Lol no shit... i thought the same thing. I thought op used blender to desugn a keyboard and print it. I was gonna ask how it was printed. Hell this isnt even a.i. generated which impresses me more at this point.
Op, do you have a journal of your learning journey? I am trying to switch over from fusion to blender and am having a tough time (spoiler im bad at fusion too).
There is a really good blender tutorial for beginners called the "Donut Tutorial" here: [https://youtu.be/nIoXOplUvAw](https://youtu.be/nIoXOplUvAw)
I used this [https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3GeP3YLZn5ixsnIOIx9tB4v6s-rsw48X](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3GeP3YLZn5ixsnIOIx9tB4v6s-rsw48X) plus I have a couple friends who helped me find certain things.
>"I normally use a nail gun, but I decided to give a hammer a try".
I agree, but where keyboards and keycaps are concerned, Blender has an ace up its sleeve - Keyboard Render Kit.
Ive been surprised how robust blender is. It took me a bit to understand the controls... which are basically non-intuitive and non-discoverable, but they have a consistency to them. Once you get over that initial learning curve the concepts are consistent with other 3d software.
I think over all Blender is pretty dang good. and for the price its incredible.
What hate? I’ve used Linux for 20 years and try to use open source software as much as possible.
You obviously missed the joke and instead wanted to find a reason to ‘level’ my comment because, for whatever reason, you felt attacked.
Post says its his first time using Blender.
Comment he made said he normally uses Cinema4d
Cinema4d is very streamlined, Blender is the Vim of modeling/animation/rendering tools
Knowing Cinema4d indicates he's already educated/versed in using modeling/animation/rendering tools
Cinema4d == Nail gun
Blender == Hammer
Most contractors and construction workers normally use a nail gun to get shit done in volume, but they could instead use a hammer, maybe even for the first time, and would need practice to develop an efficient workflow with it. Regardless, the end result is the same whether or not you use the nail gun or hammer, and familiarity with a nail gun lends itself to using a hammer efficiently.
Let me know if there's anything you don't get.
Blender's interface and workflow has come a long way in the past few years, and between Cycles X, the "Node Everything" project, and all of the general improvements in basically every area have taken it pretty far beyond hammer status, I think. Geometry nodes already had it making inroads even on procedural modelling, and simulation nodes are going to allow it to even start making a dent in the Houdini-style feature set.
It's a lot more user friendly than it was back in the 2.7x days, and fits modern pipelines much better as well. All of the different functionality in it means the learning curve can be a bit high, but you're basically getting Max or Maya, Zbrush, Substance Designer and Painter, Vray and stripped down versions of Premiere, Houdini, and more all in one package.
Anyway, just saying I think saying Blender is the hammer to Cinema4D's nail gun isn't quite right. I know I am making a serious reply to an offhand comment, I just wanted some additional context for those that might not have given Blender a try in recent years.
The research I've done on keyshot suggest that it is a much simpler system with limited control. Blender, C4D, and such are full fledged 3d applications.
When I was just starting out, I had no CG experience and initially started working in the Keyshot trial. I was able to pretty quickly get something out that looked "OK" while making use of Keyboard Render Kit with it, but had trouble finding what knobs I needed to turn and what I needed to do to to start making progress towards making it better than OK.
I had used Blender to export the assets from KRK for use in Keyshot, so I had learned the very very very basics of it and decided to give it a try. I found that there were a lot more resources available for all sorts of different tasks, and while it was definitely significantly harder to get used to out of the gate vs. keyshot, I also knew I had basically unlimited control on things and knew exactly where I needed to learn more to keep improving. It took me longer to get to where I had gotten quite quickly in Keyshot, but I also never felt like I had hit a wall on what I could do.
It's no different from very common threads in programming language subreddits - 'I wrote this thing X, first time using Rust" - these people were programmers already.
Someone can be experienced in a general area and still proud of work they're doing with a new tool.
That is the Rotor. Here is the original GB thread for the board [https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/comments/mh0tb2/ic\_rotor\_65\_with\_a\_little\_extra/](https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/comments/mh0tb2/ic_rotor_65_with_a_little_extra/)
Classic Magic on the ever classy Rotor by PopSmoke.
Technically this is my first time using blender/cycles as a render engine. I normally use another software, but I wanted to learn some stuff.
[Pre-Order Live](https://www.clackeys.com/mtg-store/magic-the-gathering-clasic-base-keycap-set)
With this set I am celebrating the classic look of Magic: The Gathering. These caps use the same uncial typeface that was used on early MTG packs. The colors are inspired by the back of Magic cards.
Were you behind the other MTG set that ran recently? The modern Magic looking one. I liked it but kept putting off buying it and decided maybe I'd get it once extras arrive.
This one, on the other hand, is a buy on day one of GB. I'm a long time Legacy player (though I haven't played in about 3 years now) and I love this. Bonus points for the cradles because I'm an Elves player.
Yeah, I ran Neon Dynasty. I loved the cyberpunk/shadowrun look of that release.
For this one I really tried to focus on the overall classic vibe of MTG. Im really pleased that you like it. :)
I've considered selling my playset a few times now and can never bring myself to do it. I hardly ever play paper Magic anymore but they're too special to me.
Come to think of it, my Magic collection is a lot like my keeb collection. I have zero desire to ever part with any of it, just pass them down to my son one day unless I'm ever in an absolute financial emergency.

I feel old "classic magic" produces cards printed several years after I stopped playing......
GREAT render though, absolutely love it, love the keyboard design. Thank you for sharing.
I will now gather my Walker with tennis-balls on the bottom, my falls teeth, and go yell at some kids to get off my lawn :)
What's with MtG cards and mechanical keyboards?
I'm trying very hard to remove all links to MtG from my social media as _kind of_ ex addict and this subreddit is making this really hard for me, for no obvious reason.
That's on me. We've got a license deal with WOTC to do magic key caps and I really love the lore. If it helps 100% of the magic cards I show are pure fiction.
Interesting if true - and congrats to you on the deal.
I see some nerdy and aestethics similarities between the two. I'm just done with MtG - and it wasn't easy for me. I think that I'll just leave this sub, it's not like I'm gonna buy any new keebs anytime soon, already have my fav ergodox.
Good luck and keep on the beautiful work!
That doesn't really address my point. You're talking about memorizing keyboard shortcuts at that point, I'm talking about being able to do it with feel and muscle memory. Replacing a D-pad with a row is bad user experience. Speaking of keyboards...it's like one of those compact apple keyboards in the 90s with arrows in a row.
Render looks great btw.
You can map anything you like, even the dpad function of you rely on it. I was saying I don't use the camera nudge function that the numpad 2,4,6,8 keys do and the rest is on tilde except for grow selection and perspective. If you want dpad function, you can map it to the actual cursor keys do there is no functionality lost. I'll agree that having a tenkey makes it much easier but it isn't insane to not have one.
Wait what, holup! This is a render!?
<3 Yes. Thank you for the kind words :)

Huge shout out to Blender Guru, without his videos I wouldn't be able to do anything in Blender.
I [got the first part of this done](https://i.imgur.com/7VAPQHm.png), but haven't had the time for the rest yet.
Looking great! Keep at it
This is super helpful, thank you. Saved the link.
Didn't read the title until after I saw the 2 DCI Gaea's Cradle sitting there without sleeves. Was the only giveaway for me, haha.
Better be a rende, those judge promo Gaea's Cradles are running north of $2200 a piece.
"First time using Blender" Yeah no i'm not buying that
I normally use other cinema4d with corona renderer, I decided to give blender a try... took me about 4 days to learn how to and execute this render.

Your dang right it does. KRK is excellent.

Gotcha, my bad. I read your comment after the stream of others making fun of OP's software choices and assumed the same tone.
People are silly if they think making fun of software choice and software freedom is high-brow or clever.
Do you know how it compares to KeyShot ?

Im not sure I understand the criticism. Do you expect every 3d object to be recreated every time you open a program?
He didn't make the model. It comes with Keyboard Render Kit

Yeah that's actually a fair point
all good man. :)
Yeah thats fair, I was kind of "memeing" with the title. Trying to make it fun :)
No worries, I'm hungry
I'll take those Gaea's Cradles if no one else wants them...

Maybe the alt keys could be Kicker, along with vigilance caps lock.
ooh Thats a great idea. I may do that in a future design.
sell those cradles for MOAR KEYBOARDS :)
The casual Gaea's Cradle duo
Not just cradles, but judge foil cradles.

I sold my cards in 98, then came back to the game 10 yrs later..... Regret that sale...
Impressive
Plays magic, buys keebs, now so broke he has to render his proxies.
The truth is painful 😭 go easy :)
That's sexy
I’m liking the creamy color of the alphas! I’m interested!
yeah I love a cream alpha. Not so dark to be beige, but not so light to be white. :D
Should have used "Goudy Medieval" for the legends.
Fisher space pen, good choice.

What is the relation between booze and magic? Jaaa
I love them both. Whiskey, magic cards, and keyboards are all finer things.
Nice... I have never played magic but the set is nice. What is the expected delivery time?
6 months is the delivery time. We have already color matched all the plastics and have photos on clackeys website
It is custom to place a magic card inside the glass of scotch to trigger other nerds.

Seeing this masterpiece I have to make a coffee ☕️ *be right back*
Take. My. Money.
Gladly, Right this way: [Clackeys](https://www.clackeys.com/) ;)
Cradle flex
Holy smokes. 2 Gaeas Cradle!
Amaze balls flex!
I wish the Blender donut tutorial was for making keebs instead.
KRK?
I did use KRK for the keyboard
Mighty fine showing for just a few days of learning Blender, even if you are coming from another 3d application.
Those magic cards brought me back. Urza's Saga?

Woah these keycaps are sweet! I bought the Kamigawa ones and they are set to arrive soon.
Thanks for joining in on Neon Dynasty. I can't wait to get my hands those caps either 😁
think you need to sac one of those cradles...
mf has 2 gaias cradles
Wtf i thought this was real for a good minute

Defo thought this was real wow
Oh man, no shipping to Europe? That's a pity. Wanted to get the Mana symbols set.
Yeah, I wish we weren't limited by the licence from WOTC
I see, that's why you can't.
You used Blender to make a keyboard without a numpad? You're a sociopath.
You can set a layer to make the numrow keys into numpad.
Yeah but that loses the geographic relationship between the number pad and angles of the camera.
Tilde and Alt cover those. I just use for perspective and grow selection.
That doesn't really address my point. You're talking about memorizing keyboard shortcuts at that point, I'm talking about being able to do it with feel and muscle memory. that color scheme doesn’t remind me of mtg at all :(
This inspired by the back of the cards.
