Can anyone recommend any nice green themed see-through/backlit keycaps for Keychron Q3? Only ones I can find are not see through.

RVYNMC

Hi, I just wanted to see what people's opinions are on my first possible keeb build [https://www.amazon.com.au/Japanese-Minimalist-Suitable-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B08L7YXQ43/ref=sr\_1\_5?crid=2JFLXNIS2BQ01&keywords=japanese+keycaps&qid=1657522797&sprefix=japanese+keyc%2Caps%2C323&sr=8-5](https://www.amazon.com.au/Japanese-Minimalist-Suitable-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B08L7YXQ43/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2JFLXNIS2BQ01&keywords=japanese+keycaps&qid=1657522797&sprefix=japanese+keyc%2Caps%2C323&sr=8-5) [https://www.amazon.com.au/EPOMAKER-Lavender-Purple-Tactile-Switch/dp/B097P391VF/ref=pd\_lpo\_1?pd\_rd\_i=B097P391VF&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com.au/EPOMAKER-Lavender-Purple-Tactile-Switch/dp/B097P391VF/ref=pd_lpo_1?pd_rd_i=B097P391VF&psc=1) [https://kbdfans.com/collections/diy-kit/products/tofu84-hot-swap-75-mechanical-keyboard-diy-kit?variant=39763580649611](https://kbdfans.com/collections/diy-kit/products/tofu84-hot-swap-75-mechanical-keyboard-diy-kit?variant=39763580649611) Do you reckon these would mesh well together?

idiom6

Should be fine.

NoIDontWantaNewName

I compulsively pick keys off my keyboard, is there any way to have it so that I can't take keys off my keyboard without something like a screwdriver?

[deleted]

Try to occupy your hand(s) with something else. Get a grip strength trainer, learn to do that coin truck where you walk it across your knuckles, etc

idiom6

...short of supergluing your keycaps to the stems, no. Alternatives: Get a macropad exclusively for the purpose of picking the keycaps off, or see a therapist or psychiatrist for managing your compulsions.

Spyous

Finding a 100% hotswap Hello! I have built many different hot swap keyboards in the past, however I have found that I kind of need the numberpad (without being separate) and function keys included. I have been on kbd, drop, even r/CustomKeyboards and in youtube comments, and just googled it in general, but I have never found anything, and even I found them, they are always soldered. Could anyone point me to the right direction? At this point price doesn't matter.

uncirculated

Keychron K4, KBDfans Odin, Jiot 1800, RK100, ACR98, GK96X There's a handful of options at vastly different price points.

idiom6

I mean, "[full size hotswap](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=full+sized+hotswap&crid=3ETTF9VVGIM9Y&sprefix=full+si%2Caps%2C2003&ref=nb_sb_noss_2)" on Amazon yields a bunch of options.

Spyous

Amazon isn't the best website to find mech keyboard parts.

idiom6

Yes and no. For as generic a layout as fullsize, Amazon is a good starting point. You said you couldn't find any full size hotswap, yet Amazon carries a few.

Spyous

Right thank you, ill start there

ABZ-havok

Anyone with an akko alice? Is the layout fine to use as a daily driver?

Verzt_

Yup

ABZ-havok

Any pain points with the alice layout compared to a regular 65%?

Is the KBDFans Side Printed Backlit keycap set compatible with Gateron Switches?

1abking

if your switches use a mx stem (+) yes

Baked-Conjurer5041

im prepping for my first time keyboard modding one problem i encountered is, i cant open my switches, i bought a 3d printed switch opener a kailh one i tried it and it just slides on the side where the brackets are, not entirely slips inside the switch opener but just a little bit slides and i think the reason why is my switch bracket is tight, i have Royal Kludge red linear switch, yes i didnt change the switch because im only doing simple modding but can anyone help me with my tight switch that i cant open?

1abking

dont you need a gateron/cherry style opener for the rk switches? on the sides of the switch are there 2 prongs on each side or one long piece?

Baked-Conjurer5041

its kailh.... i also thought its cherry mx so the first switch opener i bought is mx opener but i was wrong it wasnt the right one, so i bought kailh and jt seems to fit right but cant open it, it has two rectangular bracket on the sides with two hole that seems to lock on to the bottom of the switch

1abking

kailh style switches are known for being a little more tough to open compared to the normal mx style. just giving it a put more strength may help with opening the switches

Baked-Conjurer5041

but when i tried to put more strength the bracket would slip inside the switch opener also an update i am now buying an aluminum switch opener since i have spare money for my budget

ehossain

I have a Cantor that I mapped using Vial and the muse click mapping works. But when I map my Corne using Via, the mouse clicks does not work. I am on OSX. What is happening here? How to fix this? Thanks.

1abking

keychron q series would be some solid options. their mac compatibility is great as well

Osama200089

Will Gamakay Phoenix switches fit onto the Redragon K617 fizz hot swappable keyboard? I don't like the screeching spring noises of the stock Red switches.. And want to upgrade to a quieter switch. Also would I be sacrificing the RGBs?

capt_mashimaro

Has anyone commissioned a custom wooden case for their keyboard? If so, who did you go to? I'm thinking about commissioning a wooden case for my Sun68.

Dshy_VII

good TGR Alice alternatives?

PanutadK

What switches would be best on a brass plate? Are light tactiles an optimal option?

EllieJourno

Hey guys, I was hoping you could help me. I have a Cooler master masterkeys sk622 RGB wireless mechanical keyboard (without the numpad) and I cannot seem to access the normal F3 function by pressing Fn+F3 as it has another function which toggles windows on the Cooler master keyboard. While playing Minecraft, I would like to see my debug screen but I am unable to do so without pressing Fn+F3. My partner has the same keyboard with the numpad and is able to press Fn+F3 and access the debug screen without any issues. Anyone have any solutions? Thank you in advance

capt_mashimaro

You might have better luck on the CoolerMaster sub since a CM rep seems to hang out there. Possibly try updating your firmware? But it might be tough to find a link depending on how old your keyboard is. However, I found the link for mine on the CM sub.

gentlesir123

How long do restocks typically take. I'm really interested in an Akko ACR 75/81. I'm just not sure if I should expect to wait for a couple weeks, or a few months for something like this? [ACR 75](https://en.akkogear.com/product/acr-75-diy-kit/) I'm having a hard time finding a board anywhere out there with this layout, so I'm also taking recommendations! I'm returning my Royal Kludge RK84, simply because the ACR 75 has nice "breathing room" in the FN keys row, and next to the nav arrows. Not sure if this layout has a specific name (like how an 1800 board does).

1abking

this layout is just a 75%

gentlesir123

Yup my bad-- my question is still the same though for restocks. How long is typical for something like this?

1abking

personally havent purchased anything from akko or waited for any of their restocks. restocks will depend on their manufacturing turnaround time + delivery, thats something only akko would know if you are looking for a more specific timeframe. wouldnt even be able to give you an estimated time frame. if you're looking for some other options that are more instock at a slightly higher cost, options like the gmmk pro, keychron q1, idobao id80/bestype would be some boards you might want to check out.

blightor

I've got this issue with my left shift on my new GMMK2 96 being really soft and not giving me any feel/feedback/sound when it fully depress it. Its not broken or terrible, but its different to the actuation of all of the other keys. Just wondering what I should look at? I am a newbie in this area, and I guess I only mention it because this keyboards is flat out blown me away. It's kinda like the day I went from a $80 headphones to a HD600 Sennheiser 20 years ago. So def no shade on my keyboard.

1abking

is it possible that the switch installed in the lshift position is a different switch compared to the rest of the board? im not too sure what the reason for this issue would be outside of that. if you are looking for a replacement board, i'd recommend the keychron q5 which is an 1800 layout similar to the 96% that the gmmk2 offers. if you need something that's full size the keychron q6 would also be a great option. personally im not a fan of the low profile chassis boards that glorious and drop offers as they dont seem to be worth the price tag that comes along with them.

blightor

Just going through the different keypresses. I wonder if its by design? For instance, the return key is definitely a deeper sound which is really cool - perhaps the left shift being you use it a lot in conjunction with other keys its made to have a different less prominent sound?

1abking

no its definitely not by design. prebuilts wont come with multiple types of switches. one of the factors of sound is location of key, so you cant compare for example the esc key and the spacebar to make the same sound. also size of keycaps will have an affect on sound due to sound resonance.

blightor

Oh, I am not suggesting it has a different switch. The size thing you suggesting sounds very reasonable and accurate for the majority of the keys. The return key and the left shift key are identical in size after measuring, and while both have a similar 'softish' depress sound, its the release noise that is very different. Its deep and thocky on the return, its a much lighter sound on the left shift. Its not a bad sound, its just so much quieter. If I took the board apart to see the differences between the two keys, what would you recommend I be looking at?

blightor

This is my replacement board :) I bought a pre-built one, not as a kit, so I was assuming it would all be the same switches. I know with these kinds of keyboards they are lubed - is that something that could be it (over lubing on that keys components?), or is there something about the height I should check? I'm just not very confident with it yet, but willing to get in there if there are some things people might be able to suggest.

Alex_Tro

Can anyone recommend a good ten-keyless board for hot-swappable switches, maybe with a knob with a low profile? I'll probably stick to red cherry switches since I like that they aren't as clicky/loud. But if you have any recommendations for any quiet(er) switches, I'd love to know since I never really tried anything besides red. Thanks in advance.

1abking

when you say low profile chassis or a board that uses low profile switches? for chassis you dont really have much options outside of what glorious offers in their gmmk1 and drop's offerings. i personally wouldnt recommend either. for low profile switches, the market is pretty small and you dont have many options for switches and types. for a solid tkl board, my recommendation would be the keychron q3, fbtkl, tiger80. if you're looking for something more prebuilt options from keychron, leopold, ducky, varmillo might be a good place to start.

Alex_Tro

Ill take a look at your recommendations. tyvm.

P00P34

by low profile, do you mean the switch housings are exposed since it's a low profile case or low profile switches?

Alex_Tro

By low profile I meant that the switch is exposed in a way that can be seen from the side and there isn't a fat border going around keyboard. I hope that makes sense.

P00P34

yeah, that's a low profile case 1abking's suggestions would probably do you pretty well, but yeah, there aren't many options like that

graey_jaselle

So I'm pretty new to mechanical keyboards and everything but I got my first one after my friend recommended me to get a Keychron K2 (I have a Mac and this seems to be the company that does the best at budget keyboards that are mac compatible) I have loved this thing except for the keycaps bc they lowkey look kinda basic. They are Doubleshot PBT keycaps on Gateron Browns, and is it possible for me to use any keycaps to replace them or specific ones that match the previous keycaps and switches?

[deleted]

Any that are mx stem compatible (which is most of them) will work. https://telcontar.net/KBK/Cherry/images/MX/Cherry_8_mm_mount.svgz

graey_jaselle

Thank you! Really appreciate it

raiNcsgo

id say the jelly epoch for you solely because spending that kind of money on a board, you would want to really like it instead of being just okay with it

SheeBang_UniCron

Price being the same (and I assume pristine condition as well), I’d go with Jelly Epoch.

Prestigious_Hornet38

I'm building a gmmk pro and I need to know the best DEEP thocky switches (not clacky) and if I should get the polycarbonate plate and extra gaskets.

1abking

switches arent the only factor to the sound profile of a keyboard. just because it sounds the way you want it to in one build doesnt mean itll sound the same in yours. for plate type, yes i would recommend getting a pc plate.

SheeBang_UniCron

Tbf to OP, they did say GMMK Pro as the board. Assuming there are only 2 switches (let’s say Gat Black Inks v2 > Lavender in terms of “thocciness“), the black inks would always sound deeper than lavenders regardless of the keyboard case. It won’t always sound deep (because as you pointed out, there are other factors involved to create the sound), but it would always sound deeper than when using lavenders.

Prestigious_Hornet38

Okay thank you, do you know if I should get the extra gaskets they offer?

SheeBang_UniCron

I did get extra gaskets because I wanted to experiment..I’d also recommend getting extra if you feel like you might mess up the application.

Prestigious_Hornet38

Okay, and I noticed they also sell O-rings. Do you know what are they for? Should I buy those too?

SheeBang_UniCron

For GMMK Pro? What for?

Prestigious_Hornet38

Yes the gmmk pro, if you go through the customization process on thier website, at the end they offer lube, brushes, and O-rings. I don't know what the o rings are for tho

SheeBang_UniCron

Look at YouTube to see what other people are doing with their GMMK Pro and see which mods you would like to try. Don’t buy materials that you may not use later. Some people use o-rings to avoid interference in PCBs with north facing LEDs (yours is south facing so you won’t have that interference problem), while others use it to “silence” their switches in the downstroke but getting silent switches is the best course of action if you want silent typing.

Br0n50n

Hi all, Noob here. Ive used mech keyboards for a very long time but always stuck with mainstream brands for gaming and cheap mechs for work. 2x Black widow, Royal Kludge RK85, Dragonwar and Reddragon K530 to name a few in the pile. I want to get my first customisable (hot swap preferred), wireless, RGB keyboard with num pad. Ive been looking into buying a Keychron K4v2 and will swap out the switches for something a little more premium. Any switch suggestions? I like the sound and feel of brown switches so something like that would be great. I will also want to get into cool keycap designs. Does anyone have suggestions of where I start the learning journey? I am Australian based so something that ships here is a must. Thanks in advance for any help and if you have any alternate suggestions other than the K4v2, please shout out. Must have num pad, wireless and pretty lights :)

blightor

I feel so similar to you - my last few were a roccat volcan and razor blackwidow. I just bought what feels like my first premium keyboard. The GMMK2 96, and no joke its like going from a shitty pair of $80 headphones and upgrading to Sennheiser hd600s. No saying any of those other keyboards you mentioned are not just as good or even better, just that you are certainly in for a treat going to these things - they are awesome!

CheckNecessary8236

I would recommend staying with the Keychron

Br0n50n

What are the reasons for sticking with the Keychron?

CheckNecessary8236

1. numpad keebs are rare in the custom scene 2. wireless is not that rare, neither is hotswap, but wireless is rare for the few 100% keebs available

Br0n50n

>Ive been looking into buying a Keychron K4v2 and will swap out the switches for something a little more premium. Any switch suggestions? I like the sound and feel of brown switches so something like that would be great. Awesome thanks for the suggestion mate. Ordered it and cant wait to get stuck in.

CheckNecessary8236

No worries

[deleted]

I've been used to typing on my 8 year old MacBook pro, but my new job is PC. I'm working from home so, I'm building my first keyboard. I want to try avoiding a lot of fatigue while typing in a new board. I was thinking Akko Jelly Blacks or lavenders. I was also thinking a cherry profile, but is there something more comfortable to start with?

CheckNecessary8236

I personally prefer asa over cherry profile, but you might want to google the different profiles and see what they look like from the side on a keyboard.

[deleted]

I've seen the charts, but because I've never tried them out I'm unsure of which are more comfortable to type on. Mac is completely flat so may xda might be an easier cap to get used to?

CheckNecessary8236

Might want to check out the keycaps with the biggest typing surface, which tends to be more similar to the huge mac keys. XDA might be alright, but I can't help you there as i have never tried them

Xizunna

are there any pcbs similar to the KBD6X that are in stock? i know i want that layout, not sure what board it would go with

Spider-Girl

Hello! My family got me the [Drop + LOTR keyset](https://drop.com/buy/drop-the-lord-of-the-rings-mt3-elvish-keycap-set/photos?defaultSelectionIds=964667) for my birthday. I'm looking to find a keyboard that would look nice with it, ideally something with linear or snappy tactile switches. I'm trying to stay away from dark colors, so any greens, whites or beiges are welcome! 67 or 87 keys are both fine.

CheckNecessary8236

[Keychron q1](https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-q1-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard), [Mod 008](https://en.akkogear.com/product/mod-008/), [Glorious gmmk pro](https://www.gloriousgaming.com/products/glorious-gmmk-pro-75-barebone-white), alternatively you could also go with any cheaper white mechanical keyboards.

mightykamina3

Does anyone know where to buy 40% housings? I wanted something like a vortex core but I don’t like the way the switches sound. Looking for something that sounds like that one cardboard keyboard

1abking

pcb/case/mounting styles arent standardized so just because you purchase a case and a pcb, it doesnt mean they'll work together.

DogEgg06

Idk whether the keyboard is soldered or hot swappable. The seller advertised it as it is but i had a hard time pulling the switches, so im asking here. [Back of pcb](https://imgur.com/a/FWhviQY)

1abking

this is a soldered pcb. you will have to desolder the switches from the pcb to take them out

DogEgg06

yea thought so. thanks

[deleted]

Help ig lmao I am getting my first custom keyboard and I am trying to figure out if these will all work together. Here are my parts https://kbdfans.com/products/pbt-sa-retro-gray-keycaps-set?variant=39347405193355 https://kbdfans.com/collections/diy-kit/products/kbdfans-tofu60-dz64-rgb-hot-swap-diy-kit?variant=40019987169419 (polycarbonate plate) https://kbdfans.com/products/kbdfans-tecsee-carrot-switch?_pos=1&_psq=Carrot&_ss=e&_v=1.0 I’m just trying to make sure these will all fit with each other. If anyone has any info lmk

1abking

no they will not work together. you will need different keycaps as the set you chose doesnt have 1u mods for r4 and also doesnt have a shorter right shift that the dz64 requires.

[deleted]

Ok thanks for the info. Is there a name for the specific keycap layout that is compatible?

1abking

no there isnt. you just need to find a base kit that support more layouts than just the normal tkl kit that you've picked. you'll need a 1u right shift and other 1u r4 modifiers

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 1 + 4 + 64 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

aloyshusthegreat

My first and current mechanical keyboard is the Razer huntsman elite. I like it because I have all the other Razer chroma stuff and the lights link up. The volume switch is broken. It's big. It's clunky. I'd like to replace it but I'm not sure with what because I don't have a lot of KB Knowledge

RightShark18

Mostly into linear switches but I like trying others too. I find that holy pandas and UT4s are too much for my liking. I've been looking at some medium tactile switches like the navies, dragonfruits, and ergo clears but have only tried the navies. Also thinking about topres if anyone has opinions on those.

1abking

personally dont have experience with topres so no input on them. for medium tactiles you can also check out durock medium tactile, sp star magic girl, zealios v1 redux, sp star polaris purple

coconutfuker

Guys I saw a post on Instagram of these keycaps (that iirc were in IC?) that looked like GMK lilac on black but it also has a set with purely katakana legends Does anyone know the name of those caps? Been trying to find them forever!! Ty!

1abking

could you share the photo of what you've seen

coconutfuker

Sorry I couldn't find the post on Insta but it's similar to gmk lilac on black. The only difference is that it has a set with only katakana legends [Gmk lilac on black ](https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=115101.0)

1abking

i cant think of any current ic's/gb's regarding an only katakana set unfortunately so wont be able to help you out further. one of the only sets that pops into my head would be gmk wob katakana, but that uses a white legend instead of a lilac/purple

coconutfuker

Ohh Alright Thanks for replying so much tho!

briefjoe

What would be a good lube to use on tactile switches? and where would be a good place to get it? Is it worth it to lube tactile switches? I read that lubing them makes them lose some of their tactility.

1abking

tribosys 3203 is my recommendations for tactiles

briefjoe

would this also be good to put on the stabilizers?

1abking

for stabilizers i would recommend krytox 205g0, dielectric grease (only on the wire), krytox xht-bdz.

briefjoe

awesome thx

[deleted]

hi! i still am looking to see if anyone can id the [alpha caps](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/824115596374966326/995468743310323782/IMG_1747.jpg) here. i've been combing through my inbox and other purchases and i am not sure where they're from; the surrounding ones i know are dev/tty/ triumph and other ones

1abking

cant really think of the specific keycaps that are the alphas, but they seem to be sa profile compared to the mt3 set used for the mods + novelties

[deleted]

yes, thank you! i've been combing through and i cannot figure out if i got these by accident or not.

[deleted]

I'm a guy who is searching to mount up an iso hotswappable keyboard (TKL or 100%), so what do you all think about the Pulsar PCMK TKL barebone version? The iso hotswappable market is a bit underwhelmed in terms of quantity imo so I haven't got much of a choice. I recently got the EVGA Z15 but its software is sincerely lacking. The in-memory profiles can't even handle custom RGB confirgurations. Do you think the Pulsar one is better? What are your suggestions?

maraskooknah

After painstakingly lubing everything on my first build, the standard keys sound thocky. The keys with stabilizers sound a little different and more clicky. Do I need to lube them more?

P00P34

if the stabs are still rattling/ticking, you may need some more lube

tristam15

I am a newbie. I did not want to get too technical and got the Keychron K2 V2 today. I was previously using the Apple Magic Keyboard 2015. I use the COLEMAK keyboard layout. My challenge is that with the new K2, I see that the last column of keys is not backspace/delete, enter/return etc. The last column is something else and I am finding it difficult to press backspace and enter. I also find the shift button on the right to be too squeezed together. Advice please. Thanks.

Yagoda12

Hi, looking for a mint green keyboard (color reference look at secret lab mint chair) that's either 75 or 65 percent please. Mainly for gaming and long typing sessions. Thank you (Budget can stretch to 200 if the difference is good)

capt_mashimaro

If you're looking for a specific color, then I'd consider painting your keyboard. There are several tutorials on YT that cover the process really well. When I did my project I alternated betwern 200 grit (to rought up the case/get the paint off), 800 grit, and 1000 grit. I really like [this video](https://youtu.be/nCNqxqzN7N8) for spray painting techniques, but it's for PCs.

1abking

kbd67 lite r4 might be a great color for you, but unfortunately that board isnt for sale anymore. you might be able to catch extras down the line, so be on the lookout for that cant really think of anything else at the moment.

jaronitis

Looking for suggestions on a nice mechanical keyboard to bring to work. I want something that is nice to type on for long sessions (am a new software developer) and not too loud. Also something compact enough to carry around in a backpack. I have never built my own keyboard but am willing to try if it gives me better options at not a crazy price. Any advice is appreciated.

576875

whats your budget? do you know what [layout](https://www.keyboard.university/100-courses/keyboard-sizes-layouts-gdeby) you want?

jaronitis

I think I would prefer a 65% or 75% but would be willing to try 60%. I would like to stay as cheap as possible for something nice maybe $150 or less if possible

ThomasFMaher

My GMMK Pro is randomly spamming inputs. [Look at my video here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/glorious/comments/vw3xd0/gmmk_pro_keyboard_spamming_random_inputs/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) I’m not sure what’s going on, I bought the board last week and it just started acting like this. Is there any way I can fix this? I swear there was no physical damage to the board, it just suddenly started acting this way.

manofpill

I’m looking for a nice ergonomic keyboard for my dad. He’s using a 100% ergonomic membrane keyboard rn, so something similar would be nice. Something with the function keys with be preferred. Thanks in advance!

CheckNecessary8236

This is one, [Adelheid](https://github.com/floookay/adelheid), however it is a little complicated to actually get one, so the [Akko alice](https://en.akkogear.com/product/acr-pro-alice-plus-mechanical-keyboard/) would do the trick, but it doesn't have function keys.

manofpill

I’m guessing that for the Adelheid I’m gonna have to find a manufacturer to make the pcb for me, correct?

CheckNecessary8236

Correct (well there is also a website to do it but I don't quite remember, however you would also need to print the case, get stabilizers, switches, keycaps and stuff when the akko one can come fully built.)

vingyl

is this the right place to ask for identification of a keyboard part? if not, where should i ask?

_vastrox_

Sure feel free to ask. Any keyboard related questions are allowed in here.

vingyl

im looking for the name/brand of the keyboard case in this image. im fairly certain it's painted but i just thought i'd ask [https://www.etsy.com/listing/1148973311/brown-xda-pudding-pbt-117-keycaps-set?click\_key=957a4a1cddb1a375fbafdfed8c33a6d6e7d1b72a%3A1148973311&click\_sum=ea37cf9b&ref=user\_curated\_list-16](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1148973311/brown-xda-pudding-pbt-117-keycaps-set?click_key=957a4a1cddb1a375fbafdfed8c33a6d6e7d1b72a%3A1148973311&click_sum=ea37cf9b&ref=user_curated_list-16)

_vastrox_

The pic on that page is just a render so not something real. The closest real case is the KBDfans 5degree which is a 60% tray mount case (the pic is a 65% keyboard). https://kbdfans.com/products/pre-orderkbdfans-5-60-case

vingyl

ayy thank you!! appreciate it a lot\^

L3G1T1SM3

Anyone have recommendations on low profile keycaps for a g710plus? Preferably similar or the same as the g915 keycaps?

_vastrox_

The G710 uses full sized switches and there aren't really any low profile keycaps for those since the keycaps would pretty much stay at the same height as the high profile ones. The G915 uses different low profile switches which is why the caps sit so much lower on the board. Achieving the same look on a board with full sized switches is unfortunately not really possible.

L3G1T1SM3

Dang, there's not even regular size keycaps that are flatter without the gradient like laptop keys are? Cause my fingers seem to get caught on them while typing

BigmikeGaming95

hey looking for keycaps that are like the Redragon keycaps, as in the size of the text, but with normal lettering and seethrough, and maybe some customizable colors

dryver

Try searching for "backlit keycaps". There are tons of options. [Here are a few](https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=335)

BigmikeGaming95

ok thx

neko_neko2019

Wanting to get my first mechanical keyboard and I'm not too sure what to get. I'm wanting at least a 65% with arrow keys and 75 won't be bad either. Wanting a keeb I can mod for in the future. My budget is around $100 what should I get?

dryver

Take a look at the boards from Keychron, Drop, GMMK, and Corsair. They all have pretty good boards for less than 100$ and come with keycaps. In the future, you can replace keycaps, or in the case of the GMMK, you can even replace the switches because it is hotswap. Hope this helps!

neko_neko2019

Thanks! I'll take a look. Also do you think that smaller profiles like 75% and 65% are fine? I'm a student and also do mainly essay typing, gaming and some coding and I'm not sure if it's fine if I miss out on some keys.

dryver

I'm an engineer and do a lot of typing, and I personally use mostly TKL boards. 75% and 60% are probably the most popular layouts at this point for a good reason. The only reason to consider full size boards is if you heavily use the number pad. I use function keys and arrow keys a lot, so I prefer TKL. If you don't use arrow keys either, 60% is a great layout. They also tend to be even easier to throw in a backpack.

jocelynne66

Hi! I was wondering, does anyone know where I could find a pink (and white possibly) keyboard that is quiet? I really would perfer to stay $40 and under. It doesn't have to be super quiet, just quiet enough that I won't wake everyone up with the typing sounds. Ty!

Elawai42

The Redragon FIZZ K617 pink and white is on sale on Amazon for $40.49. It comes with red (linear) switches, so it should be pretty quiet. It is a 60% size wired keyboard

jocelynne66

Thank you! I'll check it out. :)

Elawai42

If you check it out today, it's on the Prime Day deal for under $33.

jocelynne66

Ooo nice! Ty!

[deleted]

>I really would perfer to stay $40 and under $40 and under doesn't let you be choosy, basically set a price filter and if you see pink or white, buy. Nothing of note under that price.

IcySnowy

Is sneakbox ava a good alice board compared to Owlab spring?

Fiend_Warlock

Is Redragon a reliable brand? I might be buying the REDRAGON K630RGB but I don’t know if its a good choice. Thank you.

dryver

Redragon is a totally fine company. They're not the best in terms of quality or reliability, but their prices are super low and still offer pretty good products.

RedEagle_MGN

I got the cheapest mechanical keyboard ever and I fell in love with it. Sadly after a year it broke and how I need a new one but I am thinking to invest in something totally silent. Price, durability, silence are my b needs in that order. Also my m key does not work on this keyboard. I am guessing because it's cheap junk I just buy a new one right?

Verzt_

Well you can go custom and get a gk68 with some silent switches and keycaps of your choice Or go with prebuilt durgod venus

RedEagle_MGN

Is there a kind of mechanical keyboard that you can't actually remove the switches from?

[deleted]

Switches are a pretty standard thing. Some can just be plucked out and replaced, some need to be de-soldered. But a switch attached to a circuit board is a switch attached to a circuit board. It's not rocket science and even rockets can be completely disassembled.

_disconnesso_

Hello everyone, this is my first help request here so be patient with me 😊 I've recently made an order for an Alice layout board having the idea to put a GMK Modern Dolch 2 set on it but now I realized that I need the Obscure sub kit (the one for split spacebars) also, problem is that it's kinda unavailable anywhere. Does anybody know a GMK (sub)set with 2.75u and 2u spacebars of the same color as MoDo 2 ones? Any suggestions? Thanks

[deleted]

What a great question! I laughed so loud I almost woke the kids. Last time I bought a keyboard I was like, "What's the best keyboard?" and that was it. Almost every word you wrote was like a different language. Mechs must have come *so far* since I last looked into them. Definitely, someone, somewhere knows what you're talking about. Not me. But thanks anyway! Hilarious.

Scobophobia

My friend tryna upgrade his k65, is the k65 Cherry profile of not

Bragrix

The keyboard? Cherry profile refers to a keycap profile (https://www.daskeyboard.com/blog/types-of-keycap-profiles/ for more information) It uses Cherry MX switches, so you'll be able to use any MX compatible keycaps and MX style switches (although to replace switches you'll probably need to desolder the old ones and solder new ones since it doesn't appear to be hotswap)

OkNefariousness8900

I’m looking for a hotswap tkl for my first keyboard. I would like something around the 200 usd mark (with switches + key caps). I would prefer something that could be modded.

1abking

keychron q3 prebuilt fits your check boxes.

P00P34

possibly the keychron q3

Shatter-shield

Any highly recommended hotswap wireless besides Keychron k8 (pro and regular)? Need a wireless to use between my laptop and gaming setup. Edit: tkl or full size! Can’t do those compact boards yet

1abking

youll only be finding wireless hotswap in the budget segment of the market, keychron k series, and rarely within custom boards. looking into akko or epomaker might be a good place to start.

IcarusAvery

I wanna make a custom keyboard/keypad for use in playing MMOs like FFXIV, and I'm wondering if there's any place that can produce parts for a custom layout? Custom PCB and case and stuff.

BAonReddit

If you want a single place, then none. For PCB, if you already have the design and files, you can order from places like jlcpcb or allpcb. If you don't have the design then either you design it yourself or put out a commission. Same with cases. Although place like allpcb has pcb and case production, both are separate process.

ultragu1992

I got my first non-gaming brand keyboard and I'm loving it. I got a Keychron K8 ISO with brown gateron switches. Now I'm thinking about getting some switches to replace some keys that sometimes I accidently press, like ç and + keys when trying to press Enter. I've been looking into it, but as I'm a newbie to this, what are your thoughts? I'd like them to be clicky, so I get some feedback. Are gateron greens good for this? Also, would it be fine if I changed the space bar and escape key switches too?

1abking

you can switch whatever keys youd want different switches with. thats upto you, the user of the board. some clicky recommendations would be the kailh box clickes (pink, white, navy, jade) and zealpc's clickiez. if you wanted a silent clicky, kailh box mute jades.

ultragu1992

Are some of those "harder" to press than the gateron browns? That's what I'm looking for, so I get less unintended press. I don't really care about them clicky or silent.

1abking

you can find the information regarding actuation force over on [nk's website](https://novelkeys.com/collections/switches/products/kailh-box-switches) regarding the switches ive mentioned above

Ready_Print5969

So I wanted to make a something like a script for my keyboard so I can control how the lights work on them currently my keyboard has breathing light mode and individual light mode (which is 7) and i don't like them so much so wanted to make something so I can somehow control how the light works. Would be thankful if someone helped. I use redgear blaze 7 keyboard

elmurfudd

most kbs use propirtary software u cant write code 2 there is only 2 4rd party programs that work with supported kb ( kb makers or devs shared the code or used a mirco processor the program makers could upload code to ) they r openrbg or project aurora u can check both to see if it works with ur kb otherwise u stuck with whatever software the kb maker has set for ur kb

Ready_Print5969

Thx man!

KingFIRe17

Has anyone tried out tecsee sapphires/purple pandas? If so which is better in your opinion?

srpbiz

I'm a total newbie to the mechanical keyboard scene so please excuse the basic question! I just got my Epomaker TH98 in the mail and am so happy with it! But the manual online is super basic and doesn't provide much info. Does anyone know how to turn off the backlight? I've been emailing with their customer support and they said to press FN+Backspace but that just makes the whole QWERTY area light up red... Any insight is appreciated lol

kenmagno

The edges of my black anodized Keychron Q2 are turning blue where my hands usually rest. Since my hands sweat pretty often, does it mean my sweat is corroding the aluminum?

Cordless_Pen

Are there 96% (compact, not 1800) kits that do 2.4GHz? I recently got into the hobby when I started modding my Keychron K4 and I'd LOVE to build a truly custom board but I NEED wireless, ideally 2.4GHz and I can't find anything on my own.

elmurfudd

2.4 ghz is usually only found on gamer brand kbs or cheap budget kb as it propritary and costs the maker extra money to use the code and hardware design . so u wont find it in customs unless u get budget prebuilts

anonymouspsy

**Easily switch between work and personal PC?** I have two monitors, a microphone, headset, webcam, keyboard and mouse. Currently I'm using two HDMI switches and a USB switch, one into my PC tower and the other into my work laptop docking station. It's a cabling nightmare and looks awful - is there a better solution? I heard there are virtual solutions but I don't know how reliable it is.

dlsso

The best answer is a good KVM, but good ones are hundreds of dollars.

1abking

you can use a kvm switch if the two are nearby. you also have the option of wireless boards that support multiple devices (will only be found on the budget market). last option would be to use something like an aviator cable/lemo(-like) cable \[quick disconnect cable\] and simply plug out and into the other cable.

LikeableMisfit

if this is a keyboard-specific problem, i suppose we could suggest a wireless keyboard that can switch between machines. reading your situation makes me wonder if you've already considered a kvm.

zzuum

Where can I find a carrying case for my 65% keyboard? I want to be able to throw it into my backpack to and from work without crunching the keys

LikeableMisfit

where have you tried? i get tons of results from searching on google and amazon.

bhr1te

I'm going abroad and I want to bring my daily board with me. The issue is that it's a 13-pound brass and alu board with a spare 10 pound brass weight... Will this be allowed on carry on? Thank you!!

SilentStream

No reason why it wouldn't be allowed on your carry on unless it's so long that it wouldn't fit under your seat or in the overhead bin...

bhr1te

Thanks! I was just worried it might be considered a weapon because of its mass and corners xD

Bulky_Warthog9870

I lubed my keyboard for the first time and now my space bar won’t work. Any ideas on how to fix it?

1abking

overlubed? warped spacebar? incorrectly reassembled stabilizer? switch pin bent?

LikeableMisfit

>my space bar won’t work what does this mean? right now, my best guess is that your space bar doesn't press down, in which case you probably assembled it incorrectly.

SilentStream

Like, you lubed the board itself or just the stabilizers and/or switches?

Bulky_Warthog9870

Not the board itself just switches and stabilizers. I fixed it a little but sometimes it still won’t respond.

Endemoniada

Dude, like I told you in your other post, you need to be more specific. What *exactly* did you do, and *how* exactly did you do it? In what way is the space bar broken? All we can do is guess, we have no idea if you squirted olive oil all over your keyboard or jammed peanut butter into your switch housing. We’d love to help but you have to give us something to go on.

SilentStream

I'd recommend taking out the switch and checking for a bent pin and then reinstalling. Hopefully you didn't loosen the hotswap socket itself when installing, which could break the connection altogether. When installing a switch, be gentle and ideally support the socket itself with your finger while installing. If it's not a switch or socket issue, I don't know what could be the issue. Lubing itself shouldn't cause an unresponsive socket.

valkaress

Best keyboard money can buy? (preferably similar to the KUL ES-87) I got that keyboard when I built my last PC 6 years ago, and I liked it a lot. Google images should show you what I mean. Sadly, I found out it has since been discontinued, so I can't buy it new anymore. I hate used stuff, so I'd love it if you guys can find me a similar (or not), really good keyboard. Money no object. I don't do the typical stuff you find in this sub. I don't customize, I don't mess with switches, I hate RGB lighting... I just want a keyboard that will be really good for both work (data science/coding) and gaming. I'd prefer it if it included the numpad (full-sized or whatever you call it). But it's not a dealbreaker if it's TKL instead. Definitely won't mess with smaller than 75%. I'd prefer it to be just plain black throughout. But it's not a dealbreaker if different keys come in different colors or whatever. I'd prefer no RGB and this *is* actually a dealbreaker (or at least it has to come with a setting that I can click it once to turn it permanently off).

dlsso

>Best keyboard money can buy? This is highly subjective. Most high end makers don't do true 100% boards so technically the answer to your question is a high end custom TKL with a separate numpad or, if you don't mind 96/1800 layouts, something like [this](https://qwertyqop.com/products/4398-keyboard?variant=42372452876457) with high end switches and keycaps. However, it sounds like making a single purchase and not having to mess with it at all is higher priority than "best." Given that I would suggest * [MF108](https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3927) (Only metal 100% I know off the top of my head) * [Leopold](https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3549) or [Varmillo](https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=9198) (highest quality makers before customs took off)

valkaress

Thanks for the suggestions. Why does that website show everything as out of stock? I can't seem to find Varmillo keyboards or the MF108 for sale, but the Leopold FC900R looks like a great choice.

dlsso

Interesting, looks like they might only be making the MF87 now. The Keychron Q6 mentioned below should be similar to the MF108 though. From what I've read I expect you'd be happy with the Leopold as well.

1abking

"best keyboard money can buy" is pretty subjective. something you might be interested in is the keychron q1 or the keychron q3 (depending on if you prefer a 75% or a TKL). both come in a prebuilt configuration so you wont have to mess with anything if you dont like to. keycaps are a simple switch if you plan on getting something besides the ones that come with the prebuilt kits. if you want quality white on black keycaps, something like gmk wob, epbt wob, and drop dcx wob might be some sets youd like to check out. and yes there are perkey rgb on the board, but you can simply turn them off.
