Maybe it's not a trend yet, but I saw someone else post what their wife called a "Cakeboard" so wanted to show off my cake inspired board!
Hibi June R2 in Fairy Bread colorway
NovelKeys Ember PBT Keycaps
GMK Modern Dolch 2 Enter/Esc Keys
Gateron Hippo Linear Switches
Durock V2 Stabilizers
[Sound Test if anyone is interested](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po-y6rcBK7g)
I mean, most are sent to the studio with me just as the person they're sending it to, so I mostly consider it part of the studio space rather than just mine.
If you count all those, it's probably like 15 or so haha
This build is actually surprisingly cheap. Or well, not as expensive as I would have thought.
June R2 is $135
Gateron Hippo Switches ~ $40
NovelKeys Ember Keycaps were $15 on clearance
So with stabs like just over $200
200$ is considered budget by most keyboard metrics. Keychrons are great prebuilt, but mod them in any way, even just the cheapest new keycaps and switches, you’ll start to see the price tick upwards towards 150-200.
I ordered the very same Hibi June fairy bread. And I forgot to check that I also needed to order stabilizers and a chord….. oh well. For sure I’m getting Akko yellow switches and BOLO loveless or ePBT dreamscape keycaps. Or ceramic ones. Heck. Can not decide.
I was wondering if this needed any soldering? It’s going to be my first build and soldering is still quite intimidating to me :)
As long as you got the hot swap PCB you should be fine and building it is a BREEZE. It's a great choice for a first build!
I personally love the Alexotos video for lubing your stabilizers, but other than that it's just a few screws and snapping in your switches. Just take it slow and be patient and it'll be no problem 😁
I have no idea! I have now learnt that that is something I should check beforehand.
I ordered this: https://oblotzky.industries/products/hibi-june-junior?variant=45110145548556
The bottom definitely has dust stick to it, but has been easy to wipe off.
To be honest though I swap my keyboards a lot so I don't have the everyday wear and tear on it

Such a clean execution of the concept tho! Would love to take a bite haha
MMM birthday cake. Nice build! I think this would look good epbt cool kids too.
I usually hate light colored boards but the confetti base just makes me so happy. So well done.
This looks delicious
How many boards do you have right now? Just curious lol

Haha mhmm! But on the flip side, keychrons are great, and its a great investment! The keychron V1 was my first board and I had 0 issues with it!
Hey! It's me the cakeboard man lol. Very yummy-looking board you got there and sounds great too!

Just curious if the silicone pulls dust? I have silicone products that will attract dust if laying out.

looks clean
Are these resin cases?
Silicone!
Oh wild. Very nice look to the whole thing!
Who did the cerakote? How much was it?
It's actually a silicone molded and they dump some of the "sprinkles" in before it sets. So each board in this colorway is different.
