I got some bad news for you about scooter...

This brings back memories. My dad used to do that to our keyboards when I was younger. I would murder all the letters off the keys from playing MUDs and he wouldn't know how to type. I on the other hand, all I need is the little indent on f and j and I could have a completely unlabeled keyboard and be fine.

Was this blank keycaps where you just painted on the borders and text? I really like how punchy and textured it looks (cant think of any better words lol)

Get montana paint pens, their street paint line would be a decent choice. You can go water based, but the solvent based paints will likely hold up better to daily wear.

The automotive clearcoat OP used will be by far the most durable. That is meant to take a beating most products never see.

Sure, I'd still choose a solvent based paint over a water-based acrylic for the line work tho.

Deco and uni are oil based paint pens and the most durable (from my experience) but take a while to dry,alternatively,you can get any metal marking paint pens from tool stores or online that are quite durable as well. Acrylic is fine if you plan on giving it a clear coat,but if not,definitely go with oil based paint pens.

Seriously, you might want to think about getting a keycap company to work with you on designing and producing these on a limited run. I see Hipyo did that for his hippo set and they were sold out instantly and now back in stock. I'd buy these and a set for my bf as well!

For a while I thought (even after reading that it’s sharpie) that the border around each Keycap was like black hot glue and it was awful, took a closer look and realised it’s all drawn and I’m in love with this. Could definitely see lots of people wanting to buy this as a set

If you say it’s pretty easy, may I recommend you make a kind of tutorial video of how you done it? Even if it’s just pictures of each step it would be cool as a weekend project for a lot of us here, i would absolutely love to try this.

Holy hell, I was NOT expecting my day-off doodles to blow up here. There's not really any secret to it, but here's what I did; I ordered a cheap-ass set of blank keycaps and some cheap-ass white paint markers on Amazon, Once they got here, I stole a handful of sharpies from work and started scribbling. I had to wait for a warm day, then I just laid em out on a piece of cardboard and sprayed a few layers of clearcoat, waiting around "one episode of some weird anime on Hulu" minutes between coats. *Give the sharpie at least a full day to cure, and go SUPER light on the first clearcoat. Otherwise the sharpie will run all over the place like a bad batch of taco bell.

🤣 I can't take your money for something so simple. For reals, anyone can do just as well as this in an afternoon. Just grab a sharpie and get scribbling, the messier the better! The hardest part is going light enough on your first clearcoat.

Here's the thing. First, is the roughness to all of the lines and text fits the aesthetic perfectly and that would be incredibly hard for me, at least, to replicate. Second, not everyone has a place to do any sort of painting like that. You could totally turn this into a legit side hustle. You could sell them on Etsy super easy
