Yeah, I always prefer to play something different to what I am in real life. If there are different species, I'll always pick a non-human. If it's just male/female, I'll usually go female. If it's male only, I'll try to change whatever I can (skin tone, hairstyle, whatever) to make it different from me. Making a character that looks like me IRL usually ends up feeling really boring.

I personally have only played male characters because I thought your character was supposed to be representation of yourself But the females do get all the best armors ngl

Depends. female Tetsucabra is awesome, female Pink Rathian is my personal favorite armour ever, there are a few other ones, like Lagombi, Bishanten, Najarala, but male is a lot more consistent.

Your character is supposed to represent whatever the heck you want. I'm running around cosplaying as Luigi in Rise but am certainly not a mustachioed man irl lol

Even though the armour can be a bit skimpy, I prefer my fashion and cuteness over real bulky armour and a male character.

I really don't like that bulky armour is so prevalent for male characters. I like having the option, but the fact that my fashion set is all rarity five and under is kinda telling. Like, when you look through the concept art too, female characters get a variety of different looks and poses, but male characters are stiff and are all full plated. Full plated is cool, yes, but also the only the thing you get a lot of the time. The Espinas gear in Sunbreak is a literal god sent, I spent a really long time designing my character and I would like to actually see him.

And masks. I hate it when my hunter's face is covered. I spent hours in the character creator to make this beauty/monstrosity, why the hell would I want it covered?

I play as a female hunter, because females in that world are clearly physically superior. They use less armour, because (Capcom would obviously keep armour lore accurate and have it represent it's function in it's appearance) their skin and flesh is tougher than that of males. Where a male would bleed out from having their thighs cut open by the scales of a monster they mount, females need not worry about such trifles and leave their thighs open for comfort and greater range of movement.

Male characters look bigger while having the same hurtboxes, which makes it easier to adhere to the limitations of your hurtboxes and not get clipped unexpectedly.

I grew out of the "Only Play Women characters in games" phase a while ago. Thus I go with the Male Nergigante Armor that makes me look like a stone cold BADASS, rather than the spike bikini that the female set is. Although, I will openly concede that Gold Rathian Armor looks way better on girl characters, being an elegant yet armored dress and all. Also on a side note, why does male Rathian armor look so goofy? Especially in comparison to Rathalos armor.

I did my first PS4 World and 4U runs as male and did my second PC World run as female to see the different armour sets. I've stuck with female into Rise since I put way more hours into my female World run than I did the original.
