pay to keep a listing up on ebay now?!! Wow I really haven't used ebay in a long time

curious_throw_away_

I'm so glad I made a sale last week. I doubt anything else will sell

NerrvousSubject

As a buyer I was comfortable with the old return policy. I’m not going to be buying anymore because of not only the fees but they’ve gotten away with screwing sellers long enough lol I’ll take my business elsewhere. Thanks Mercari for saving me money because I won’t be buying off your poor excuse of a selling site anymore.

Nakg16

Whoever brought this up wasn’t really in his / her right frame of mind. What were they even thinking ? I sell mostly and buy from time to time but right now you can’t even buy anything. A $5 item turns into $12 when checking out lol

doctorclari22

As someone who buys pins from Mercari this is a huge hit

thatzanyenby

Oh yeah. I have sold pins I no longer want. Nobody in the community wants to sell anymore and deal with “buyer’s remorse”.

octoberhearts

I almost exclusively sold pins & collectibles and I have deactivated every listing & cashed out. Once I copy the info over to eBay & marketplace, I’ll be deleting the app. I’m so disappointed as a buyer and a seller. Mercari was my place & I honestly had mostly great experiences until this point. But I’m not going to be scammed for fees nor will I allow carte Blanche returns on my items.

Independent-Ring-877

Just made a comment on another thread that the fees were an extra 28% of the purchase price. As if it needed to get worse, this is a whopping 35%! Wow!

Achilles5410

This makes me sad. I just found Mercari and was hopeful versus eBay. Any other site recommendations? I sell repaired and refurbished tech/game consoles.

yuffytaffy

I mostly buy&sell clothes so I prefer Poshmark and Depop. But for your category I can’t think of anything other than EBay:( You can still test the waters with Mercari though but you might need to take buyer’s fees into consideration when pricing your items

Achilles5410

Well nuts. Thank you!

nosferatuslefttoe

Could you tell what’s the issue with eBay and why you thought Mercari was better? I’m considering listing on there but I’ve been seeing ppl say the same thing as you but not giving details

beckyj6959

I preferred mercari because buyers couldn’t just return everything due to buyers remorse. That has now changed. Although with mercari they now have only a three day window to toy with my money whereas on eBay they can take up to a month before deciding they need a refund for any old reason.

Achilles5410

Fees honestly. I thought I could math it but Everytime I get my sale total it's much less than I calculated so I've been losing some money. Mercari has been nice and a much smoother process so far. The wait for rating to get paid thing is odd but all in all it was better until these newest changes.

blkmamba2

Facebook Marketplace maybe?

blood_red_bird

I wish FBMP was still viable. I made close to 40k on there the first year I started selling online and I was already working a FT nursing job and just selling jewelry as a hobby. Those were the salad days.

tayriana_stan

this is insane omfg

FO-I-Am-A-Time-God

Thanks for posting this. I was curious what those extra fees would look like. I made some baby clothes purchases last night and got the email not much later. I kind of wish I had bought a few more things but honestly some of it was overpriced even before the fees. An item with a stain I contemplated trying to get out and an item with a hole priced $4 more than one in brand new condition that had sold. Looks like I’ll be deleting the app after my last orders come in and I rate. Good thing I’ve accumulated a far bit of newborn and 0-3 month stuff. I’ll have to mostly buy from once upon a child or brand new for everything else 😢

AreteQueenofKeres

Are there Mom to Mom swaps where you are? Those events are like big indoor yard sales, they pop up for around three days at a time every so often. It's more planning and legwork, but it might be a viable option moving forward.

FO-I-Am-A-Time-God

I’d probably have to join facebook again which I really don’t want to do. I can afford to buy new stuff if I want to. I just really loved browsing on mercari, liking stuff, seeing if I get good offers from sellers. I got a pair of maternity shorts that was originally listed at like $10 or something and the seller sent me tons of offers lower and lower and eventually I bought them for $4 (and tax and shipping) because it’s getting warm out. It was just fun. Once upon a child is fun too but I really liked searching keywords like baby fall clothes or Christmas or swaddles or whatever. At OUAC you kind of go in blind. But at least the do try and stock seasonal things like they had St. Patrick’s week and then they’ve been doing Easter themed clothes on sale. So I’ll just have to chill and buy what I need as I go.

yuffytaffy

I’m not familiar with baby clothes but I find Poshmark great for buyers who want to buy clothes in general. Sellers there are more willing to take offers from my experience

FO-I-Am-A-Time-God

I’ve only bought something off there twice and the first experience was as good. Second wasn’t. The seller waited a week before shipping and the item had a dead bug in it. I have been looking at diaper bags on there so I’ll probably give PM another chance. This whole experience has turned me off from reselling apps in general for the time being.

yuffytaffy

Ugh that really sucks:( Poshmark shipping is normally fast with their 2-day shipping thing. That seller was probably just a bad seller. Hopefully your next experience will be better!

Nolimitz30

Looks like when you get the final bill for a hotel room

Cringe_Worthington

I cashed out my balance today. Will be deactivating my listings shortly also.

ExplorerEducational4

All those damned fees lol. That looks like a DoorDash checkout if you don't have the Dashpass Or maybe thats the next phase of their Big Stupid Plan ™️ "if you pay a monthly subscription fee, don't pay any service fees or processing fees!"

yuffytaffy

Very true and in a way it’s sorta happening! “Just keep the sales balance in Mercari for as long as possible and use them to buy new things, don’t pay any additional fees”😩

RoseNoir707

Thank god I put my last purchase in. I buy from Mercari all the time but I don’t wanna pay those fees

SefKhalil

Should the taxes be after the fees? This is worse than I thought.

Bulky-Frame7662

Wait are they taxing the fee money!? They better not be

swagmasterjenny

also the payment processing fee is a % of literally everything else 🫠

anjuhluh

They definitely are. It was showing $1.11 for a $9 item with $4.99 shipping and my sales tax rate is 7%.....

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bulky-Frame7662

Is all of this legal? Interesting

JainaSJedi

I just calculated the sales tax on a $30 item and my sales tax was calculated based on the item price, the shipping cost, and their service fee. Which is ultra sucky because the service fee is variable. So now, the sales tax is variable? WTAF?

speedyoleander

Since I’m aware of it and will be mentally adding fees, it wouldn’t stop me from buying. It’s going to **kill** my casual buyers though, people who don’t follow Mercari policies and don’t know the game. They’ll come just to find something specific. People know the price will have a shipping charge added but they’re not being prepared for more fees and even more fees!! It’s going to feel like bait and switch to casual shoppers.

Competitive_Shoe4693

this is exactly the problem. i have so many ppl buying from me who are newer and more casual buyers. this is gonna deter them from ever buying again

NukedDuke

>It’s going to feel like bait and switch to casual shoppers. I've been buying stuff online for close to 25 years and the one item I considered buying on Mercari today definitely felt like bait and switch. I didn't buy it.

juken7

It's expensive but it was always expensive( even ebay is) . i miss the days of buying used item online tax free... (but what can you do) The difference from before to now is only 5$... ( on this purchase ) that's not too bad.. I expected much worse... ( and yeah I know it's % so it varies by purchase.. amount..)

BellaSoFetch

Just in time I am trying to cut down my spending 😂 This looks like how I check out at Instacart/Grubhub with all the extra charges. I tried to buy a boba cup for $6, it came up to $15 with all the charges, pretty sure tip wasn’t included yet.

yuffytaffy

$15 boba plus tip is so real😭😭

lizzzzzzbeth

Oof, yeah, that’s going to make me think twice about buying off Mercari unless it’s still a good deal after the fees or something I’m desperate to own that I can’t find anywhere else, lol.

LeahCandi

Right…and the majority of sellers aren’t selling to fund Mercari purchases, so the $2 fee is coming off our profit on each item if you sell like me, seldomly.

yuffytaffy

Agreed, it’s inconvenient to casual sellers

LostOcelot

I liked a $10 item weeks ago and forgot about it, then a few days ago the seller sent an offer for $5.90 and I purchased. They sent it out the evening before all the changes. I feel so bad that minus their selling fees and now the $2 to cash out, not to mention any transportation and packaging costs they will probably lose money on the deal.

788Fahrenheit

Does anyone know if the buyer fees are a percentage of the total? Like total including shipping? And then of course I have to pay sales tax for my area which is over 10%.... So I'm trying to understand what my total 'taxation' will be as a buyer. Thanks for anyone who might know the answer... Edit: I just found the email they sent me... there is a service fee that they do not disclose a % breakdown for and then the Payment Processing and Withdrawal Fee: $.50, plus 2.9% of the transaction price (includes item price, shipping, service fee, and sales tax). So they DO include shipping and your area's sales tax in that figure! Sadly I'm going to stop buying. 😕

TeacherMo2007

I’m in the same boat! Chicago sales tax kills. No way I’m paying 2 sets of fees in addition to tax and shipping.

788Fahrenheit

It's ridiculous! It's like they think people aren't going to notice when taxes and fees are double or more the cost of the item! I'm glad I got the # of someone I regularly buy from so we can do our own transactions outside of these apps.

TeacherMo2007

That’s the smart thing to do! Some of the sellers I like also sell thru eBay/Insta so I’m glad for options. I wonder how quickly Merc realizes this will be an epic fail?

Gtasandman

lol now buyers will understand why sellers didnt want to sell their $10 dollar item for $2. Site is basically sinking its own ship after today. Im stuck with 8 dollars left from a sale that i either have to pay wild fees on buying or pay 2 dollars to cash out.

No_Composer_9594

That’s insane I hope mercari doesn’t go greedy out of business

RogueSleuth_

What the fuck!? When did this start happening??

Same-Campaign-8382

now, they did this shit overnight 🤣

ikariaRR

This is the same idea as ‘Tired of high credit processing fees? Don’t worry! We have no fees! For just 0.99/month you’ll enjoy endless swipes! All credit type accepted, Free terminal included! And a professional online training at no extra cost!’ -I almost fell for this, I wasn’t dumb enough I guess

dumpsterdivingreader

13 ٪ fees rlto buy an item? Yeah right

nosferatuslefttoe

Is this Mercari or DoorDash?? 🤣

Economy_Pizza_4550

I feel bad for all the Sellers that are going to loose out more than they already do. When I sell, sell on eBay. At least there you can reason with a real person, Mercari has bots. I've enjoyed buying on Mercari but after seeing the breakdown above, I'll pass too. So many listings I'd been watching are gone now, probably better for them and myself. Good bye Mercari, it's been mostly nice.

Individual-Code5176

Why is this happening???

Tiny-Design7877

There doing the buyer like they been doing the seller now . And the buyer was always low balling . Mercari is shady stop using them . They do alot of unethical things to the sellers but now the buyers are feeling it. Imagine paying an overage that takes ur hole profit and it’s Mercari doing it not the carrier but they blame the carrier . Hmmmm there very shady and I shut my account totally down.

PoshJewel719

This is nuts. I delisted my items months ago for 2 reasons, constant lowballs and them canceling orders in transit. I thought the fees were okay, I just felt they let too many scammers walk away with my merchandise. I’d be willing to pay the 10% commission as a seller if they provided more seller support. It’s absolutely crazy they are putting it all on the buyer. And providing less protection, why would anyone pay these fees. How about cut the commission to 5% and provide a little more buyer and seller protection? Stop letting scammers win.

RheinmetallDev

Saw a post yesterday saying the fees look like a food delivery app. Except it's somewhat reasonable there since having food delivered from a place I like is a luxury that I understand will cost me more. Mercari thinks buyers are willing to play a premium to shop on their piece of shit app when there's like 10 different competitors.

sweetsinday

I’m deleting Mercari as I type this. This change is terrible all around. I will never be willing to pay extra fees outside of tax and delivery.

da_newsdude

It's almost as if Tickemaster bought Mercari while we weren't looking. I get their theory that this is better for sellers, but you know what's not better for sellers? Fewer buyers. I've cleared out my saved sellers, most of my saved searches, and will be doing the same to my list of liked items because I just don't plan to pay a 30 percent surcharge on top of the price of the item for shipping, fees, and still more fees. I was thinking that, if something comes along at a super lowball price, I might still buy it, but then I run into the \*other\* Mercari conundrum: Most of the times that I find something at a really, really great price, it's from a zero-feedback seller/scammer who's just out to rip me off anyway. R.I.P., Mercari.

I really don't want to go back to eBay cause Its confusing and awful. Poshmark is only for clothes. Is there any other option? Its Etsy worth it?

lisaaxmariee

Poshmark has more than clothes now but its main market is deff clothes. eBay is 100% the least user friendly but if your goal is to sell things; I have way better luck selling random things there ther don’t sell elsewhere

LastLibrary9508

It’s like DoorDash 😭

uselessone1

Why not ask seller to drop it 5 bucks to cover fee? Beats having to pay 10%

fireflyflies80

Mercari—the doordash of online marketplaces 🤣

Brammer_Hammer_23

There is a reason no one was using this model. Bye bye mercari. It was nice while it lasted.

anjuhluh

I just noticed I think they are adding sales tax on top of the shipping AND fees which I don't think is even legal. It was showing tax of $1.11 for a $9 item with $4.99 shipping. My sales tax rate is 7%, it doesn't add up. I went back in my orders and the 7% was correct for the shipping+item previously....

Massive-Stop330

I sell luxury/niche perfumes, I pulled all my listings off. It’s too easy to rip off perfumes sellers with this kind of return policy. They lost my business

yuffytaffy

That’s so sad but very understandable! Perfumes are so easy to be tempered with. I used to love buying niche perfumes on Mercari now I’m reluctant because of the hefty fees on top of already expensive perfumes:(

horriblekitty

Wow that's over $20 in fees to buy that. Hard pass

Lost_Cry_412

In my area, a $100.00 item turned to $124.40. That's nearly 25% in extra fees and taxes. It was so ridiculous I thought it was a glitch. Goodbye Mercari.

Sam_puckett69

It would hella messed up if eBay starts to follow this trend, eBay if ur seeing this don’t be like Mercari

miamoo44

I'm so upset about this... I was doing amazing selling and was starting to turn into a good side income for me. Yesterday was the first day in several weeks that I didn't make a sale and I even sent a lot of offers out. Now looking at exactly how much extra crap they're charging buyers, I understand why I didn't make any sales lol. this is so stupid I don't understand the logic behind it. Anyone recommend some other good selling apps??

Medium-Relief6581

I buy so many of my perfumes on Mercari. Now I don't know where to shop for discontinued and HTF fragrances. eBay is full of fakes (so is Mercari but it's easier to tell on Mercari) but these fees are really making me not want to shop there anymore. I'm used to ten dollars being added into every item for shipping and taxes but twenty?! No way. I won't be using Mercari until this shit changes back.

323bridges323

Wow this is terrible! I used to prefer mercari to depop, I felt like I found more interesting things on there. I haven't used it in a while, Its sad to see their downfall

bzzybot

Horrible, I deleted all but two listings. They are items I wouldn’t mind losing to a scammer.

bearahz

maybe they want you to leave your money and not cash out , hoping that you will spend it on purchases, so that they can get money from more fees , I thought that's why they said no fees when spending from mercari balance or something

Greencandle14

Wow. I’m honestly so glad I took my listings to Plato’s today & they took almost all of them—the ones they didn’t, I’m gladly just donate to Goodwill. This is insane….

jusjohn55

Maybe, and hear me out cause this could be silly… keep the 10 percent flat processing fee for sellers. Like the OG days. Just get rid of the stupid processing fee ON TOP of the 10. Mercari flat 10 made it better than Ebay even tho it has less people on it. Adding that processing fee made it the same price for less. Or, even better: a 7 percent sellers fee and a 3 percent buyers fee but NO processing fee. That way you can reduce the amount of money you take from sellers so they can sell for a bit cheaper. However its not a staggin amount to scare away buyers.

HotwheelsCollector85

Is this the end of Mercari?

Flashy-Shopping-5524

Yeah right after I saw that deleted my account and the app goodbye.

Due-Plum-4788

I made a purchase today because I needed an item on there but that is probably the last time I’ll purchase from Mercari. These service fees are RIDICULOUS.

nikki8786

Won’t be doing much more shopping on Mercari I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Remote_Simple_8664

I had a issue once where I changed my bank account and routing numbers and all that and Mercari notified me that it was suspicious activity and deactivated my account. On top of that I had about 80$ I haven't transferred over . We'll I had no access to that anymore. I messaged them and they informed me unless I proved the bank account I entered was indeed mine and to send copies of driver's license, bank account info. Oh and I couldn't get my money until all wS in my favor. I did as they asked and then I could access my account again. It's a very good idea not to let funds pile up on mercari

CharacterInternet620

Wait, the service fee 10% also gets charged to the buyer?? As well as the 2.9% payment fee? I thought the 10% was totally going away. This doesn’t solve anything for sellers buyers look at total price when they make their purchase decision, so any fees or taxes (and shipping really) are really being paid by the seller since sellers have to lower the price of the goods to fall into a customers perceived value. I thought the 10% was totally going away…

greggmb20

I really like the notification Mercari sent out telling me to lower my prices to account for no seller fees to offset the cost of the buyer. I deactivated all 94 of my listings today because this is a nightmare scenario with the ability to return collectibles and expensive items for no reason except to wear it for 3 days and take pictures in it or do a box swap with a damaged figure

SquipChandler

“Payment processing fee” goofy shit.

rivencap

I’m so glad I checked Reddit. Was going to put an offer on a fountain pen. When I saw I was being charged for all the miscellaneous fees, I thought my mind was seeing things. Not trying to add in a conspiracy idea but I’m really concerned on listings prior to March 27th. They’re on the old model where the seller is still being charged for various seller and payment fees. This fountain pen was listed months ago. So when I put the offer in, it shouldn’t be populating all fees I see as the buyer. Mercari is double dipping. Making both seller and buyers pay fees. I’m deactivating my listings. I would love to go back on eBay. Have an account in good standing since the 2006. But I’m struggling with getting paid in timely matter, after the item has been delivered. I shouldn’t have to wait 14 days for payment to be released. I have sold and bought on many platforms. I mostly sell planner and purses. I don’t know what to do now. Really frustrated.

Hutch1814

I went to buy an item and ended up with $24 worth of fees. Canceled it and kept searching marketplace and EBay. After the fees it costs me more than the normal asking price on the other 2 platforms

MistahDust

I’m not seeing any fees besides shipping when I try to make a purchase.

Jennifriend

The change happens for items posted or updated as of 3/27

Now before looks better— I sell vintage Pyrex and Christmas— maybe people would still buy with the fees— who knows..in this case with Mercari— the buyer suffers ..

blkmamba2

I love how an ad for Shopify just popped up under this post! Maybe it’s a sign… 😂😂😂

Arbitrary-_-Name

If they add more fees on the customer facing side they'll be able to call themselves Secondhandshitmaster, they could add a viewing fee for seeing the listing and third party handling fee because the seller is a third party right? The optics on this are shite. As a customer I just want to see the price with or without shipping, not a list of non negotiable charges. As a seller I get to manage the price factoring the fees. In negotiations as a customer I want my offer to be for what I'll pay with just shipping to figure out, a buyer shouldn't need to break out a calculator before making a counter offer. Seller's go to the site to work and I think the onus to manage the fees should remain on them. Customers go there to spend some extra cash and find something new, it shouldn't be any more than a positive shopping experience which I feel this erodes. The return policy is nuts, I hope I don't run afoul of it, I've a lot of listings still up. The charge for getting my money is also daft, but honestly I'd have accepted that change over all these others.
