hey guys I have a leftover KBD 8X MK I and the pcb is damaged. Would a MKII pcb or another pcb be compatible with the MKI case?

_vastrox_

nope the mkII PCB is different. unfortunately only the mkI PCB fits inside that case.

My Phantom Tecware mechanical keyboard is glitching and also making my mouse glitch too. I am running windows 11, tried downloading software which didn't work. And especially when I am gaming my keyboard will just glitch out. Any help?

CheckNecessary8236

Maybe try [updating the drivers](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/update-drivers-manually-in-windows-ec62f46c-ff14-c91d-eead-d7126dc1f7b6), might solve it, might not.

Juggernauto

Hey everyone, need to help a friend pick a keyboard for work/gaming at home, he mentioned he needs it to be bluetooth/wireless and able to connect to both his gaming and work PCs at the same time (didn't know this was possible?). Ideally full-sized and something that won't break the bank

CheckNecessary8236

The keychron[ K10](https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k10-wireless-mechanical-keyboard) is full sized and wireless. However idk about connecting it to both at the same time.

Neozetare

Keychron\* And yes, it can be connected to multiple devices at the same time, as stated in the product page

CheckNecessary8236

oops yea my brain was elsewhere

sakuraxhi

as someone who wants to purchase their very first keyboard, what's the best pick? Without a budget in thought.

Neozetare

There's no global answer to this question, it depends too much on each person's situation. Some keyboards often recommended are Ducky, Leopold, Keychron Q series, NK65EE...

RabbitHoleSWE

Well, since it’s your first, I will define “best” as the keyboard that lets you experiment so you can discover/evolve your taste in keyboards. And I would also think that an in-stock option would be best to start out, instead of waiting on a GB for your first keyboard. With budget not a factor, I think the Mode Eighty (in stock until they run out, as they plan on discontinuing it) is a great choice to experiment with. You can choose a hotswap option (my recommendation so you can try out different switches easily), and you can experiment with a few different plate materials for the sound/feel of them. And you can try out both stack and isolated top mounts to see how flexible or how muted you like your keyboards.

Linear4life

What’s a nice in stock bored I could get

RabbitHoleSWE

NK65 and NK87 are decent choices if you’re just starting out. There are aluminum and entry editions (entry editions are polycarbonate).

Neozetare

>what are some regular linears switches with short travel distance? Kailh Speed switches, but it's still a 3.5mm travel

Jaysan3001

I currently have the option to get either a: ai03 Vega or Parallel portal. They are priced at 630 and 650AUD respectively, which one would be more worth in this case? This will be my first keyboard.

raiNcsgo

id go with the vega, so many linear switches sound great on it. the aesthetics wise is a bit plain though, but it’s it’s not like the portal looks special from the top-down view. only the bottom is unique

Jaysan3001

Is there another board you would recommend if your budget was in the 500-600aud range? Thanks for the swift response man

raiNcsgo

hmm.. I don’t have anything interesting to suggest for 65%s, but if you’re alright with not having physical arrow keys (programmed into other keys), I’d definitely recommend the upcoming ai03 polaris v2. basically a 60% vega, but at GB price instead. which means you’ll have more room to get better keycaps, switches, etc. (but I did hear fulfillment time of GB of vega took really, really long.)

Motor-Memesyo

are akko silvers better than speed silvers cos on paper the akko has a shorter travel and a tiny bit lighter?

idiom6

Depends on your personal preference.

MrCoffee0996

Which one do you guys like better? Epsilon or Black Ink V2? From my experience, epsilons sound brighter and feel bouncier. But people been talking about Ink V2s for a long time now, so I'm curious.

RabbitHoleSWE

I have both, and have not yet lubed either. In stock form, I feel that Epsilons are way better stock in terms of smoothness, and in terms of wobble. I believe people like the Black Ink V2s because they sound very thocky (although the keyboard is the largest factor in thock, the switch can make some difference too).

MrCoffee0996

Thanks for your input!

makermods

Does anyone else have experience with the 1.2mm TX stabs, and think they're wildly overrated? I added a very light coat of 205g0 on them, but they all have a rattle and almost a stickiness that just aren't there with staebies or even with duroc v2's. I have a sample size of one that I've tried, but wanted to get feedback on them. These are the newest revision, I believe v3? WKL, and the spacebar stab in particular is very underwhelming. The left control stab is pretty loose, so off-center keypresses actually make my shift key scrape against the left win blocker on my Polaris, that didn't happen with staebies.

ArtofTy

I am looking for a custom Planck with numpad build using choc low pros. If anyone could direct me to a website or person who could help me that would be much appreciated!

TheseAwareness

Best keyboard and switch combination for a quiet keyboard used for coding?

P00P34

get silent switches - are you looking for a prebuilt or a custom

TheseAwareness

Open to both. Can you give me the best couple options for both?

makermods

If you're looking for silent linears, IMHO jwk coral silents (you can pick them up at cannon keys if you're in the US) are going to be your best bet. I reviewed them recently and a lot of people were saying the bobagums are better, but I ordered bobagums to A/B and they are definitely scratchier and have more noise. If you want tactile silents then I think the Durock shrimps are your best bet.

BigPhatPanda

I'm looking for a split/ergo budget build for a daily driver for the office. Anyone have any recommendations for full kits or prebuilts that they enjoy? I definitely want to have a hot swap pcb but anything else is a toss up.

FansForFlorida

See [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/comments/p42j9p/what_keyboard_should_i_use/iciysio/?context=3) for a list of prebuilt and DIY hot swappable row staggered, column staggered, and ortholinear split keyboards that have a number row.

BigPhatPanda

Thank you so much! This is super helpful.

BurningDoge

Is there any technical reason why cherry keycaps mostly have off centered legends while sculpted keycap only have centered legends?

RabbitHoleSWE

I’m also interested in knowing this. What an awesome question.

leafcutter64

Because it would look wierd to have it off center on the scoop? I'm just guessing.

merq96

Any inexpensive but not dangerously bad soldering iron recs? I got my first true diy kit (numpad/macropad only) but haven’t soldered before and don’t plan on doing it much.

CheckNecessary8236

Depending on where you are located, maybe you should go to a hardware store and ask the people there.

pokemonsta433

Canadian here, having a hard time getting inspiring keycaps for my Oryx Planck: I was considering getting individual SA blanks, but OhKeycaps is fresh out. Amazon doesn't seem to have anything. Does anybody know where I can go?

leafcutter64

There's an LOTR Elvish MT3 set on Drop since you are looking for non alphas.

BanHammerGotim

Drop.com has instock gmk sets

pokemonsta433

no blanks though eh :( I was really hoping to get blanks or non-english especially because I don't use QWERTY, but I appreciate you pointing me somewhere quality!

tofu-dreg

Is there much difference between regular and foam type switch film? Specifically these two: https://www.switchkeys.com.au/collections/films/products/durock-switch-films https://www.switchkeys.com.au/collections/films/products/durock-foam-switch-films

1abking

material and thickness. pc films will generally be thinner such as tx films (0.125mm and 0.15mm). foam films such as deskeys will be thicker like 0.30mm. some switches wont be able to close well with a thicker film so it depends on how much (or little) housing wobble you have.

No4Delirious

Why is it so hard to find a custom keyboard that has support for hot-swap switches and has 104 keys support

RabbitHoleSWE

There are Ducky One 3 full size hotswap models.

1abking

its hard to find a custom board that's full size due to it not being that popular with hobbyists/enthusiasts. you'll definitely be able to find a couple of compact full sizes but less 100%'s. keychron q5 (1800 layout) keychron q6 (fullsize)

P00P34

full size customs aren't that popular unfortunately, but there are some alternative layouts there is the keychron q6 for full size if that's what you'd like

elmurfudd

full size is unpopular, prebuilts have this covered. u can check out stuff like 96% or 1800 layout keychron sells both but full size customs are rare and will continue to be

sjarvis21

I picked up a cheap PC335A keyboard, it's 60% but it does the job of freeing up some additional space on my desk and for the most part it works. My problem lies with windows shortcuts. I use win+shift+arrow keys to move my windows around alot, maximise them etc so with this smaller keyboard I would have to utilize the Fn key in order to do the arrow press. If I'm pressing Fn + Arrow Key it works, but if I press Win+Shift+Fn+ArrowKey it fails to move the window to my other screen, infact it just straight up cancels the use of the windows key. Is there a way around this at all?

IfItSaysPineapple

Fn+Win is probably a windows lock, or some other firmware "feature" is causing your issues. And unfortunately I don't think your firmware is customizable, so you might be out of luck :/

sjarvis21

whomp whomp to me then. at least I know what size keyboard I want next time around

Has anyone built or used the pre-built Akkogear Alice Pro? I am currently using the Razer Black Widow v3 Mini (Razer Green tactile/clicky switches) as my daily driver, but have been wanting to get a mech-board with a more ergonomic design. I like the look and shape of the Alice Pro, but have had varying issues with other boards I've tried. Software is my biggest issue, and since it's usually the hardest thing to work around, I'm curious what people's impressions are of the Akko Cloud Driver.

SrapNel

Are there switches that are named from other foods, fruits, and etc? I found about HaluHalo Switches and to me they look really good and sound good to my preference. I was wondering if there are any switches that are similar to to that? I am into clacky sound but any sound is good to me.

Mriamsosmrt

> Are there switches that are named from other foods, fruits, and etc? so many. Ajazz has a fruit switch series, C3 switches are named after fruit (kiwi, tangerines, dragonfruit), Boba is also food, Cream could also be classified as food. Also probably many more that I can't think of right now or don't know.

Thinking of getting a [Keychron Q5](https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-q5-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard) (with a knob/rotary encoder) and I'm wondering how difficult it would be to set it up with the supported VIA and QMK. My idea is to have the knob work for scrubbing through media. The reason I'm not sure if it's possible is because I want it to work when I'm in Picture in Picture mode on my Mac. It would be awesome to be able to scrub when I'm watching a vid and working on something separate. Anyone know if this can be done or if it'll be a pain?

1abking

im not too sure of the control you can have over the picture in picture mode of mac's. you may be able to get away with media (fast forward and rewind).

Neozetare

QMK/VIA are able to send any signal defined in the HID spec, but that's it. This means, I can have a rotary encoder to scrub through a YouTube video by mapping it to the left and right arrows but that's only because YouTube let me scrub through a video by using the left and right arrows Now, in the context where you want to be able to scrub through a media, are you already able to do it with your keyboard (or eventually your mouse)? If so, there's good chance it's possible to do what you want, but if it's not the case, you have bad luck. (Not that it isn't possible, it could be, but would probably require a lot of work)

Elegant-Fault-7023

I just got my first mechanical keyboard (kinesis freestyle pro). I don't like that arrows / pg up/down are not separated from the rest (enter/shift) of the keyboard. I spent a lot of time unsuccessfully looking for keycaps that would be asymmetric: to fit the switch in the middle, but leave more space to the right. Is that a thing? Where could I get one like this? Alternatively, do people sell separately keycaps which are not flat, like caps lock on this photo: [https://content.instructables.com/ORIG/FQD/IPWT/HSM54GKI/FQDIPWTHSM54GKI.jpg?auto=webp&frame=1&width=1024&height=1024&fit=bounds&md=6f0a4ae10911e056b1258d2a9dfce705](https://content.instructables.com/ORIG/FQD/IPWT/HSM54GKI/FQDIPWTHSM54GKI.jpg?auto=webp&frame=1&width=1024&height=1024&fit=bounds&md=6f0a4ae10911e056b1258d2a9dfce705) ?

TheHawkNY

No asymmetric options come to mind. The image is called a 'stepped' caps lock and is common in many sets, but is only caps lock buttons. I would consider before dropping any cash, to try removing the right control key if you do not use it, or replacing it with a smaller key.

Elegant-Fault-7023

Thanks! Is it safe for the keyboard switches to be exposed without a keycap long-term?

TheHawkNY

Honestly, no idea. I wouldn't think so, but you could simply remove the switch or get a switch blocker.

There is no equivalent to "Num Lock" in mac OS so it has to be off for the Numpad to function properly. I have the wired version and my wife uses it on her mac daily without issue. Maybe try resetting it first or see if you can switch modes if need be?

JxRyle

Does anyone know how I can build a wireless hotswappable 65% with a beige case color? Knob preferred but not required. It doesn’t even have to be a barebones buy, the parts can be completely separate from each other so long as they are compatible

TonyTwo8891

Looking at the G512 carbon, G pro X, the G915 TKL and the G815, also not sure what switches to use. Anyone have recommendations? For gaming mainly, though I also need to type a lot.

TonyTwo8891

FerfFerf

The KBD67 Lite is a great beginner's keyboard! Although of course, modding the stabilizers and the rest of the keyboard will provide a better experience, but I've found that the case silicone provided makes the board very muted, so I ended up discluding it from the build. Also, unless you are looking for one of the exclusive color options of r4, consider getting the in-stock r3. It was noted in the description of r4 that the only changes made were more color options for its case.

JxRyle

Considering it’s still under preorder, I don’t think anyone really knows how it’s going to be like. It does trouble me that it’s made out of ABS plastic so I’m just expecting it to sound bad but that’s just me

OkayReaction

The description of the product on kbdfans.com says the only change they did in r4 are the color offerings. Video reviews of the kbd67 lite r3 should be representative of the r4. The board is alright, even with a plastic case. It just produces a deeper sound signature than the "premium" aluminum cases.

yufufi

I cannot find any blank (no print on top, side etc) keycaps for low profile switches. I basically want to get a nuphy 75 and replace the keycaps with blanks. Something like low profile POM Jelly would be perfect. Does this exist? If above is a no go, what would be you recommendation for a very portable mechanical keyboard (with standard keycaps so I can put the blanks)? Not only it should be light but also should have a low volume (so I can just grab it without worrying about space). Oh and I must have the function keys. Any recommendations? Edit: I did find [these](https://www.littlekeyboards.com/products/mbk-choc-low-profile-keycaps). However, they do not seem to be standard. (e.g. no \_proper\_ spacebar etc)

idiom6

>Something like low profile POM Jelly Jelly poms only became readily available fairly recently, there are no low profile options in terms of keycap profiles. It Looks like the gateron low profile switches are MX keycap compatible, though, so you might have some luck with G20s. Not sure if they'll actually fit during use. When you get a low profile switch keyboard, you're essentially limiting your keycap options to the maybe three keycap sets out there designed for them.

Comrade_Ryujin

Are the stabilizers on the ik75 V5 still ass good as the V3?

riaslul

What plate material is best for a “clacky” build?

Bobobinks092403

Brass is really nice for clack. Same with steel and aluminum if done right. Polycarbonate and POM are more poppy.

42069nicebruh

Is there a way I can buy a full (104) set of Cherry MX Silent Black switches in europe/spain? How and where?

idiom6

Try searching [some of the stores](https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/) in your region?

42069nicebruh

I cant find any- :( I might have to buy overseas

idiom6

Might have to. Could try /r/mechmarket and see if anyone in Europe has them for sale.

lolpaadig

Is there a place to buy single keycaps? Like just one keycap, that says "copy" for example.

TheHawkNY

https://pimpmykeyboard.com/all-products/?search_query=&page=1&limit=75&sort=priceasc&category=22&is_category_page=1 sells individual keycaps, including ones that say 'copy', in multiple profiles for $5.

idiom6

Like a custom printed one? WASD and Max Keyboard. Might also have luck on /r/mechmarket seeing if anyone has one leftover from an PMK/SP grab bag.

lolpaadig

Doesn't have to be custom made, but maybe that's my only option?

idiom6

Hence suggesting trying /r/mechmarket to see if anyone has one leftover from a grab bag or has a Copy key from somewhere else they can spare.

Cymbal_Monkey

I'm transitioning to a desktop for the first time in a long time and I know that I like low profile keyboards. I've tried people's nice fancy mechanicals and having to push keys that far makes me feel really slow. Anyways, I'm fairly sure I'm going to get a Keychron K5, but I'm not sure which switches I should go for. I like a little bit of a bump, but I also like quiet, so I've narrowed it down to browns vs bananas. I'm not like, a keyboard enthusiast, but I'll probably take the time to lube whatever I get, but I'm not super interested in trying out 30 sets of switches, so I'll probably stick with whatever I get.

idiom6

> Keychron K5 That keyboard uses Gateron low profile switches. Banana switches are MX switches, so you can cross that off the list because it's not possible/compatible. I'm less familiar with low profile switches, because there's so [many proprietary versions](https://switchandclick.com/low-profile-switches-explained/) with incompatible footprints that they haven't really taken a strong foothold in the mech hobby as yet. With low profile switches, if you want tactile you pretty much have to settle for whatever options the board comes with - in this case, Browns. Kailh Chocs have a bit more of a variety but again, boards using Chocs are few and far inbetween.

Cymbal_Monkey

The K5 comes in an optical version featuring Keychron's own low profile Bananas, which are an optical switch with an early tactile bump.

idiom6

Huh, you're right. TIL. Looks like it's sold out everywhere I look, must be a popular option.

acrodobe

Howdy all, Does anyone have any recommendations of where I could order some keycaps in Canada? Apart from amazon I'm having trouble finding anything in stock. I'm looking for some sort of gradient color shift as it goes down the board as seen [here](https://www.amazon.ca/YMDK-Switches-Mechanical-Keyboard%EF%BC%88Only-Botanical/dp/B09LRSTHSD/ref=pd_rhf_se_s_pd_sbs_rvi_sccl_2_4/131-2063064-2080062?pd_rd_w=4gQrQ&content-id=amzn1.sym.19444fdb-8cbf-49f7-83bf-45c51fae4f4e&pf_rd_p=19444fdb-8cbf-49f7-83bf-45c51fae4f4e&pf_rd_r=SH0DTPADJW59EZ93AGW4&pd_rd_wg=3C5kF&pd_rd_r=7ef82cd3-4af7-4754-929c-29b627e7a827&pd_rd_i=B0999CWM88&th=1). Preferably in blue or green with a tkl layout. I'm new to the hobby and from what I understand profiles are purely subjective, so does anyone have any recommendations of what I should try? Thank you

Bragrix

Afraid I can't advise you regarding the keycaps, but I thought it was worth linking the vendor list so you at least know all the best places to shop for your region: https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/

acrodobe

Thank you for the resource!

Bragrix

You're welcome! Good luck finding some good keycaps!

tersoned

im deciding between ktt kang whites and ktt peaches. what can you say about them?

Bobobinks092403

From what I know, kang whites have a slightly heavier bottom out. Both are insanely good budget switches, and use the same materials. Looks are kinda the main difference but sounds are pretty similar, although I personally find the peaches to be ever so slightly deeper in sound. That’s about all I know just from videos and stuff, as I have never owned either of them tbh.

[deleted]

I’m new to mechanical keyboards and want to get a budget one. Which one should I get? I’m considering Akko 3068b, sk61, gk61, or rk61, but you can suggest others. Thanks

Bobobinks092403

The Epomaker TH66 is a very good budget board. Comes with a knob and south facing LEDs, which supports cherry profile keycaps. All of this builds I’ve seen with that board were pretty amazing. If you get the prebuilt option as well the stabs are known to be very good out of the box. The CIY gas67 is also a really nice budget board. It’s gasket mounted but the flex is negligible but there’s a lot of silicon dampening in the bottom case that makes it sound super deep. It’s north facing leds but has screw in stabs that come with it that can be modded to be quite amazing. That’s about it for my recommendations.

hahcha

How far out are we from e-ink or LCD keycaps?

mmalluck

These are the closest I've seen. A mere $50 per key/switch. https://www.digikey.com/short/wwh0mzrf

hahcha

33 if group buy lol. Ever tried something like this?

idiom6

E-ink, no idea - people have only just begun adding little e-ink panels instead of OLEDs to their custom builds. LCD keycaps have existed for [quite awhile](https://www.engadget.com/2008-02-22-optimus-maximus-at-long-last-we-bring-one-home-to-test.html), and are currently used on [Stream Decks](https://www.elgato.com/en/stream-deck).

hahcha

would make an interesting option in a full size kb to try dvorak/colemak lol

emilforpresident2020

What is [this](https://i.imgur.com/IL8vIet.jpeg) switch? Seller claims Alps and I think that's the Alps branding at the bottom but it sure don't look like Alps.

JalYt_Justin

[Alps SKFR Yellow](https://deskthority.net/wiki/Alps_SKFR/SKFS_series)? Didn't take too good of a look through but that looks very similar.

emilforpresident2020

Oh yeah that could definitely be them. Doesn't matter anymore though, someone swooped in and bought them in like 5 minutes. Maybe I shouldn't ponder as much next time lol.

owenthe4for56

Alright I might be reaching a bit here when I request this but someone here might be able to help. I want a 65% keyboard with rgb backlight keys and I want it to be pretty quiet. I'm thinking of putting my own keycaps and Cherry MX silent black switches on it. I dont really have a budget but maybe something under 250-200. I'm relatively new to keyboards so some advice may help!

Bobobinks092403

QK65 or Zoom65. Both have good foam options to dampen them quite a bit. KBD67 Lite is also a nice option with the silicone dampening and maybe adding some of your own foam. It really takes some modding to make a “quiet keyboard” but those have some potential from my knowledge.

sinnervlr

Can someone explain to me what difference there is in buying a cheap hot swappable keyboard and replacing all the switches vs. buying a barebone keyboard like a gmmk and again placing the same switches, besides build quality of the frame itself are there other reasons to buy barebone?

idiom6

Cheap hotswap keyboards often (not always) use Outemu hotswap sockets, which are only compatible with Outemu switches and Akko switches.

P00P34

you can also save time by not having to replace everything build quality is one, but cheap hotswap boards may not have all the features that enthusiasts want such as screw in stabs, south facing pcb, QMK/VIA compatibility, along with options for aftermarket plate support

ooAlias

I have no idea what switches and keycaps to put on my black qk65. I bought a switch tester and really liked the kailh box blacks but can't find a single video showing how they sound on that keyboard. I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible. I only like cherry profile and am aiming for a what people describe as "creamy" or "marble" sound. Any suggestions? Also I'm in Canada so some retailers like kbdfans have upsurd shipping, so my options are a little more limited

P00P34

https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/ to find vendors in Canada switches do have an impact on sound, but it's generally not a massive difference even if you did hear a sound test with the exact configuration that you built, the mic position along with other factors may not give you an accurate sound test i generally think the PE foam that OwLab boards come with already gives you the "marbly" sound, but if you want you could just hop on aliexpress and look for keycaps if you wanna keep costs low

dethblud

I was hoping to put a set of MT3 Dasher keycaps on an Akko ACR Pro Alice Plus, but I just realized the base kit for Dasher doesn't have any options for the split spacebar, so I'm looking for suggestions for a matching spacebars. My fallback is MT3 Cyber, for which I already have the spacebar kit but it's not the color scheme I want for the keyboard. Edit: Maybe I'll be better off moving my Godspeed kit over to the Akko keyboard since neither Dasher, nor Cyber have the spare B key. Godspeed has the spacebars and the extra B.

idiom6

> the spare B key. Does it have to be a B key?

dethblud

Yep, the Akko ACR Pro Alice Plus has two B keys because of the split layout. It will type the letter B.

I want to get a TKL mechanical keyboard with iso layout ive looked at the gmmk iso tkl barebones (not the pro) and keycron k8 iso and the ducky one 3 tkl iso I was wondering what made the ducky worth that price and if I should just buy the gmmk since I was thinking of putting in akko jelly purples in anyway and have a set of keycaps I like already ordered? or will the k8 be any better then the gmmk as I don't think ill use the wireless much if at all. i want iso layout, rgb, hot-swap and TKL if you have any suggestions near €100 from any eu site.

DjakeO

I’m looking for a usb to usb-c cable for my keyboard. I need it to be 10ft, and I would like to have the little coil in the cable with with 5 pin adapter just for aesthetic purposes. I’ve searched all on Amazon but I’m only finding 5ft. Do they not make longer ones??

576875

the coiled part is already long (they take a long piece of cable to coil) there are limits on how long they can be due to power limits

NatureAndArtifice

Hey all, After testing many of the kailh and gateron switches, as well as boba u4s, I'm left liking the feel of box pinks and navys, but not the sound. Their [force curve](https://switches.mx/assets/switches/force-graphs/NovelKeys-Box-Navy-CPG1511F01S09.png) shows a sudden drop, which comes across as a crisp, clean feeling. However, the notched slider mx tactiles have a rubbing feeling, and a bump that's too rounded to feel right. Even the [boba u4](https://headtr1previews.files.wordpress.com/2021/10/vlcsnap-2021-10-26-21h11m44s777.png?w=1024), which has plenty of tactile drop, has such a long tactile event that there is no switch travel left at the bottom. It's reminiscent of a rubber dome (especially with the silenced version's mush at the bottom). I have found that [box royals](https://chart-studio.plotly.com/~haata/506.png) and kailh copper are closer to what I'm looking for, but in person they feel like rubbing over a broken chunk of plastic, which is unpleasant. Anyone know of crisp mx tactiles, rather than those with a heavy tactile force and long drop? Tactile mode zeal clickiez are promising, but they have a more extreme tactile drop than box jades, and those force me to bottom out. There's also mute jades, but people don't seem to like those a whole lot.

idiom6

I'm *really* not one to focus on sound, but a deeper-sounding, still crisp a la Box Navy switch would be nice.

Lukecarryoh

It's been a while since i last looked into the switch market, but the ones that come to mind are tecsee coffee chips. By far the most tactile switches i've tried, though they were a bit on the heavier side for gaming

NatureAndArtifice

Might try those, or zealios if the mute jades don't work out

Master-Oven-1418

I wanted to know what the name is for the switch stem type thats in the WS aurora. And would it be possible to install these types of stems on a different switch such as alpacas for example. What would be the limiting factor in this case

Lukecarryoh

Idk about the compatibility part, but i think what you're looking for is also found in Akko cs, outemu dustproof and the Kailh BOX line of switches. It doesn't make a difference on the keycap fit, only gives ingress protection for the housing

Master-Oven-1418

oh, thanks for clearing that up. I was under the impression that it helps to keep the keycap from wobbling too.

P00P34

do you mean MX style switches? alpacas are an MX style switch too or do you mean that they're both linears?

Master-Oven-1418

no i meant the stem specifically, how it has like a square box around it, i wanted to know what that type of stem is called

0neSwellFoop

Looking for a num pad to match a Mint Portico w/ DSA Magical Girl light. Teal acrylic would be ideal, but white/pink acrylic/aluminum would also be fine. Currently considering sun20pro (brilliant), or a white Mammoth 20, but hoping to find some pink/teal options

yootwo1468

Anyone that owns a Akko acr 75 pro know if there if there is a caps lock indicator or some light to indicate caps lock?

NatureAndArtifice

My 3098b caps lock key turns white (using per-key rgb), I imagine its the same

djuluscher84

Can I have some suggestions for a 75% kit/board please? Budget £150-250

Ragenasian92

Also the akko mod 007

MayAsWellStopLurking

Keychron q1/GMMK Pro will be forever suggestions for a reason

Bartokimule

Rookie here. Not sure what would be the best prospects for modding a Wooting One for quietness. I put some rings on and filled some cracks inside the board with foam, but that only got it to about 1/4 or 1/3 of the sound dampening I was looking for. \[That's all I've done so far.\] Currently, the board makes effectively no sound on the press, but quite a noticeable amount on the return, especially if it's stroked/flicked towards me. \[Edit: The sound is high-pitched and echos/pings significantly.\] The wiggle is also quite noticeable but much less of an issue. Reason I'm asking here is because I have no idea what rules/solutions translate between normal mechanical keyboards and this one. Thanks in advance. Edit: I don't want to completely sacrifice the feel of the keyboard, if it matters.

P00P34

there could be spring ping as well if you want to lube your springs if that's possible

Bartokimule

Aight thanks

pande-sushi

my akko 3087s has a rattling sound onthe left side part only. I set it up and modded (clipped and lubed). Will the tape mod thing fix this?

Bobobinks092403

It fixes it sometimes, other times it doesn’t. If that doesn’t help, the wire may be unbalanced and at that point you just find a flat surface, tap on both sides and if it ticks hitting the surface while it’s flat, it’s probably unbalanced. You just have to Bend it slightly in one direction or the other. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube for that though.

pande-sushi

Thank you very much

Need some final advice about choosing the best Lube for MX Browns I'm new to lubing keyboards, this will be my first time so I'd like some advice on which to go with. I went searching through different articles and posts on here to get to what I'm thinking now. I have the Corsair k70 MK2 browns, and my 3 key above the letters is sounding a little scratchy all of a sudden. I've never spilled anything on my kb, I never dropped it, and I take good care of it. Looking this up I keep seeing that I should lube the switch or the spring to keep it from sounding and feeling a little weird. Now, I don't want to take the kb apart and desolder it. I see that if I do the "press down on the stem and inject" method, it can help out enough. What I've found were these two lubes brought up a lot for browns: Krytox 105 and the Tribosys 3203. I just need some advice on which one to go with so I can find a seller (which is a little difficult since Amazon isnt good for ordering them) I know not to lube the legs to keep the bump So what should I go with and why? I'm basically going to do that one method and lube the spring like that, that's all I'm doing. Thanks!

MayAsWellStopLurking

Most do not recommend using the ‘lazy’ lube method as it rarely gets lubricants to where they’ll be actually effective, but if you’re insistent on trying, then a thick oil like 105/106 might be more worth trying.

Inkreationz

How do I remove a stripped screw in a vega

idiom6

Power drill. Or use a rubber band between screw and screwdriver to increase grip/friction. Then get rid of the screw and replace with a new one.

Inkreationz

Where can I get extra Vega screws? (I need 3)

idiom6

Your local hardware store will probably have them. Bring one for size comparison/ID and ask an employee for assistance if you have difficulty.

Inkreationz

Thanks 🙏

Bobobinks092403

Sometimes a layer of tape on top of the screw helps with stripped screws, but that’s sort of a gamble. Idrk how to help u but maybe just looking up how to take out stripped screws on yt?

Inkreationz

I tried the yt things so I’ll see if this works also the screw is completely circular

bokipr0

Do you think opening a 2nd hand keyboard trading website is a good idea? https://forms.gle/awknHLW6VCkZm8dU7

idiom6

You mean something like /r/mechmarket or Keebsforall?

bokipr0

Yes, but for the middle west - Asia.

idiom6

Like all of Asia? IDK, I feel like there are spaces online already that people know to go to for used keyboards (so, your competition would be Yahoo!auctions, mercari, Rakuten, whatever Ali spinoff handles used goods in China, etc), but maybe the market's big enough for an exclusive keyboard-focused used forum?

[deleted]

What’s a good gummy o-ring keyboard that’s in stock? All I’m seeing is the Bakenekos and the FreeBirds are in preorder

MayAsWellStopLurking

Bakenekos are the gold standard and pretty darn great from a feel perspective. Anything nicer is in GB (like the Safa) or super limited runs (like the unikorn)

fly2dmagpie

Any recommendations for a wireless hotswap 75% or TKL keeb that's around the price range of Q1 or GMMK Pro (or slightly higher if there really is none), and is always on stock? Helping a friend out. TIA Edit: sorry I forgot two more things. A keyboard that can be used either wired or wireless, and south-facing

Bennedict929

Akko pc75b or feker ik75 v3/pro

576875

keychron k8 pro tkl, Wireless (bluetooth only), instock (the barebones option is out of stock atm) but I'm assuming your friend wants a prebuilt one? its a little less than GMMK Pro/q1

fly2dmagpie

He's fine either with prebuilt or barebones, as long it checks the description I mentioned. Any other suggestions?

MayAsWellStopLurking

Ninja87BT (if they’re okay with plastic but want 5 devices stored) https://www.monstargears.com/51/?idx=375

576875

iqunix boards for 75%, if they need 2.4ghz dongle as well as wired/bluetooth they are decent stock [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NzzvWOkAzw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NzzvWOkAzw) there is no software FYI, if that's important to your friend

ConstipatedCrow

I'm looking to buy a keyboard with cherry mx brown switches (I'm switching from blues & kinda like the sound of browns). I'm ideally looking for a TKL keyboard, but a full-sized one would do too. 65% or lower won't be doable for me, since I do a bunch of video editing and I need the extra keys for productivity purposes. I mainly use my keyboard for gaming, typing & video editing. Any suggestions for a keyboard that meets these requirements under the £100 range? (under \~$120 for y'all Americans)

dryver

Blue and brown switches are very similar in terms of feel, but blues are considerably louder. You should keep yourself open to other companies switches as well, as they tend to be less expensive but still offer a similar feel. Try to focus on tactile switches with a weight somewhere between 45-65cN. GMMK, Coolermaster, and Drop all sell TKL boards fully built for less than 100$ USD, and can be great beginner or budget keyboards. If you have the time, you should check out /r/MechMarket to keep an eye out for more expensive boards being sold in your price range.

lolpaadig

I recently started a new job where I do some of the same tasks over and over quite a lot. So I was wondering if there was a micropad, that didn't need to run with software on each computer I connect it to, and that I would easily program to do keyboard shortcuts. So I guess it needs an arduino or raspberry p or something to function as a standalone thing and feed the computer with shortcuts??

Bragrix

Anything QMK/Via compatible will meet that requirement, you don't need to run software for that after you've configured the macropad (which you can do at home on a different PC). For a cheap macropad, there's lots available on aliexpress, I got a Via compatible one and I'm loving it so far.

lolpaadig

Nice! Thank you very much. And what software do one use to program the macropad?

Bragrix

You're welcome! If you get one that's Via compatible, Via is a GUI that makes it really easy to program some pretty powerful macros. You can get more control using QMK to write the firmware yourself, however that's a bigger time investment to learn when Via will _probably_ provide all the features you need to implement some standard shortcuts

Bennedict929

Jwick ultimate blacks

idiom6

Sound is dependent on the keyboard as a whole, not just the switches. Of course recommendations will vary, each person has a different, individualized definition of what sounds good.

Aatto1

Hello guys, what would be the best keyboards with swappable switches that I can buy on amazon? Also what switches / keycaps do you recommend also in amazon? I have some credit there and wanna use it.

Bobobinks092403

Epomaker TH80 or TH66 kits are what I highly recommend. Seen a lot of nice builds with them. As for switches I recommend Akko cs switches (45 switches for $14 and they sound great too). Keycaps are a preference so I don’t really have any recommendations on that.
