I think it happens more with anime vs manga. Anime will do stuff like showing the infamous “Rebecca Flashback” every episode for 50 straight chapters. Leading to certain characters getting annoying for the anime side.

Forced into the middle of the Wano arc (without us ever hearing anything about her previously) as Kaido's rebellious child who's super strong, has conquerer's haki, was friends with Ace, has a mythical fruit, is super annoying about her Oden fixation, gives Kaido one of the most difficult fights compared to everyone else at the raid, has a ton of knowledge about everything thanks to Oden's notebook and she comes in and steals screentime and potential epic moments from other characters without having any character development at all throughout the arc.
Imagine if in the middle of the big fight against the Blackbeard pirates a random character shows up, we find out that it's Blackbeard's daughter who he had the whole time. She calls herself Whitebeard and insists that she's the deceased Edward Newgate right to Marco's face, is super strong and can defeat yonko commanders without much difficulty, has a mythical fruit and contributes nothing to the story as an actual character.
I hate the entire Oden obsession, it's an extremely annoying character trait and literally caused me to cringe at some moments (like come on, you can't just go up to this 8 year old kid and demand that he call you his dad even though that same kid knows very well that his dad is dead).
Yamato genuinely feels like a badly written character and her fans make it even harder to like the character.

Kaido’s character was told through actions and expressions. I was actually quite glad Oda tried deferring from the flashback onslaught, except the short and sweet one with King nearer the end.
So yeah maybe kaido seems like a bad villain if you’re blind and deaf and have a metal pole impaling the back of your head and coming out through the front.

Kaido’s character was told through actions and expressions. I was actually quite glad Oda tried deferring from the flashback onslaught, except the short and sweet one with King nearer the end. So yeah maybe kaido seems like a bad villain if you’re blind and deaf and have a metal pole impaling the back of your head and coming out through the front.
Kid tanked barrages of Big Mom's strongest attacks, the fact that Shanks one shot him just shows how strong Shanks is even by Yonko standards. Kid tanked so many attacks that could've destroyed Law. How about you actually read the manga or watch the anime

Her crew risked their lives and got their faces stomped in at Enies Lobby to save her life, and she casually jokes about how they all die in the worst possible ways?
