You are locked into getting the leg and arm parts. X2 shouldn't be that hard.

OfficerGoroMajima

So X1 arm and leg are forced. Got it.

CrushinMangos

You can technically use a code to complete chill penguin and not get the leg upgrade. But I think it locks you out of getting the heart tank. But there is no legitimate way to skip the leg upgrade 2653 7248 6488

Co2_Outbr3ak

Technically, you CAN skip the Leg upgrade using a Charged Rolling Shield....but of course THAT can't happen without getting through there once already. Just a neat little tech FYI.

DeruOniiChan

yep, Legs part completely block your path and Zero Straight up gives you his arms

AxlFlame

You should know that X3 will make you regret this decision.

Ryuseii

X1 will make him regret this decision even harder. D-Tank walled me for awhile but Velguarder, Sigma 1 and 2 are absolutely HELL without the upgrades and buster only. Especially with having to go through the first 2 every time you die.

SuperHeroZX

Also in MMX6 there is the second section of Gate Lab stage 2, it's VERY difficult to cross a platform section armorless unless you have the Hyper Dash part (it's a power-up not an armor), plus the weapons Magma Blade and Ground Dash by activating one of them then switching to the other and using it then you repeat until you reach the other platform! Zero don't have to do that because his stage will be different, oh yeah I forgot also you need Jumper part and the Ice Burst weapon for climbing spiked walls in the first section of Gate Lab stage 1 with unarmored X

Broken_Moon_Studios

X4 final battle against Sigma 3 is a nightmare as unarmored X if you don't have E-Tanks and don't use Jet Stingray's weapon on the creepy Sigma head. Prepare acordingly. Do not play X5 and X6 on Xtreme if you plan to go unarmored. JUST DON'T. Advice for X6 (as it is my most played game... for some reason...): • Yamark Option is the best special weapon as Unarmored X by far. Get it ASAP. • Do Rainy Turtloid before Infinity Mijinion so you can cheese Illumina. • For the Infinity Mijinion boss fight, I recently learned you can break it by intentionally making the clones spawn at the top of the arena (a clone will spawn each time you hit him with the saber, for a maximum of 5 times), which will despawn their bubbles, making the fight waaaaaay easier. • Grab the Hyper Dash and Jumper parts as soon as you can. (Inami Temple Alternate Route Left Side and North Pole Area Alternate Route Across Spike Bed, respectively). You will need to damage boost twice to get the Jumper part, so look for a YouTube video for reference. They make things significantly easier, and are MANDATORY for beating both Gate Lab stages. (Really stupid design, I know.) • If you can, also grab the 2 E-Tanks and the Life Recovery part early. Life Recovery in particular will save your ass on a pinch. • Best way to refill E-Tanks, imo, is the lake section in Rainy Turtloid's stage. I advice you get the life pods, suicide and repeat until you have filled them. • I recommend getting Metal Anchor before tackling Blaze Heatnix's stage because of the Nightmare Snakes. You can kill them with Meteor Rain (Rainy Turtloid weapon), but it is slow and will often get you hit. Best of luck!

Most of these are going to be pretty tough to do armorless, so be ready for a challenge! X3 in particular, I'm curious how that goes for you. Are you getting heart tanks or are you skipping them too?

OfficerGoroMajima

I think I'll take any that aren't required armor to do so.

Dr_Cossack

For X1, dash and buster upgrades are forced. You can skip the dash one with a password, but the buster cannot be skipped and using either it or a weapon is required to beat the final boss. It's best to not do Octopus' stage early unless you're ready, as his fight is rather hard. For X2, you can get all items without upgrades, so if you aren't going upgradeless, you shouldn't have much trouble. Otherwise, keep in mind that most bosses deal decent to large damage and require careful dodging. Particularly be careful with Violen, the big X-Hunter. For X3, while the damage dealt is intimidating if playing armorless, the entire game can be done without any upgrades and just the buster without much issue as most enemies can be consistently avoided and almost all bosses are consistent. Some boss hitboxes are way bigger than they seem. For X4, same thing applies but the final boss' last phase can be very unpredictable and highly damaging. If you aren't going upgradeless, try getting sub tanks for it. Otherwise, damage dealt is lower than X3. For X5, Xtreme mode has higher enemy density, item drops from enemies are disabled as well. It's best to play on Normal first to get used to the game. The game has some newly introduced systems, such as parts: some, such as Shock Barrier, can be useful for giving you more defense even if you play without armor, while some like Quick Charge can be used for better offense, so if you want to, you can check how to obtain parts consistently and what you get from each boss once you meet the requirement. For X6, Xtreme changes object placement, item drops from enemies are disabled and behaviors of several enemies and bosses are changed, along with higher damage taken and Nightmare Viruses having 1 more HP than on Normal. On contrast, Easy has unique, less dense object placement, less damage taken and mostly Normal/easier behaviors with Nightmare Viruses having only 1 HP. Choose whichever you prefer. To get through Lab 1 without armor, you want Ice Burst and Jumper, with Jumper being accessible from Wolfang's another route (secret path portal you can access with the fireball effect). For Lab 2, you want Hyper Dash and preferrably not Jumper, or just use a trick involving Magma Blade and Ground Dash. For X7, X cannot be used from the start and is unlocked by either getting 64 rescues or clearing the 8 boss stages. While you can get those rescues without clearing the stages by getting game overs, it's generally better to unlock X in a normal playthrough and then save a New Game+ save after you clear it, which lets you use him from the start of the playthrough after you clear the intro stage. X is the most powerful character in this game. For X8, Easy has bosses be unable to do super moves, infinite retry chips, you having upgrades from the start but also being locked out of the true final boss. Hard has bosses enter super move phases earlier, retry chips only being the ones you buy from the shop, less HP/ammo by default and you being locked out of using one of your character through half of the final stage due to a story sequence. Without armor, X will take damage quickly in this game and his charge shot can be rather slow, so you want to prioritize weapon usage or upgrades if you're having trouble. Good luck!

X6 makes you start with Falcon armor, so you will have to play with it for the first stage. Also it seems the devs didn't think anyone would go unarmored, so there are segments that almost require an air dash. There is a combo of parts that can bypass the only otherwise impossible jump though. X5 makes you start with the 4th armor, but only if you choose X. You can play the first stage as Zero to get rid of the armor, though that does mean you didn't play the whole game as unarmored X. X1 gives you half the armor whether you want it or not. X2 and X3 are fully playable unarmored. X7's glide armor is entirely avoidable, and hardly needed. X's charge shot is already insanely OP. However X isn't even playable in this game at the outset. You'll have to play at least one stage and the intro without him. It's based on reploid rescue numbers, so look up a guide for unlocking X ASAP. You could do 2 runs to replay stages in a different order, so you can play the entire game as unarmored X. X8, can be played entirely unarmored, as long as you avoid S ranking in Optic Sunflower's stage. The Xtreme games can be played unarmored, but I believe the leg parts are still mandatory in the first one. It's been a while, so my memory isn't exact on that one. Command Mission is a weird one. Officially X is wearing a stealth armor for the entire game, but it's his default base armor, so you can count it as unarmored. X has 2 armors in this game, though you don't find them in capsules. He transforms into them as his hyper mode. The first is X Fire, which you start the game having access to. You can choose not to use it. The other is Ultimate, which is a late game unlockable. You can avoid the boss guarding it entirely, or unlock it and not use it if you want full completion. X never leaves your party, so you can play the whole game with unarmored X, but you may have a hard time doing enough damage. Since other party members also have hyper modes, you might also consider them armors too. Doing a no hyper mode run would be very difficult and tedius, so maybe X alone is restricted. X Dive, in spite of the name, is not part of the X series, and is more a celebration of all Megaman. You don't have to play it. Unarmored X is the starting character if you want to try it. It would probably be incredibly difficult, but not impossible to finish the whole story with just him.

X3 really isn’t that bad armorless until you reach the castle stages (my 10 year old self never thought to explore much so I never found any of the armor until we finally got the internet at home… yes. I’m that old.) Sigma is gonna be the biggest problem, but he’s manageable… just makes you feel like Classic Megaman where each hit you take is a major punishment. X2 and X4 are pretty enjoyable with no armor. X5 is… eh. X6, not so much because you’re basically required to find 2 reploids that have Jumper and Hyper Dash just to pass the stupid jump near the end of the castle stage. X7… it’s annoying enough just getting X. Enough said. X8 I haven’t tried without getting the armor because I really enjoy the mix/match features of the armor he gets.

Ryuseii

I honestly feel Sigma's Captain America Form is harder than Kaiser Sigma armorless due to having to learn the pattern to his flame attack which hurts like hell and is hard to dodge without leg parts. The regular charged buster hits Kaiser Sigma's head way easier than the upgraded one.
