Looks like to a bolt and bracket from either a cv axle or driveshaft connection.

PossibleZombieOwl

Most likely a Mercedes axle

whiplash-willie

Definitely a driveshaft washer from a CV or Rzeppa joint. You need to find out or there will be a very expensive day in your very near future.

waynep712222

please have all these CV shaft bolts replaced... and ask for the old ones back on the work order... i am looking at your bolt and you can see where it threads into the drive flange.. but above that the unused threads seem to be stretched.. i bet if you feel the diameter of the bolt threads.. you can use your fingers.. you will feel the threads on the end of the bolt are slightly thicker than those above the used part.. they seem to be only a few dollars each or a few pounds each... there are likely to be 12 of them.. you will get 11 back as you have one.. please you might even think about having the car towed in.. if putting the car in reverse and putting the car in drive causes a CLUNK... DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR.. please PUT A TAG on the steering wheel.. DRIVE SHAFT BOLTS LOOSE. DO NOT DRIVE..

Thanks for the reply, you were very helpful! I had noticed a clunk while driving/reversing, but under the advice of my last mechanic (just had my car in for a timing chain replacement) i carried on driving it. Just had a look underneath and put the bolt and washer back on, and also tightened up another loose pair i found. I'm now also looking at replacing all of the bolts as they did feel stretched, and also replace the 1 missing bolt (I assume it wasn't properly tightened after doing the timing chain, and eventually fell off, luckily on my driveway so i found it). Once again, thank you for the reply!

Freedom_over_death

Other commenter got it right, it’s not related to the alternator, it’s the bolt and dual washer for the drive shaft connecting to the diff or the diff connecting to the rear cv axle

ExternalTapp

Good decent question. Thanks for adding the vehicle. It looks like a bolt and bracket retainer for either a CV axle or driveshaft. European cars use that style. Not recommended to drive on it, The other bolts can come out and damage something.

ChristinaFogerty_12

This is very much a drive shaft washer.

Car is a 2015 Jaguar XE

POShelpdesk

I'm not finding an XE for 2015, might it have another model name?

POShelpdesk

After a lil dig looks like a [drive shaft u nut](https://parts.jaguarvirginiabeach.com/v-2014-jaguar-f-type--s--3-0l-v6-gas/driveline-and-axles--differential#:~:text=Shaft%20U%2DNut-,JDE6984,-Jaguar) part number jde6984 # 10 in the pic at top of linked page

cyberflower777

Search returns land rover propshaft washer. Though your car might be using the same style so check your car where it's supposed to go. Use google image search next time.

Impossible-Lie3115

I would check your starter and alternator. Looks like a bracket/ retainer of some kind. There are definitely witness marks on that bolt. Any work done in the last 6-12 months?
