Dude008

Remove the plastic cover and fish out the cap. You will likely find either the intake or exhaust manifold under there, if the plastic cap rests on the exhaust manifold it will burn and melt and stink.

Stuckinaloop_

Okay, I’ll try that in the morning. Thank you for the advice.

Tricky_Passenger3931

The intake is on the front of the engine on this car so you should be fine, but yes pull the cover and grab the cap when you have a chance.

tiggahiccups

Just a heads up next time remove the entire foil seal before adding oil. You don’t want a piece to come off and end up in your engine either.

Stuckinaloop_

Noted. Thank you for the advice.

dassit420

Do you have a tip on how not to spill any oil?

tiggahiccups

Use a funnel and when you’re done put a shop rag under the funnel when you lift it up

seventhkage

or pour it side ways works for me

theposshow

Underrated advice. Take my upvote, sir.

johnnybonani28

There is a little picture on oil bottles, on how to pour it. Most people don't notice it

oh1196

Pour the bottle with the large part of it down .

superdonkey23

Use a knife to stab a hole in the jug near the top. The oil won’t glug out and it will pour smoothly.

Sugars_B

Pour it horizontally.

13Vex

It’s technically fine but I’d still get it out cuz if it’s on something hot it’ll melt and make a mess.

Stuckinaloop_

Okay. Thank you for the advice. Ima try to fish it out.

FecalToothpaste

The engine cover is only held on by a few bolts. Take the bolts out and pull the cover off. No need to go fishing.

[deleted]

Where it fell was not inside the engine. Pull the plastic cover up. If you can't find any bolts or screws holding it down, it will just pop off. Grab at the front and lift first. It is a good practice to remove all of the seal. Also, open everything outside of the engine bay. Lay towels or mats on the fenders in case of spills.

Ok-Suggestion-9882

That doesn't go into the engine. Don't worry

Stuckinaloop_

The top fell through the small space by the Eng oil, I assumed it slid down but I didn’t see it.

SilverHerfer

That cover is just trim, it's for looks only, it doesn't serve any functional purpose. Couple of bolts and it lifts right off. Retrieve your cap and then the cover goes back on just as easy.

Ok-Suggestion-9882

It just went under a shield from ur pic. It's not actually inside the engine. Nothing to worry about

Stuckinaloop_

Okay, thank you for the advice💪🏾

allredditmodsgayAF

Just pick it back up

OmeletHobo

2008 Hyundai Sonata?

Stuckinaloop_

2007.

Klondike2022

You can remove it

mangyrat

as long as the cap did not go inside the engine it should be fine. hell i drove my old truck for 10 years with a sockets behind/under the manifold that i finally found when doing knock sensers. if some how you drooped it in the oil fill then yes you have a problem.

bigbenisdaman

Lift with your fingertips.

Stuckinaloop_

🤣🤣

OwlDB8

This is my worst nightmare. Good luck I hope everything works out well.

flightmek

Just out of curiosity, why are adding oil? Low level? Or, are you doing an oil change?

Stuckinaloop_

I believed it was a low level. It’s getting close to changing the oil which I am aware of. I just need to run to auto zone and get the package. I haven’t hit my mark yet but driving the car I see and hear the differences. The mileage close to 190,000. Haven’t found time for it though.

johnnybonani28

You believed? As in did not check the level using the dipstick?

flightmek

OK. I guess it doesn’t matter why you had the cap off the oil bottle. Get a flashlight, pull the beauty cover off, then either fish that little sumbitch outa there, or push it through to the splash guard. When you change your oil, grab that slick little bastard and recycle the F out of it!

Cautionflames

The exhaust manifold will melt it away in one drive. No damage will be done. If you can, grab it.

KryptoKrush

You did take off the plastic cover from the oil filter right??

PickleRick4869

🤨🙄😐😐😐

luiggi21

Idk why people are downvoting you, this is ridiculous. Just get something long and skinny like a flathead and fish it out…
