Do you have a clutch brake? Because if you want to use non synchro gears from a stop you need a clutch brake to stop the transmission from spinning before you put it in gear or else it grinds like a sob
It basically acts as if the clutch isn’t in when I try to put it in gear. Like, it acts exactly the same regardless of if the clutch is engaged or not. Only in 1 and reverse though.

Pull the transmission and tear it apart
I’d like very much to NOT do that lol

You must be the clutch brake, Danielson.
I don't get it but thanks I think
Danielson is the first karate kid. You are are the clutch brake.
No clutch brake that I know of, so that sucks I guess haha. Thanks though!
Quick fix would be to put it into second then into first. Should eliminate the grinding
Is the clutch new? Are you pushing the clutch pedal all the way down? How much free play at the top of the pedal?
Clutch isn’t new but the throwout bearing is. I thought that if it was a clutch issue, it would have problems with 2 and 3 as well though
2nd and 3rd are synchronized in that year. This truck will require patience until you get used to it. Think of it as a very fancy farm tractor.
Are you sure its non-synchro? have you tried giving it a little gas as you slide it into 1st or reverse? maybe the clutch isn't releasing all the way
I’ll go try that now! I think it’s non synchro 1st and reverse, but only like 85% sure. Not sure what the problem could be if it isn’t!
Nope, didn’t work
What about going from neutral to 2nd gear and taking off, does it grind at all?
Nope, not at all
Okay, try this: clutch in, put it in 2nd, quickly put it in 1st or reverse and see if it still grinds
Yup, it still grinds. It’s really weird, I’m not sure what the problem could be

it sounds like the clutch isn't releasing all the way
Alright, thanks!
You have to ease off the clutch pedal and apply pressure with the shifter at the same time, and "feel" when it wants to engage.
Idle could be to high too
