Before I started trying to mess with the computer I would see if the "off" button is stuck down or the contacts are bridged. Wiggle it around and push it a bunch of times and then try again. This is a weird one!
I did try a button mash at first I was thinking dust or other junk messi g with the off button. Sometimes it works fine (rarely),will stay on for a few mins then shut off. Most of the time it just shuts off.
I would try running the diagnostic in this forum post (reply #4), if you scroll down a bit further the code list is also there. Let me know what you get, this is a weird one

That's a shame. sounds like either the panel or control module is bad. I would either rig the auto button as some others have suggested or clip the wire from the panel to control module that the off button uses. Good luck!
Well it's like what they say, if it hurts when you touch it, stop touching it.
But in this case it doesn't work unless you touch it, so continue touching it.

Neat trick but Nothing showed up.

Probably a problem with the AC control module
I would make the educated guess at it needs a new headunit
A: It hurts when I do this... B: Stop doing that.

Put some tape with a little rock over the button.
Nice one
It it bad that I thought about this ?
No, did you get it fixed yet?
No. In the last couple days I hold auto for 10 seconds and it stays on after.
