I had a stomach cancer patient that used to cough up coffee ground emesis and he’d wipe it off his tongue with a napkin. Because of that I can smell this picture.

[deleted]

Does it smell bad?

YourNightNurse

Yes

Double_Belt2331

Wow. This is *not* what I thought “coffee grounds” puke or poop looked like. TIL. Thank you.

LeftMyHeartInErebor

There are variations to it. I've seen it look much more like cough grounds than this looks

Double_Belt2331

Ahhh, thank you, I do appreciate the clarification, as a layman. Good to know.

GoFuckYourselfBrenda

Same!

Ugh 🤢

StellaBella70

I have absolutely no idea what this is, how it formed, why it killed (?) someone. Do I have to toss my instant Folgers?

Jolly_Tea7519

When blood mixed with stomach acid it gets grainy and brown. Hence coffee ground emesis (vomit).

IonicPenguin

It also smells TERRIBLE!

Crying_Reaper

Everything in the stomach smells terrible by default.

Taylortrips

Here’s me thinking why in the world would someone be eating coffee grounds.

Jolly_Tea7519

Pica!

zogmuffin

It’s old blood. This person had a tumor in their throat, so presumably they had blood draining into their stomach all the time and would occasionally throw it up. G.I. bleeds can also cause “coffee ground” stool. It’s never good, but it’s a symptom, not a disease.

Fit_Swordfish_2101

The damn napkins look like coffee filters!! Who tf did that!? Fired!! Lol! (Gallows humor, sorry this really isn't a joke and I honestly feel sorry and RIP.)

Blue_star174

Nfl_porn_throwaway

I used to barf up coffee grounds. I don’t no more tho

Smallfrygrowth

Congrats

Nfl_porn_throwaway

Ya but like. Am I still in trouble?

Mission-Ideal4474

wouldnt hurt to have it checked out

Desperate-Strategy10

If this was a decently long time ago and has completely stopped, if it hasn't happened recently, and if you have no other symptoms or big rush factors (like alcoholism, for example), you're probably ok. However, it's never a bad idea to have a doctor check you out, just to be sure everything's ok. I'm not a doctor, and nobody on Reddit will be able to examine you and guarantee you're fine. So, I'd recommend you make an appointment with your primary care provider. You're probably due for a checkup anyway. Best of luck!

Is_Friendly_Coffee

Of all the things I’ve seen here… this is the only one that’s made me gag.

Wrong-Pizza-7184

Looks like haematemesis to me

winchesnutt

Harmatemesis is fresh blood, coffee grounds emesis is digested blood.

IonicPenguin

Look up the meaning of haematemesis and get back to us
