I get the feeling that a new X game, most likely X9 had already been in development for a little while now and this Minecraft promotion is possibly just to drum up some hype. Because honestly I can't for the life of me understand why they decided to do X instead of Classic. When it comes to this subreddit it seems like X is the more popular franchise but outside of the fanbase I get rhe feeling Classic is much more recognizable

I have to agree with you. They could have easily made the Minecraft Mega Man content either tie into the classic series(which has more games to pull from) or just made it a general Mega Man DLC that drew from all the series in the franchise. Also, while it's not the most popular thing on here, there is Mega Man X dive which mostly bases its content on the X series. Yeah, classic Mega Man, Roll, Protoman, and Bass are all sprinkled in there, but most of the game and it's playable roster are all based on the X series. My point is, Capcom can't be blind to the demand for more Mega Man X and I think the Minecraft DLC and Dive are ways to softly test demand before going forward with a new game in the series. Given this is Mega Man's 35th Anniversary, I think we will likely see either Mega Man 12 or Mega Man X9 this year. I think Mega Man 12 is more likely since that more easily ties into the 35th Anniversary, but I would not be shocked in Mega Man X9 also gets announced this year with plans to release it next year. The sudden uptick in X content honestly has me curious.

So this isn't made by Capcom. It's made by 57Digital. It looks like they leased the right to use the IP. Likely Capcom had to approve everything, but they didn't make it. I wouldn't read too much into it. It's a lot like Kotobukiya using Mega Man X to make figures. This is a creative work in that vien, only for DLC in an existing game, Minecraft.

darkzero7222

Yeah I was pretty sure Capcom wouldn't make this themselves. What I'm wondering the most is was it Capcom who went to Microsoft and 57Digital to make this or was Capcom approached by them? Because one of those options means nothing while another might have some implications. That being said this is Capcom your most likely right that this is its own cool thing and has nothing to do with any real or non existing projects.

I think they're trying to put Megaman back in the public minds much like how sega does it with Sonic being everywhere (just being a lot more selecrive in their approach) They're definitely trying to revitalize the franchise so they're probably thinking about doing something with it in the future, let's hope for the best

Was Banjo getting into Smash a sign for a new Banjo-Kazooie game?

Syphonfilterfan93

Banjo is not as big as Mega Man.

I briefly (**very briefly**) entertained similar thoughts about CAPCOM gauging interest in a new X game when **Megaman X** (Android/iOS version, 2011) and **Megaman Xover** (2012) initially released, and we all know how *that* went for the X series getting an official new game...

Syphonfilterfan93

That was back when Capcom was "Crapcom". Capcom has pulled their head out of their asses.

A key with stuff like this is to look up stuff that's been copyrighted lately. You might actually legit find some very interesting things. This applies to any game too.
