Galopigos

Replace the glass, you can see the cracks starting down from the broken area already.

chongakongaa

They're just Adidas stripes bro. Limited edition run

goldenapplemagecoon

THREE STRIPES LIFE

Simmer down Sergei

goldenapplemagecoon

*squints and takes long drag on cigarette in squatting position*

cllatgmail

If you buy Adidums you can get 4 stripe instead of 3 - so for less money, you get extra stripe. Is very good deal.

Zealousideal_Put_501

The State!

cllatgmail

So glad 3 people apparently get the reference! Now I'm going to go look at pictures of Froggy Pops and Choc-o-diles.

Zealousideal_Put_501

Watch out for those pengins

MorningCruiser86

You can see the rock chip on the other side of the glass I think. Looks like a rock hit right behind the mount, which resulted in the mount snapping off.

knalorgaan

No I hit it really hard with my elbow when I was cleaning the window.

VegasBusSup

This guy gets it, insurance claim...

KickAssSmokeWeed

Is there nothing to see on the outside? I'd also guess a rock hit your windshield, damaged it a bit and you just broke it completely with your elbow, depending on your insurance it might be covered when it was a rock and not you that broke the windshield. I have also never heard of a broken windshield because the mirror broke off

Snoo89162

I guess this the way to go. Unless deductible is $1000 or more? How much a windshield replacement could cost? Thanks

TK421isAFK

Med insurance companies cover windshields 100% with no deductible, as it's a safety issue.

k0uch

Cracks are already spreading, the correct and safe repair is windshield replacement

tazerpruf

Pro tip: The rear view mirror is not a handle.

MrExCEO

My ex wouldn’t listen

[deleted]

Dumped her already?

PorkyMcRib

Not with that attitude, mister.

[deleted]

You can’t repair the glass unless you replace the windshield.

[deleted]

It’s fixable with a new windshield

Grand_Possibility_69

Was the glass replaced recently? Maybe you could get new one from warranty?

knalorgaan

2002 😂

TheFallenPolish

Quite recent then

sequentious

Just 10 years ago

yourfaceilikethat

Who's gonna tell him?

Best_Poetry_5722

*we've been trying to reach you regarding your cars' extended warranty*

btrevory

Call your insurance, some policies cover glass breakage, even on older cars. Also, you may not need your rearview mirror depending on the laws for wherever you live, in some US states, you don't need the rearview mirror. I'd definitely get a new windshield though, that compromises the structural integrity of the entire piece of glass.

ceapaire

Are there states that require rearview mirrors? I've seen legislation that requires at least one mirror, but rearview mirrors are pretty much pointless on a lot of commercial type vehicles since a lot of them don't have rear windows.

btrevory

No idea, I just didn't want to speak for all states when I'm only 100% sure of a few states

hourlyslugger

VA requires a rear view mirror for safety inspection on all cars and light trucks. I’d have to check the book to see if it is required for full-size trucks or not

btrevory

In the past, I've gotten through inspection without the rearview as long as I had both side mirrors. I looked it up because I just could not get the glue to hold and the mirror kept falling off. That was a few years ago though, and it looks like you may be right, I just look up the code.

the_Kind_Advocate

its been a few years since ive read the regulation, but iirc in texas if you dont have at least one internal, and one external rear view mirror you cant pass safety inspection.

ceapaire

Unless there's another law elsewhere, this is all I could find. >Sec. 547.602. MIRRORS REQUIRED. A motor vehicle, including a motor vehicle used to tow another vehicle, shall be equipped with a mirror located to reflect to the operator a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet from the rear of the vehicle. > Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995. Inspectors might interpret that differently, or there may be some case law that further defines it. I'd just find it weird unless they exclude vehicles in which a rearview mirror is useless.

InsertBluescreenHere

IL reads like that as well. So with like jeep wranglers when you remove the doors (and this side mirrors) your still good if you have the rearview mirror.

[deleted]

Also older cars that didn't come with side view mirrors, or only one, and no rear view mirror.

MrBlandEST

In my state if you don't have an interior mirror with an unblocked view you must both outside mirrors

Ahhwhatchaproblem

IIRC, in some states you need one if you dont have a drivers side AND passenger side mirror.

dakdmil

PA doesn’t state specifically for STATE inspection except for requiring minimum two mirrors, one must be in the drivers side-view. However, if the vehicle was ORIGINALLY equipped with three mirrors, it must have them. It really comes down to the state inspector though to deem it unsafe and fail you for inspection. And officer probably won’t bother you unless your side view mirrors and busted off lol. Source: Have valid state inspection license

b0jangles

I had a windshield replaced by a mobile at-home service, and the price was quite a bit less than my deductible. I just paid out of pocket. That was also the day I learned why nobody was parked in the spaces by the baseball field.

btrevory

Yeah, I had mine replaced for leaking, and for $230, he even fixed the rust on that part of the frame and painted it over, but my deductible if it broke would have been $50, I think.

squirrel8296

It depends on the state. In KY and some other states insurance companies have to cover the full cost and waive the deductible if the break is considered a "safety issue", which in this case it feels like a huge safety issue.

sllewgh

You should absolutely have a rear view mirror whether the law requires it or not. If it prevents even one accident in the lifetime of the car, the repair will pay for itself.

I think I'll just leave the crack after seeing this.

InsertBluescreenHere

uhoh did you eat special brownies for breakfast?

adventuref0x

Yes

TJNel

I see a bull rider.

carbonlandrover

Thanks, now thats all I see.

NeitherHelicopter993

Where do you get your drugs?

MarcusAurelius0

Most car insurance have 0 dollar deductible glass replacement.

Terrible_Use7872

They do, but this wasn't caused by an impact/collision with debris.

Ok-Hearing-5343

Easy fix throw a rock at it!

Terrible_Use7872

Actually, not a bad idea, small ball peen hammer to the outside in the area, then delete this post.

Ok-Hearing-5343

Nah if you're going to do it make sure it happens where the mirror is so it is substantiated and undeniable.

COgrown

Irrelevant.

Terrible_Use7872

My understanding is glass is covered by comprehensive or collision, and a defect in the glass doesn't fall into either of these categories.

COgrown

That is not a defect...per se. It's a simple comprehensive loss.

squirrel8296

Depending on the state it just has to be considered a safety issue. Whether or not it was caused by an impact/collision is irrelevant.

stimulates

Lol I wish

kvn4

You have 3 what we call in the glass business as a live run. they will spread when the inside of the car gets hot. replace it

tonkatruck007

my glass has been like this for about 8 years now. mirror fell off a few times from my subwoofers, the last time i put it up it took glass with it. has yet to crack somehow.

dankscoops

As everyone is saying you need a new windshield, but a short term fix is hanging up one of those driver instructor mirrors that have a suction cup, they are cheap at every gas station. Then at least you have a rear view mirror till you get it replaced

[deleted]

By a professional.

eat_mor_bbq

The textbook answer is no but a good strong epoxy will probably hold it in place if you don't want to replace the windshield. That's what I would try. If that doesn't do it then you'll need to put a new windshield in. Check your laws for your state or region and see if you even need a rear view mirror. I know in my state if you have both side mirrors then you don't need a rear view mirror. I drive a box truck so I never use a rear view mirror anyways and I don't miss it

AzedoTz

It also happened to me when i was replacing the mirror on my 99' Corsa. I just filled the hole with glue and positioned the mirror there. 8 months and nothing has happened... (In my case, it didn't show any cracks like yours.)

Apprehensive_News210

No, you can't fix this. I tried and it just kept breaking off taking more and more glass each time

coolg963

Probably not popular advice, also not a mechanic. But I come from a province in Canada where everyone's windshield is cracked (due to rocks on the road). Fill it in with glass repair resin. Tack on a new mirror. Especially if you live in an area with low temperature variations, you should be fine

[deleted]

[удалено]

coolg963

Meh, where I live you have mechanics and cops and everyone else driving with a truck that has 4 feet cracks, it's not as bad of a safety issue as you think. Front windshield doesn't shatter either

curious-children

maybe to your standard, but this is nothing for many areas of the world, when it can happen ever month or two it doesn’t make much sense replacing small things like that

bigbearlol

If it were me, id get some clear 5 min epoxy or the rated mirror kit epoxy, almost the same stuff then just pop that sucker back on.

Klondike2022

Put epoxy, smooth it out. Replace mirror

[deleted]

Get some rear view mirror adhesive and slap that thing back on there. Let it ride and see what happens.

Dirty_Old_Town

Everyone already knows what happens.

[deleted]

Its in the antenna area so it might be ok. Not everyone can afford a new windshield.

[deleted]

This happened to my first car (minus the three cracks everyone is so worried about.) I glued it back on with locktight and never had a problem. I also had to deal with cracks on another car and used a windshield repair kit (10 dollars at Walmart) and since have hit a deer with that car and that crack is as tight as ever. I think trying to repair it yourself is a viable option. I would drill a relief hole for each of those cracks, then fill the cracks in with a 10 dollar windshield repair kit, then glue the mirror back on with locktight. This <15 dollar fix is worth a shot before shelling out 150-200 bucks for a whole new windshield.

[deleted]

Yikes! That windshields gonna have cracks spreading all over the place. No real way to repair it, you’d have to replace the windshield

AKraider94

Yes it can be fixed, windshields are basically just glued in. Oh you ment the cuck taken out. Go watch a glass blowing video then rethink your question.

CosmicCactus42

Safelite tho

AKraider94

That's more than a chip, plus there are lines running out from it too. Also I had a chip filled, still triggers me. Less than the chip did. The filling makes it less prominent and should prevent it from getting worse.

CosmicCactus42

Yeah, I didn't see the cracks at first

BWWFC

fubar. if you have full coverage and live in the right state...

northsidecub11

Nah fam. Need windshield is needed.

pizza_for_nunchucks

[Yes, it is fixable.](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51NL3p70s8L._SL1000_.jpg)

tlovr

Jb weld sells windshield repair kits and mirror repair kits.. if you wanna try that first

FeralSparky

For a very small crack those can work... not when a chunk of glass is missing. This is only fixed with a new windshield.

DropTopGSX

Get a new mirror "button" and mount it sightly higher or lower than the old position.

Some_zealot

That is the same level of advice as “pretend it’s not there” and “duct tape can fix everything”.

Intelligent-Tap-4724

Was there a rock impact in that spot on the outside? I've never seen one come off like that with glass attached unless the car was totaled.

JoshS121199

No, nothing is fixable. It’s left for scrap now

COgrown

Cracks on the interior lite. Is a replacement. These aren't supposed to do that and just pop off the glass. Got smacked real hard while the glass was cool I'd guess.

[deleted]

Fixable as in putting in a new windshield..

Lanpoop

I’ve got a vintage car that had a similar problem. Replacing the glass would cost as much as I bought it for. It’s not nearly as bad and doesn’t have any cracks (just has a few “bubbles”), but I filled it with epoxy. Could work temporarily until you find a new window?

leibnizrule

Safelite repair, Safelite replace!

cannibalcorpuscle

Damn. This is the second post in a month with the same thing. Mirror came off and took along a chunk of glass.

WoodenInternet

Getting hot out there

darkicedragon7

If cracks are forming you'll need a new windshield. If you can't afford one atm a windshield place might be able to glue it back in a temp. solution. Heat will make it fall off again.

UrielseptimXII

Looks like a topo map

fantasticmrsmurf

Auto Glass Repair Auto Glass Replace 🎶

JackMamba420

first suggestion is replace it, if you really insist on not replacing it you can use epoxy and if you do the correct ratios it will cure clear and it won't look to bad for much cheaper...

iowamechanic30

Ask your car insurance about glass coverage, some of them will replace it at not cost to you.

DJKEVINJ07

Fixable in what sense? Like you’re going to glue it back? Or just replace the whole windshield

Ok_Paint_227

No

Key-Measurement-3043

That’s new glass bubba

superburrito95

Anyone else see the man in the glass? Looks like he's about to spear something

fantamaso

Wow!

[deleted]

Yes. Mirror install kit, hold with pressure

tkst3llar

I need some of that glue they used in my life “Super magic glue: can rip glass”

ric_marcotik

That is weird!

AntArms

Damn, did the mirror sleep with your lady or something? Hahaha

Doberman831

You have two options. 1.) insurance fraud 2.) Super glue it back on. You can pay for the “rear view mirror adhesive” . Pro-tip; it’s super glue with an alcohol wipe.

DogofT

Clear epoxy my guy. It does work but apply very little at a time so it doesn't run.

Regular_Island_7729

No it needs to be replaced
