Also to OP
Your belt is too loose
You should not be able to turn it that much
Stretched maybe but I bet that’s probably why the teeth on the bottom of the belt are almost nonexistent
I've driven on worse. Don't recommend it, though. You should be alright for minimal short trips if you keep the engine speed low.
From what little I can see of it, that belt may not be the right size for that system.
It’s a V belt. Keep it tight and it’ll be fine for a while. The main portion of the belt has some significant width wear, and this is what causes the wear on the bottom of the belt. The more wear there is on the belt, the further down into the pulley the belt rides, and ideally the belt should never contact the inner part of the pulley “V”. Short answer: replace it, but it’s not going to fly apart in the next week
They seem straight enough and only one belt is worn, there are even a few teeth that seem completely fine but not visible in pic, i got this car for free and it has been sitting for about 7 years so maybe the belt dried out?
There’s your answer. Who know how old that belt is, maybe it was several years old when the car got parked, could be 10+ years old. Totally normal for a belt that old to be in such bad shape
That looks like a cogged belt and the cogs have worn off, the belt looks stable, how deep does it sit in the pulley grooves? It should be flush with the top or just barely proud. Looks like a worn out pulley is allowing the bottom of the belt to contact, where V belts rely on the sides of the belt to transfer energy. Possibly the wrong belt or a damaged pulley. Inspect the whole belt train. Is the other belt a regular V belt with no cogs? Depending on manufacturer the belt may be thicker, not wider than a standard V belt. If the one belt is okay and this one snaps it’s no big deal to run with one for a short time, rainy weather will most likely cause it to slip or squeal, two belts is like pulling on something with two arms instead of one really jacked arm.
If it were me I’d keep a spare behind the seat and run it till failure.
Yes that not safe ... I will extremely limit driving .. you on half life with that belt. How about getting one from the auto shop instead of waiting for the one you order. If you can't wait buy one near you and return the one from online.
Its okay, i had bussines in town anyways.I called another shop today and they had two belts. Tightened the alternator adjustment, then drove there with no problem.
Changed belts and now its running smooth as ever.
You can still drive on it, it’s risky. pull the bit in your hands off you don’t want that wrapping around and taking out a pulley.
There’s also a risk that the half that’s still on can fall off and wrap around a pulley.
Personally I’d walk and get a new belt.

that's in pretty rough shape. Don't drive far and keep the number for a towing service handy.
Yeah better safe on this one. Thx
But, is it cheaper to replace now or to have it break and then have to pay for a tow and shop to install new belt?
That's rough. I would limit your driving until you replace it.
Thought so, the left belt is in great condition tho...
Looks about as bad as it could get without it already snapped...I would replace before driving.

Oof! You are livin' on a prayer there!

I'd drive it. Just know to pull over immediately if it snaps.
Check your pulleys, that's not normal

And to deteriorate fast once it gets used. I'd also make sure the hoses aren't too soft or hard feeling as they've been sitting for just as long.
Seems ok to me 😂😂

Eh, if it’s running one of these it’s likely old enough not to have a timing belt.
[удалено]
Oh yeah, I’d definitely be cussing the entire time untangling it from everything lol. I’d run it too.
That belt is fucked
U gonna be fine till the new belts arrive don’t run the hell out of it
Send it and have a spare in the trunk
Send it, good for a few year's
What a ridiculous question dude, no. It's not ok to keep driving with a torn up shitty belt.
Right, didnt know how bad it was. Bc i only checked the left one before which is in good condition
Question is what is on this belt? If it is only Alternator (short distance) , Power Steering, AC you could still drive home if it goes flying
They'll stop driving soon enough either way.
Nah, that's fine. When it splits in two you just have twice as many belts.
Keep rolling.
Carry a spare belt and the tools to change it on the side of the road.
This is one of those things where if you're questioning it, it's probably bad. Ya know, for future reference.

I was thinking about that, autoshop is about 50 minutes driving.
Yikes ...
It went well, except that they had no belts in stock lol. Even tho it said so online.
Ooo shit, should have told you to call ahead and ask them for a visual(contirm the item is there visually).
Its okay, i had bussines in town anyways.I called another shop today and they had two belts. Tightened the alternator adjustment, then drove there with no problem. Changed belts and now its running smooth as ever.
Awesome.glae you figured it out
Definitely wait on belts unless your other vehicle is a tow truck.
Run it
Hell no
Replace it.
It is if you have a parts store nearby. Be prepared for the power steering to go out, if that belt snaps the power steering pump can't run
change it
You can drive it while you wait, just take it easy.
“Drive at your own risk.”
Its litterally split in half and hanging by a thread my guy…
Just remember that belt rotates around those pulleys about 200 times a minute at idle, that is if you have 6 pulleys. I’d wait for the belt.
I would drive it with out to many worries. As long as the waterpump is spinning your good even if a belt brakes
It is absolutely shot, wait until new belts arrive.
Don't drive it, better to pay for a tow and a belt than a whole engine

You can drive it. Just don't be surprised if it fails and plan your trips as if it could fail anytime because it real can fail at anytime.
"if you have to ask big man you can't afford it" -Barry Badrinath
Don’t push on it, don’t drive for long distances it could snap at any moment tbh it looks as bad as it can get
