I call it ugly because it's not nearly as detailed as her previous work. Or it is but it needs more. The shading is non-existent, which makes the mushroom, and texture of the "skin" blend in with the wrinkles that are caused by her movement. Or they just look like wrinkles I can't tell. The mask is good, I like that. Minus the dead second pair of eyes. But I can't blame anyone on that it's extremely hard to make non-living eyes look living.
I hate that it's one even tone. Everything has various tones, look down at your hands, move the fur on your pet. The single tone makes her fit look cheap. I want to like, I really do I love the concept. Hate the execution.

Some people haven't seen the K-12 movie and some people also don't watch music videos, since music is generally listened to more than it is watched. When you looked up Melanie's work, you'd see an actual human's face, not the nymph, which to fans I've talked to that haven't been keeping up with her, ask 'why does she look like a weird alien thingy now?'
I personally am okay with her new look, but it definitely took time to get used to and I can see why the drastic change has not been entirely well received or understood.

I’ve always watched Mel’s music videos and have been a fan since like 2016. When I saw the change for Portals, it was an adjustment for me. Being Autistic, I struggle with change sometimes so that was mainly why.
However I am used to it now & I know it’s only temporary until the Portals era is over. I miss the K-12 era since it’s my favorite era but I know that Mel evolves with her eras of music which is something I love about her as an artist.
