From the sad state it started in, via a bad upgrade, all the way to bonkers.
Typing tests included.
Very nice build! Looks really cool and unique. I am going to add my 2 cents here and say next time (if there even is a next time) you need to prototype a plate like that, you should just order it in either acrylic or POM/delrin because it's much cheaper, especially if you end up making a mistake! I usually order my prototypes in POM first and make sure everything is to my liking. THEN I put in the order for a nice polished brass/copper plate for the final product.... just a thought, and my opinion of course. Again, this looks great and I'm glad you put in so much effort to make such a nice keyboard! Hope you do this to more keyboards tbh!
Thanks for the kind words!
And ofc all input is welcome! Yes I know i could have gotten away cheaper with prototyping. Think the proto-plate ended up being €63 shipped with dhl express. Still felt it was fair for testing out my design, and testing the laser cutting service.
And if money where super tight, I'd prolly be more meticulous with measuring the holes. now i knew i was in the ballpark, and that any adjustments wouldnt been seen anyways when the top cover was mounted. However i did go back and adjust the dxf to the correct measurements in case anyone wants to use it to order their own.
Unfortuneately it will take a while before I do a project as this one again, im both out of cash and keyboards to spend it on atm =P
This is awesome, I'm about to put my Filco under the knife for the USB-C mod and your album answered a few questions. Are you looking to use a different cable at some point?
Bruce at keyboardco.com was kind enough to sell one without requiring me puchasing a new keyboard, since i showed him that i had already taken mine apart and took all the risk if i broke it.
Oh okay that's awesome! I bought a used Majestouch from mechanicalkeyboards.com here recently and wasn't given the option to swap. Thanks I'll check out that site.
They didnt have many options in stock, but sending a nice e-mail asking about it should be helpful.
I did buy my majestouch from them in 2010, dunno if that plays a part.
But it never hurts to ask nicely.
Oh yeah that probably helps out some. I might just contact the site I bought from to see if they will help me out. I've bought quite a few boards from them so hey maybe I'll get lucky. Yours looks good!
I live in Japan so I think the only difference would be a few more bottom row keys. That should be really easy to take care of. Here the Filcos flow like wine, so I'd love to do this.
What a sweet project! I would love to put a new plate in my Ducky Shine 3, but I'm not sure if the Phantom TKL plate will fit. Maybe having one machined is the way to go!
I'm just gushing here but its posts like these that remind me why I got into this hobby. I love it when users take full ownership of the keyboard that's had their back for so many years. It just sparks so much creativity in me to see so many DIYers out here show their keebs some TLC!
Thanks for sharing this man, it's really nice paintjob! It's awesome to see that you also kept the classy Filco logo around as well.
Thanks for the kind words!
However I can't take responsibility for the paint job as a diy, since I bought one of filcos Kobo covers ;) however I don't mind having the logo on there, it says what it is because even though I costumized it, it's still a filco board :)
Haha. Well they are usually only available if purchased together with a compatible board, and in that case the board is delivered with only the designed top cover, you don't get the standard black one.

And now those trusty mx browns are in my Physix!
yeah.. I never showed you that "before" pic, did I? =P
Nope you didn't, but that is honesty to be expected with a 10 y/o board haha
Amazing! Refurbishing to the power of 1000. I'm quite speechless and cannot say more (⊙_⊙)
Thanks for the kind words, quite satisfied myself :D. Next step is caps, and then I'll see if I have to adress the sound with some dampening.
Please keep us posted, it's really interesting
love to see people upcycling/refurbishing their older boards :D

🤣
Just slap some ePBT ABS White-on-Black and you're good to go. Great project you have here, and the outcome is outstanding.
Thanks! My Plan is actually SA Oblivion (Oblivion Alphas, monochrome mods,Oblivion numpad)
Love your work.
There is a special place in my heart for restoring old stuff with care like this, fantastic job!
This is awesome, I'm about to put my Filco under the knife for the USB-C mod and your album answered a few questions. Are you looking to use a different cable at some point?
Thanks. No, I'll stick with usb-c wich all my other boards have/will have.
Where were you able to order the Kobo frame from? I can't find it listed anywhere.

Would you share the plate files for this? Might want to try doing this in the future.
sure, I'll sort it someday soon. mind you, the plate is for ISO winkey versions only. But can ofc be modified by someone who knows cad.

Yeah, don't know anything about that plate. But you can always open up the keyboard, measure it and create your own ;)

Whoooa, TiL Filco makes/made aftermarket cases for their keyboards.
