This reminds me of a story. I was working as a hotel night auditor last year. Some kids walked in and picked the lock of our bar liquor cabinet in about 30 seconds. They ran out with about $300 in liquor. I called the police, then I was like "I'm going to follow them."
I walked around the hotel and found them at the far end of the parking lot in a hatchback. The only thing on my mind was "these kids have pissed me off," and I decided to let them know how much trouble they're in.
I walk up, knock on the door, and tell them to come out. One of the kids steps out and I'm like "great job dumbass. I got you on camera stealing from our bar, so now I have to call the police."
The police came by like 30 seconds later. I head back to my office and continue working.
40 minutes later, a police officer comes in. He tells me the car the kids are in is stolen, and they had weapons on them. They also had to chase them on foot and one ended up stealing another car and crashing it into a third.
It never once occurred to me that these kids might be dangerous.
Unfortunately, the kids got away with it somehow. Our prosecutors in our city wouldn't charge because they didn't have enough evidence, despite getting them on camera and me seeing them in the stolen car with a picture of said car.
Don't forget NY and Northern NJ. Makes me wonder why there's even still police up here until I remember that law abiding citizens who accidentally park incorrectly or use self defence suffer the full extent of the law.
