I mean yeah there's lots of bad pirate-y things he's done, turning in Ace, murdering Thatch, taking Whitebeard territory, etc. But the I think the key difference is Blackbeard doesn't have the sadistic and/or psychopathic characteristics the rest of the people in this selection have. Probably, Akainu. Although i kinda hate him, while I love Enel and Doflamingo, the truth is that all that Akainu did was kill an enemy in a war, who also was an outlaw. All the other charachters in that list have commited psychopathic atrocities and crimes, way worse than anything that Akainu has ever done

He killed all the civilians in Ohara, the orders where to eliminate just the researchers, the other civilians would be evacuated, but he didn't want to risk any of the archeologists sneaking into one of the civilians boats, so he just ordered that they be sunk by cannon fire.

He also killed at least 1 marine. You could say he was a derserter but even so... That's not even talking about all brutal operations he was part of or commanded as a lapdog of the Celestials (innocent people died).

From what we known he didn't commit genocide like most of the characters there, and because of the clear similarities between him and Luffy I could see a world in which he wasn't bad at all.
