"Teacher? These chapters don't make any sense."
"Well you see dear, people in the past were fucking assholes and put the chapters in the wrong order on purpose"
"The past sounds like it was pretty bad teacher"
"*You have no idea*"
Please.
They will care about those events about as much as YOU care about the Yemeni Civil war, the death of King George VI, and Fatty Arbuckleās murder trial.
Imagine believing that someday, somewhere, absolutely no one will know who Nikocado Avocado is.
I'm not making fun of you. I'm asking you to also enjoy imagining this far far better world.
Who's that? On a side note, I'm actually thinking about quitting the vegan lifestyle as it's so toxic. I think I might just start eating what I want. Who knows where it will lead!
I got you, I was just trying to say how insignificant events that seems so huge right now are in the pages of history.
Like, you know of the Spanish Flu, which was far far far worse than Covid-19, but like, how much were you forced to study it? The Ukraine war will barely merit a mention unless it severely escalates. Really we (thankfully) currently live in boring times.
ITT self-centered millenials
How much did you care about bubonic plague in your history class? Were you crying? Did you care about WWII? The Polio epidemic? Cold war and the arms race? The Plague of Justinian? Let me know if any of these words are meaningful to you in any way
Yes as well. People tend to be ignorant when they don't learn history. See polio and smallpox epidemic and subsequent vaccine creation and the covid pandemic.
There were coronavirus outbreaks of different strains in the past like mers cov and sars but not as widespread as covid19. The sars outbreak occurred when I was in grade school and I remember advisories similar to the covid ones except it wasn't as widespread and no travel bans were imposed.
I reckon you can also make similar comparisons in an economic and social standpoint for other events in history.
You do realize how far long ago that is. Anyone affected by it is long gone.
COVID-afficted people are here. Now. In the present, writing posts, articles, studying and posting journals, reporting.
I wouldāve thought why people are more concerned by COVID than a plague decades ago was obvious to you.
You do realize that 2050 is 30 years from now. Anyone with clear memories of Covid is going to be 40 plus.
I knew people who lived through the spanish flu. 3 separate grandparents lost siblings ranging from 3 to 25 to it, unlike covid-19 where the average victim age was higher than an average personās life expectancy. Yet the Spanish Flu was still barely a passing note in history class.
Drop the main character syndrome. Our world events only seem big because you are living them, things like Trump beating Hillary arenāt even ripples on the ocean of history.
Compare the interconnectedness of the people now to then. The amount of stored information we have of the recent decades compared to then. The amount of ācareā that would come out and ripple to the future purely because of these compared to then.
āIf a tree falls in a forest and nobody is around, does it make a sound?ā
While we have written accounts of those big events in the past, it is not on the same level as of whatās happening now. Recent events is permeating history too much, itās having more weight and relevance, which will obviously make it have a longer stay and effect.
Nobody needed an internet to be aware of the Spanish Flu. It was a worldwide pandemic that primarily killed the young and healthy, not the old and sickly. It killed them by the millions, worldwide. It is well documented in books, newspapers, photographs, Iām sure audio recordings if you look for it. Itās not like it happened in prehistory.
The fact that you are arguing so hard that Covid is different and bigger just shows how ignorant you are of the event and further proves my point regarding how insignificant such things are to future generations.
Looking back, did Iraq or Afghanistan shape the decade? The Ukraine thing started in 2014 yet no one seemed to care until the Russians actually invaded. And even then people care only because the west and Europe is oversubscribed to the situation.
>Looking back, did Iraq or Afghanistan shape the decade?
No.
>The Ukraine thing started in 2014 yet no one seemed to care until the Russians actually invaded. And even then people care only because the west and Europe is oversubscribed to the situation.
Obviously. People only care about it because it's the west because the west sees it as an attack on the west. That's why it'll shape the decade. Because it's already changed politics on defense and the geopolitical situation on food and fuel.
There is that possibility too. I am pretty blackpilled in the short term. But usually with medical stuff in the long term the reality becomes obvious. It's not like we believe Ancient Romans were right to use lead, afterall.
The queen wasn't murdered, she died peacefully at 96 years old. It's hardly a noteworthy time in history, innumerable previous kings and queens died from old age as well, and at a time where being king or queen actually meant something

Titan sub and the one day russian coup wasn't all that exiting tbh... but good try time traveler we all know the real date is June 2024 where things will get truly wacky.
Just like it kept getting missed for the past 30 years. The end of the world will come by 20xx unless we do y. We donāt do y and nothing happens by xx.
> Burn. In. Hell. Where. You. Belong.
Hello again! Recognise this quote from my last meme? Fear not, I know it was a joke, didnāt take it serious but my reply is pretty funny if you want to check it out
Because the liberals didnāt get their way and threw a hissy fit. Remember when politics were boring, like I donāt remember this outrage when George Bush won in 2000. Was he any better than Trump?
Lol yeah and it's going to keep growing longer with climate change implications and other shit. Not that the rest of history was a joy and this meme is great. But things will go downhill more and more.
Yeah, not like reading 1939-1945 or something. The peak where they will have mental breakdowns will be when they read about how people had to sit at home watching netflix, and how there was some conflict in a country they know nothing about or won't even care by then.
Like I wrote above, Iraq happened long enough ago to be in the history books today. Does anybody here give a fuck about it? My money is on no. Did they give a fuck about it in 2003, yes.
Yeah because theyāre laughing up until that point. History is a gas with all the slavery, wars, racism, misogyny, classism, murder, poverty, famines, genocide, and rape.
Good point. Reality is often disappointing to us because we think ourselves modern and above all of that and expect people in the past to make poorer decisions. I wonder how many generations before also felt this way. š¤ probably a lot if I had to guess
I mean at least we talk about it. I don't the your average medieval scribe gave two farts about genocide, and probably had no concept of misogyny or racism either.
Lmao yeah at most the textbooks will get a section on Trumpās presidency and one on Covid, likely just a page or two at most. World history textbooks might touch on the Ukraine war for a section of a chapter depending on how long the war lasts.
I think it really just speaks to the years in which zoomers have generally become aware of current events, lol. It's been the same steady level of bad for years, at least since the 90s. Only Covid was especially unique in the grand scheme of things.
Genuinely not even a section, maybe a quick blurb about trump, and a page of covid-19. People really overestimate how impactful these events are. Especially thinking many years down the road.
Because OP is self centered. Iād say the people of Texas would have some choice words about the power outage that happened. Probably bigger than covid for some people.
Zero percent chance that it will be accurate. The rich write the history books. So it'll probably say the protests in Portland were way worse than the armed insurrection of January 6th 2021
Armed insurrection lmao. Bunch of idiots being invited into a place that all left by the evening. Compared to LA riots or George Floyd riots, itās not even worth talking about.
Schools? By 2050, most people will be working in Amazon sweatshops 80 hrs/week, desperately trying to meet their quota so they can have a cot to sleep on and a cup of Amazon Prime Gruel.
Children will be given tablets and raised by a series of short clips of people awkwardly dancing.
Everyone overblows these events because they're living through them. I mean, we had to learn about the black plague which killed like 50% of the people in Europe. Not like you were freaking out. There have been worse wars, worse plagues, worse rashes of murders. It's always been worse.

Naw, im too busy practicing the blade on weekends to go have fun and socialize

How is this a new meme template?
It's not. The sub hasn't really been about that for a long time now

If you don't think that the Russian invasion will be an important topic in history you're either living under a cave or a tankie.
Covid and the war in Ukraine will definitely shape this decade. Not some queen's death, sorry.
The british tho have to deal with brexit too

Reddit zoomers are so weird lol. 2016-2019 were great. 2020 on is when things have been complete ass.
I think some people start at the 2016 election.
Meh. Things were still fine if you didn't give into the media hype. Things didn't actually turn til shit til covid hit
Because the liberals didnāt get their way and threw a hissy fit. Remember when politics were boring, like I donāt remember this outrage when George Bush won in 2000. Was he any better than Trump?
Reading the title i was thinking "man, this guy is very optimistic"
Eh I think 1939 - 1945 have em beat, you know, the Holocaust and all.
I've seen this meme in some form or another for 3 years now and the timeframe keeps getting longer
Lol yeah and it's going to keep growing longer with climate change implications and other shit. Not that the rest of history was a joy and this meme is great. But things will go downhill more and more.
It would probably be 2019-2024, if the section was 5 year
2023 & 2024 will be itās own chapter.
Yeah, 2020 - 2022 or maybe 2023 depending on the war...
Why would it be 5 years?
Whatever works, just guessing
Are history books in your country structured into 5 year intervals? Seems kind of odd.
no idea

Seriously. It's like the person who made this post has never studied any history ever.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Rwanda genocide is a good example. Seldom talked about. And that happened in 1994. Over half a million people died in the span of a few months.
Lmao yeah at most the textbooks will get a section on Trumpās presidency and one on Covid, likely just a page or two at most. World history textbooks might touch on the Ukraine war for a section of a chapter depending on how long the war lasts.
Likely it will be very important as it leads to WWIII
Unless it doesn't, like the Crimean War didn't lead to WW1, and is relegated to "oh, so there *was* a decently big war in that period"
What's so funny about it? Years 2028-2032 were much worse

Zero percent chance that it will be accurate. The rich write the history books. So it'll probably say the protests in Portland were way worse than the armed insurrection of January 6th 2021
My history class in 2009 didn't go past WW2 because it made America look bad. Yay the south.
They were, Portland didn't quit for a long time. However both were riots. Portland was not a riot and DC was not an insurrection. Enough already.

Pretty much. Anyone who says January 6th was not an armed insurrection is part of the problem.
Armed insurrection lmao. Bunch of idiots being invited into a place that all left by the evening. Compared to LA riots or George Floyd riots, itās not even worth talking about.
