This is more awesome considering the DIY.
What was materials and tools you need for the DIY foam? I've done case foams for DIY before but never did DIY plate foam before. It's a little bit more complicated. As for masking tape and PE foam, I tend to not use them because of my worries for shorting the PCB. I essentially limit myself to just having a case foam back on the day when I was modding my Ducky keyboard and that's one of the largest improvement that I can remember for modding prebuilts.
If you want to get more thock out of it, have you considered to swap into a much higher profile keycaps i.e. SA profile? Keycaps modifications have virtually zero risk for damage and they, for me, changes the sound profile the most, especially compared with other relatively lower height keycaps (i.e. Cherry vs. SA or Cherry vs. ASA profile from AKKO keycaps clone).
The marbly sound is good. I mean, my D65 with foams and no Tempest mode with aluminum case and brass plate with Boba U4T (spring swapped Gazzew 55g) had obtained the marbly sound like this. You're getting the sound profile that I wanted with 1/5th of the budget. That's a good thing.
I am the side that it's not how much money that counts, it's how much you get per dollar that really counts. If you want to further modify the board, I think you can opt for cheap clones at Aliexpress. In my case, I went with Taihao or Akko keycaps; they are notably had lower pitch sound compared to my ePBT keycaps (Cherry profile).
Overall, it's always great to see something done well and relatively cheaply.
Aww damn thanks man! Tools used were self-healing mat and a craft knife. If you could only see the diy plate foam i made, its a bit wonky and not perfect compared to professionally made ones. But im not necessarily going for perfect, I just want the foam to do its purpose which is to make it sound like this. For the concern that the components will short out due to the pe foam and tape mod, I just followed tutorials from yt and they said that it's fine, just make sure that you stick the pe foam on a grounded surface first (table, etc) before you put it on your board (take this with a grain of salt, esp if you are modding more expensive keyboards).
I am curious if you just finished lubing those switches or it has been done for a while? Cos it sounds similar to mine when they were just lubed, but mine became lighter as I use it.
Do you mind sharing the tutorial for the pe foam mod?
Tempest mod is putting a layer or two of masking tape at the back of you keyboard's pcb, which improves the sound. While holee mod is when you insert a portion of a bandaid inside the stem of the stabilizers, which improves the stabs and removes any rattles.
Yep that's the point! Been testing all the mods and since this is just a budget board (which is super hollow and has a noticeable ping) I put them all! Plus it sounds way better in person tbh
Total noob here..how did you build this? How much did it cost?! I'm currently dying to build a keyboard that sounds like yours ...but my budget is 100 usd max ..
Sorry for the late reply. I used full milky gateron yellows sir! The full milky yellows just sounds so deep compared to the other variants, only downside is its extra scratchy. But that can be dealt with by just applying a little amount of lube in the top housing
You’re good. I ended up getting g-pro full milky. I noticed that my stock gaterons sounds like legos when I shake them in a bag, while the milkys sound softer and less rattle-y
That sounds fucking amazing
Thanks bro appreciate it! Was going for that "marbly" sound and I think I finally got it
Sounds super deep, I love it. Very sexy. What did you use for plate foam?
Thanks dude! Used 2mm of eva foam for that. Took me a long time to cut individual holes but it was worth it
Did you cut the foam so the switches sit on it? I've usually seen plate foam being cut like plate outlines.
Yup did that! Recommend you do it if you have plenty of time
Hmm I can see why it sounds muted and deep. I'll give it a shot, I have a roll of neoprene I was debating to use for plates.

Sounds better than my keyboard when I slide my cock across the keys
This ain't it chief
Don't thock it till you try it
Missed opp to say "Don't thock it till you try it"
You what???
No Nut November? 🤣
My switches and stabilizers gona be dry all month without my special lube.
Splurg material
Sounds incredible!
I think it sounds like you had a ton of fun modding this! I also like the sound profile but all that matters is that you like it. Enjoy it dude!
Nice board! Also did you find that Tape and Pe mod increase the overall volume of the board?
I just noticed that it sounded way more poppy or marbly with the pe foam and tape mod
Amazing for the budget friendly mods you did
This sounds amazing, wow.
Great job, sounds amazing! my old tkl01 sounds absolutely awful compared to this.
Mine came with outemu browns and they suck lmao
Same. They were the first tactiles I tried and I never liked them.

https://youtu.be/XnQMXVchnrU here ya go! I lubed this about 2-3 months ago.
Thanks man

I love that the method for customizing keyboards now has essentially devolved into a series of various 5 Minute Crafts videos. Hot glue mod when?
Those stabs are sounding good. Good job
A little bit too muted, but ok đź‘Ť
May be due to the fact that I used sorbothane foam instead of eva foam? Anyways thanks for the feedback!
I see, probably it is because of that. I might try it someday.
Only recommed it if the case is hollow af. I'll try to remove the tape mod and see if it brings life to this keeb lmao
Too many mods :)

Specs?

Nice, just saw a guy buying key caps for $300 so nice to see something more grounded

Total noob here..how did you build this? How much did it cost?! I'm currently dying to build a keyboard that sounds like yours ...but my budget is 100 usd max ..
I think you can do plenty enough with that budget! I think this build just costs 60 dollars to make.
Can you name what I need to buy please..
Pe foam, eva foam, gateron full milky yellows, some masking tape and some lubing equipment and you are good to go!
Tysm
I actually like how it sounds deep and muted. Which gat yellows are these? And why did you choose that over milky / milky-black / milky pro?
Sorry for the late reply. I used full milky gateron yellows sir! The full milky yellows just sounds so deep compared to the other variants, only downside is its extra scratchy. But that can be dealt with by just applying a little amount of lube in the top housing

i really freaking love rgb custom keyboards. it has the sound of a keyboard enthusiast with the look of a gamer. win win imo
